We have 35year old Baldwin locks on our doors and have been trying to repair them for over a year. Finally, after trying to work with Baldwin, my husband went to Vista Lock to get the right parts. He got the lock installed but needed help getting it fine tuned. The Vista service man came out and spent 15minutes, got things as good as can be, then left without charging us a dime. I love working with these guys. I run a real estate brokerage and property management company, so hardly a week goes by that I don't need keys or lock service, and I know I can rely on Vista Lock and Safe to do the job right, and on time. They are especially helpful with obscure lock configurations - able usually to open a strange lock in a couple of minutes and cut me a key to fit. Of course, the Big Box stores will cut keys for a much lower price, but back in the days when I tried that, half the time the new key would not work. I'd rather pay a bit extra and know I will have no problems. read more

I bought a couple of Acura keys on ebay. VL&S couldn't program them because the chips were incorrect for my model. Instead he cloned my working key onto some blanks that he had in stock. They worked great. Good price, great service. Would definitely recommend and use again. Caution to ebay bargain buyers like me. My $15 key blanks wouldn't work on my car. I don't know if they were the wrong chips for that year or what. I also bought a lock remote. Good news and bad news. Good news - I was able to program the remote. Bad news - it doesn't adjust the seat to driver number 1 or driver number 2. read more

Paul, with Vista Lock and Safe, just finished putting a lockset on our new gate. The door is significantly thicker than the usual door/gate and we needed a hole cut into the metal post. For starters, I had searched the internet and gone to some pretty high-end hardware stores, actually drove all the way to San Diego for nothing. Paul came out to see what I had because he could tell by my description, it was not the usual install. He took photos of what I already had, did the research, found a matching lockset that matched my house hardware, and made sure it could be altered to fit the thickness, keyed it the same as my house! Avoid this Business !!!!! I paid $300.00 for a new remote and key for a 20016 Toyota. When the parts came in it became a real inconvenience for them to do the work. they do not know what an appointment is. There is only one person there that can program the remotes and he has real bad attitude. So when Mr. happy gets done programming the remote he tells me he can't cut the master key??? He then just says you need to go to the dealer to have this done. Another employee caught me on my way out of the parking lot and gave me $40.00 for the master key. Toyota of Carlsbad charged me $130.00. $400.00 and half a day later I got my keys made. read more

I've been a customer for many, many years and have spent thousands of dollars at VLS. The owner is excellent and provides outstanding service every time, all the time. A young man (I think a family member) used to work for him and also provided excellent customer service, but I don't think he works for him anymore. On the other hand, he has a helper probably in his late 50s or 60s who provides terrible customer service all the time. He is always in a crappy mood. Every single time I've interacted with him, I've had a negative experience. I have recommended this place to many, many people and I get the same story from them when this guy provides service.... it's always negative. The owner knows about the problems with this guy and does nothing about it. For this reason I have now moved to a different lock and safe in Carlsbad where I always get excellent customer service from ALL staff. I gave this place a 3 stars mainly because of the owner, otherwise I would have given it a zero. If you are lucky, the owner will be at the shop and will take great care of you, otherwise turn around and walk out. read more

Got a lock assembly repaired by Vista Lock and Safe - took the whole shebang, knobs and all, out of the wood & glass sliding doors and down to their shop. The technician was a little taken aback at first by the pile of parts I plunked down on their counter in a cardboard box, including the spring that had popped out when I'd tried to fix it myself a year ago, but I got it back repaired and ready to go in about an hour and a half! They were knowledgeable, fast and courteous. I had the displeasure of having to deal with the owner who started to help with getting my car key programmed but then would start helping other people. After this went on for an hour, he said I would have to wait another 30 minutes unless more customers walk in. Then he told me I would have to make an appointment. When I asked why he didn't tell me that when I came in and that I was not going to wait while he serves others, he "banned " me from the business. Do yourself a favor. Had a key duplicated for my Doge Caravan. They sold me a cloned key not an original and charged me $80.00. They never told me it had a battery and if it died it would no longer work. Well the battery died and I was stuck...to make matters worse, the dead key activated a security lockout. I called V.L&S and they told me it would cost 200.00 unlock the security lock out and 80 for another cloned key...bummer. I was then instructed to go to the dealer to get a security code so they could unlock the security system faster or it would cost more...l ended up having the van towed to the dealer. They reset the security lock out and sold me two new original non battery powered keys for $150...I think Vista Lock and Safe is a shady outfit and takes advantage of people who are distress. They were only interested in charging me as much as possible...! Beware of Vista Lock and Safe...! read more
