Just got back from an appt with Dr. Amin- she was efficient, kind, and professional. Everyone I interacted with was clear and direct, and there was only a 5 minute wait. They contacted my insurance for me and let me know exactly what I'd need to pay upfront. I know a lot of reviews mention upselling, and that wasn't my experience. I was looking for an exam only, and nobody challenged me on that or tried to get me to buy frames or lenses. I was in and out in under 20 minutes. read more

Had a great experience with Dr. Cawog, she's very thorough and a great doctor, BUT it's been 3 weeks since my appointment, and 3 weeks after I was promised my eyeglasses in 10 days. No one updates me or calls to let me know what is going on or when I'll actually receive my eyeglasses. For an office that sells luxury eyeware, you'd expect the luxury customer service experience. Absolutely ridiculous experience - do not go there! I booked an eye exam at Eyes on Second, and my appointment was canceled the first time because I "didn't pay the $50 deposit"--even though no one ever told me that was required when I booked over the phone. I showed up, and they just turned me away. No apology, just told to reschedule. So I did. Came back the next day... 12 minutes late. They told me I missed the 10-minute grace period and refused to see me. I explained that my previous appointment was canceled due to their communication error, and this was my second attempt. But the staff made zero effort to accommodate me or even acknowledge the situation. Two minutes late. Two appointments canceled. Zero compassion. To their credit, they refunded the deposit--I was ready to dispute it. But when I called afterward to leave feedback, the staff doubled down and said this was "their process" and basically told me I was wrong. If you're looking for an eye clinic that's robotic, inflexible, and doesn't care about customer experience, this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd go literally anywhere else. read more

A great eye doctor located in the heart of East Village -- I stopped by for an annual exam and contact lens fitting and was happy with my care here. Dr. Cawog and the staff patiently walked me through what was covered by my insurance and finding the best fit for me. I had the opportunity to try on different brands of contacts to see which felt best on my eye, as well as discussed the possibility of getting LASIK in the future. They have a great selection of stylish frames and were really quick to ship me (~2-3 days max) my contact order. I came here for my annual checkup, and from the emails I first got from them, I had an uneasy feeling especially because it felt like They were up selling (I know.. via email sounds weird), anyway I got here for my appointment and from the get-go, my intuition was right, the receptionist, the Dr and the staff who showed me the glasses, all tried to bring up some sort of dollar amount I would have to shell out to either get, contact lens prescription sent to my email or $35 for something else (I forget what it was) But I exhausted leaving this eye clinic. I will not be going back for the following reasons: -they over schedule the doctors on the weekend so my appointment took longer than it should have as they were with other patients -they really push eye drops regardless if you say you aren't having any issues with dry eyes. It's apparent in their marketing emails as well -when I picked up my glasses there wasn't anyone there who could adjust the frames to make them tighter. If someone was only available during a certain time to do it they should have communicated that in advance. They were not apologetic about it and told me I could just walk into any optometrist to have them do it....so I will be taking my business to another provider read more

This is a great optician. I just walked in, got help to find a perfect set of glasses ,and they followed up and got my prescription from a competitor without me having to ask. Yes, by God. CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! It still exists. I found that the big chain optician had glasses just like everyone else's glasses and I wanted mine to have design and style. Eyes on Second has the designers you want plus interesting brands I've not heard of. I don't recognize anything in these one star reviews. The woman who wanted a screw tightened who was told to wait? Come on! It is a business and has a right to not prioritize free service against paying service. And to John A., if he can see an eye doctor for $30 bucks, I want the name of that doctor. Just tried to make an appointment for a contact lens exam (already have valid glasses prescription from 5 months ago) and was told that it would be $230* out of pocket. I pushed several times to clarify and was told that I had not misunderstood. Congratulations for being the most absurdly priced optometrist in this city! I went there on 4-8-24, I was told my glasses would be ready quick, I'm calling to get an update and no one could give me an update, the first person told me she didn't see that I bought in my own frame, then I called back the following week and someone said they would called the lab and called me back, she didn't..I called back on Sunday, now someone else tell me that the lab don't work on weekend...I think it's not a priority because I brought in my own frame and I didn't take the extra stuff they want to push on me...the last time I got glasses that I couldn't used because I'm near sited and the frame brooke in a week...before I has my appointment they text me like 25 times and send emails...now I can't get one call back...they only about money...the people that answer the phones are rude...no customer service...I would never go back to them... read more

