My appointment was to pick out frames as I had received a prescription earlier this year from a different eye care company. I have NEVER had an experience like this. Deliah sat me down, asked what I liked -shape, colors, etc - asked if I had any photos and started getting to work. She chose frames that would compliment my bone structure, colors that compliment my eye color, skin color and hair color. The first pair she brought out I thought "oh these are the ONES" then she brought out another and another and I loved every single one of them! I ended up buying two pairs. One for the spring/summer and one for the fall/winter. I regret nothing! I had been going to an eye care place in tacoma for the past 19 years and never had an experience like this. I only remember ever picking out 2 frames in the entire 19 years of going there that I loved. Every other time I was just picking the "best" out of what they had. That's why I ultimately started shopping around elsewhere bc I wanted to LOVE my glasses, not just settle for a pair and count down the days until I could get a new pair. I found Rouse eye care by searching on VSP's website for an in network provider. I am so happy that I found them!

My initial experience was good. I had a prescription from another OD and needed new progressive…read moretrifocals. I thought it was odd that I needed an appointment just to look at frames and and for someone in the "Optical" department to measure me for new lenses. I needed another appointment to pick up the new ones but did not see well with them and returned them. Someone there (I don't recall who) suggested I come back to have my vision re-checked by Ben Wong. I made another appointment and Dr. Wong issued a different prescription for new lenses. The same person in "Optical" handled the new order and I was not charged for the second go round. I made yet another appointment to pick them up. They seemed okay there in the store. But I could not use them using a computer or just reading. I tried desperately to adjust to them for two weeks, then simply gave up out of frustration. Long story short - the PD (pupillary distance) had been measured incorrectly and I experienced headaches, eye strain, and neck aches during those two weeks. I had not been give a detailed billing statement and asked for one a couple of weeks later. After reviewing the charges, I saw that I had been give bifocals - not the trifocals I had ordered! In addition, the person who assisted me in "Optical" apparently needs professional training. My confidence and trust in their business is completely destroyed. I emailed them three days ago with my complaints and asked for a refund. They thanked me for my concerns and said they would get back to me "when [they] we have more information." I am waiting.

They recommend PCLI, Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute here in Olympia. After calling them and leaving 2 messages with no response and reading their reviews, I tried Rudd Vision in Puyallup. I would highly recommend going there if you need surgery. They got me in and did both of my eyes about a week apart, they are AWESOME! I would highly recommend making the drive if you really care about your eyes. I finally got a return call from PCLI a week later. I hope they read this and improve their office skills. It's not like I was calling a shop to have my tires replaced. If you're not competent enough to return 2 messages that reflects on the entire operation. If you get a referral, make sure you ask for Dr Rudd in Puyallup.

No phone trees here. Booking an appointment is easy and not 3 months out. The office is very clean, hip, and modern. Parking is quick, easy and free. Staff is very efficient, friendly and professional. They took my daughter and I back before our appointment time. No waiting past your appointment time here. They actually respect your time. Dr. Hamblet was so warm and kind. She never seemed hurried and seemed to love interacting with us and answering questions. She lives in the community and seems invested in her community, which I also love. The technology she uses was modern and up to date. So very different than Clarus. She was extremely knowledgeable and even had a retinal scan that shows intricate parts of your eye which indicates several possible health issues. Insurance does not cover this test but for 39 it was very well worth it to me to pay it out of pocket for me and my children. My daughter and son both ordered glasses. They have a very wide selection of glasses and the technician who helped with the selection was very helpful, patient, and answered 101 questions. Basically, we are very lucky to have this talented doctor and staff in our little town of Tumwater. I am very impressed and have already referred co-workers and friends.

I got a second pair but the prescription isn't quite right and the area for clear reading is tiny. I've been going to Clarus since I moved to Olympia12 years ago. The care was decent at first (I had…read morea history of a retina condition, so they would schedule me with an ophthalmologist for my routine exams) but in recent years I noticed they make no attempt whatsoever at continuity of care, they just schedule you with a random provider. Two visits ago, they had the radio playing in the waiting room. Reception was terrible, mostly static, and I asked the receptionist to turn it off or re-tune it. She told me she "wasn't allowed" to touch the radio. So I mentioned it to the tech when she called me back. She looked at me like I was nuts, offering helpfully, "I just tune that out". Last visit, the optometrist was using a scribe, and she dictated a term to him that was unfamiliar to me. I interrupted her to ask her what it meant, and she acted annoyed and told me to " save (my) questions for later". Of course, later never came. Last week, I called and was offered an appointment over 2 months out. The only time available was 7:45 am. I appreciate they are open extended hours to accommodate more patients, but I decided to get a referral from McKenzie at Capital Eye (by the Fred Meyer in Lacey). She recommended an optometrist only group in Tumwater. I saw them this morning and the experience was 180 degrees--nice office, up to date equipment, good bedside manner etc. The only reason I give Clarus 2 stars is they do have ophthalmologists. So if you do need cataract or retina surgery or something like that, it might be a place to consider. And oh yeah, they do have nice frames and the gal who helped me pick out my last pair listened carefully to what I wanted and helped me pick out a better pair than I would have chosen for myself.
