I began coming here in 2019 as a family of 6 and growing kids; the staff has been patient and caring. I cannot praise them enough. If you have kids, get the warranty; it's worth it. My recent visit to Visionworks was incredibly frustrating. When I arrived to shop for glasses, an associate acknowledged me but remained seated across the sales floor, watching videos on her phone and wearing a Bluetooth earpiece that played music audibly throughout our entire interaction...including the purchase. It felt like a clear signal that helping customers wasn't her priority. I browsed on my own, found a pair of glasses, and had to approach her to start the purchase. When I asked if there were other models in the same brand, she said she could only look them up if I had the SKU number. It felt more like I was interrupting her than being helped. About a week later, I came back to pick up the glasses after getting a pickup notification. When I entered, a different associate asked what I needed, and I said I was there for pickup. She told me to wait off to the side and I did. Then, another man walked in after me asking about available frames. Instead of finishing my pickup, she began helping him...searching the system and eventually chatting with him casually while checking her phone. I was left waiting, completely ignored, for over 15 minutes. When she finally brought my glasses over, she simply said, "They're already paid for, so you can leave when you want." I asked if they could tighten my old pair of glasses. She said yes just bring in the old pair and we can fix them. I then told her that I had the old pair with me and she simply said, "Not today." No explanation. The store was not busy, and there were still three hours until closing. When I asked again, if she could fix them today to save me a trip coming back, she simply repeated, "Not today." I said, Ok and walked out confused and honestly a little stunned. It wasn't just unhelpful -- it felt pointed. I can't say for sure why I was treated so dismissively, but when someone else walks in after you and receives full attention while you're made to wait without cause, it's hard not to wonder if bias played a role. I was given no other explanation. I get that the abhorrent behavior of our president has everyone on edge but that's still not a good excuse. This experience made me feel like my time and my business didn't matter. I won't be returning, and I would strongly caution others before doing business at this location. read more

Sooo my daughter came to this Visionworks to get new glasses after 2 months of living without them because of of our new quarantined corona virus lives. I digress... Visionworks was the ONLY place that was open to service people at the beginning of May and since the blind do like to see my daughter made of of the first appointments. When she came home all she could do was rave about the customer service. From the greeting, temperature checking, area wiping, optomologist I made an appointment for the same place and This was the BEST customer service I've EVER had getting my glasses. The Store Manager Sandi serviced me and she was the most knowledgeable and friendliest salesperson. And I used the word salesperson because everyone knows that they are there to sale you glasses but this experience made me feel like she was trying her best to make sure I simply got what I needed. The store was closing and even though I acknowledged the time and said I'd come back another day the associates were VERY nice to me and never made me feel rushed. Not only that but during this very scary and uncertain time I was relieved to be temperature checked when I came. I also visibly saw them wiping down EVERY pair of glasses CONSTANTLY! Only time I'd suggest this Visionworks to anyone is if they like being stressed and wasting their money. I have been trying to get contacts since June, it is now September. Everytime I am scheduled for the contact fitting, there is no doctor at the location so I have to be rescheduled. I have been rescheduled 4 times now. I do not understand why an appointment that needs a doctor present, would constantly be scheduled when there won't be a doctor there. I am starting to question if any doctors are ever there, as my initial exam with the doctor was a video call. Thankfully I'm able to pay out of pocket somewhere else, otherwise I'd be trapped here in an endless cycle of rescheduling because I used my insurance with them and they state they can not give me the prescription. Long story short, this location seems to be understaffed (previous reviews state the same). I would look elsewhere for any vision needs, as they seem to not have enough staff. There's an Americas Best on the same strip, I'd try them first if you're in the area. On a positive, the staff that they do have are very friendly. IMO horrible customer service. Visited the store to have my exam forwarded to MVA and to buy glasses. Staff was unprofessional and condescending. The person assisting me contradicted herself, and contradicted the information on MVA's website. She didn't seem to understand how to use the Visionworks system and had to ask a colleague a number of questions. I have no confidence that my info will make it to MVA. I then walked down to Lenscrafter to order glasses. It's sad because the service in Lenscrafter was so much better. I've had other poor experiences at this store. I'll gladly pay more money to avoid the frustration that I experienced. read more

