Well where do I begin. The sangria is basically only wine with water and ice. I asked the waiters and waitresses 12 times for a pitcher of mimosas for my girlfriend and they completely forgotten about us, to a point one of our friends had to go to the bar and ask for it. We asked the waitress for a couple of Picaderas because it's a table of 20. We asked what does the picadera come with, she replied only chicken, steak and tostones, so we told her ok, but please don't bring any seafood. We have some people who are allergic to seafood. She came back with a seafood platter. Our brunch time started at 2:45pm we put our orders in. We didn't receive the food till 4:25. We had to make a complaint to the manager and the owner of how bad the service was and how long we been waiting for our food. Even some of our guest left without even getting there food or taking it home. It was very disorganized from the start. Basically the establishment ruined my moms birthday. Never seen my mom so disappointed and upset anything in my life. Her husband was so embarrassed that he wanted to pay everybody lies brunch and wanted to by drinks as an apology. Me and my family been coming to vistamar over the years and we seen they made a lot of changes through the whole restaurant. It's beautiful and all, but the service was terrible and I can't say I would recommend anybody to go here. Hopefully this review helps y'all out in the future and makes some big changes. read more

I'm giving this restaurant 3 starts for service ONLY, as they were great! First let me start with arriving for a 4:30 dinner reservation and we were seated in what seemed to be the leftover brunch party. LOUD, as in you can't hear your waitress loud. We tried sitting there but it was incredibly noisy and not how we wanted to have a birthday dinner. We got up to leave and the manager stopped us on the way out and offered to seat us in a quiet dining space that was not yet being used. Amazing service so far, thank you! Our waitress was very nice, and accommodating, thank you! The drinks were tasty, thank you! They brought out a personal cheesecake and sang happy Birthday to my hubs, thank you! We ordered appetizers to start with, the seafood apps for two and the regular (meat) for two. Can I just say that although they give you tons of food, the apps tasted like cuchifrito food, as in over cooked, over greasy, maybe left over from brunch? And the yucca fries? So hard we couldn't bite into them. I feel appetizers are a total indication of what the food will be like. Uff! Needless to say we paid our bill and headed to another restaurant for dinner! We traveled two hours to come to Vistamar as the reviews were so on point, definitely would not return. The staff is great and made the time spent there not horrible but the food? Not recommended. read more

Be on alert of scam On February 8, 2018 I visited Vistamar restaurant for the first time with my family. I can say the food was good however I advise all of you to check the bill before paying. I was overcharged $147.00. The food receipt came up to $285.47 including an automatic tip of 18%. The waitress took the credit card to charge he came back with a charge of $428.47 when I saw this I asked him what happened he couldn't explain he told me I am coming back I guess when he realized that I was not stupid and I knew of the scam he voided the $428.47 transaction and charged the correct amount and didn't even apologize since he knew what he did. I'm not saying the food and the service was bad the food was great but watch out for those extra charges ‍ read more

Nice place visually and nice staff, accommodating to be exact. First time I've eaten here so I played it safe with the shrimp mofongo plate and YUCK !!!! They haven't figured out this mofongo. It was hard and shrimp were mediocre. Won't be coming here again. Played it safe but they didn't score. read more

First time here and I have to say I loved it. The food was so good from the churrasco to the rice with quandulez. Everything was so yummy. And our waiter was phenomenal. She was very attentive and knew the menu very well. She recommended the cranberry moscato to me and I'm glad I listened to her. It was so good. Def have to try. Her name was Dayanara, she also told us about the Sunday brunch, which I will be going to. Great new spot. Thanks Dayanara!!! read more

