I've been on the hunt for a new hair salon after my previous go-to girl retired. I had heard great things about Phia and after a gym sesh across the street I decided to randomly swing by to see if they had availability anytime soon. When I walked in I was super surprised to be greeted by a virtual assistant through a monitor. It was something straight out of the Jetsons. After they asked me a few questions they happened to have an opening an hour later so I swiped that one up and came back after a bit. I was randomly assigned a hairstylist, Minnie, and it was like the stars in the universe aligned because we clicked right away. She asked me all about my hair and what I was looking for. I'm a wing it type of person but I did have some things in mind. I ended up getting a trim with some wisby longish bangs and she was able to keep my length which was awesome. At the end she mentioned the different products she used in my hair and sent me home with a "care card" with recommendations on when to return and who else to see if she wasn't in. I've been here twice before and received great haircuts from other stylists. After coming in for a third time for a cut and eyebrow wax I left in tears. Not only did the stylist completely botch my haircut and cut it 2 inches shorter than requested- leaving me with a blunt cut above my chin, something I explicitly said I didn't want- but she also ripped parts of my facial skin off during the waxing process- leaving me with open wounds that will scab and scar. The stylist didn't bother to ask if I used retinols before waxing, and tried to pretend that a layer of my skin getting torn off was typical and was too in a rush to even ask questions or take the needed time when cutting my hair or waxing my face. Even when applying eyebrow tint, you can see she didn't make it even. read more

I had a particular style in mind. Left instructions during booking. Sadly it was nothing at all that wanted. I was going out to celebrate my birthday. Had to go home and re-do my hair. Minnie my "stylist " said she gave me a haircut but she only trimmed some of my ends. I was charged over 80.00 dollars for a shampoo and blow dry. I went to a different "salon" and they butchered my hair. The next day, I went and saw Kalen @ Phia and he fixed my hair. He obviously couldn't give me back the length that I lost (I had hair to my butt, now it's just past shoulder length) but he was able to soften the blunt concrete steps the other place gave me. I checked on Yelp and found Phia Salon. As I read the reviews I loved how the owner responded to each one with respect and courtesy, even the reviews that were not too flattering. If the reviewer had issues, she wanted to correct those issues to help them have a better experience. That is what made me pick them. And I gotta tell you, I lucked out. I was placed with Bailey and I set the appointment out a few weeks to prepare myself. Bailey texted me multiple times during the few weeks, asking me what I wanted in a style, could I send her pictures of a time when I loved my cut, things like that. She was very responsive and I felt absolutely at ease by the time my appointment arrived. Even as I sat down for my cut, Bailey asked me a lot of questions about what I envisioned for my hair after my visit. She took her time and gave me exactly what I asked her for. After about 5 weeks of messaging, I accepted what I feel was a fair offer from Phia to remedy the situation and am changing this review to 4 stars. If I could figure out how, I would remove the original stylist's name from my first review, as I don't feel it's fair to her. She is still a Level 1 stylist and I imagine she has learned from this mistake. A stylist named Annah adjusted the color and it is more aligned with what I had in mind. She also offered to trim my neck hair, which was much appreciated since it's been several weeks since I had my hair cut short as a fix to the original cut and it was much needed. It's my understanding management met with my original hairdresser and talked over her mistakes with her. Those included not telling me my curl pattern was different than the inspiration photos, not telling me the three photos were all very different cuts, the stylist trying to merge three very different haircuts into one, being too cautious with the highlights and not pointing out to me that two of the three photos were women with hair that had been curled. (Yes, I know next to nothing about hair styling.) I appreciate the openness of the communication with both Elizabeth and Annah, who I believe are part owners of the salon. They both admitted the original haircut was not acceptable. While it took longer to correct this situation then I would have liked, I know mistakes happen and, in the end, I feel like Phia did a good job making me feel valued as a client. read more