Was traveling from out town. My glasses were completely crushed in the overhead bin during my flight. I called up a few opticians near where I was staying, and found the staff at Eyes on Second to be the most helpful and knowledgeable. They stayed open late to squeeze me in and inspected my glasses which were unfortunately busted. But they were able to get me new glasses in just a couple of days. It saved my trip. Awful, awful service. My daughter had a screw missing in her glasses. We went to this place to get it fixed. They gave us the runaround, made us wait while they helped others and were generally rude. I understand that this service is offered as a courtesy but most optimetrist shops don't give you attitude and treat you poorly in the process. Often in business the graciousness you offer people will be rewarded with future business regardless if the individual isn't paying for the service at the time. I really try not to write negative reviews. Being a small business is extremely difficult. Add the fact that covid exists and any business that's even open at this point should be applauded. That said, I didn't love my experiences at Eyes on Second. I've been here a couple times since 2016. The pro was that they took my insurance while many providers did not, but the con was the aggressive sales people. The first time I went for an eye exam in 2016 (awhile ago, I know) I purchased a pair of glasses and contacts. I really didn't want a 6 month supply of contact lenses, but I was pushed into it and assured I could always return it. While that was true, the nature of how I was persuaded into it by not even a salesperson, but a doctor was lame. Still, I could have protested more so let's say that one was on me. More recently though, I came to Eyes on Second again for an update on my prescription. The exam was great, the doctor was nice - no complaints. However, once I was led onto the store floor it was like she released me into the lions dens. Let me clarify, I've worked in sales for over 6 years - 4 of them as a sales manager. I can be pretty damn aggressive and I've taught sales reps to be the same, but my lord - these eyes on second salespeople do not mess around. I kept giving reasons why I didn't want to buy glasses and I kept receiving aggressive reasons why I should anyway - it was awkward and over the top and the salesperson really wasn't "reading the room." Those types of experiences burn bridges and leave a bad taste in one's mouth. Overall, I really, really, really don't like the hard sale at a somewhat vulnerable place like the eye doctor and I get that businesses need to make money especially during these crazy times, but based on my experiences I wouldn't recommend eyes on second especially if you don't want to encounter a pushy sale. For a quarter of the price and zero pressure I shop at warby parker now. read more

I never review anything. Even when I had bad experiences, but I felt I had to leave a review here since they wasted both my time and money for their convenience. Made an appointment almost a month in advance. Paid for an Uber all the way from the UWS and was going to be 15 mins late due to getting stuck in traffic caused by a protest. Called them a few mins before and they said they had a 12 minute grace period. My Uber driver said he'd get me there so we hit the gas and we were going to make it there in time, only for them to call me back 8 minutes before the grace period ended to cancel on me because the doctor had been double booked. Never again. + they try to push their merchandise at the store on you and if you refuse you don't matter to them. read more

I've been struggling with seeing up close and came in for reading glasses. Dr Shiyan examined me and suggested progressive lenses and even helped me pick a pair out. She has such a great eye for what's in, I would never have picked the pair she suggested but am in love with them! I have received so many compliments on my new Salt frames and the best part is I don't have to move my phone or papers back and forth to focus in on reading them or carry around multiple pairs of glasses! read more

Had an incredible experience here! Eye exam from Dr. Cowag is super speedy and efficient, she explained every step of the process and we just had a great conversation! Afterwards I went to get new glasses, and both Brendan & Brittany were this incredible dynamic duo that helped me shop through styles, and were so patient with me. I came in knowing more or less what I wanted, but they definitely helped broaden my style horizons and my current glasses are pretty influenced by what they suggested! I don't really get the vibe of what the other reviews suggest, maybe I was isolated by knowing what I wanted, but the glasses here are only expensive if you buy the expensive glasses. I was suggested glasses based on style, not by price, I'm sure if I was price sensitive I could have brought that up and they would have adjusted their suggestions. read more