The restaurants Decor is very nice specially at night but thats as far as it goes for the good. I am giving it 2 stars based on the food prices and the fact that the waiter added an 18% gratuity to my bill for just a party of two when it clearly says on the menu (party's of 5 or more) I am a very generous tipper but dont try to take advantage of me. 2 main entrys and 2 drinks and my bill was 98$. If they dont work on this prices it will end up like Don Coqui. Now dont get me wrong if i buy a dish thats worth the price i dont mind paying for it but chicken stuffed with ground beef and chorizo is not worth 30$, also the drinks are watered down. 12$ for a drink better have some damn kick to it. All in all i wont be returning to this establishment and wouldn't recommend it to anyone there are better places near by with better food, better prices, better services read more

Wow, the food is just amazingly delicious, but that's as far as it goes, the service was just AWFUL!! I was so disappointed and annoyed that such a lovely venue, the service between the server and bus-person was outrageously rude, never came to the table to ask for our order for 2 hours because we were chatting, lame! Who doesn't talk in a restaurant?? Another thing, a clean utensil was requested after eating appetizers and was declined! What?? The servers need more training, the sad note is that because it was a large party, the gratuity was included in the bill, not deserved at all. I will never recommend Vistamar to anyone, UNLESS THEY WANT TO ORDER TAKEOUT! SHAME ON YOU. Emma H. read more

This place was AMAZING! my boyfriend and i went there Monday after fathers day, it wasnt busy which was good. Our waiter whose name i think was Johnathan, was attentive and polite! The margaritas i had were amazing, delicious but also strong! The best part though was the food. I had the churrasco which was SO soft and flavorful. My boyfriend had the mofongo de mariscos which he said was out of this world. We're already planning our trip back there. can be a little on the expensive side but its a nicer restaurant so its expected. Will def be back. read more

I'm giving it 1 star rating bc it has no 0. Worse service ever. I understand we are going through a pandemic schedule but courtesy and customer service was definitely not a part of this restaurant. The manager who is also the hostess wow the way she just yelled at us that if we were waiting we had to wait out the parking lot but no near the premises. The waiter that right off the back told us we're limited of time in thinking about our selection of food due to our limited time in the restaurant which was 2 hours. The top event was we waited and waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food. When we decided to leave out of the aggravation that when are food arrived. But at that point we just did not want the food. We approved the manager to complain, she was more interested in hearing the waiters version then concerned that her customer was leaving unsatisfied. She could care less if we left and gave her restaurant a bad review. Horrible place. Then she had pride in saying she was the manager. She should go manage a Kennedy Fried Chicken with that attitude. read more

Este restaurante es gran. The host was great. Justina was a awesome server. 25+ people and she handled everyone. Justine was a great coordinator. Food was good. I would definitely come back. Came here in the summer where we were fortunate to eat outside. The food was great, music nice and good ambiance. However, today we wanted seafood and came to the vistamar express. I spent $100 on three orders and none of us fully ate the entire meals.. the red snapper was poorly seasoned and barely cooked. I ordered shrimp with fries, shrimp was rubbery and slightly cold. I ordered the henny colada and drank it while the food was being prepared.. the drink was watered down.. when i brought it to the lady's attention , she immediately became defensive and said she didn't understand why. She gave me another drink and it was still bad... i would never come to this place again. A waste of money and we are still hungry.! read more

The stuffed lobster ravioli tasted like it was from a bag and they reheated the food. The baked ziti was dry. I was very disappointed in the food and service. This new management needs to do better. The servers kept coming over to my table as my daughter and grandson was eating asking if we were ready to go. I felt that was so disrespectful. I will go to dinner some where else next time. read more

Very Very disappointing.. placed an order at 5:30pm, knowing there was an 1.5 hour wait time. Knowing it was Mother's Day I was understanding of the wait and still placed the order. After waiting 3 hours, we contacted every number listed under the restaurant and either it just rang, or went to a voicemail. I decided to even contact them through Instagram and nothing. We decided to contact Grubhub directly to notify them of the situation and they told us it looked like the food was delivered (which it clearly wasn't) so they decided to refund us (our order was almost $100). Now hours later, at 8:30 at night, on Mother's Day, we're scrambling to try to get something decent eat. This is UNACCEPTABLE and EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. We understand the shortage in staff and high demand of takeout BUT that doesn't excuse the lack of communication and poor customer service. I will NEVER order from here again. read more

