This office is in walking distance from my house to my various doctors I have to see. They connect with my PCP & diabetic dr; sending them the test results. I had the privilege to be seen by Dr. Rice. He and his staff were wonderful. Each person I dealt with was excellent. Amy, Ian, KD and one other front desk girl I dealt with were just FANTASTIC. They were all attentive and caring. Then the atmosphere was modern and edgy. The office and machine they used are on the cutting edge of time. Buyer beware... I noticed my prescription sunglasses had two different colored lenses. The Vision clinic on South national would not warranty them because I chose not to pay for all the extra stuff they wanted to put on the lenses. That should have nothing to do with them putting two different colored lenses on the sunglasses . I'm happy to take my business elsewhere. read more

I initially scheduled my appt and my daughters appt back to back at vision clinic Springfield. I asked repeatedly about bringing my 3 year old and shared her background, what she went through as a micropreemie, and making sure they would be qualified to work with her and understood what needed to be done. I was told, yes ma'am, yep! Yes, we can do that! Absolutely. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my doctor that I see for myself as an adult but I think it's ridiculous that the staff didn't know how to work with my child. I literally had to take charge of the appt because they asked my daughter what letter is this? SHE JUST TURNED 3. Sweetie, can you tell me what this line is?? Nope, I literally took control and said can you show them where the birds are, the cake, etc. they tried taking pictures of her eyes and couldn't even do that. This appt didn't look remotely close to previous appts I have been at. I suggested multiple times, we can move forward with dilating her eyes but they weren't comfortable making her more upset. On top of that, we were referred to another doctor within the same office but didn't give the option to schedule. I had to call back and schedule. Why was I told that they could take care of the appt and walked out feeling so frustrated and upset. I still had to pay for her visit and we couldn't even get answers. Now to move forward with another Dr in the office and it's a "medical" visit and I have to pay more again when I should have gone to her in the first place. I'll come back as a patient because i love the doctor that I see but I have such a bad taste about how these tests went and how I took charge of the appt because they didn't know how to talk to my child to get the answers they need. They should have pointed us in the other direction instead of wasting our time. read more

I went here for my annual vision exam and a new pair of contacts. It was as obvious from the start of the appointment that I was going ti be uncharged and pressured. I stated from the beginning that I was previously in Acuvue Oasis lenses. I was pleased with that contacts, and stated that I'd warn them the last 10 years and wanted to keep them. After a quick test, determining my eyes got worse, I was quickly given a quote for a daily wear lens. I reminded the nurse and doctor that I wore Acuvue Oasis, but I was told the daily wears were better and would be cheaper on the long run when factoring contact lens solution and upkeep (about $75 a year). At the very end of my appointment, I was given a quote and told that I would be expected to pay almost $300 for contacts AFTER insurance (which covered $130), a "clinic discount," and "rebate" (which would require I send in additional paperwork later for reimbursement. Meaning, I would have had to pay $350 in clinic that day for the lens'. My last contact lens purchase was $50 after insurance. Something was suspicious. I came back the next week to be fitted for the contacts I wanted originally, Acuvue Oasis. I was told that I shouldn't be wearing them for a month because they're a two week wear. I was they wouldn't be able to advise my six month purchase of the lens' because this would imply I'm wearing them for thirty days not two weeks. After contacting two other clinics, it was confirmed that while the lens ARE intended for two weeks of wear, many doctors will give patience the lens for a 30 day wear if they aren't being worn daily. I wear glasses v. contacts at about a 50/50 basis. I advocated for the preferred contact, and only after 10 minutes of back and forth and deciding to leave the clinic and go elsewhere was I "allowed" to proceed to the check out counter for the purchase of the contact. At the counter, I then had to advocate again for myself because the front desk tried to force me into buying an year-long supply. I could not recommend this place, less. The folks were nice enough but the entire model do upselling medical services is disgusting. It's obvious that the goal of this clinic is money not care. They even have a sign poster as a scare tactic to encourage clients from taking their prescription and buying cheaper glasses online. I've done this for five years and never had a problem with the glasses. They're $300 cheaper, and they don't require this crazy upselling and pushy back-and-forth. I won't be going back. read more

Dr. Sandy and staff are very nice. I had to be fitted with contacts but no one told me that Dr. Sandy is only in the S. National office a couple of days per week and, of course, they did not have the trial contacts I needed. I waited for a call from the office to tell me they had received the trial contacts, but, no call came. I called the office to find out if they had come in yet and then had to make another appointment to try them on and then I found out I had to drive to Ozark if I wanted them this week. Then I decide to try a stronger strength like they had said I could so I called the office again and asked if I could pick up the stronger strength and Josh put me on hold and then told me I could pick them up. I left on my lunch break to pick them up and, no one can find them. Just as I pull back into work I get a call that said they are in Ozark because that was where I had been seen last. I will just get my prescription and next year I will go elsewhere. I feel like a number here. Communication, communication, communication. read more

