He has adjusted our prescriptions for contacts as needed through the years and we have never had issues. Our experience with him performing our eye exams is awesome. Dr Lai and his team are thorough and efficient. I've had lasik surgery elsewhere which resulted in near sightedness in one one and farsightedness in the other, monovision. Dr Lai worked with me to correct my vision. He and his staff are patient, and worked with me to meet my need and find a solution to the issues I was having with my eyes. Got on an accident on my way to the appointment so I had to reschedule last minute. They were very understanding and got me in again the next day. The entire staff was very friendly. Dr. Lai was very personable and made me feel comfortable and confident in the care I received. He gave me a tester pair of contacts to try the prescription before ordering by the box. The office is pretty state of the art, with a brand new machine to test vision that is digital (not manual at least). Very bright and clean inside and appreciated the spaciousness. Parking was a breeze, the location is perfect for Southwest residents. Easy to get in and out of the shopping center. I'll continue to use them as long as I'm a Houston resident. read more

I had two very different experiences at Vision Source with Steven Lai. (1) When I went for my own glasses, he was very pleasant and offered a good discount for both my father's and my frames. As a medical student at the time, I was curious about certain ocular things, and Steven was friendly, thorough, and patient with his responses. I really enjoyed the visit. (2) When my girlfriend asked me to recommend her an optometrist, I referred her without hesitance to Steven. However, he made us wait 45 minutes to see him, and when we saw him, he did not offer an apology. Nevertheless, we ordered a set of contacts to be delivered to the store that week, and they promised they would call to let us know when they had come in. We waited 2 weeks before we finally called ourselves, only to learn that the contacts were on backorder. This put us in a distressing situation because my girlfriend had run out and it was past time to change her contacts. Finally, at our return visit to pick up the contacts, Steven did not offer an apology but, rather, made an inappropriate comment towards us. Two VERY contrasting visits; I hope that the latter was an anomaly. read more

So here I am writing a review about vision source. I had a 2:45pm appointment and got here around 2:30pm just in case I needed to fill out any paperwork. ( I did.) Place was very neat with customers coming in and out. Had a few magazines for anyone wanting to read while they waited. I picked one up and started my reading, but within 5 minutes I was called in for my exam. Staff was very nice and knowledgable. My only gripe about eye exams are when they blow that little puff of air into your eyes, but what can I do about that? Nothing. This was my first time here but I wish I had yelp all those years before where I was driving to Chinatown for my exams. I recommend coming here, they have a good selection of frames to choose from and they are a mile away from me. Hooray! read more

Made an appointment for Saturday March 22nd at 11:30 am because a recommendation by a co worker( because of our insurance called Block insurance for City Houston Workers) and Google search. They were super busy, phones and people and walk ins. Dr. Steven Lai, introduced himself and took my information, I was surprised in a good way by this, it shows that he values his customer/ patient. I got the new patient paperwork, took all of three minutes to fill out. The young lady behind the desk took the paperwork and processed it quickly. The wait for an eye exam 10 minutes. the whole exam from start to finish 20 minutes. Dr. Lai was very patient oriented, very personable, professional in his assessment. Sandra helped me with the picking of frames side of it, which took about 30 minutes to do, because I'm picky( I recommend you come 20 minutes prior to your appointment to browse on a slow day, its a beautiful selection of frames). Sandra was super busy bouncing between desk, frames, and patients, but she took the time to help me pick beautiful frames that went well with my face.( tip: look on online for your face shape for glasses as well it works) Exam with insurance and copay: 25 bucks Frames with insurance: 85 bucks= total 105.00! not bad! There is a 3 to 4 day wait for you glasses( got mines by Thursday) Good people, Great Service! read more

I had LASIK surgery about ten years ago at this point but, before that...I was a patient of Dr. Lai's for many years. He always had a very caring "bedside/seatside" manner. Whenever I needed a trial pair of contacts when I forgot to order a new batch, I could always get a pair from him--free of charge. I referred my coworker to him and she has continued to see him, as well. If you need new glasses or contacts, give him a call. read more

I have been to this location 3 times, everyone seems nice and professional. My only complaint is every time I go for a check up. The Doctor keeps changing my prescription. I got contacts and could not see at night. I happened to have some old contacts from the year before and I could see just fine with those. I'm not sure why they keep changing my contact prescription. read more

