Despite the fact that Vision Works confirmed my appointment - in both text messages and email messages - I showed up 5 minutes before my appointment (after taking time off from work) and I was told "the system" cancelled my appointment and replaced me with another customer. The person working there started raising her voice at me impatiently, as she was mostly uninterested in my texts or email confirmations, which I presented to her. I wasn't at fault - but I was the one receiving all the rotten attitude. No thanks. I've been a customer at this place for 10-15 years and this wasn't the first problem I've had. Good selection of glasses, the only problem is the service. I'm trying to be understanding because of COVID, but I've had two poor experiences now. I bought a new pair of glasses, and less than 1 week later my nose pieces fell off and the screws were gone. At least that was an easy fix, and the employee who replaced the nose pieces was fairly friendly, but it was an inconvenience to say the least. I went back for a repair a second time because one of my lenses was popping out of the frame a few days later. The very rude employee (an older grumpy woman) insisted that it was supposed to be that way because one lease may be a different prescription. I explained that i have the same prescription in both eyes. She still refused to fix them, so I was sent away. Today I went to Visionworks in Waukesha for a second opinion (also inconvenient). The employee told me that it was NOT normal whatsoever. She fixed it in 2 minutes. Will definitely be going to the Waukesha location from now on, or a different company all together. read more

I have shopped at other eye wear stores, and have purchased more than I care to admit of eyeglasses, but this particular VisionWorks is the only store that I have found that gives such personal service. The staff actually care about each customer and give great advice on the purchase of the frames and lenses. Every time I walk in to VisionWorks on Bluemound, I feel like I am with friends because they make you feel comfortable and give you enough time and space to look around to find that "perfect" pair(s). The store is always clean, organized and well stocked with a great selection of frames. A couple of times I've tried other places, even went to a really expensive eye wear store last year, but have returned to Visionworks in Brookfield. Recently purchased two pair of reading glasses at the Mequon store during a 2 for one sale. Satisfied with everything. My wife suggested that I go back and get a pair of prescription sunglasses. I purchased a very expensive pair of designer glasses. The young service girl asked at that time if I wanted a second pair free as the sale was still in process. Without thinking it through, that a backup pair would be good, I declined the offer. My new pair were finished in a couple of days and when I picked them up I told the same gal that I would take that second pair. I should start off by saying I only went to this company for my eye exam/contacts because I get an annual credit through my health insurance. I'll be calling my insurance and telling them to direct people to a different company from now on. They were unprofessional and disorganized. The customer service ranged from barely passable to very poor. When I stopped in today for a followup appointment and to order my contacts, they were clearly not ready for me. No one seemed to know very much about how to make the insurance credit work even though they made a copy of my insurance card when I was there for the eye exam. So I ended up waiting over 30min for them to figure that out, they didn't appear to be concerned with how long it was taking. When everything was figured out, I ended up being charged over $90 more than I expected, due to the contacts I was fitted for being more expensive than they implied and a hidden fitting charge not covered by my insurance no one had mentioned until the checkout. I should just walked out, but dangit, I'm too polite for my own good. I paid the cost, but I plan on telling everyone I know to avoid this place. read more

I would give ZERO stars if I could. I have never had such a struggle anywhere before. First of all, the day I went in for my eye exam, everything was fine up until after the exam when I first could NOT fit contacts in my eyes because they were way too big for my eyes, I asked them for smaller ones and they said they do not come smaller because I have an astigmatism in both eyes, my mom has one and her contacts are 14.2 while the ones they gave me were 14.5. Then they tried to tell me my insurance didn't cover both contacts and glasses, which I knew it did, they confirmed over the phone with my insurance yet told me they couldn't do anything until the next day. Go back the next day, got all that figured out, whatever. I called back to ask about a smaller pair of contacts since they were non-select therefore i'd have to pay a $49 contact fitting fee, not paying for a FITTING for contacts that wont FIT in my eye. Then they proceed to get an attitude with me for saying i'm not paying and they need to find me something else. Fast forward to the day of my follow up and they give me another brand but SAME size (14.5). I told them I just wanted whatever brand was covered under my insurance. I was told that this brand (Alcon Dailies Aquacomfort Plus Toric) did NOT come in my prescription and only went up to -1.75, which was a lie. I have found up to -6.00 on that exact brand. They claimed that brand is what they gave me, but I looked when I got home, and it is totally different, the ones I asked for are also a 14.4 diameter NOT 14.5. They are just trying to get every single penny they can out of me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE AT ALL!!! YOU WILL GET NOTHING BUT ATTITUDE AND LIES! read more

