If you want your hair done by one of the best stylists in the city, Melanie, is the way to go. I've had my hair done by two of their other stylists, and they're good, but Melanie just gets it. She's thorough, upbeat, witty, charming and gets you in and out in no time. Too bad she's constantly booked and rarely takes on new clients! I love Virtue, and the ambiance and atmosphere of the salon. You'll always be treated well here. read more

I am over the moon and back in love with this place. I have been going here for almost a year, and due to this latest experience I just could NOT hold my excitement in any longer. First of all I had a color/cut scheduled right before my vacation and come to realize I came in on the WRONG day. They were so kind and fit me in within 15 minutes. Next step, what do I want to do... I thought she would have had me written off as the most annoying person in the world but she was patience and kind - enough I trusted her with to do a totally new look - which I adore. I would recommend to anyone who wants a trusted product and person with their hair. xoxo read more

I just wanted to update my previous review and share that I received an adorable handmade postcard in the mail from Julie as a follow up and thank you. I was pleased to see that cute card in the mail. I already handed out her business cards to a few friends, and I'll 100% be back in for my next cut. read more

I started going to Virtue Salon back in 2018 and I immediately fell in love. The staff, products, and overall experience at this salon is great. I've been with the same hair stylist since my first visit, Colleen White. We connected quite easily as we both had serving industry experience. Since my first visit my hair (full highlights + treatment + cut) has always looked wonderful. Colleen listens to what I want most out of my appointment and follows through. My hair has never looked so natural as a blonde. Salon perks, I'm a huge fan of their bottled shampoo and conditioner refill program. You are able to bring the same bottles purchased their back to be filled and help save the earth. During your hair cut there are many photos and decor to keep yourself entertained. The vintage theme is strong and I love it :)! The last thing I'd like to mention is that I've always felt welcomed whenever I'm in the salon or participating in any of their food trucks events outside their location. Virtue Salon has a great community aspect and I'll continue to support that! read more

I moved to Columbus in early June and was due for a haircut back then. After months of hemming and hawing and changing my mind a million times on where to go, I finally decided on Virtue thanks to their glowing Yelp reviews. And my experience definitely lived up! My appointment was with Sarah, and she was very welcoming and helpful - and more importantly, I LOVE my new cut! I have gotten nothing but raving compliments on it (even from someone I know who told me I would "regret it" when I told her that I was going with a short cut). Wash, cut, and style was only $30 - worth every penny. read more

I have been going to the same hairstylist for over a decade. Literally since high school. Anytime I ever cheated on her I had the worst haircut or color experience. I'm talking cheetah spots, mullets, the worst!! That being said I have an extreme phobia of going to anyone else. So every few months I'd make the two hour trip to Cleveland to see her. Well last week I got the brilliant notion to let one of my good gf's do my ombre. I figured how hard could it be? We watched a youtube video and thought we were for sure prepared. Memo to self when conducting hair experiments with bleach, you are never prepared unless you are a hair professional. It turned out orange and a piece was way fried, I was literally in a panic and my stylist couldn't get me in till next month. I immediately started googling ombre salons and up popped Virtue. Post after post of raving reviews, and my desperate hair needs made me take the plunge. Needless to say i'm ever grateful I did. Lexi toned, and fixed what should've been my ombre hair and gave me a trim. She listened to exactly what i wanted, talked me thru the whole process as I WAS SO NERVOUS, and honestly it was the best hair cut and color i've ever had! I'm loving the results and as much as i hate to say it I am breaking up with my old gal for her! I'M so happy to have found Virtue and Lexi, its a game changer for sure and a gem amongst so many corporate salons. Not to mention its super cute inside, and vegan friendly :). What more could you need. read more

I've always had great hair cuts at Virtue but after an experience today, I won't be coming back. I had scheduled an appointment on a Monday weeks ago but had a close friend pass away on Saturday and needed to cancel and reschedule my appointment due to having to change my work schedule in relation to the funeral. Due to Virtue's policy on needing to cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance, I attempted to call on Sunday. However, the Salon is closed on Sundays. I called again early Monday afternoon explaining the situation and seeing if I could reschedule. Instead of understanding the extenuating circumstance, the management told me I would still be charged with half of the price of the hair cut because I had a same day cancelation. Even though I attempted to explain that I called on Sunday, it didn't matter. I've truly loved having Virtue in the Clintonville area and have had great haircuts, but this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I've always equated the Salon as a meaningful addition to the neighborhood on being vegan and sending good vibes, but treating customers like this is not somewhere I want to be giving my business to. read more

