I was in search of an older movie I hadn't been able to find at local thrift stores. I headed here to see if I had better luck and I'm thrilled to report, YES! For me, part of the thrill is in the hunt. I scanned multiple racks without any luck. I was about to give up. This is where I could've used some help, but the employees didn't acknowledge even acknowledge me. It's a small store and I'm pretty sure it was clear I was on a mission. Before asking for help, I took another pass through the store and that's when I found the movie. Eureka! Despite the small size of the store, I was impressed with the selection (DVDs, Blu Ray, CDs, records). Everything is alphabetized, so that's super helpful. I perused and found a few more movies I couldn't live without (ha!). The value is really good...way cheaper than online distributors and no shipping. I bought Blu Ray movies in great condition for $3-4 dollars. I checked out and again found the service so subpar. No one asked if I found everything I wanted or even thanked me for visiting. I'm not asking for the red carpet, but *some* friendliness would've been better than nothing at all. It's only four stars because I found what I wanted (and more!) - that's what is most important.

However, I hadn't really collected cards for a number of years so I didn't have much of a reason to stop in and visit. A little while back I stopped in to check it out, and the owner is super friendly and nice to talk to. I learned he used to live near where I grew up so we spoke for a little while about living in the north. Overall I wasn't in the market to buy or sell any cards, but it was nice to walk in, get to know the owner, and get that special feeling one has when they walk into a baseball card shop. RetroSound Records is, hands down, one of the best record stores in Atlanta. Not because it's the biggest, but because of the staff and because I ALWAYS find something I love here. The owner Ken and his associate Josh are some of the best in the biz. Ken has turned me on to some fantastic records I may have never thought of and he reaches out when something comes in that he knows I'd like. We have similar taste in music (so...excellent taste in music) If he suggests it, I usually buy it. Josh is incredibly knowledgeable and gives the level of service that keeps me coming back. RetroSound Records has a great selection. Pro tip: Always start out with what's on the front counter. Never fails. Then hit the bins on the end of the front counter. Those sections never fail me. They have an EXCELLENT jazz section and right in the middle of the shop are many great records that are half price. THAT section never fails me either. It's my favorite. Ken has a great selection in general and he will spin anything you ask him to (unsealed of course). If you are into vinyl, always buy local! We need to keep shops like this open. Keep an eye out for their Mid Night Madness Events. You won't find Record Store Day here, and that's ok with me!! Mid Night Madness is much more fun!! Get to this shop, and ask for Ken and Josh. You can always find the most interesting things at pawn shops, and the nice old man who runs this…read moreshop has the largest amount of vintage and antique items I've seen anywhere. And we have frequented pawn shops for years. He's basically sitting on a little gold mine. Recently, someone must've sold him a doll collection because suddenly the tiny store has been flooded with vintage and antique barbies from decades ago. There's also a nice motorcycle sitting in the front and plenty of hunting equipment from rifles to bows. There's also a handful of nice guitars, acoustic and electric and old electronics. Old, old. Like ye olde printing press. Okay maybe not that old, but older than me! And the man working the shop is so nice and sweet and he's very honest and gives you a good price on everything. My husband and I have developed quite a soft spot for him. I highly recommend this shop, whether it's to sell, pawn, or buy.
