I wanted to like this place so much but I'm afraid I would not recommended this place unless my friends or family are Caucasian. I don't want to say who did my hair because I feel bad but I am extremely disappointed with my haircut. My highlights though look very nice. My hair cut was supposed to be layers.. I feel like I got a bob . I didn't mind her going short because I like my hair short but it definitely was not the shape I was going for and lady didn't know how to style my hair... you know when you go in for a cut and shape if you have some dead hair and it won't get curly they normally take their finger and style it. It's like she didn't know how to do that. I won't be back. Spending $210 for a haircut you don't like and highlights is insane to me. The workers were nice but I just wouldn't go back. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. I just moved back to OH. and needed a haircut. I called went on this salon's website in June and made an appt. for their first available appt, which was July 24! I arrived a few minutes before my appt. and told the person who came to the desk that I had 4:30 appt with ABBY. She indicated that I should take a seat in the waiting area. By 5PM I was still waiting-so I walked into the salon room and asked if Abby was even in the salon since I had been waiting over 35 minutes. Turns out Abby was right there working on a client. She stepped out to the desk and told me I wasn't on her schedule and I l wasn't even in the computer. I told her that I had gotten a confirmation text. Well she said I can make you another appt. but not til Aug 6. I took the appt. which I cancelled today. They staff here is very cold and rude. Avoid Sifen at all costs. For an $81 haircut she DOES NOT LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER. Worst hair trim I've experienced in 62 years. She cut 1/2in at most and it was to be a haircut post 3 months since a before surgery haircut. She did not listen to a single bit of my concerns as she trimmed. I pointed out areas that poked out - she refused to correct them. Owner is out which is perfectly understandable but if Sifen was trained, I can't for the life of me see how. Amy is better than that. Such a sad reflection on a typically wonderful salon. Save your money and wait til Amy is back running her salon and DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS STYLIST. I'm going to repay and have to have it fixed by another salon. read more

So happy that this curly salon exists! I've had 2 visits with Cydney and 1 with Syphen, all of which have been great. I've wanted highlights for years, and Cydney slayed my hair! Upon looking at other reviews I see Ester had done the same uneven and unsatisfactory cut on another girl. Uneven messy and left horribly styled with 'noodles for hair' ) This salon RUINED my hair. And had no sympathy or solutions for me when I asked. This was my first appointment with a curly specific hair salon and I can't believe the lack of professionalism or even consideration for someone new to the process. Ester was the specialist I booked with, I let her know upon entering it was my first time and I just knew I wanted some layers in my hair and a little face framing but no length. We repeated the 'no length' bit multiple times. During the appointment I said things like 'Oh it looks interesting' and 'My hair looks like it's in all different directions' as she's styling it because I was wary about how my curls weren't curling. Which I told the owner as well because she told me I needed to communicate. She brushed it off and had me try and part my hair and do it how I usually would and then continued. My curls weren't forming so by the end she sprayed a wax spray and tried twirling my hair to add some. I left and was talking to my sisters showing them my hair and asking if I was justified in worrying and only further confirmed I was when I was my hair and tried to do my routine and my hair just fell flat. After reaching out to the salon explaining the situation I was greeted by the owner pretty much telling me I was in the wrong for not voicing I didn't like the end result immediately before I left and that I should've 'found inspiration pictures closer to my actual hair' after explaining I showed some and then what my hair usually looks like. Not any sympathizing with the fact that it was my first time and I voiced 'no length and just some layers and face framing multiple times. Then told me I needed to come there and let her 'fix it' as if you can magically grow all the hair I lost back. She even told me that the style curls I had would no longer curl when cut short? Yet insisted on my coming back to the salon after contradicting herself saying my hair wouldn't curl. She wouldn't refund me or treat me with an ounce of respect over the matter. You'd think after crying for over a week now over the loss of my curls when my hair takes so unbelievably long to grow back, that the place would have some respect for clients. I even explained I live 40 minutes away and we've been in terrible weather AND it's the holidays so I don't know how she expects me to come back and to which I got no response. Extremely unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I loved my first couple stylists, they were great but no longer work there. And then I made an appointment with the owner herself. My appointment started almost 45 minutes late because she was chatting with a friend who's hair she was doing. She finally got to me and butchered my hair as quick as she could and sent me on my way. I left and cried in the car. I wasn't brave enough to say anything until now when I've heard that there are others who weren't happy with her or her attitude and approach to their hair. Also, every product I got from them (recommended) contained sulfates and some type of silicone so they weren't even healthy to use on my hair. I won't pretend to be happy again there. I have since found someone at a different salon who specializes in curly hair and has the knowledge and approach to back it up read more

I moved from Austin, TX to Columbus about a year ago and was really worried that I wouldn't find a place to get my hair done that I loved as much as the one I went to in Austin. Fortunately, I found this place and have no regrets! The front desk girls are always super polite and accommodating. I love that they are particular about what products they sell, and they even have some that are based out of Columbus! I see Aleka and she always makes sure to ask what I want before starting. She never makes me feel rushed even though my hair takes forever (even at a curly haired salon haha). She has taught me many things about how to better take care of my hair even though I thought I was already a pro at taming my beast of a mane. Even if it takes awhile to book an appointment, it's worth the wait! I usually just schedule my next appointment ahead of time so I don't have any issues. Even when Aleka had to reschedule our appointment because she was sick, I was able to get an appointment within a week or two. I cannot recommend this place enough if you have curly hair! read more

This is my second time seeing Amy for a cut and my first time at their new location in Gahanna. Amy is an absolute genius with curly hair! My first cut with her brought new life into my formerly flat curls; my curls bounced back up to their normal springy state and the cut lasted a full 8 weeks until my next appointment. The staff at Ambushed are also incredibly friendly and welcoming when you walk in, the products they use are top notch, and as an added bonus, they have good coffee. This salon also has convenient parking behind the building, which is a huge plus! I recommend Amy and Ambushed to all of my friends with curly hair. I hadn't let anyone touch my hair for 5 years and I was so excited to get my hair colored. I had been working so hard with my hair to make it grow out healthy and I was finally ready to have hands other than mine touch my beautiful hair. I went back the next day and demanded a refund but they only wanted to refund me $15 back!? This salon is not in the least bit diverse. They specialize in WHITE hair, not ethnic hair. Amy has been styling my thick, coarse wavy/curly crazy hair for the past 10 years at least. Sadly, before I found her I was one of those people who went to a salon weekly to endure an hour of blowing my poor curls straight because no one knew how to cut a flattering style that didn't end up looking like a triangular monstrosity. Amy is a true artist. She literally cuts my hair curl by curl, carving out a masterpiece every time I go in.