Supposedly an Ashley called and left me a voicemail but no one ever called me or left a voicemail. I see Dr. Sandy Rice. I love her. She is honest and knows her stuff. I would recommend the clinic to anyone. Actually, they all know their stuff and very personable and caring. I went for my annual eye exam 12/5/22. My entire family has gone to vision clinic for years with no issues until now. Granted they are more expensive but the customer service (in the past) has been worth it. This time however, 60 days have passed and as I understand that my contacts are on extreme back order. I have been calling every week for 8 weeks trying to get them to order a different brand or give me my money back. I paid over $600 on my initial visit. After 2 months I called my insurance company that paid out and they called the office and I received a refund and started over at a different place. Huge waste of time! read more

Went in for a contacts lens and eye glass exam. The lady at the front desk that pointed me in the right direction greeted with a smile and was pleasant, the lady who checked me in was professional and pleasant and those are the only positives I have to say about this place. I went in to get a specific brand of contacts, they didn't have them in stock but said they could order them, I asked for my prescription so I could order it else where and they gave me my prescription without the information needed for me to order my contacts online. I have called 5 times now and was only able to speak to someone the 2nd time I called, She advised me that they can't order them and I would have to go in and pay full price and do the exam over again if I want to order the contacts I originally wanted. I asked to speak with the person who did my exam and they said they don't have time, asked to speak with a manager and was sent to a voice mail. Left 3 messages over the last week and no call back. That holds true for contacts as well, BUT if you need some in a pinch, there's a good chance Vision Clinic will have them in stock, whereas their competitors often have to order them, which obviously means more waiting. I have gone to this clinic since high school. Up until now I was satisfied with the service. On my last exam a young female doctor ran through the exam and I did not think she was very careful with the exam. The new prescription for glasses resulted in a marked decrease in my close vision. Previously I could take off my glasses and see perfectly at close distances. Now when I remove my glasses everything is blurry. She may have permanently hurt my vision. I am very unhappy with the results of my new glasses. read more

When I bought my eyeglasses at Vision Clinic on S. Natonal ($452) I was told the antireflective coatings would be durable, and I would have no problems! Less than a year later, the coatings started to fail. Vision Clinic replaced the lenses under warranty. So far, so good. I took extra special good care of the replacement lenses, using only Vision Clinic approved cleaning supplies, and making certain sure the lenses never exposed to rough surfaces. So I was very disappointed when the coatings on the second set of lenses started to fail after only 2 or 3 months. This time, I was told the "basic" coatings I paid for were not that great, and since I had not paid for the better coatings, there was nothing they could do except sell me replacements for $400, something dollars. 1. Considering the relatively low cost of the materials and labor, Vision Clinic made a HUGE amount of profit when they sold me the glasses. And they made it pretty clear they are going to keep every penny of those profits, whether the customer is taken care of, or not. 2. If there are better coatings, why sell anything else? 3. Does anybody think it is normal or realistic for the lifespan of a pair of eyeglasses costing $450 to be a year, or less? Seriously? I am convinced the coatings sold by Vision Clinic are definitely NOT worth paying for - and - once they have your money, these folks don't really care if you are satisfied or not. read more

I visited two different eye doctors (both locations). Both times I was blown off, told my eyesight was not that bad and they acted like I'm making it up. I cannot read anything. They sold me $500 glasses (after insurance paid their part) and I STILL cannot read a simple restaurant menu. Go see a qualified eye doctor. Do not visit this place whose goal is to make money but not provide proper services. They did not even measure my focal point. They just "eyeballed it." Sheesh! read more

This review has been updated below the original. I can't recommend this place. If you have any problems, they won't work with you. When we ordered our 3 sets of glasses, we weren't notified of the numerous additional charges. Yes, I understood that there are fees for making lenses but not that many. When I reviewed the itemized list of the charges, there were some I would have declined. These were never mentioned during the ordering process. I've been trying to get a call back from a manager for over week. I called again on day 8 and was told that I would have a call "in a few minutes". That call never came. I called a third time, day 9, to find out that the manager has left and they don't know when the manager will return. At this point I'm just trying to get my money back so I can find a new place for glasses and future exams/glasses. UPDATE: A day after posting this, I had a call from the manager. She was apologetic about my experience and wanted to make it right. She decided to fully refund my sunglasses if I would give them another and take down this review. I gave them a chance, went back for remade glasses and they were still wrong. The person helping me constantly interrupted me when I tried to explain my concerns and defended everything they did and refused to hear my concerns. I asked to speak with the manager and request a call back. The call didn't come. I finally heard back a day after expected only to be told that I will finally get a refund for the glasses but I still had to pay for "services". Those services had me making multiple trips back for glasses that are unusable. Again, I cannot recommend this place. read more

