I am familiar with how most ophthalmology workflows are, and found her office to be very streamlined. She even asked if I needed to leave at any time so that she could expedite the process and left ample room for questions. Ophthalmology visits can be difficult and long at times due to the amount of testing and diagnostics that the technicians and doctors have to do. They offered samples for contacts for free, allowed me to take any other samples home, emailed me my RX, and sent all my information to my primary care physician and any other providers that I needed to see. I highly recommend Dr. Hayashi's practice to anyone who is seeking comprehensive eye care. I do believe they do refractions and you can pick out glasses and contacts. However, I was here for a medical necessary eye health exam so I didn't utilize that. The space is HUGE and there are many rooms. I believe they also speak Japanese, and seem to cater to a lot of Japanese patients. Regardless, anyone who can come here, should.

Summary: This place is terrible, don't go. See pictures of my current vs what they tried to give me…read more(almost the same script) I have been coming here since 2021, and I have consistently come every year since. I want to start by saying this review is not for Dr. Louis Sarantakos but for the office staff and my experience. Dr. Louis Sarantakos has always been great, and I would recommend him if he wasn't working here. On January 8th, I came in for my annual review. I got my appointment time mixed up, and they were able to accommodate me by allowing me to see Dr. Jean Louis. While Jean was nice, he didn't listen very well. I explained my vision was still blurry, and I didn't think the prescription he recorded was correct, but I got met with, "Well, that's the best you're going to get." I have been wearing glasses for 25/27 years of my life, and I am aware that I won't have 20/20 vision, but I also know when a prescription is off. I then went on to purchase a new pair of frames/lenses. Due to my insurance, I ended up paying $756 out of pocket, and let me explain later how I was not told an honest price. On January 16th, I came in to pick up my glasses, which were in rough shape. The prescription was wrong, and one of the women told me just to wear it for a week or two, even though I explained it was blurry. On top of that, I ordered a high index of 1.74, and the glasses had a lens bludging out through the side. I explained this was unacceptable, especially after paying $569 for lenses before my $170 discount. Marc, who is truly rude, then finds 101 excuses as to why he cut them the way he did. He asked to see the glasses I was currently wearing, and to his surprise, they were the same size, so his excuses quickly started to die down. I said since I won't accept these glasses, I would like my eyes rechecked, and then we can send them out again. On January 17th, I went to see Dr. Louis Sarantakos for my follow-up appointment to have my eyes rechecked. It was no surprise that he said the prescription I was provided was not the same one he was getting. On January 24th, I was told my glasses were ready at 3:10 PM. I arrived at the location at 5:15 PM, and I think you can see where this is going; they were not ready. Trying to look on the bright side, I started looking at another pair of frames I was considering buying. In that process, I asked the young man helping me how much lenses would cost me out of pocket for all the things I wanted on them, and he quoted me $400 out of pocket and no use of insurance, so how is it that initially I was charged $569 before my insurance? This is when I knew this business was not running ethically anymore. Then, here comes Marc, who brings over my glasses with the glass still bludging out and says, "That's the best you're going to get." Marc was even great enough to get a ruler to build his case as to why, but again, it was just empty excuses. I asked what my options were because I refused to take these glasses, and they said to get another frame to me, I just need to pay an additional $62 for the new frames on top of the $756 already paid due to the fact they already filed the insurance claim (this was a lie as I called the insurance and they only filed a claim on the exam and nothing else). To tie this all together, I said I wanted a refund, and they said no, you either take the glasses or get a new frame. I stated I would call the credit card and dispute this charge, and the young woman said, "Okay, do it." I hope you have learned my personality by now. I immediately called my credit card and insurance companies to report what was happening. I also emailed USO to let them know that since this all happened, I was reporting it. Within five minutes of that email, Marc called me. He said, "I am going to refund you and email you a copy of your medical records, and I think it's best you find somewhere else to go." What I find crazier is that he thought I would never go back, especially as long as he was there. I would recommend no one go. Story ended... If you think about going, don't.

They contacted my insurance for me and let me know exactly what I'd need to pay upfront. I know a lot of reviews mention upselling, and that wasn't my experience. I recently had a prescription made at Eyes on Second and I was completely DISAPPOINTED in their…read moreservice. The first optometrist didn't really listen to me, but I tried her prescription anyhow. After one week I wrote them that I needed a Recheck as my SPH prescription was overplussed: past 20 feet to infinity I was seeing blurry; my old eye glasses with an SPH of 0.50 less in each eye was definetly better for distances farther than 20 feet. I went to the Recheck with another optometrist and told her again the problem I was having. At the end of the recheck consultation I asked what was my revised prescription going to be and she refused to tell me (!!!). Optometrist claimed that she would tell me the prescription after the lenses would be fabricated (???). It took 3 back and forth emails afterwards and 5 hours to get the prescription thru email at the end of the day. By law an optometrist has to give the prescription to a patient immediately after the consultation and before the lenses are fabricated. When I got the prescription thru email, it was again with the same over-plussed SPH for both eyes that I had already tried for the previous 2 weeks! I wrote them to fabricate the free remake of the lenses with a reduction of 0.25 for each eye., something in between my old glasses and their failed prescription that I had tried already for 14 days. They refused and told me that they would refund my money for the lenses and the frames and would contact my Insurance to clear the used benefits. I wish the problems would end there, but when I went back to return the case (they already had the frames in their possession) and process my refund ( I had paid by tapping the phone and my apple card) their machine was not able to process the refund and I had to wait in the store for 52 minutes (!!!) as they kept trying. At the end they promised me that they would try to do it "manually" and after two days they managed to process the refund. By the way , I found their optician rather crass and primitive in his demeanor. Plus I have never heard an optician say that a difference of 1 mm would make no difference for my vision behaviour in relation to the lower reading zone or that a difference of 4 degrees (!) in the AXI would make no difference. If you care about your eyes and your time, plus your self respect ,avoid Eyes on Second.

If you need glasses and can get to this part of Manhattan, the only place to be a patient and a client is Kips Bay Optical. From the truly evaluative, real time spent, thorough, thoughtful, and all questions answered you leave with no stress or agita (Italian for heartburn and anxiety) appointments with Dr. Soto, to the honest recommendations regarding vision insurance (because not everyone's policy includes that (ahem, Anthem)), to the wide ranging in styles and price choice of frames, it is truly a pleasure to be a patient at Kips Bay Optical. Let it be said that eyeglasses, like jewelry, is an emotional purchase. When my prescription changed and I needed to get new near-sighted lenses, Paul and Stephany were as patient and honest with me as the best bespoke personal shoppers as I tried on easily 20 pair. I trust them in the same ways I trust Drs. Soto and Pekarsky. My trust began in 2008 and has only increased over time.