Dr.Shneur was excellent, professional and thorough. Probably the best eye exam I've had. I wish the store had more frames to choose from though, the "cheap" ones are hideous and the nice ones are upwards of $500, and I have insurance! I like the convenience usually of ordering new glasses through the doctor's store but I couldn't justify it this time with the selection they had. Luckily, they didn't pressure me and happily gave me a copy of my prescription to look elsewhere. If Eyes on Second had a more reasonable frames selection I would have been more than willing to purchase new frames there. Also, the new eye scan instead of getting your eyes dilated is so worth the copay. If your insurance will cover it - go for it. read more

I was told it would take a week to get my glasses and then A MONTH LATER when I still hadn't heard from them they told me the manufacturer didn't get my order so it would take another week. I called back a week later, they said the manufacturer didn't get the order and they would need to do it a second time. I called back after another week passed and the same issue. I was looking for a local eye exam and fount this on a website. I booked an appointment and went I waited 5 min in the front area had a 10-20 min exam and the Doctor told me I needed some glasses to fix my issues, recommended me eye drops and told me to sit in reception area for payment on exam n lenses. I thought my insurance covered everything but they told me I need to pay in total 197$ 10$ for exam then 160$ for lenses and Then 23$ for the recommended eye drops then needed to purchase frames which their lowest frames was 300 plus Dollars in total i was advised to spend 197$ and to bring my own frames. i felt forced to pay so i paid and left immediately after i went for a second opinion and fount a place where it was only 80$ for exam and lenses and they gave me free eye drops . and was advised to get a refund from eyes on second. so i called a few times and was told they would get back to me about this on Monday July 1st i did not get no calls so i reached out the next day and they told me to speak to owner via email and she was not in after i was told on Monday it would get resolved. i don't want no store credit. i just want the refund for the lenses the exam and eye drops ill pay for. have any issues please contact me directly. read more

Overall a good experience. I was able to make an evening appoint on a weekday which is very convenient, especially considering my work hours/commute. Scheduling the appointment was easy, just as was using my vsp insurance for the appointment. I was in and out of the dr's office in less than ten minutes with my new prescription, and selected new glasses. Most frame options there are really quite expensive, even with the insurance discount; I had at least gone in expecting that considering manhattan prices and the office location. To corroborate other reviewers, I did receive a lot of reminder messages, and confirmed my appointment at least three times with the staff. It was a bit annoying, but I much prefer over communication In general, friendly staff with a quick and easy visit. Just note, I think there are only optometrists at the office, so if you have specific eye health needs, make sure you ask when making your appointment, or, go elsewhere for an ophthalmologist. read more

in about 2009, I was sitting in my favorite bar and was wondering about a new eye doctor. I spied Eyes on Second (its first location) and thought, why not get my eyes dilated then have the ability to rest my poor pupils while cave drinking? That is when my roommates and I met Dr. Shiyan. We would line up our yearly appointments for a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon and run across the street when the time came for our exams. This annual routine played out for a few more years until I moved in with my FH. We still came to EoS and would drink after our appointments, but it was less of a party since there wasn't like 5 of us. Fast forward to their new space and the new docs. I saw Dr. Amin the last 2 appointments I have scheduled. She is personable and efficient. My glasses have been giving me grief since the mandatory face masks and learning accounting for grad school on excel via zoom. I really wanted to see if my eyes have changed enough to warrant new glasses so I took a peek at their schedule. I was able to make an appointment for the following week. My exam was completed in 30 minutes (including the wait time for dilation drops to kick in). My prescription was emailed to me so I could decide on glasses at a later date, pending Covid. The space was clean and tidy, with no wait to see the doctor. Others stopped in to pick up their glasses but made sure to keep distance from me and the staff. read more

Pretty poor experience. I don't write negative reviews often and want to support small businesses but the service at Eyes on Second is poor particularly staff-to-staff communication and customer experience. I ordered a pair of glasses on a Saturday and paid for a rush delivery. The glasses were due back on Tuesday - no call... So, I called on Tuesday early evening and the receptionist was unable to get me a status on my glasses. She told me to expect a call within the hour with an update... no call. Finally, I got a call Wednesday evening telling me that they were unable meet the rush request and left no indication of when I should expect my glasses. I called back on Thursday, no note in my file on when the glasses would be ready... So I was told the standard..."it'll take 7-10 business days". I'm a pretty upbeat and friendly person, but man... I didn't speak to one person with an ounce of customer experience training. In general this wouldn't be a big deal. But, I spent $900 on my glasses and expect the staff to communicate better with customers. Would not recommend. read more