Took 2 hours to get my annual eye appointment done. Typical over booked Dr appointments and every stage of the process was extremely slow. Can't go there anymore. Spent over $900 on a pair of glasses which took six weeks to get. Then 60 days later the lens coating goes bad. New lenses arrive and I go in to get them changed. They do adjustments but forgot to change the lenses. Wow. You can't make this up. read more

I am saying major FRAUD. BEWARE!!!!! This place told me I needed glass and I got them and I never had to have them before. I went to get a lasik consultation because the glasses and contacts were making my eyes worst. I found out I have 20/10 vision which is the best vision you can ever have. My girlfriend and I both recently visited The Vision Clinic and both had very good experiences. The staff are helpful and efficient. The selection of frames is quite extensive. While the support staff offer a level of service which is good, they fall short of providing memorable service. They do their job and do it quickly. The differentiator for us with this particular vision center was the optometrist we saw. Dr. Brad Lewis is one of several opthometrists available. Basically, he's the man. Smart, personable, and takes the time to talk through the process and what things mean at a level anyone can understand. I can't comment about the other Dr.'s in the center, but we can both rave about our experiences with him... top notch service. read more

Very disappointed with the eye clinic here. I've worn glasses and contacts for over 2 decades with no problems. I have horrible vision so I have to wear one or the other but normally see the doctor yearly and am good till the following year. I started at Vision Clinic on National around 3 months ago and Dr. Herndon has still been unable to get my prescription correct. I've been in 6 times at this point. I understand he may not have complete control over this but my concerns are larger. I get no information on what contacts he's trying, whether he's changing the prescription stronger or weaker, or why this continues. He sees me for 5 minutes using the machines then a staff member returns and hands me contacts to try. That's it no information no follow up just call me if they don't work. I'd like more information on if they're daily contacts, monthly, hard or soft, why these may work over others, astigmatism contacts, any information would be appreciated but this never occurs. Recently I went in with my new glasses and was seen by the eye glass clinic before the appointment with him. The lady I saw there was great. She talked with me about my concerns, adjusted my glasses so they fit better, and was very helpful. After meeting with her I was supposed to see Dr. Herndon to fix the prescription but waited 30 minutes after my appointment time and the receptionist said he hadn't returned from lunch yet. I decided not to wait on his extended lunch and rescheduled. So still can't see. If I hadn't already used my insurance for the year here I would never return. They have no idea what they are doing and Dr. Herndon has no respect for his patients. Very disappointing. read more

Not very happy with their costs! Charge $100 for a box of contacts that are almost half that price anywhere else. I would not suggest purchasing contacts from them. Get your prescription and have it filled somewhere else. When I told staff my disappointment and showed them the cost online at other facilities, the only answer was "do they file your insurance?" My complaint is that for kids glasses there is no warnity to help with replacement of glasses or lenses unless it's a manufacturer default this is kids we are talking about things happen glasses get broke but all you will get is unfortunately we cant help you. For a tiny little stye which I couldn't even see & didn't know I had, I was sent to a specialist who was to give further advice on the 'problem'. Almost $200 later the specialist said 'I am sort of surprised it was even noticed as it is so tiny' - in the past I didn't mind this place but I will find a better place from now on as the specialist wasn't covered by insurance and I've experienced more personal eye care in other offices. read more

I have always had positive experiences on the medical side of this practice (5 stars). However, the first time I tried to purchase glasses here, it was a disaster (0 stars). I have a simple prescription, and they were actually unable to figure out why the single-vision lenses they ordered and then re-ordered for me caused distortion both times. The pre-appointment handling was great. The doctor got hung up on a patient before me, but that was out of his control. Once I was seen, he was quick and to the point. He gave me specific recommendations and was really kind. My only complaint was the cleanliness of the office. I am sure it was an off day, but mirrors in the exam room, the viewfinder on one of the eye tests (I forget which one.), and all the glasses were incredibly dirty. Maybe I am picky because I had the job when I was in high school long ago as an intern, cleaning each pair by hand. But, I couldn't see through the fake lenses. My eyes would only focus on the smudginess. I asked my sales rep to clean one, and it just smudged it around more. In addition, the selection is pretty slim. I found a decent pair, but I only found one. They gave me a box for a variety of choices, which would have been nice to utilize but couldn't find another pair that worked for me...and I look at both men and women glasses since I have a big head! I think my lack of selection and asking to have the pair cleaned threw my sales lady for a loop. She didn't really offer me anything, and I had to prod to get the options that I wanted. I really hope she wasn't making an assumption that I wouldn't upgrade based on my looks. I am an executive, but I cover my tattoos while I am at work. I am waiting for my order, but look forward to my new glasses for the year. read more