Claire was an absolute delight to have cut and style my hair! She's a Level 4 stylist and only works two days a week, so I felt super lucky to get an appt with her only two days after I called to book. If you're looking for a quality salon haircut (with a $10 deep conditioning add-on for 10 min) then I highly recommend this amazing salon. Could not be happier about how my formerly-unruly mane turned out. Thanks again, Claire!! read more

I have been to several other salons around Columbus. And as a man wanting a practical, short, tapered cut done in classical styles, you cannot do better than Claire and Lexi, both of whom do wonderful tapered short cuts! Seriously, I have tried getting these same cuts in other places but these stylists listen to you and know what you want and are consummate professionals. I recommend them so very hlghly! read more

I moved to Texas over a year ago and still try to get my hair cut at Virtue whenever I'm in Columbus. They are seriously the best!

I've been going to Claire for a couple years and she is great. Beautiful Salon, great people, great products...and even a hot cup of tea! Highly recommend. read more

I had an appointment with Amy on Thursday and it was a great experience. I arrived early and expected to wait, but they took me in right away. Everyone was so friendly and the decor was adorable. Amy was great, she gave me a fantastic haircut and offered lots of little tips I could do to my hair. She also recommended some products for me to try, which I ended up purchasing. I would definitely come back! read more

Visited Virtue for the first time last weekend based on Yelp reviews, and loved it! It's a very cute, funky place that feels right at home in Clintonville. I saw Noel for my cut, and she was fantastic - she was able to give me exactly what I was looking for, despite my less than stellar description (is anyone ever really good at describing what they want for a haircut?). I asked to get a LOT of bulk taken out and she was not shy with the thinning shears, and I'm so glad! Previous stylists have shyed away, or have tried to talk me out of thinning my hair. She did a spot-on job. I liked Virtue so much I'll be back this weekend for my color, and I know my husband will love the Vice barbershop (a special little shop-within-a-salon, which I thought was really cool). I'm also a fan of Virtue for the value - services are very reasonably priced and I understand they frequently have deals for first-time guests. read more

I've been coming to Virtue for almost two years now, and I have nothing but amazing things to say about ALL of their staff. Their owners are incredible people too! I've been going to Sarah, and she is just amazing. She is sooooo talented and seems to enjoy a challenge (I come wanting to do something different with my color EVERY TIME). I adore Virtue Vegan Salon read more

I went here for the first time after seeing positive reviews and my experience exceeded all expectations. The staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. I wanted to get more than half of my hair cut off and Louie did an amazing job with my new style! I will be returning very soon to get color! read more

I just had my first appointment at Virtue-- and it won't be my last. I felt welcome as soon as I entered, I had no wait time for my stylist, and I got exactly the haircut I asked for-- actually, no, my stylist (Claire) suggested an improvement, and she was right. Plus, the products used were terrific, and when I said I'd like to splurge and purchase some, they didn't try to over-sell; Claire showed me both of the styling products she used in my hair, then told me which one she thought was more "necessary" than the other so I could stay within my budget. Cool atmosphere, professional and friendly staff, and a great cut. I'm hooked! read more

I've struggled finding a hair stylist I like since moving here- and FINALLY this place did the trick! I love that they're vegan and environmentally friendly- and the staff and atmosphere is just icing on the cake. They're so kind and welcoming- offering me something to drink when I walked in and taking my coat. Little things just to make sure I comfortable right from the start. They even sent me a cute little postcard after my visit! Hannah was a doll! She made me feel so pampered! I have thick curly hair and it's very difficult for me to find someone who knows how to cut it- and wow did she do a great job! She listened to what I wanted and checked in throughout the cut to make sure my desires were met. Love love love this place! Thank you Virtue! read more