Came in to pick a pair of glasses out for my daughter. She's 12 and super picky! The staff was so patient and kind with her. They helped her pick 1 pair of glasses and another pair of sunglasses, and to top it off, they had them both ready for her in an hour! I could not be more impressed! Had a very positive experience. Dr. Cowag communicated really clearly about how my vision was changing, different options for contact lenses that were better than my existing brand at a similar price point, etc. The office was also extremely upfront about pricing. I've had previous experiences at other eye doctors where I'm surprised by a $300 bill not covered by insurance that is never mentioned in the office. The staff gave me prices for the exams as well as any additional things (ie retinal imaging) before performing them. They also provided my prescriptions via email before I even left the office, which has been extremely rare in my experience with NYC opticians (who often try to hold the prescription so you need to get glasses/contacts from them). They did have very overpriced contacts, which is not shocking. They laid out the pricing/available rebates for different options, which I appreciated. Definitely recommend getting contacts elsewhere, as is the case at most opticians. I did not have the experience that other reviewers had where they were pushing on getting glasses; I mentioned I wasn't looking to get new glasses at the moment and they were fine with it. read more

I came into Eyes on Second since they're close by, and they were able to quickly fit me in (despite their back to back bookings) and identify an eye scratch. I was meaning to write this review for quite sometime. The first time I was seen the Dr. gave me the wrong prescription and I was unable to see anything despite wearing glasses for years. Their recommendation wait a few days your eyes will adjust. I guess this was suppose to happen magically guess what it never did. Go back and get another eye exam not to my surprise the prescription was wrong. Get a new prescription, new glasses still cant see. I go back they double check then the 2nd optometrist says oh the frames might be too big. Really because they are the same exact size of the previous frame. How insulting and incompetent. I finally go to an eye specialist at Mount Sinai hospital and guess what the prescription AXIS was wrong as well as the prescription. Now here I go for the fourth visit to get the glasses corrected not one of these so called Dr's could figure it out accept selling me computer glasses which by the way are still the wrong prescription. After going there 6-7 times my glasses finally were better the computer glasses forget it. I couldn't do it anymore and just gave up. No compensation, no apology just rescheduled appointments to fix their mistake. There are much better places read more

I've been going to Eyes on Second for two years now and am writing a review now because of the recent superior customer service and care I experienced from them. I originally chose Eyes on Second because of its proximity to my home, good reviews on Yelp, and it accepted my health insurance. I don't remember which doctor I had as I've had two different ones, but both were great. In Feb 2020, I had an annual check-up in and was due for a new set of glasses, but the available frames at the office were not my style/out of my price range. They let me know they could go ahead and order my new lens and hold onto them until I find a frame I like that they could fit the lens in. Fast forward, I relocated due to COVID-19 and had to figure out where I could find frames to send to Eyes on Second and then have them sent to my new address. Eyes of Second was extremely communicative and helpful throughout the process, which included helping me find an office that carries the brand I wanted, letting me know when they received the frames, and sending me a tracking # for the package once it got sent out. This, on top of their patience and help when I called multiple times to figure things out, really meant a lot to me as I am currently without a pair of glasses and many places aren't open at this time. Fuggggggg meeeeeee the price made my uterus fall out of my body but I got to admit the have better glasses than most spots. I won't shop at that cheap material Warby Parker and yes Lens Crafters owns alllll the brands so they have a huge selection, but the selection is basic. So I pay for quality and style. The bigggggg issue is the wait. For the price they charge you I had to wait a week and then I showed up the day they told me that my glasses would be done but they didn't know who I was or where my glasses were at. Then while I'm waiting someone else calls in and they lost that person info too, and have a look around until they finally told that person their glasses were going to be late. So I left after they said my glasses would be in tomorrow but then I called a day later to let them know that I was coming in to pick up my glasses, they said they still didn't have them. I was leaving for a trip so I really needed my new glasses so I could see things. I popped by and They looked at me like I was an ass hole for wanting something I paid for. The way they spoke to each other about the caller, who was apparently having the same issue was super snobby. Something like ...geez why are they bugging or why are they stressing. We told them they weren't here yet so why are they still calling? I could tell they were annoyed by that person so I'm sure they spoke bad about me when I called later to check in and when I left.