As a Vision Clinic patient for over five years I should make others aware that this organization has trouble quoting a price for eyeglasses and subsequently honoring that price. In my case they charged me $279.00 for a pair of glasses which have never fit me correctly even though I have had them adjusted on two occasions. After paying for my glasses which I assumed was a final sale I received an additional bill of $112.80 five months later for the same glasses. The reason I was given is that my Superior Insurance benefit only covered a portion of the eyeglasses. Now a former patient as of today I would advise new and existing patients to beware of this organization's business practice of not being transparent about the cost of their glasses and how your insurance reimbursement may not cover the cost of your glasses even though they tell you it does. To me this is a bait and switch scheme. Additionally their Office Manager named Marsha is very unpleasant person and was more interested in collecting what she said was owed to them versus admitting their mistake or apologizing for it. read more

I had to change providers when my vision insurance changed and my current provider was no longer an option. After asking around, I finally decided on The Vision Clinic. In a nutshell, the recommendations I received said top-notch eye care but pricey on the eyeglasses. I saw Dr. Mitzi Lewis and her assistant Rachel. I am a health-care professional myself so I can confidently say they did a thorough job while being professional and friendly. Not rushed at all. The office itself is very aesthetically pleasing, neutral colors, calm, clean. State of the art technology. Barely any wait time, which surprised me since my appointment was late afternoon - a time when most offices have started to get behind. Everyone on staff, and I mean everyone from the check-in staff to the check-out gal and everyone in between, was friendly and professional. Everyone made eye contact and smiled instead of staring at their computer. Clearly this staff is focused on excellent customer service. As I had been told, there is a good selection of frames but they're priced higher than other places I've been so I chose to shop around. They gave a copy of my prescription to me without any problem at all. Contacts are about the same as other places. Overall I would highly recommend The Vision Clinic! if you're looking for a new provider (which is always so stressful!) you won't be disappointed. read more

They use technology well, for example: no air puff but instead a picture scanned of your eye and texts when your annual appointment is due with the ability to schedule your own appointment online. They scan old glasses and can tell you the prescription. Dr Thomas is friendly and thorough. I did not feel rushed. The front desk staff is friendly. I visited there with my younger daughter (newly 9). This was her first visit to The Vision Clinic, and first visit to any kind of eye doctor. The support staff did not seem very friendly, and I'm not sure if it was because she was a child, or if that is the normal level of service. I felt that they could have explained things to my daughter in a way she would understand, and also have more patience with her. The frame choices are limited with children, and they are VERY VERY expensive. I have found the exact same frames elsewhere for almost $100 less. Unless your insurance helps cover the cost of frames, I do not recommend purchasing your frames there. The doctor we saw (Dr. Katie) was very nice. I have been there as a patient myself, and I felt they did a good job. However, sadly, I would not recommend them for people with small children. read more

I've been to The Vision Clinic twice and I will definitely return in the future for anything I need. My wait time to see the doctor was really short and while I was waiting I was able to browse the frames they offer. My doctor on both occasions was friendly and really made me feel comfortable. They fully explain any questions I had and made sure I knew exactly what condition my eyes were in. Once I finished with the doctor I was able to browse the frame selection on my own, I didn't have an associate/optical assistant standing by me the whole time pushing certain frames on me or trying to make me hurry up. I was able to pick as many frames as I was interested in. The optical assistant who was helping me would offer me their opinion but, not tell me which one I should/should not get. My most recent visit I was struggling to make a decision between 2 different frames and the optical assistant, Kim, was EXTREMELY patient with me! She offered me her opinion as well as most of the other ladies in the optical dept which I certainly did appreciate. None of them told me which one to get, just what they thought of the frames on my face. I felt very welcomed and comfortable even though I was taking forever to make a decision. The frame selection ranges from inexpensive to pretty expensive. I'm a college student working part time and I was able to purchase a beautiful pair of Rampage black framed glasses that I think are very cute! I do have good vision insurance so that might possibly make a difference for some, you should check and see if The Vision Clinic accepts your insurance and what your insurance covers before you go anywhere, not just The Vision Clinic. Everyone from the ladies who check you in, to the nurse, to the doctor, to the optical dept certainly made my experience one that I will remember and pass on to friends/family. read more