Melanie and TJ and the entire salon are amazing. I have had my hair both cut and colored at the salon. I love how well educated all the stylists are and the salon atmosphere is incredible. They continue to put a lot of work into the salon to keep everything updated and still keep to the philosophy of their vegan roots. I appreciate all they do to help other stylists too and also make a difference in the community. An overall great salon!! Thank you!! read more

I have been here a few times. Always happy with my do, but Jarrod's expertise and attention to detail really blew me out of the water. I wanted a cut similar to the character played by Janelle Monae in the Hidden Figures movie. Jerrod was open and receptive and really tackled the finer aspects of the cut. I would say it is among the best hair cuts I have ever had. Plus he is a lovely person which made the whole experience fun as well! read more

Virtue is the best! If you are the type of person who finds it difficult to maintain conversation with your stylist after 2 hours of coloring, cutting, etc, then this is your place. The people here are so very cool and laid back! You also get a sense that the stylists are friends which isn't always the case in some places of business. I have had Teak give me a fabulous cut and have seen Sarah twice. Sarah let me come back the day after my first cut when I realized I wanted just a little bit taken off and didn't charge me. The results are great. The eyebrow wax I had was even a delight. The decor gives you great vibes and the body positive messages written on the chalkboard add a nice touch. It is hard to believe the decor is mostly recycled goods as the place is so tastefully put together and fun. Did I mention the vegan product they use and sell makes the place smell edible and delicious? Go here. You will want to go back. read more

I thought it would be nice to have a male perspective on this place.I've been going here for the past couple of months, and each time I've left with my expectations exceeded. All the girls in the shop do a great job, whilst keeping conversation flowing and making you feel comfortable and welcome. You can go in with an idea or leave the styling up to them. If you can get an appt with mitch, their in house barber, do so. The guy knows what he is doing and will get you in and out in no time with a great cut. read more

I recently moved here from STL and asked just about everyone I came in contact with what salon they would recommend, the verdict was Charles Penzone. So, I gave them a try and hated it. They did the complete opposite of what I asked when it came to my color and charged me a lot. So poor little Noel had her work cut out fixing someone else's problem...and she did amazing! I have never got so many compliments on my color as I have after she worked her magic. Thank you so much. I will say that I have only been there once and have not got a cut here yet but will be going back for the whole sha-bang. read more

I have been going to Virtue for over a year and I can't say enough about Sarah. She is very patient and understanding about all your needs. Some color that I have used before made my scalp itch for days. I have highlights put in and with all there products being extremely safe I am very pleased. Melanie the owner knows what she is doing to create a fun and safe salon :) read more

I had a wonderful experience at the Virtue Salon! I love how they have a great selection of vegan hair products or even have vegan hair products period. Most places just offer the typical options such as Redken. The service was fantastic and my hair ended up looking wonderful! I highly recommend this salon to anyone who is or isn't a vegan. It has a very modern feel and somewhat eclectic as well! read more

They really listen to their client and do a wonderful job. Cayla is amazing. Love the atmosphere. Love my cut. I won't be going anywhere else. read more

Zoey is the bee's knees. Virtue has a sense of community and integrity. You will love it. GO!

I really like the philosophy behind this place, but after getting so-so results with my color from three different stylists, I'm going to try elsewhere. Everyone is really nice and the ambience is fun, but it just hasn't been a match. I also don't like the way they finish up-they blow dry you about as well as you could do at home. read more

I really hate to give a bad review because I love the philosophy of the salon, the atmosphere, and the young lady that cut my hair was so nice! However...I cried when I got to the car and more when I got home and realized I have no idea how I'm going to style my hair now. I don't know if she just made a mistake and was trying to fix it, and just ended up looking worse, but tell them before you cut your hair to NOT USE thinning/texturizing shears. I had spent 3 months trying to grow out layers that I had from another salon that I didn't like and just wanted what I had trimmed up so that it had shape and movement. Only wanted half inch off the length, got about an inch from the front. Ended up with a lightbulb/balloon shape to my hair where the top is poofy/curly and mid ear down the curl has been "sliced" out and is just thin and stringy looking in some spots and other spots flipped up looking. I went back to have it fixed the same day, but she seemed unsure about what to do, and I was nervous, so just tried to even out the top...one side is still longer/heavier at the top/sides than the other. It's been a week and I have to scrunch and pic and move layers around to disguise the wedge cut out of my hair. I have more layers now and when I try to braid my hair on the sides, I have pieces popping out all over, whereas before even though I had layers they didn't. I was really disappointed most of all that my stylist didn't ask if I had my hair cut before with thinning/texture shears or wanted my hair thinned. Everywhere else, before they take a drastic step like that they've asked first, and I always say NO from a bad experience years ago. But by the time I realized what she was doing it was too late. Back to growing it out again :( read more

