I've been going to Clarus since I moved to Olympia12 years ago. The care was decent at first (I had…read morea history of a retina condition, so they would schedule me with an ophthalmologist for my routine exams) but in recent years I noticed they make no attempt whatsoever at continuity of care, they just schedule you with a random provider. Two visits ago, they had the radio playing in the waiting room. Reception was terrible, mostly static, and I asked the receptionist to turn it off or re-tune it. She told me she "wasn't allowed" to touch the radio. So I mentioned it to the tech when she called me back. She looked at me like I was nuts, offering helpfully, "I just tune that out". Last visit, the optometrist was using a scribe, and she dictated a term to him that was unfamiliar to me. I interrupted her to ask her what it meant, and she acted annoyed and told me to " save (my) questions for later". Of course, later never came. Last week, I called and was offered an appointment over 2 months out. The only time available was 7:45 am. I appreciate they are open extended hours to accommodate more patients, but I decided to get a referral from McKenzie at Capital Eye (by the Fred Meyer in Lacey). She recommended an optometrist only group in Tumwater. I saw them this morning and the experience was 180 degrees--nice office, up to date equipment, good bedside manner etc. The only reason I give Clarus 2 stars is they do have ophthalmologists. So if you do need cataract or retina surgery or something like that, it might be a place to consider. And oh yeah, they do have nice frames and the gal who helped me pick out my last pair listened carefully to what I wanted and helped me pick out a better pair than I would have chosen for myself.

Absolutely the WORST retail service I've had in years! The…read moreVA paid for my retina scan at Clarus. The VA paid for my eye exam at Clarus. The VA was going to pay for new glasses for me presumedly at Clarus. But Frank at Clarus knows all about how it's really supposed to work with the VA and completely disregarded copies of the VA authorizations I shared with him. Again, Frank knows how it works and what the VA gave me is wrong (if he even read it which I doubt). Frank even has a piece of paper handout created there at Clarus he gave me again stating He was right and the documentation I had from the VA was wrong. Veterans under VA care are entitled to two pairs of glasses every couple of years. Maybe those are the Veterans Frank's piece of paper directions apply to. I'm a Veteran that has a disability from an eye infection I had in Vietnam some 50 years ago. Maybe, just maybe, I'm different than the Veterans Sir Frank's piece of paper might apply to. I will never, EVER again try to deal with the Clarus Eye Center.

Sharp Vision in Renton and Bellevue, Washington, is absolutely FANTASTIC…read more I called them on June 9 and was able to get in the very next morning at 9:00. I went through the preliminary testing and explained what I wanted. I wanted monovision because I had done that before with contacts, and they told me, "Yes, we can do that." They put me through the testing, and the next day I met with the surgeon. He said, "Sure, we can do this for you. No sweat." That was exactly what I needed to hear. I was scheduled for the following Tuesday for my first eye, had the procedure done, and went back the next day for the follow-up. Everything was healing nicely. The one thing I really want to say is that everybody -- the doctors, the receptionists, the scheduling staff, the people on the phone, everyone -- was FANTASTIC. This outfit is the greatest. If you need eye surgery, LASIK, cataract surgery, or anything else Sharp Vision provides, do yourself the biggest favor and go there first. I highly, highly recommend Sharp Vision for all of your eye care needs.

I gave 2 stars because of the billing experience. Dr. Schmidt was wonderful, and the surgery nurses…read morehad excellent bedside manner. They made me feel comfortable throughout the procedure. Before my surgery, I was quoted a price weeks in advance and paid it in full. Unfortunately, I wasn't a candidate for LASIK, which was disappointing, but Dr. Schmidt was able to perform the procedure manually instead. Since the LASIK portion wasn't done, I was told the procedure should have cost about $2,000 less. At my follow-up appointment, I didn't see Dr. Schmidt. Instead, I saw another doctor after waiting nearly 40 minutes for an exam that lasted less than five minutes. When I asked about the $2,000 difference, I was told that I actually owed an additional $900 because a deductible had been applied after my original quote. This was extremely frustrating. If I had been informed before surgery that my out-of-pocket cost would increase by $900, I could have planned and budgeted accordingly. Instead, I was given one price, paid it upfront, and then was surprised with an unexpected bill afterward. The medical care itself was great, but the lack of transparency and communication about billing left me very disappointed.

This morning when I woke up (morning after procedure) I looked across the room and saw a clock on the dresser that I could never have seen and saw the time clearly. It was so amazing I broke into tears. The staff and doctors take such good care of you. I was scared, they were calm and walked me through it. They took away my fear, gave me hope and then gave me vision. They let me see the world and for that, I will never be able to thank them enough. Exemplary care!

BEST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT! At 63 I was just done with readers. I couldn't read my phone, my watch,…read moremy Bible or a menu. I decided I'd end up investing in my eyes one way or another so I might as well do it at 63 and enjoy 40 more years of great eyesight, rather than waiting another 10 years. I'm so glad I did, and I wish I would've done it sooner! I had RLE surgery. What they say IS true: the surgery literally takes six minutes, it's absolutely painless, and quite honestly you don't even realize what they're doing (even though your eye is open, you can't see any surgical tools!). You're in and out of the office in a few hours. I woke up the next morning and for the first time in over 10 years, I did not need my readers, hallelujah! By day 2 my distance vision, which has always been awesome, was completely restored. I met both Dr. King and Dr. Kopstein as part of the process. They're both just as nice as can be, as are the members of their staff. They explained things every step of the way, and always ensured I was confident and comfortable. Honestly, if you're even remotely thinking of doing this, take the next step and take advantage of the free Zoom call consult, as well as the no charge in office visit to determine the best course of action for your individual eyes. You won't regret it!

I have diabetic retinopathy, and Dr Hansen began to 'abrasively' ask me if I was aware of all the symptoms of my disease. Before I could answer the question, he continued on, reading from notes my retinal specialist had sent in, highlighting one horrendous diabetic symptom after the next. When I told him those notes were from 21/2 yrs ago, and my current condition had improved since then, he argued with me stating that the notes were from July this year (2023). It was as though he was 'illness-shaming' me in front of his assistant. His tone & manner was without empathy & utterly unprofessional. In the midst of this awful exchange, I thanked him & took my leave. His last words to me on the way out: "Nice workin' with ya!" I certainly wouldn't recommend anybody support a medical practitioner who treats his patients this way.