It was a recent surprise ER visit and I found myself in the operating room for some tests. The anesthesiologist kept trying to secure my oxygen mask and finally said, "We're just going to have to hold it or something- Your hair, it's just, I don't know. So healthy and remarkably silky!". I admittedly have high expectations when it comes to my hair experience so this 5 star review did not come easily at all. My experience with Phia Salon, Elizabeth (salon owner), and Rania (stylist) was beyond incredible, and since they blew me away with their service, I need to show my appreciation and sing their praises... I spent the last 3 years at the aveda square one salon downtown where I wasn't always getting the greatest service or results. I wanted to change salons, and since I am a client that will be in every 4-6 weeks, it was very important to me to find the right fit. I had written a lengthy email describing my previous salon experience, what I was looking for in a new salon and what I was looking for in a new stylist based on my hair needs. The owner of Phia, Elizabeth, actually responded to my initial yelp inquiry herself which I never would have expected. She got back to me quickly and we did a type of email consultation back and forth while she worked through the process of ultimately matching me with Rania. After officially making the switch, I can say that Phia did NOT disappoint and now I can see why they are constantly ranked as the best salon in Columbus. I needed help with color correcting a harsh dark root (see before phots) and wanted to transition to a more classic and natural looking hairstyle with some bayalage. So in order to lift my base, my first appointment required two separate processings... so I spent over four hours with Rania. She is so sweet and fun to talk to, yet still so professional with her attention to detail (and not cutting corners, even during a 4 hour appointment). We both had expectations that I would still need multiple visits to get things looking natural again, but after just one appointment she was able to give my hair a whole makeover and had it looking gorgeous and natural again. I was shocked and couldn't be happier... she can work magic in just ONE appointment which is amazing. (I just had my 6 week follow-up yesterday for my root touch up and cut and had the same 5 star experience again). I also have to give major kudos to Elizabeth and the whole team of stylists for creating such a beautiful environment to be in, and I don't just mean aesthetically. The salon is gorgeous, but what I loved most about all 3 visits was that the staff were all so kind and sweet, not just to clients, but with each other. That isn't always the case at other salons. Every interaction I witnessed was genuine: people laughing, smiling, hugging. Happy to be there and happy to be together. There was a positive vibe that you could actually feel. You'll know what I mean if you've gone to a salon that feels cold and detached (even after being a regular). That atmosphere left an impression on me for sure. I love getting my hair done at Phia Salon! Especially the one in the Short North location! Hair, lunch and shopping! The attention to detail from the initial appointment set up, confirmation/consult and then the service is on par with a high quality salon. It's always a little intimidating to walk into a salon you've never been to but these employees are always happy to see you! My hairdresser, Gia, is amazing! She always asks me if I want to do something new and can guide me to the perfect cut & color that will work best for me. What I love most about this company is how much support they get from the owner in terms of more education and opportunities to grow beyond being a hairstylist. I had a lovely experience at my first time at Phia. The salon itself is very beautiful. My stylist, Wesley, was truly a delight. I just came in for a cut, and I wasn't 100% certain what I wanted besides a "change." Wesley talked me through some ideas based on one picture I brought, but also based on what would work for my hair type, my level of commitment to a hair routine, and my face shape. I love the final look! I think it really suits me. I left with lots of advice on how to manage the new 'do myself. UPDATE; After my initial review, and complaining in person the artistic director reached out to address my concerns with my color. In addition I discovered that the shirt I wore to my initial appointment had been ruined by bleach. Annah and Elizabeth both reached out in an effort to correct my botched dye job. Annah did correct my color to the best it could be. I was also compensated for my time and trouble. I do appreciate the effort that the phia management went to in order to restore my confidence in their salon. Annah made me feel like my concerns were listened to and addressed. I left much happier after my color correction. So again, the management of phia went above and beyond to correct the error, and for that I am very grateful -------------- I have been going to phia for iver a year and seeing MJ for my pixie cut. She is AMAZING and always does an incredible job. Seriously. Best stylist there. So when my usual colorist was booked up I figured I would give phia a try. Huge mistake. I've has white/grey hair for 6mo. I know my hair can lift to that color. I saw Lux who is supposed to be their fashion color "expert". -she bleached my whole head, not just my roots -the bleach was left on for MAYBE half the length of time it should have been (again, had she bleached only the roots she could have left it on longer) -I was one of 3 clients she was seeing and as a result her assistants did most of the work. I'm paying for her. Not an assistant. -I usually overtone my hair a little. But when she was done it was BRIGHT PURPLE at the ends. -she over processed the tips of my hair, resulting in massively different colors. And yes my roots are going to be a smidge darker. However what I received was bleach yellow roots and purple rips where the hair was over processed. For $140 I am beyond posted. I don't usually tell people how to do their job. I'm not a stylist. But this is comically bad. For the price I paid, I expect results somewhat close to what I ask for. Especially when I know my hair is capable of it. I love phia for their cuts. But good lord never go to them for color. even their "expert" doesn't seem to know what their doing. read more

