I really tried to like this place but couldnt. For those that dont know fhis is the same location that was once Don Coqui. Now under a different name, you expected change but there wasnt. The layout remains the same.
We came for A good friend's birthday party and the family have rented out the hall to the right side of the entrance. the party was set to start at eight o'clock, but we all had to arrive by seven thirty. Needless to say, there were already issues when we arrived. The first part is that they charge you $10 to park your car. However it's not actually valet Because you are given your keys back. And you pick up your car at the end of the night. So they pretty much, they just charge you to park it somewhere. Now, knowing that the party starts at eight, you would think that they would have had the room set up well before 8pm. but Alas they did not. The entire party was forced to wait in the waiting area where there was nowhere to stand or sit after a while. Eventually we were sat down in the room. And the first thing I noticed is that Some of the cushions on the chairs were stained and dirty. The second part I noticed is that the chairs were not the same. Some had a removable pad that was just placed on top of it, while the other ones had a better construction. But that's not a big issue. After that, we noticed that they were very, very slow and bringing drinks whether it was alcohol, water or regular soft drinks. To add context, we each paid a little over 100 dollars per person for the private party. I would think they would be a bit more hospitable And prepared. Which they weren't of course. Then we ordered our drinks, which were pricey to begin with and horribly made. My two friends ordered amaretto sours and one of them ordered a diet soda. They brought the drinks close to 30 minutes later. The drinks tasted more like flavored water with the sour mix than the actual mixed alcoholic drink. Also, they didnt have an appropriate method of billing. Instead of giving people the option of a tab either per table or per person, they actually charge you immediately after each drink and you have to pay as you get the drink. This was problematic, because the servers would hover around you until you paid them, which takes away from the dining experience. But here's the kicker we already have gratuity included in What we paid per person, yet while they serve your drinks, they add an additional 18% gratuity, which means that your Paying gratuity each time you get a drink. What's even crazier is that diet soda is not considered part of the soft drink category in their eyes. They charged my friend $5.62 for a small wine glass of soda. We were bothered by this method of billing and A lot of the other family members that were in attendance had grievances with regards to what they were being billed for as well. The prefix menu looked amazing on paper. But yet when it came time to eat, it was not a prefix menu and they provided less than half of what was already on the menu, instead, they served you as a buffet style, meaning this place choose to remove the food that was already promised for the price per person. And I don't know if they even had a conversation with the people that threw the party.
So here comes my issue with the food first. Their Caesar salad tasted pretty bad, almost as if somebody dropped rubbing alcohol in the dressing. THE pernil was decent, The yellow rice was o k, but the salmon was not tasty and the penne a la vokda Had a unique sour taste to it. Which made me wonder if it was spoiled. Now mind you, the party started at 8. We did not get fed close till ten. In all, this wasn't a very good experience. And I can see why this place has such low star ratings. This is one of those places that attempts to be trendy by becoming severely overpriced with under whelming food. I cannot in good faith Recommend this place to anybody. From charging people to park inside the lot without giving them a full valet experience, To charging people per drink at each sitting as if you were sitting at the bar. And then forcing an 18% gratuity for each drink. Charging for diet soda because they dont consider it part of the soft drink menu, And then to not honor the menu that was put forward by them for the private party, its no wonder why i see so many bad reviews. read more
