I was nervous to come here and had been postponing my first visit due to all the reviews, but…read morethankfully I didn't have a poor experience. I came for my new donor physical and was there for about 3 hours. The staff were very transparent and informed new donors it could be up to a 4-hour visit to get through all of the stages of checking in/completing questionnaire/physical exam/donating. I had an 8am appt and left at 11am, but I also had to end my donation early due to an unexpectedly bad vasovagal reaction :( Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful. At the start when I checked in, they first had me go to do a vein check to ensure I'd have suitable veins; she stated she didn't want me to go through all the steps just to be turned away at the chair, stating she wanted to respect my time which I really appreciated. The nurse who completed my physical was thorough and personable, offering me an ensure drink and beef jerky as well. My phlebotomist was quick with the puncture and didn't have to do any "digging", as I do have deeper veins. She did a great job. I was just over halfway done with my donation when my BP dropped. I immediately notified staff I was dizzy and they were very quick to respond and get me ice packs & saline, and they tried to talk to me to help distract me. It truly felt like they cared and were concerned. After I was disconnected, I stayed 15 mins for observation with their nurse and she was so reassuring (as I was a bit embarrassed). She encouraged me to return and to not let this deter me from donating in the future. She provided recommendations & tips for a successful donation. During this time, they provided me with goldfish and an electrolyte drink packet to mix in water, rather than their Gatorade. It does get incredibly busy here with long lines, so it's understandable that wait times can vary. Not their fault - they were doing the best they can to be time efficient. They didn't appear to be understaffed as they had a full team on the floor, it just seems like there's more demand for donors than there are seats. From what I could tell, they disinfect very thoroughly between patients. I just wish they had stress balls to squeeze, as they just have you pump your hand into a fist. I'm hoping to try again and have a successful full donation next time.

Bonus - if they call you on the phone, there's a good chance they'll call your emergency contact instead and leave a message as if they are speaking to the client. Completely clueless and pedestrian in their knowledge and ability. On par with the staff at Taco Bell. Do yourself a solid and go to CSL Plasma instead. ***BE AWARE*** Today, I drove about an hour to the CSL…read morePlasma center in Fairfield, CA, to donate plasma and was turned away immediately because I have viable veins in only one arm. I am an experienced returning donor and familiar with the donation process. The manager told me that this location recently created a rule requiring both arms to be available for plasma collection. Staff said this rule applies only here, BUT it isn't written or disclosed in the donor eligibility information anywhere. I am not aware of any clearly published FDA requirement stating that plasma donors must have two usable arms, which makes this situation even more confusing. FDA materials describe donor eligibility and collection requirements for source plasma, but I did not find a clear federal rule phrased that way. That means donors can waste significant time traveling to this center only to be rejected before any medical screening. If this is a location rule, it MUST be clearly disclosed in advance. Very disappointing and frustrating experience.

Review for Vitalant Blood Donation Center…read more The staff at this center are very polite and professional -- I truly appreciate their courteous demeanor and dedication. However, the overall process is disorganized and frustrating. You're repeatedly called and scheduled for appointments, often without your direct input. The pre-donation qualification questionnaire -- which ultimately determines if you're even eligible to donate -- is only sent the morning of the appointment or handed to you at the center. This makes no sense and wastes everyone's time. If you want to switch your appointment to a therapeutic phlebotomy, you're told a completely separate form must be submitted, and that it "can take weeks to process." That level of delay is unacceptable for what should be a routine, straightforward request. Vitalant: consider sending out qualification questions when people are booking or when you're calling to schedule them. It would save time, reduce frustration, and make your system far more donor-friendly.

I called the local fire department and was referred over to Red Cross as the have a smoke detector program which offers free smoke detectors as well as installation. My being 70 years young this filled my heart with gratitude to know my daughter will be safe in her home. as a side note: the day after I called to ask about these a house down the street burned. No smoke detectors present. please be safe and make sure you have these in your home and if not call the wonderful people of the Yolo, Woodland Red Cross. they are an outstanding service.

Usually I stick to Bloodmobiles or Blood Drives but decided to make an appointment at this location due to proximity/convenience to work. Very easy to log in and schedule, fast track questionnaire on the day of in advance. Email reminders too. Lots of parking, A-frame and other signs indicating there was a blood drive that day. Checked in at the entrance with a lady, then sat down with a nurse to go over the questionnaire and do the finger stick to measure hemoglobin levels, take a donor photo too for your profile. It had been awhile since I donated, and for some reason I had decided to wear a shirt that day that didn't easily roll up and was a bit tight on the arms, no bueno. Nurse Kristen (sp?) offered for me to change out into one of their free T-shirts, I got to choose between a dark gray "Be Remarkable" Vitalant branded design or a light blue "Give Blood, Save The Day" vintage BloodSource design. I went with the blue, changed in their bathroom. Once which arm was preferred, sat in the cot-style chair. I had drank water, but more would have been nice. Coffee was also probably not the best choice either. Anyway, the donation process itself went pretty quickly and you are to stay in the refreshments area at least 15 minutes to eat and drink (chips, pretzels, cookies, water, Gatorade). Donors provided with a paper with contact information. I also received an e-mail to claim either a $5 Amazon e-gift card or rewards points. Eligible to donate again in 8 weeks. Not a bad experience at this location!

There's just 1 lane of cars, about 4 ahead of me. Then suddenly a car pulls up to the side of us all and creates this second lane. Instead of sending him to the back of the line, they test him. Hello? What about all of us waiting, with appointments??? They finally moved cars to this "Lane 2" because the line was pretty long now. A few girls walking around at a snails pace with papers. But I'm at the front of the line, in this lane 2. The girl goes to the cars behind me. Then in Lane 1, they tested 2 cars that were behind me when I was initially in that line before anyone ever came to my car. There was zero rhyme or reason as to how they helped people and seemed oblivious to any sort of order of cars. When I told her what happened at another place where I never got my results she said "because they're bullshit" which was pretty unprofessional. And she wasn't going to stick the q-tip "hella far up" my nose. What?? Now lets hope and pray I get my results this time.

I needed a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of a flight that left on Sunday night. StemExpress was a lifesaver for me - I had my 24 hour test at 8:05 am on Friday and got the results Friday night (faster than promised). Everybody that I dealt with on the phone (Toni and Tuesday) and during the Test Procedure (Devin and Maryela) were friendly, helpful, and professional. I think getting tested in the car might be more comfortable than some other options because you can brace against your headrest. Note: The date and time of the sample are now on the test results.