Two main differences between the ole Don Coqui and this place are the quality of food, better, and the care of the place. No duct tape to keep seat cushions put. Great atmosphere. The service is 5 star. Portion sizes are on the large side but since being more on the expensive side, I have no complaints on the trade-off. The one big negative i have is how the bill is structured. The tip is already factored into the bill. You'll see that as you review your bill. However, if paying via card, after approval, you receive bill to sign. On that receipt is a suggested tip percentage so you can leave a tip?!! Really? I found this quite deceitful. If you didn't review your initial bill, you might be inclined to leave a tip, twice! Be thorough! read more

I would give it zero stars if it gave me that option. I myself work as a server in a restaurant and when i went to Vistamar after Don Coqui had left (boy what a loss)! Definitely miss Don Coqui! As soon as we arrive the host informed me that it was only cash payments which is really weird because during Covid all respectable and distinguishable establishments do quite the opposite with touchless credit card and payment (no cash). The corner bodega even accepts cc! This is a bad sign that either the owner is cheap to pay cc company surcharges, paying staff off the books, and/or getting a kickback from the atm owner in the lobby. In addition there was a long line for the onsite ATM as well! Then the server failed ultimately to inform my boyfriend when he ordered a steak that they only have plastic cutlery! Also, for the upscale or fancy atmosphere they are trying to "sell" they could at least afford to bring out food on regular plates instead of takeout containers! The presentation is cheap and more expensive to keep ordering for restaurant (or maybe trying to save hiring a dishwasher position?). The plastic ban law was definitely in violation at thaf restarauant. To top it off at the end I'm glad my boyfriend caught the slick auto grat included in bill for a two top! That just shows the desperation of servers being screwed by a two top rather than standard of 5+ party and more anywhere else! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS JOKE OF A RESTAURANT! read more

Had I known it was the same staff as when the restaurant was Don Coqui I would have skipped it. But the online reviews raved about Vistamar so I brought my sisters for a belated Mother's Day dinner. After seeing Vistamar on TikTok, some friends and I decided to go here on Sunday, August 28th. We got there at 3:00pm and they seated us immediately (we sat outside). It was downhill from that point on. No one came to assist with our orders until we literally stopped someone in passing @ 3:25pm (his name was Walter (he was awesome), and even though he was only supposed to be taking beverage orders, he was nice enough to take our full order - he even got us water and utensils as there were none on our table). We got our drinks within 10 minutes but our appetizers didn't show up until an hour later (@ 4:25pm) with dinner showing up an hour after that (@ approximately 5:30pm). We noticed that if you were sitting inside, the service was faster than outside. We also noticed that people that came after us had been served and were leaving before we even received our order. There was a full fledged party going on inside (music, dancing and all). The drinks were good and strong but the food was par. That could've been because we waiting so long to eat and ate bread to absorb the alcohol. This place needs better management, more kitchen help and definitely more waiters as we didn't see one all night (only Walter). read more

Actually did ask for the music to be lowered. Didn't help as no one did anything. As to policy of not seating guests until entire party is there, as I said when there are a total of 4 tables seated somebody should be able to understand that you can adjust. Never more then 6 tables full the entire time. Just nice for customers to be able to sit at table instead of by the door. A little common sense. But I appreciate your comments and your food was nice. Wish you would become a restaurant until 9-10 and then be a club. read more