Last hair cut at a different salon yielded pretty poor conversation but more importantly I did not feel as though the person understood what I was hoping for--Cassandra was exceptional in this respect and gave me honest feedback. I ended up going to Phia Salon after doing A LOT of research. I am from Miami, Fl and have very thick wavy/curly hair and finding a salon here has quite the task. Until I found Rania at Phia Salon. After I had decided on Phia Salon, I then had to find a stylist and chose Rania due to her description on their website as well as the other reviews on here about her. Her description was exactly what I was looking for in a stylist as she is the queen of natural looks and seemed to have a lot of experience with Balayage. Once I had made the appointment with her I knew I had made the right choice because she texted me prior to our appointment, so she could prepare accordingly. Once I got there, I was obviously still very nervous, but the moment she got ahold of my hair her enthusiasm was contagious. She started working her magic and a few hours later she had finally achieved the balayage that I had been trying to get (much to no avail) for years. Love this salon- been coming here for years! Both my mom and I have been here many times for services and products. I've gotten a simple haircut from all ranges of levels of stylists, and all great results. I recently went in and got the bottom half of my hair colored, and was brand new to any coloring processes. Sunshine reached out to me a few days before my appt to get an idea of what I was looking for, and to send any photos that I thought may be useful. We had a very constructive conversation about the proper colors and process that would be best for my hair (I was nervous for the permanency of color!). Everything went great, and I actually left wishing I had more noticeable color. Sunshine reached out two days later asking how it all went, and I told her my hopes of making the cope a bit more noticeable than how it turned out. Sunshine was super receptive and had me back in the salon within two weeks and colored again free of charge. Everything at Phia is handled professionally, and with great care. Update to initial review: Phia salon went above and beyond to address the issue with my cut. Although I ended up with more length taken than originally desired, I am happy that it finally looks thicker than it has in the past and that it is now even. The experience was great. I really liked my stylist and could tell she was listening and gave me the cut and color I wanted. The only bummer is that one side is longer than the other which happened last time with another stylist. I just don't feel like carving out the time to have it fixed this time. Aggh but just took a picture and it seems way too obvious to ignore. I do appreciate the response however I don't believe that is what happened. She had asked where I parted it and parted it in that spot prior to cutting. I also moved my part to the middle and still have the difference in length. Today was my first time at Phia. I was looking for a new hair stylist to fix my not so cute mushroomy bob and touch up my color. I have extremely thick hair with curls and can never seem to find someone who knows what to do with my hair. When I called the salon they recommended Andrew and wow am I glad I went with him. Not only did he give me the best haircut (for once in my life looks like the inspo pics I had), but he spent a lot of time to understand my hair and what I want, made great suggestions and the attention to detail while he was cutting my hair was like nothing I have ever seen. He also showed me how to style it which I very much appreciated. The salon is very cute and the prices were extremely reasonable. This was my first time at Phia salon. It was a nice atmosphere, but I think it's very overpriced. I've gotten multiple haircuts and color done from other salons and it's easily $80-90 cheaper. It's nice that they tell you the price upfront, but I think the services themselves are just overpriced. I also didn't love how at the end of the service they take you and try to get you to buy products. They show you all the products they used on you and put them by the register so you feel kind of weird. I am so grateful for my experience at Phia with Autumn. She worked magic on me and is great at what she specializes in. I had "banding" and my color was not near where I wanted it to be. It was blotchy and uneven. I've been trying to get my hair fixed and had gotten it colored 3 times to fix the banding for a total of probably 12 hours in the chair prior to seeing Autumn. Within 3 hours she made me feel like a new