This was held at the King Community Center and it was a sell out event, even though it was free. We came early and had to park on the street due to the number of participants. Not only did we learn CPR, but we learned about being prepared for a disaster and some other basic first aid. The instructor was extremely funny, especially when he did his little routine about not kissing your victim during CPR and coming at them like a Great White Shark instead (something you definitely have to see). Thanks Red Cross for a great presentation, great information and the complimentary training manuals and bags. This FREE event was very helpful. I'll be back next year. (On a lighter note... when we were practicing "rolling" our victim and it was my turn to be the victim... I think my husband molested me. I had to break out of my "role" and rat him out. LOL. And he said he was adjusting my shirt. Naughty Boy).

***BE AWARE*** Today, I drove about an hour to the CSL…read morePlasma center in Fairfield, CA, to donate plasma and was turned away immediately because I have viable veins in only one arm. I am an experienced returning donor and familiar with the donation process. The manager told me that this location recently created a rule requiring both arms to be available for plasma collection. Staff said this rule applies only here, BUT it isn't written or disclosed in the donor eligibility information anywhere. I am not aware of any clearly published FDA requirement stating that plasma donors must have two usable arms, which makes this situation even more confusing. FDA materials describe donor eligibility and collection requirements for source plasma, but I did not find a clear federal rule phrased that way. That means donors can waste significant time traveling to this center only to be rejected before any medical screening. If this is a location rule, it MUST be clearly disclosed in advance. Very disappointing and frustrating experience.

Friendly staff that assuaged my fears of donating. My collection nurse (or however you call the…read moreperson) was gentle, patient, and sweet. Because of her I was able to completely give this time. The Blood Center pampers and comforts you with juice, coffee, assortment of snacks, free t-shirt. Also, it is clean, hygenic, and professional. The only complaint is you will have to wait a long time, the receptionist doesn't seem to have everything together but the staff is very kind here. Good job ladies!!