Horrible Horrible service!!!! What's the point of having an express section if it not express. Took them 40 minutes for my order of fried shrimp and French fries. The place was over crowded which should have not been the case due to Covid. So I finally got my food and I was highly disappointed. The shrimp had minimal flavor other than tasting like chicken. So I have to say the dine in experience vs takeout is a big difference. I order take out now since covid, Also a resident of city island and my experience today i orders a 15 dollar chicken sandwich that I could have gotten at a deli for 5 dollars it was bad bread soggy fries soggy. Also ordered chicharrón de pollo and for 19 bucks it is way to little rice and tiny beans at least throw a maduro in there. And to top it off rice and beans is considered a side so if you choose fries you get chicharrón de pollo with fries for 19 dollars and they forgot the mayo/ketcho. Shoulda just cooked ‍ read more

Horrible food. The wait at my table for the food was 1hr and 30 minutes long. No one came to the table to let us know about the delay or if we needed anything. Then get the food and it was cold. Plain old disgusting. I don't recommend this place at all. Zero stars for this place!!! read more

Myself and my co-workers placed an order via Grubhub for VistaMar Express and I've ordered from there before since I work on City Island. 1st we waited an hour for the ABSOLUTE WORST MEALS EVER! I ordered a Cheeseburger medium well what I got was a disgusting frozen patty that was damn near raw and I threw it out. My Co-worker ordered the Roasted Pork (pernil) Lunch Special she said the rice was hard and the pork was unseasoned and she threw hers out. My other Co- worker ordered Empanada's which were supposed to be 2 chicken 2 beef what she got was : 2 Chicken 1Beef and a fu*king Shrimp Empanada which she is Allergic to Shrimp BTW. We've ordered from them before the Burgers used to be handmade well seasoned not frozen beef patties that are under cooked. The food used to have Flavor but has definitely gone down the drain and I will NEVER order from them again not even if they were the last place on the earth. Oh when I called and told the guy who answered that 1 of the Empanada was Shrimp he conveniently disconnected the call. read more

Nothing has changed since 2018 Ms. Justine. You still have the same music and nothing exciting on the menu to eat. Kwame and all other staff members working very hard are still pleasant. However, you have shown that customers suggestion means nothing. That's definitely a reflection on the atmosphere of your establishment. read more

I celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday at this location on September 21st although it was very last minute the staff was good at accommodating us. The ambiance and the music was overall nice, however the food was not comparable to the price. There were 18 people in my party and out of 18, 5 sent their food back and one was so dissatisfied he didn't eat the food ( his very expensive steak was burned). When I received the bill it was well over 1000.00 some of the meals that was sent back was still on the bill. With all the meal discrepancies you would have thought a manager would have come out to rectify some of the issues, that's a NO. Not one manager came out. I found that to be very unprofessional and disrespectful. When someone comes to your establishment and pays over 1000.00 dollars for food and 5 people at a table went back home without eating, you as the manager should have found your way to the table. This was a suppose to be special moment for a young lady who is entering adulthood and it was somewhat tarnished. I would never come back to this establishment again. This place needs better chefs and management. read more

if you like good food, poor service and a bland atmosphere, this is the place for you! The food was very good but the service was awful. Our family visited Vistamar for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, first we drove through the practically empty lot to hand the vehicle over to valet...unnecessary! The hostess didn't bother to greet us or at the very least crack a smile before she took her precious time to lead us to a table...there were only 4 other tables occupied at the time. Our server didn't bother to take beverage orders from my teenage siblings. We barely saw our server during our visit, despite the fact that the restaurant only had about 7 or 8 other diners among three other tables. We were never visited for drink refills, for this we had to flag her down. While we ate, a photographer snapped photos from a couple of steps away with no warning. The restaurant itself is bland, plain, sad white walls, maybe 2 or 3 plants? The decor resembles that of a cheap party hall. There is a TV screen near the hostess, showing photos of either guests dining. No charm, whatsoever. Of course, we had to wait for the valet to hand us our car keys because the car is "right there" in the practically empty parking lot. The majority of the cars in the lot belonged to employees. To sum it all up, we would not recommend this restaurant. You can get good food at a number of other restaurants on the street! read more