person. Plus she's super friendly and I enjoyed talking to her. I think she's going to be a stylist to the stars or something one day! I just found my perfect-match salon in Columbus! Phew! Moved here from out of state a little over a year ago. After flying home a couple times to see my incredible stylist in LA, COVID hit & flying has been less desirable. I tried a Cbus salon in July and ended up regretting that choice. Today - I tried Rachael at PHIA and I am thrilled! I knew from the moment she touched my hair that I was in good hands. She asked detailed questions, took her time, paid attention to the details, and saved my color she knows how to do a natural nightlight without strong lines of demarcation. She is lovely and listens. Out here in a business so searched Yelp for a great salon for a haircut. I came across Phia and was impressed by the talent Phia has. The hair colors that were achieved in client pictures were so beautiful and vibrant. I called and scheduled an appointment and was scheduled with Stevyn. When I arrived I was greeted by the front receptionist and was asked to fill out a questionnaire of sorts. It was really detailed in asking what kind of salon experience I would like and what my concerns were. I was then taken back by Stevyn who was charming and peppy. We sat down and went over the style I wanted and as apart of Phia's process they also recommend a second option breaking down the price for both. I went with my initial style, A-Line Bob. Stevyn mentioned my haircut came with a complimentary scalp massage, mini facial or hand treatment. I went with the scalp massage. Stevyn was very knowledgeable and suggested products for the concerns I had with my hair. I was happy with my cut and the service provided. I also purchased the two products he recommends and was also given an Aveda bag with extra goodies such as a hand lotion, coupons for free services. I really like the attention to detail and extra amenities they offer. It's a shame I will not be getting my hair cut here again as I live in California, but should I be back in Columbus I will definitely make it a must to get my hair cut here again. Here are quotes: "I can't guarantee you perfect results, because first time appt is like dating. I can try." Okay, well, if you can't get satisfactory results, I expect you to try to fix it since I'm paying for the service. "I didn't know you didn't know how to park. There's an option for not knowing how to park prior to the appointment. You should have checked that." She also spoke really fast - seems like I was being interrogated at rather than cared for. I can't say enough about this place. Rania & her over the moon nice assistant were absolutely amazing. I had the worst two toned hair before the appointment. It has been over a year since I've had color in my hair. My roots were dark and my tips where bright blonde. My wedding is less than a week a way. Raina came to my rescue! She texted me a few days before my appointment to get an idea what I wanted and the state of my hair. We went over what was realistic in the short time I had. Her balayage skills are amazing. She was able to squeeze me in for one more session in a couple of days to get it to the level I wanted! The staff was super nice. Very helpful! Being a first time client I received a bag of goodies! I won't lie, I'm probably not a typical salon kind of client. I don't often do much with my hair and I don't know all of the terms that frequent salon-goers know. I just knew I needed a change so I made an appointment with Marisa because a friend recommended her. Marisa asked me not just about my hair but also about myself and my beauty routines. I didn't realize it til later, but she wasn't just making chit-chat, she was getting to know what was important to me and she was considering what was something I would be likely to want to replicate on my own. She never tried to talk me into something unrealistic for me, nor did she make me feel dumb for not owning styling tools she asked about. I'd been afraid to look silly in the midst of a professional, but Marisa was completely reassuring! Marisa used that information to suggest something that was outside my comfort zone but totally doable for my hair styling abilities (which are admittedly minimal). This was my first time in a professional salon setting (I typically go to a cheap chain to get a quick cut), but Marisa explained every step and she never made me feel stupid when I asked questions. She kept me feeling comfortable in the salon and I always felt like her priority. When my hair was done, I was kind of in shock; it was something I never would have thought to request, but I hadn't even made it out the door before receiving compliments! Walking to my car made me feel like someone in a hair commercial and pictures sent to friends via text all brought about praise! I walked in with no clue what I wanted and I walked out feeling like a better version of myself, which was what Marisa figured out that I'd wanted by asking great questions and by listening to me. Bottom Line/ tl;dr: You can go to Marisa to get the exact thing you want (if you are already an expert on your own hair) or you can go to Marisa to get something better than you could have even thought to ask for... what's important is that you go to Marisa!