I've been to this vision works multiples times both for myself & my mother. It has always been a superb experience. Their frame selection has a great variety and they let you take your time, offering help when it's difficult to choose just the right pair. They took me early for my appointment, the exams were finished quickly, efficiently, and all my problems were addressed. Although it wasn't exactly a requirement, I felt that they offered a nice bit of privacy with the dark curtain to the side and the exam rooms in the back. At first I didn't think I'd find a pair of frames that would look nice on my face & considered just getting new lenses in my current pair. Seeing my disappointment, my consultant Indira stepped in and chose so many frames for me to try. To my surprise, they really did look great! I felt my confidence rise and it ended up being a tough choice. It was so nice to have her offer her sincere opinion on what looked best and a "we could do a little better" on the ones that didn't fit my style. I asked for her complete honesty and she gave it to me in a way that didn't make me feel uncomfortable, but instead reassured that we could come to a positive conclusion. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything that didn't feel just right. Indira worked with me until I happily made my decision. This was a great visit from start to finish. The facility is clean & professional, and the staff is friendly and courteous. I see there are mostly bad reviews here, but I honestly can't say enough good things about Visionworks. I recommend making an appointment and expecting to have a longer visit there. Picking out glasses isn't a quick event & some people have a harder time than others making such a big investment. They aren't cheap (especially for the quality brands they offer, but they almost always have promotional deals) and a lot of people need to take their time-- like me. They do seem a little short staffed, but they can't control how long their client will take choosing frames. They know their clients deserve that time when they invest their money and will be wearing these frames on their face for the next year. read more

After going in for a contact exam. I was told a sample was not in stock and that someone would call me as soon as they arrive. I waited a month called and spoke with star and brian who said they would talk to physician and get another brand. After another week. I went in to talk with the manager who gave me distant contacts. Which really did not help seeing as my reading was the worst issue. I go in again almost 3 months later and there is 2 contacts for me in a drawer with a sticker saying waiting on right eye. That still was not told to me or the right prescription. I had my followup that day with the physician so i could get a prescription to take to 1800contacts. I travel for work and visionworks is usually my go to. But after this experience i will start going somewhere else. This office needs a whole new staff. read more

SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE! My husband recommended this place as he was excited to be able to schedule his appointment online. It took forever for him to get his contacts. I should have stopped there but I decided to give them a try. We are new to Bowie and my previous eye doctor is an hour away. I arrived at my appointment 10 or 11 mins late. There was no parking out front and I'm pregnant. I also did not know where I was going. I was told I could not be seen and would need to reschedule. It would have been great to know this ahead of time. Most offices have a grace period. That was fine. I set another appointment. I arrived on time and even early. I was told that they canceled my appointment and they called everyone in the morning. I told them no one called as I had no missed calls or voicemails. The lady circled back and said , "oh well we did t have your number on file so we didn't call you but we emailed you." This was another lie because no one emailed me. In fact, all of my email notifications go to my phone. I left here so disappointed as I had moved so many things around and even paid for childcare. I'll be driving back to my old doctor. It's well worth the hour drive to not have to deal with this lack of professionalism. I would never do this to any of my patients. read more