I needed a vision test immediately, and since I had no appointment, I came in as a walk in, and the wait time was appropriate. The staff was friendly, and Dr. Lai was really attentive to my concerns. They move pretty quickly for a small center, but I do recommend making an appointment beforehand, if possible. read more

so lately i've noticed my night vision is being drastically diminished. i don't wanna be cruisin' down Washington Ave and run over somma ya'll while you're out jus tryin to get your bottle service at some high priced bar.... so i decided to get my eyes checked. i jus wanted something close to the crib, and took my insurance, and i found here. this place is cool, it has many of the basic frames you'd expect, but the doctors here are amazing. since i never had glasses they gave me an exam, found out i probably have worse eyesight than Mr. Magoo... (coped witht he squinting i was doing at night i can see why) and they were pretty good about explaing about what is going on with my eyes. Dr. Steven Lai was good about making me feel more comfy about the idea of having 4 eyes. the whole staff was great and nice and everyone pitched in to help, even after it took about 30 mins to pick frames. well after 2 weeks waiting for 'em and a month of wearing them, i can say i won't find any dead hookers hanging offa my bumper..... thanks guys for making the road safer by giving me my eyesight back.... read more

I've been going to Dr. Steven Lai for about 5 years now and have always been happy with my visits. First started coming to him when I switched from glasses to contact lenses and he was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the benefits and how to care for the contacts. I come once a year for annual check up on my eyes and to order new contacts and the process only takes about 20-30 minutes. Nice staff, clean facility, good selection of frames. I've been going to this location for three years and my customer experience has been above average. I never had to wait longer than ten minutes for my appointments and the ladies in the office are always professional ( friendly and helpful). However, my appointment this year was on 2/10/17 and the doctor was on vacation and the doctor sitting it was awesome. She took her time with me and explain the results of my test down to the science that I could relate and understand. The office ladies where professional in helping me find my frame. The issue I had that really make me upset is the fact no one call to tell me my eye wear was ready with in a week therefore I called them on 2/20/17 to be told that not only were they ready but had been since 2/13/17. I asked the young lady why is it that no one called, text or emailed to inform me of this because I had been waiting to go on vacation but was needing my glasses therefore I missed the road trip with girlfriends because I didn't have my eye wear. The young lady apologized but my feelings were hurt and needless to say I was so upset and disappointed that I waited until the next day to go pick them up because I didn't want to embarrass myself and anyone up there. Come on now that is just unacceptable. read more

Dr. Lai is GREAT! I've been going here for years. In the past I had a severe eye issue with impacted ducts and they took care of me very well. I get my exam here but I buy my glasses online with my plan and the staff are courteous and friendly about giving me my prescription. My husband gets a special "old fashioned" type of contacts here and they work with him very well to get him what he needs for his particular eye issues. We're really happy with Dr. Lai and his staff. read more

Man has this place gone downhill. I've been coming here since I was in middle school 2002. Went off to college and came back in 2013 for an annual checkup and new frames. The staff is unprofessional. They were talking amongst each other in front of me instead of asking if I needed assistance. The pregnant girl (preg back then) asked me all kind of inappropriate questions about my job (if I had one, how much I got paid, if they were hiring etc.) It's obvious she wanted out of that place. Dr. Lai use to be very friendly and personable, but now he is condescending. My last visit was in 2015. I got a pair of glasses with a slightly stronger prescription. I came back tried them on, they seemed a bit off, but like they suggested I decided to wait a couple of days. After a week I went back to inform them I could not see. My peripheral was very blurry. The new lady dr checked me and she did seem concerned and genuinely tried but basically told me she found nothing wrong with the glasses, but just me and that I still had not gotten adjusted to them (eye roll). Fine ok, i'll take her word for it and give it a couple more days. A month later I go back- same issue. This time Dr. Lai sees me and he is condescending and tells me it's me not the glasses that they're right and i'm wrong. Fast forward to 2017 and I go to a new vision source and immediately they notice that the center of my eye on lenses is off. They've asked if I had issue with my glasses and I begin to tell them the problem I've had for the past two year and BOOM they called it! The person that fitted me for my glasses back in 2015 put the center of my eye to low so the entire lense was out of whack. I NEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG! So why post now? Well 2 years ago I went back TWICE and they totally dismissed me, fine ok whatever who cares I just wont go back there. But my new Dr tells me there is in fact something wrong with my lenses. It irks me to think of the way they treated me when I told them my concerned. I'm glad I no longer go there. read more

If you live in Meyerland or Westbury, you could not ask for a more convenient location. Dr. Lai is knowledgeable, patient and nice. The offices are well kept and the staff is very efficient and pleasant, as well - particularly the young man who did the eye testing (who also knew exactly what he was doing). I've been going here for almost 10 years, and spent the 400-600 out of pocket for my families glasses. It was a wash for me because at least one of my children usually didn't need them, so they were permitted to get shades valued at up to 125. This year my daughter received her shades, and my sons went a couple weeks later, and were told they had to see Dr. Lai. Called to see if my sons could go get theirs, and was told they no longer do that, because the insurance doesn't pay anymore. Insurance does not change mid-year. Time to go to Walmart, where the glasses I paid $300+ for, I could have gotten for less than 100. Staff should be aware of benefits, and not need a Doctor to come ant tell them. I think he has more important things to do. read more