I'm a little disappointed. I was really digging this place and excited to get my hair done here. I called to book my appt (a cut and ombre color). The lady on the phone mentioned I would need to come in for a consult first and then they would book my color cut at a later date OR I could have the consult & cut then come back for the color at a later date. I live in North Powell and with my demanding job/work hours, I barely have the time to carve out to get a haircut/color in the first place, let alone take time to drive there once and then again for a seperate service. I am extremely bummed I can't get everything done in one day without having to drive there twice. I understand every establishment has a policy but it is extremely dissapointing. I had such high hopes :( read more

I love this salon and its values, but I had an especially great experience with Brittany. It was the first time that I've ever gotten color professionally done and been happy with the results. She really took her time and gave me exactly what I asked for, I loved the cut as well. She was easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about her craft. I love my hair and I will definitely book with her in the future! read more

I tried this salon because I was thrilled that they were all vegan. After going there, I now know that it is so much more. The shop is adorable and quirky, which I loved. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I felt like I had a million requests and wasn't sure how they would be able to meet them all, but I absolutely love my color and cut. I will definitely be back! My new favorite salon! Thank you! read more

This is by far the best salon I've ever been to. The service is incredible, the atmosphere is comforting, and my hair always looks exactly how I wanted it to. Plus, I can feel good supporting a local business that is socially responsible! The business cards are all printed onto repurposed materials. Virtue's decor is mostly if not all second-hand as well (which makes it even MORE impressive how beautifully decorated the place is!) I love this salon. There's no other like it. read more

I had the BEST experience here!! Sheila is so wonderful! She colored and cut my hair to absolute perfection. So incredibly sweet too! Thank you for taking care of me and I can't wait to come back!!! read more

I went to Virtue a couple weeks ago and had my hair cut by Claire. I jump around to lots of salons because since moving to Columbus (10 yrs ago!), I haven't been able to find a good fit. I think I finally found it, though! Claire was great and I love my cut, even three weeks out, it still looks great. I really thought the place was sweet, though. It may have been an odd time, but it wasn't too crowded and everyone there was really nice. I was worried about it being too trendy and thought I might feel uncomfortable since I'm not a cool, neon wearing twenty something, but they were very welcoming. The atmosphere and the music were great and Claire was a pleasure to talk with for an hour or so. I will definitely be going back to this cute little place. read more

I am new to Columbus and was in search for a great stylist. Kayla at Virtue was the answer to my prayers!!! I made a short consult with her prior to my appointment to go over ideas of what I was looking for and her recommendations. She brought out the shop's iPad and went over a few ideas with me and we were able to put together to PERFECT combination of color choice and cut. I highly recommend her to everyone! She is wonderful and really provides you with the perfect color and cut that your facial features match best with. read more

I first came across this salon online because of the more ethical products that they use, and when I found out they were located in a great spot in Clintonville (apparently their new location), I had to check it out. Because I was getting color done, I had to come in for a consultation. The place has a great atmosphere, its very relaxing and has none of the bright lights and overly chemical smells of traditional salons. I had my appointment with Hannah who is an apprentice stylist and she did an amazing job on my cut and color. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten on the color, even from complete strangers. I made my appointment to come back! read more

The atmosphere is amazing. I had a unique challenge for Kendra -- to trim and color my hair, sideburns, AND Van Dyke facial hair. I knew it was an experiment, so I just thought I'd see what we could do, and she pulled off an awesome job! She was very attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable in my time there, and we had a great conversation through it all. She really knew her stuff! I actually found it a great value for the price. I will definitely be back! read more