Horrible service . They lost the glasses I brought to them to have the lenses changed . I've had to call multiple times before they admitted they were lost and start resolving the problem . After I said no the offer to buy myself a new pair somewhere else and trust them again to do the lenses , they agreed to buy/ order the glasses . A month later , I still don't have my glasses. I requested a refund on 04/30/23 at the Bowie, Maryland Visionworks store for 4 boxes of contacts. I received 50% of the refund on 05/03/23. I have called the store several times to inquire about getting the remaining 50% of the refund. I received a call back from the Bowie store manager on 05/16/23. I was told that the store policy is that refunds can take 10 to 30 days. She said that she would look into the status of my refund and would call me back by 3pm that same day. I have not heard from her since that morning. I made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on 05/15/23 to gain their assistance with receiving the refund. As of 05/26/23, Visionworks has not responded to the Better Business Bureau inquiry. It has now been 41 days since my refund request, which is well past the Visionworks 10 to 30 days refund policy. I still have not received the full refund. I have called the Visionworks customer service line 3 times. I've twice requested that my refund request and concerns be escalated to the next in command above the store manager, which is the territory manager. I haven't received a call or any follow up from the territory manager in the week since I requested the escalation of the matter. This lack of follow through by Visionworks shows deficient customer service with a blatant disregard for a customer's reasonable request for a refund. It should never be the case that a customer has to make repeated calls over a month to get a refund and have such limited responsiveness from the business that owes the customer the refund. Had an appt that was scheduled for a Friday, but I fell ill so I called to reschedule the appt for Sunday. get there at 1:25, get checked in, did the "pre test" and sat in the "waiting area" for an hour as I watched employees walk by and not ask anything, tell me they are running behind. nothing. my appt was at 1:30pm, I decided to walk out at 2:35pm. I'd like to start off by saying that the staff are super friendly. But When I got there for my appointment. They didn't have it on file. Which was rectified. Cool. Then they said my contacts were on backorder and I would have to wait 5 business days. Cool. I called two weeks later. They were still on "back order". Cool. Then I called two weeks after that to find that they had indeed been there the entire time. From the day of my appointment. . When I go in to pick them up. The prescription of my contacts were wrong for my right eye (although the prescription on the paper was correct.) so now I'm told I have to wait 2-3 days because they don't have those in stock. This is simply the worst experience I had buying glasses in the last 15 years. Do yourself a favor and walk across the street to Lens Crafters. I ordered frames and lenses and was told that they would be ready in 1 week. Needless to say that 3 weeks later i'm still waiting. Worst is that, whenever I call to inquire about the status of my order I am given the runaround and no straight answer, all this with attitude. Good luck talking to a manager since they just will tell you that he'll call you back in 30 minutes... which never happens. This is a company/branch that obviously does not care about the inconvenience they are causing their customers, so don't encourage that behavior by shopping there. I scheduled an appointment on March 7th for March 23rd. I completed all of the paperwork on the 7th (weeks before) so my insurance could be verified. I get to my appointment on the 23rd and I was told they had to verify my insurance. OK--no biggie--been there before this will be easy. No--come to find out they mixed my paperwork up with the lady's appointment ahead of me. So this other lady's information and mine where intertwined somehow. I had to have my paperwork all re-done and also insurance verified still! Ms. "Brooks" (supposedly the manager which is scary that a manager acts like this!) said she couldn't verify it because all I had was medical and dental. Clearly her inexperience showed since my annual eye exam is part of my "medical" insurance. Aetna was closed so it couldn't be verified even by me except on my Aetna app. This wasn't good enough for her. I left. Ridiculous! Ms "Brooks" was rude and not helpful AT ALL! I see why the store gets bad ratings and reviews! I will never go back to Visionworks EVER! I will find another store or wear grocery store glasses before I EVER go into their location again! Only thing they have going is a few friendly employees. Their pricing is not transparent. Ask for full estimate with lenses and what kind of lenses from the beginning and don't waste your time here. Lens is not included in the pricing as if people would ever shop for glasses with no lenses. I got a pair from here that costed me $350+ (at first I thought it was $90....) with insurance btw and less than 1 year old, it comes apart at the leg while wiping the lens. I take it in, they can't fix it saying that I should have bight insurance on it. There are plenty of great alternatives out there these days. Stale businesses like Vision works should not thrive. Instead of getting non designer glasses for $350+, I'm getting a new one for $125 somewhere else now just after 11 months. I regret ever having gone here. read more