Shady place. Went with my wife for eye exams and I need new glasses. The optometrist wasn't terribly cheery but I wasn't concerned as I didn't go to socialize. I became concerned when no one could seemingly get the billing straight after the appointment and no one could clearly delineate for me what the costs of our exam were and what insurance might pay. We came to find insurance covers the examination but when we called back they stated "we don't bill medical" insurance (despite telling my wife over the phone that they accept our insurance before we ever arrived). We checked with the insurance company - this place/provider is obligated by contract with the insurance company to bill for reimbursement which they failed to do. It took our insurance representative calling the vision works to get this worked out . Frankly negligent. They proceeded to then state a "contact lens" exam is not covered and still charged us 50$ for this. Had I not asked about sample eye contacts that are any better for dry eyes these days I wouldn't have received a 3 day sample box and this bill I presume...it wasn't worth it I'll say that. This place is the pits. Avoid at all costs unless you wish to get nickel and dimed at every turn. Better business bureau would be interested in this branch I bet - fraudulent billing practices. I had been a long time Stein's customer and foolishly assumed that the superior selection and customer service would continue after Stein's death and the subsequent sale of the business to Visionworks. I could not have been more wrong. I had cataract surgery long ago, and corrective lenses implanted. My vision has not changed or deteriorated but my internist, because of other health problems said I need to have a vision exam. So, although I have several pairs of somewhat dated glasses that serve me well, I scheduled an exam, and decided to purchase some spares on the basis of their two for one sale. Wrong again. I had the exam and they made me two pairs of glasses from a limited selection of frames. When the glasses were ready, they were not satisfactory. I tried them for a couple of weeks but they were blurry. I went back and told them they needed to redo the glasses. They did. Same result. They redid the eye exam. Same result. I asked them to just duplicate the correction on my old glasses and they refused. I met with their examiner and he was resistant to making any further correction. My total bill was three times their advertised two for one sale . I now have two pairs of useless glasses, I'm out of pocket for almost $200 but I hope this information will save some person who can't afford that kind of wallet slam the disappointment of patronizing this business. Got my last few prescriptions at Visionworks. The people and the selection are nice, but I feel like I got ripped off with their lenses. The short version: don't waste your money on their extras. I'm in video production, so accurate eyesight is important to me. I went with the special "digital" lenses, thinking they would improve my vision and make it easier to view small LCD screens on cameras. I got the digital lenses and the polarization, and the result is more eye strain than with my old glasses. I still see fine, but my eyes are constantly hunting the lenses for the right spot to maximize vision. The opposite was promised. I know there are companies that create digital lenses which are actually said to be better, but Visionworks' products (not made by any of the major lens manufacturers, so you can't compare) are money for nothing. read more

VERY BAD SERVICE AND LOW-QUALITY PRODUCTS In one word: just don't go. Big scam. You'll end up paying more than what they advertise/claim, and getting low-quality service and products. No way to get things corrected either through the store manager or general customer service. I had a very bad experience with this store and their customer service. Stopped by the store one day before the exam, provided the agent with required personal and insurance information, who confirmed my copay and scheduled an exam for the following day. After the exam, I was asked to pay more than 4 times of my insurance copay with stupid explanations about additional services they provided. I ended up paying more than what I should have paid due to the agent's not understanding of insurance terms and due to deceiving me by providing incorrect information in the first place. Then, when choosing products and features, you'll be told that they don't carry the 'exact' features that your insurance plan covers, but they have other features that cost more! Not only this, but in the end, you'll get poor quality products, again due to people there not understanding what they are doing. I had my glasses redone with thicker lenses while they charged me for the more expensive thinner lenses that caused a lot of blurring when I wore them. When you try to speak to the store manager, expect you will be yelled at, as this seems to be the norm of how these people treat customers. Reaching out to customer service by phone is completely useless. So, in summary, very bad service and products. Don't go and save yourself a bad experience and wasted money. read more

Update: So after I posted my original post, I received a call from the manager, Wendy. She was pretty amazing! She was understanding, she listened to my concerns and she went over and beyond to ensure me that what I experienced on that dreadful day, was NOT how Vision Works operate. She made sure that going forward, I only work with her or the other supervisor, Tanya. I went in last week, after calling to see if my glasses had arrived. I was advised that they had. I scheduled to meet with Tanya the next day. She was very sweet, interacted with my children, you know, treated us how you're supposed to treat paying customers and/or how you're supposed to treat human beings period! Followed up with Wendy today because I noticed that I didn't have one of those cleaning cloths and my glasses attract smudges like no other ‍. Once again, Wendy was amazing, she remembered who I was and she made sure that I am getting what I need. 60+ minute waits after appointment scheduled time, zero sense of urgency, overall lack of confidence in staff knowledge

