Love Love Love transcriptions!! Only wish we had phone call transcriptions too!!
    Pam B.

Absolutely unprofessional!!! Called to check to see if I could get in sooner then my original appointment and come to find out my appointment was never booked. After giving feedback to the manager on the boy who "supposedly" booked my appointment the manager decided to tell me to find another salon and hung up the phone on me. Rather than accepting and accommodating a customer giving valuable feedback on their front desk staff they get defensive and are quick to react irrationally! If a company can not handle constructive criticism why would anyone want to book with them. They don't respect customers and also are very unprofessional! If you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen!!

Great cut and color by Evan!

Evan and his staff have really helped me transform my curls. Over the course of probably 3-4 years, I've seen just about every stylist and they are all wonderful and knowledgeable. My advice to you: if you want beautiful and healthy curls, you must trust the process! Listen to their advice and use only their approved products. I'm telling you, it'll work wonders if you give it some time and put in the work!! Not all curly hair cuts are created equal! Deva cuts are NOT the same as EJH curly cuts! If you want to be sure your curls will be taken care of, you NEED and EJH curly cut. I promise!

8 months after my last cut, and 2 months overdue for a trim. But still having good hair days throughout the pandemic.

This is not just a review, but a huge thank you note to Evan Joseph and his staff. I visited his salon twice last year and am committed to going every 6 months, as long as it's safe to fly in from DC. Why? Evan Joseph is a curly hair master. When I came in, my hair did not have a proper shape yet. I had "shelves" instead of proper layers. I also had damage from years of using drug store product, and my hair was recovering. He did a thorough consultation and listened to what I wanted (a low maintenance cut with no hair in my face bc I have acne prone skin, a nice shape, and to maintain length while prioritizing hair health). He then presented three options based on his expertise and my desires: 1. Trim just a bit of my hair to maintain length, but sacrifice shape and health (and not look too much different than when I walked in) 2. An in between option, where we cut my hair over two sessions to get to the ideal shape while still leaving the salon that day with a nice shape and not too short of a cut 3. Go all in and cut what was needed to get the best shape that day Even though he knew option 1 was not the best, he presented it anyway to make sure I would be happy when I left the salon. He really listened, but was honest with me, and that is not the kind of experience I have had with hair stylists in the past! I chose option 2, and we cut my hair in two stages over 6 months. My hair looked amazing, even after the first cut in May 2019! I also have Angelica to thank for this, because she took her time to explain how to style my hair properly (I was using the right products, but not correctly. She fixed me up after my first visit.) And it looked even more incredible after the second cut in November 2019 and an additional 6 months of following his advice. In fact, I was scheduled to go back in May 2020 for a cut, but couldn't because of the pandemic. I hope I can make my appointment in November, but I posted a pic of what my hair looks like today...even though I am overdue for a trim, my hair still looks great! I am so grateful for his amazing salon and service. But not only is he an incredible stylist, he is also a generous master of his craft and kind human being. How so? 1) The first time I interacted with Evan Joseph was about a year before my first service. Without even knowing I would be a future client, he responded to my questions over Instagram and gave me amazing advice for my hair. FOR FREE. Thus, I was able to start following his advice way before my first appointment. He didn't have to do that, but he did without expecting anything in return. 2) I desperately needed a cut before my first appointment with Evan Joseph. Because of how generous he is with his time, I was able to find a stylist in DC that has benefited from his educational training and used his recommended products/ procedures. As a result, I had a really great first curly cut experience locally while I waited for my appointment at Evan Joseph Salon and did not have to resort to getting my hair cut by a stylist who required I straighten it first. 3) I am so impressed with his response in the midst of COVID-19 and social unrest in response to police brutality. He continues to prioritize the health of his staff and community over profit. Can you really ask for a more compassionate response? Thank you so so much for everything. When I saw your Instagram feed, I immediately reached out for advice and decided to do exactly what you told me bc the results you posted spoke for themselves. My hair has transformed, and continues to look better and better each day that I follow your advice. Ohio is so lucky to have you!

I my curls so much more after Cheyenne worked her magic!
    Deme J.