I was in desperate need of an eye exam and my normal vision place My Eye Doctor in Dunkirk, Maryland was closed due to the COVID Pandemic. So I decided to look around for some place to get an eye exam. I found Vision Works in Bowie and I decided to try them out and it has been the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I was warned by several co-workers to not deal with vision works, but I tried to give them a try for myself. The Visionworks Bowie Town Center, in Bowie Maryland has twice order the wrong prescription contacts and given me the wrong trial contacts. Today once again I go into the Bowie location to pick up another trial contacts, which was the wrong prescription again. After I called several times to ask if this was the correct prescription this time, and again Flo the manager said it was. I've been waiting two weeks for my contacts only to be told once again they have ordered the wrong prescription again. So now after paying for my contacts, I'm told that I have to wait another two weeks. I will never ever deal with another vision works. read more

I wish I had seen these ratings before I went. I didn't have a bad customer service experience. Everyone was friendly... BUT they are WAYYY overpriced which isn't the stores fault. I have a strong prescription so a certain type of lens had to be put into the glasses, so the lens would not be thick. They quoted me $205 per lens WITH insurance. I walked right into Warby Parker and those same lenses were $35. Price gouging. So although my customer service experience was positive, I have to knock the rating down to 2 stars because that is robbery. read more

I was greeted pleasantly but that's where the customer service stopped. For a newbie getting glasses, my visit was terrifying.I had no clue how anything worked as far as insurance or paying out of pocket how the costs were applied nor did any representative explain it. They were eager to take my $ for the eye exam. The only thorough portion of the visit was the actual exam w/ the doc she was excellent in explaining what was wrong with me. I wasn't the only unsatisfied customer. One lady came in while I was attempting to pick out frames and made a statement that this was too much for her to do by herself. I had a scheduled appointment. I arrived 10 minutes early. I was asked to sign in which consist of Arrival Time, Name, Time of Appointment and Reason for Visit. Thereafter, my temperature was taken, The gentleman asked reason for visit. I informed the Gentleman that I would like to buy new glasses and that I had lost mine. I told him that I have my prescription with me, he responded ok. I was told to have a seat at a desk. A few minutes later, a young man came over and asked reason for visit, I told him to purchase glasses and that I had lost mine, however I have my the prescription. He gave me a basket and said pick out what glasses you like. I pick out several pair very quickly. Not a big fan of being in stores right now during the pandemic. I sat back down at the desk and waited...I saw the young man and asked him What was next that I'm waiting for after sitting for a while with no one saying anything to me. He says something has to be done that he didn't know how to do. He then pointed to the two people that would be able to help me further, they were helping other customers. So I continue to wait by now I have been in this store just to buy glasses for 45 minutes from time of my appointment. So a young lady ask me to come to her desk. As we are walking to her desk. She ask me reason for visit, I tell her. She ask if I have my prescription with me. I said yes. She tells me to have a seat. She then walks off without saying anything else. I am sitting and waiting. I notice that the young lady is helping a couple. The young man comes over to say my insurance has been verified, I asked him why isn't the young lady helping me and she's helping that couple. He says she's not suppose to be helping them. He then goes over to her and says something. The gentleman that was helping me when I first came in comes over to the desk and says sorry for the wait. I said I have picked out my glasses, he asked for the prescription, I hand it to him and he gets up while looking at the prescription and says this has expired. I can't do anything with this. I pause because he is just looking at me. He never suggest making an appointment with the doctor for a eye exam. He doesn't suggest or recommend anything. I took my prescription back and told him He should have asked me that when he asked my reason for visit when I first came into the store, he was the gentleman that helped me.(I have no names) I left feeling my business wasn't wanted. My overall perception of my time there was unprofessional and unorganized. Heard other negative conversations about waiting while I was waiting. Oh did I mention that I really needed glasses..wanted really bad to get my order in. I have no back up pair. Will not be going back! Total waste of my time and its a pandemic. read more

I had to get an eye test for the MVA to renew my license. I arrived at 9:55 am for a 10 am appointment. The doctor didn't arrive until 10:40 am. Although I only use mild "readers" glasses to read, the doctor sent the online statement to the MVA stating I need to wear glasses full time to see! When I called to have that corrected, he started to put in my wrong date of birth into the system. I got it sorted out, but this could have been disastrous.
