I was originally scheduled with Kat, but because she was sick she wasn't in on the day I was scheduled, and that's okay I'm usually flexible. So someone called me the day before asking if I wanted to 'reschedule with Kat or if I wanted to still do it today there's another stylist who is very experienced, is on the same level as Kat, and will do a really good job' so I said sure I can switch. I go in to my session yesterday and show her the same pictures I had sent Kat. The girl said in order to get the color i want we would need to lighten my hair and then tone it. So I said okay. About a quarter way through her lightening my hair I asked if it was a dye. She said it was bleach. I didn't know lightening hair was bleaching, but it makes sense and that's my fault for not clarifying. I figured she knew what she was doing so I continued on with it and didn't say anything. After like 4 hours we washed the bleach out and she put a toner in and my hair ended up being an orange/yellow. I was going for the complete opposite of that, like an ash brown kind of color. I couldn't even say anything about how much I didn't like it because I was there all day and just wanted to leave and didn't feel good about my hair. I go home. I look her up on Instagram and I find out she's an apprentice. I understand people need to practice and learn but I really wish whoever scheduled me would've been honest about the level she is on. The next morning I call back because I just can't walk around looking how I looked, especially since I am going to a wedding. I get it retoned by the same girl and yes it's better, but it still is not even close to what I was going for. Instead it's a little bit more closer to my original hair color just slightly darker. I feel like my hair is ruined from the bleach. It's so brittle. And I honestly feel like I could've done the exact same thing with a box dye from Walgreens and spent $15 rather than $245. I wish my hairstylist would have told me it would take multiple sessions to get to my color goal or just say she didn't know how to. Not giving 1 star because she at least was willing to try and fix it. And it's my own fault for not knowing she was going to bleach my hair. She was really sweet and I just feel bad that I didn't like it. I really wanted to.

They were my special treat growing up where they helped me through my different hair phases and for all of my special occasions. They're now my "treat myself" luxury as an adult and even after I moved, I kept driving about an hour and a half (one way, about 3 hours round trip) to get my hair done. They always made it right when things went wrong and I stuck by them, even when they remodeled and made my "relaxation time" public to the rest of the salon (nobody likes being placed in a lobby/"social room" with foils on their head to be gawked at. I recently decided that after a couple bad encounters with the salon that I'm done getting my hair done by them. Caught in traffic? They have a 15 min policy where they cancel your service, which kinda sucks when you drive over an hour and get stuck in traffic. The girl I've been seeing there for almost 3 years also left and I was never notified and they wouldn't tell me if she went to another salon. The cherry on top was when I requested to know the color they have on file for me and they refused to tell me. Evryone's time is valuable and I understand that they don't want competition, but my money and time is also valuable and I can't keep driving an hour and a half to get my hair done with the threat of having my appointment suddenly cancelled. I'm also loyal to the service rather than the provider, so being set up with someone else that doesn't know my hair or allergies is also a pain. I've already decided I'm not returning whether or not they give me my color, so for the health of my own hair it would have been nice to know what they were putting on me. So, I'll end with, it's up to you whether or not you visit this salon. I've had good and bad experiences and it's been totally dependent on who is providing the service to me. Understand that you can invest all the time and money in the world to them, but just like most businesses they still won't care.

Thanks to a sheer act of spontaneity I finally made it happen and Penzone made the cut. I just happened to be scrolling through my Yelp app looking for salons nearby and Penzone jumped out at me because this location has been there forever. I've also had my hair cut at one of their other locations forever ago and when I looked at their availability, they had an appointment the very next day at 5pm. I didn't even care who the stylist was, I just needed it done. I arrived right on time, checked in, and grabbed a beverage while I waited. It wasn't long before I was greeted by my stylist, Sage. She was easy to talk to, listened to what I wanted, and gave good advice and direction when I was tempted to do something I wasn't planning on doing. I knew exactly what I wanted, as I was looking to get the same cut I did last summer. Your basic long bob, about collar bone length. We did the washing and cutting and drying and cutting again and I was out of there in about an hour and a half. I'm really pleased with it and enjoyed Sage's approach so I made an appointment to come back in a few months. The price point was cheaper than the place I used to go to and I was way more satisfied.

I'm sure my awesome experiences had almost everything to do with the stylist I saw for years. He is absolutely the best, and really knows how to cut and color in order to flatter the client's features. He is a natural artist in this genre and he's a down to earth nice person. I dislike forced, fake conversation, and my appointments with him never felt that way. I think the price is great for what you get. You can't go to a nice salon for any less than this. I've never had hair cuts that actually made my hair look longer until I grew my hair out with my stylist here. He's amazing with long hair cuts and style, and he can do a great blow-dry so you don't have to go home and "fix" things first. You can go here for services directly before an important event. In fact, I'd recommend it. In a pinch I've seen other stylists there who were very good, too, but I don't recall their names.. I've tried finding something, anything on par with Max in my new location, but so far no luck. Also came home to do my hair to see what it would look like with big curls and my hair was just super greasy from the crazy amount of hair spray she put in my hair.
