I should have known that being able to get an eye exam appointment the same day was a red flag. My instincts were correct. This is simple a storefront to charge you outrageous fees. Exam covered by insurance ok. $189 "fitting fee" to keep me in the same exact contacts I came in with. What a joke. Also, a $39 fee for using the latest technology and not having to dilate my eyes with drops. Been wearing the same contacts for 30 years. Also tried to tell me I have dry eyes three times so they can sell me overpriced drops I guess. In my 59 years on this planet I have never complained about or told that I have dry eyes by any optometrist. Left with a $205 bill and didn't even order contacts. This place is a joke and a scam. I searched the internet for reviews and when I came upon Visual Eyes in Huntingdon Valley, near Ben & Irv's for reference, I decided, based on the reviews and the philosophy of the business, I was going to make an appointment and I couldn't be happier. I can't say enough positive things about the staff at Visual Eyes. From the moment I approached the outside glass office door I was greeted by Lindsay with a big smile. I knew then that this was going to be a very positive experience. The rest of the staff was incredibly friendly, approachable, patient, and readily available to answer my questions. They made me feel welcomed and valued as a customer and a person and this is now my go-to store for all my vision issues. Blessie, who does the preliminary exam, took her time to explain the process and what was going to happen using the new technology, Dr. Small who was incredibly kind and patient, provided the best and by far the most thorough eye examination I've ever had and I'm pushing 80 and last but certainly not least there is the very patient Tim who helped me pick out two pair of glasses based on my color and financial preference from their fantastic selection of eyewear. I was never rushed nor was I pressured to buy anything. Actually, I was going to purchase three pair but Tim didn't think the third pair was needed and in hindsight he is correct. I apologize for the long review but I believe this group of people deserve to be recognized for their wonderful customer service, professionalism and patient care as this is sometimes lacking in other stores I've shopped in. After this visit I believe I can highly recommend Visual Eyes and their staff to others. read more

The Optical Section of this office is friendly only if you purchase your eyewear from their store. I tried that for several years and had to return a few times due to my lenses popping out from the frame. The final straw for me was when the whole arm of a year-old pair of glasses broke off. I was told it was not covered for replacement. Also, when I was wearing contact lenses and told them I was ordering online they tried to tell me they weren't the same lenses as what they would sell me. Not true at all! So now I buy my eyewear strictly online and could not be happier! They're much cheaper and very durable - no problems whatsoever. If it wasn't for the eye doctors at this place I would take my business elsewhere. Dr. Small (who I only met once) and Blessie (who prepares you for your eye exam visit) are the only reasons I come here. I'm 68 and the best eye exam I've ever received, resulting in an incredibly accurate prescription. My monitor screen is razor sharp. It's like I have a new set of eyes. I have extreme astigmatism, resulting in eyes that are difficult to accurately prescribe for. The optician, Matt M who took care of me, provided explanations of the various lens' and options, he helped in picking frames and guided me towards a choice that was best for me. First impression walking through the door was this is such a clean, cute place. They have toys for the children in the waiting area in the front. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I was greeted with a smile and genuine warmth as soon as I walked in the door. Dr. Daves and her intern were very thorough and did a great job explaining all the test, there results and the meanings. I finished the exam with a new understanding of why my prescription changed and what to expect in the future. Tim helped me with such expertise, patience and honesty to find the perfect glasses for me. I could sit and speak to him for hours (which I kind of did). There was no pressure at all to buy anything. Wonderful staff, great customer service. I was able to get in the same day for an appointment. The Dr. was thorough with exam. They have new technology if you don't want drops in your eyes for a small extra fee. The selection of glasses could have been larger but the frames they did have were nice and they did explain that they could get something in a different color if I liked the frame. I would give zero stars but Yelp won't let me. I went to Visual Eyes in 2011 for glasses because they were on my insurance company's list, bought a pair of glasses, and they were defective when I picked them up. The insurance company's lab cut the lenses, so Visual Eyes' lab was not to blame - but as the retailer who took my money they should have made sure the glasses were right before giving them to me. Fast-forward a year... I returned to Visual Eyes with a new prescription and bought new prescription sunglasses and had new lenses put in my old frames. I picked them up and there were problems with both - the sunglasses were made at the store and the lenses were cut very poorly - I had to take them back to have them repaired. The other lenses were cut at the insurance company's lab and had a defect which was not caught by Visual Eyes before they had me come in and pick them up. 3 pairs of defective/problematic glasses in one year - not a good track record. They were able to repair 2 of the pairs but not without hassle and aggravation. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Chose this location based on where TriCare would take me. I first went on the website and was impressed with all of the information that was available online. I made an appointment and was able to download the forms that were needed days before. Visual Eyes is a nice location that is clean, modern and has a nice waiting area. The staff in the front, technician and optometrists were very friendly and helpful. After addressing my problems and thankfully solving them, I left with a trial of contacts that I have not used before. I also ended up getting new lenses for my glasses and was helped with an initial quote based on what I wanted and was willing to spend. Returning for my check up, my lenses that I purchased were in and installed while I saw the doctors. Because I wanted to check a few places for prices for a years worth of contacts, I let them know I would take the prescription and let them know where I will be getting them. Waiting for my glasses the staff was so kind enough as to get price quotes from me from the place I wanted to check. Because of the benefits of getting it from Visual Eyes, I ended purchasing a years worth of contacts from this place. Great place and highly recommended. read more

Had an absolute pleasure working with the opticians at this store. I had come in looking for a particular frame which they did have in stock. Tim, one of the opticians, took the name down of the brand and the style number, contacted the manufacturer while I was waiting and was able to get me what I wanted. Within a week the frame was ready for me to pick up. Everyone was great, staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely will have me as a client. read more