I was just in visionworks this weekend with my aunt who wanted to buy two pairs of glasses. She already had her prescription but wanted to get her frames from there since her co worker received nice looking frames and recommended this location. When we arrived one of the women asked what we wanted, which was frames and she stated she will be with us after shortly. One of the other women was working with a customer at this time. We looked at frames for about 20 min as people came in and out of the store. The one woman that said she would get to us was working with the customer she initially had and another walkin who had came in AFTER us. So we continue waiting with two frames we would like to purchase. More people are walking in and being helped as we wait sitting right next to an associate. She NEVER helped us pick out anything never asked if we needed help and took customers who came in after us without acknowledging our presence. To make a long story short... we left unhappy, upset, and empty handed. They were extremely rude and had horrible customer service. I will NEVER go to this location to make my purchase for eyewear. read more

My daughter had an appointment today 1/3/18. The receptionist "Wendy" was rude and not very helpful. Even though, a receptionist called me the night before for my insurance information. I was told on the day of the appointment that my insurance was not one that they accept. I then, said to Wendy why wouldn't you have told me the night before that my insurance was one that you do not accept. I still preceded with the appointment. I was in the Brookfield store 2 days ago and walked out. I was greeted by someone who gestured toward the display of frames for women, without offering to help. After looking through the selection for a few minutes, a woman came over offering assistance, but then she decided to argue with me about the width of the frames I needed among other things. The next thing I knew she had disappeared and was chatting with another employee. Is that what they consider any kind of customer service? I heard the store manager say, "What the heck" as I left, so maybe he educated the disappearing employee later. I hope so, but I definitely won't go back to find out. read more

This may be the worst eye store I have ever gone to with the most incompetent staff I have ever seen. First let me say Dr. Dusenberry who did my exam was very good and the only reason I went back and didn't cancel my order. First visit I was told my glasses would be ready at 3:00 the same day, I didn't go back until the next day, I was told they had to ship them out and they wouldn't be back for a week, I asked what a about a phone call so I didn't waste my time coming back and was told they don't make calls for that. I should have called and checked. The prescription wasn't quite exact so I went back to Dr. Dusenbeery and had it adjusted, Again he was very helpful and fixed the problem. Just one lens had to be changed. He walked me up front with my glasses in a tray and checked in back and said I could either wait for them to change my one lens or come back in an hour, I came back 4 hours later. The lady at the counter told me to have a seat and went in back to get my glasses, I watched her walk back there 3 times and check everywhere for them, After about 10 minutes she came over and said she couldn't locate them. She went back up to the front desk and there they were, Still in the same tray just sitting there. Really? Three workers but not one of them had ever taken them in back to be worked on. Just sitting right on top of the counter. When they finally took them back there I was informed they would have to ship them out and it would take another week. Good thing I didn't sit and wait for them like I was told I could do 4 hours ago. No real apologies just told they would have had to be shipped out anyway. Don't work here EVER! This place tolerates bullying, intimidation, threats and verbal abuse towards their employees from customers. I was called a "f**king bitch" by a customer for enforcing the company's return policy. The customer left and complained to corporate about me for not taking back the glasses. I was then forced to give this abusive customer a free pair of glasses. I did not want to ring up the order based on principle so I gave it to my co-worker to ring though. I was then scolded for not putting the order through myself. The Brookfield location is always short staffed(I wonder why? I should have taken that as a HUGE red flag.) And the sense of urgency to hire is not there by the manager. So customers are always angry and rude for having to wait. This was a very stressful environment to work in on a daily basis. The Brookfield manager is also terrible about giving her employees a work/life balance. She will have you work for 14 days in a row with no off days and schedule you to close the store and be there cleaning until 10 p.m. and then have you back opening at 8 a.m. the next day. It is unbelievable that any manager would make a schedule this poorly. She did this to all her employees. She also would bad mouth members of her staff to eachother. She remarked to me that one of my co-workers was a "f**king idiot" for getting confused about a customer's insurance policy. This behavior is extremely unprofessional and wrong. I can not even imagine what was said about me behind my back. This company does not protect or stand up for their biggest asset which is their employees. They tolerate abuse from customers towards their staff. They do not hire enough people to cover their store, and their schedule is awful for anyone wanting a work/life balance. I scheduled an appointment for 6:00 p.m. today. I completed paperwork online prior to my appointment as instructed. I arrived at 5:50 p.m. and checked in. I was told to look around and that someone would be with me shortly. After 10 minutes I took a seat to wait. Shortly after this, another person waiting was called by the doctor. The woman sitting next to me who was there when I arrived asked when she was going to be called as she had a 5:30 appointment. The employee then informed both of us that the doctor was running approximately 45 minutes behind. Never mentioned this when I checked in, no phone call to say they were running so far behind. Nothing. No apology. It is absolutely unconscionable to be running that far behind and do absolutely nothing to give customers a heads up. I walked out and will not return. I would go without glasses before buying another pair of glasses from Visionworks. Just about every couple months I end up going back to have my glasses fixed. The lens comes out. I have not been happy since I bought them. I used to go to a place in Waukesha and believe me, I will go there from now on. The " manager " hissed at the clerk " FIX IT !" and walked away. They had my name misspelled and after searching, found they had a different date for my appointment than I had been told.