I found the salon & Cheyenne on Instagram, & after watching their feeds for a while, I decided to schedule an appointment, although I live in St. Louis. I'm a naturally curly girl, but I've never had a curly cut, so I was super excited to see Cheyenne! I was greeted promptly upon arrival at the shop, & Cheyenne asked me questions about my hair. After that, she jumped right into cutting & styling. She focused solely on me & my hair the whole time. Everyone in the shop was super nice. After she was finished, I LOVED my hair!!! I've never felt so good about my curls after a cut as I did when she finished! Before, I really wasn't happy with the back of my hair because after being cut straight so many times by 'stylist' that didn't know how to deal with kiinky curly hair, my curls just never laid right in the back. After finishing, once Cheyenne showed me the back of my hair, I literally cried tears of joy! I scheduled my next 6 month appointment before I left.

I have been trying to get an appointment here for years and finally got one. Lived up to the hype and worth every penny! I had a great experience with Angelica. I have struggled to maintain a consistent curl in my hair and she showed me how to appropriately brush, style, and maintain my curls. This cut added great definition! Covid note - I felt very safe with the precautions the salon has in place. They are NOT blow drying so if you have plans after like I did be prepared to walk out with wet hair

My 5 year old daughter came in for a trim, wash and style. Destiny had a family emergency so I was offered another stylist, Karrington which I accepted since my daughter was very excited to go. She ended up leaving with hair that looked worse than what she came in with. I take very good care of her hair. Her hair looked extremely dry after Karrington did it and it also had a gray cast to it (I'm assuming from whatever product she used). I also was grilled with what products I use in her hair. I only use professional products that were recommended by her previous stylist. I felt that I was pushed to purchase products that they carried in the store. I had veryhigh hopes for the salon, but left disappointed. $200 for a 5 year olds hair trim and wash. I did see other women with looser curls that looked great when they were done. Perhaps, this isn't the salon for really coily hair. The salon was aesthetically pleasing but that was about it with our experience.

Jason was amazing. I asked for a trim and to get my hair shaped a bit. I love how my hair turned out and how hydrated my curls were. I came from Seattle to go to this salon and will be back in 6 months for another trim. Best curly cut/trim, wash and style I've ever gotten!

I have had nothing but great experiences here. I will say, I'm someone who doesn't plan ahead well,…read moreso when I schedule a haircut/color, it's usually last minute so I schedule with whoever has an opening. As a result, I've had appointments with many of the women here and they all have done a fantastic job. The usual visit goes: I do a terrible job explaining what I want exactly (usually accompanied by a picture or two), they somehow decipher it and make their own suggestions, and I walk out loving my new color (and cut but I usually just trim a couple inches so nothing special there). Everyone's super nice and they're good at reading whether or not I want to chat or just have an hour or two of relative silence/escape from my hectic life. They also always suggest cheaper ways of doing what I want and I'm grateful for that (and it always looks amazing). They also always take into account my infrequency of visits and suggest things that will take less upkeep which is also appreciated. Picture is just the most recent haircut and color; sorry it's just half my hair but it might give you an idea! The only problem is that parking is a nightmare in the area. There are usually some free meters in the area (try a street down from the salon, next to the UDF) but if you're getting something that might take more than two hours, those two hour meters aren't super helpful.

We also had a long conversation where I discovered the conditioners I was using were too heavy. I was doing too much for my type of hair. She gave me so much layering and body, while lightening the weight. My hair is so much easier to manage now and looks 100 times better. He gave me an American Balayage, which is like an ombré on steroids, in March at his precious salon location in Clintonville. The color grew out so beautifully and naturally that I didn't get my hair re-colored until December 1. And I only got two haircuts in those nine months because the haircut, too, grew out so nicely. I'm a graduate student, and Darren is always mindful of my budget. But because his haircuts last so darn long, I can afford to get fancier color. Also, I thought Darren was exaggerating when he said that a Brazilian Blowout would change my life. I have really frizzy hair, so a promise of "no frizz, and you'll roll out of bed every morning looking like you walked out of a salon" sounded impossible. But omg, it has seriously improved my life. No frizz, not even after CrossFit workouts in the summer humidity. I roll out of bed looking like I just had my hair done, and I have no split ends. It's ah-maze-ing. Darren is also a real sweetie, always fun to talk to and fun to watch while he's working. He works at the quick, efficient clip of someone who really knows their craft. He's the best!
