"Jerk" chicken, plantains, rice
Randy S.

Absolutely awful Jamaican food, and absolutely awful food period. Really glad we drove from Greensboro down to Tanger Outlets in Mebane for this hot garbage. I went for the jerk chicken because I love spicy food and a true jerk is really blazing hot. This was just a plain baked chicken thigh and when she handed it to me I just stared at it. She realized it was supposed to be "jerk chicken", pulled it back and poured sauce over it from a bottle, and that ain't jerk chicken, just a jerk move. The sauce had zero heat and the chicken was completely plain otherwise. The sides were rice & bean and fried plantains. The plantains were burnt to the point of being inedible and stone cold. The rice was so hard and crunchy that I wasn't even sure it had been cooked, but since there were some soft grains in the middle of the pile, it was obviously cooked then microwaved to an untimely death to reheat it. It had no flavor at all except for a little bit from jerk sauce that had dribbled off the chicken.

Jerkaque Chicken served with rice and beans and sweet plantains

For Food Truck Rodeo Tuesday I decided to try Virgil's Jamaica. I went with the Jerkaque Chicken served with rice and beans and for my side the fried sweet plantains. I thought this was a good choice since the sauce was a mix of jerk and sweet barbeque sauce so it was not spicy. I got there right when it started so I was disappointed to hear that they were already sold out of Coco bread. $8 for a meal that filled me up is not bad for a food truck and the line moved quickly so that was a plus. Unfortunately the chicken was flavorless and a bit dry and there were not many beans in the rice. As far as the plantains went, the smaller ones were fried to a crisp but the larger ones were cooked well and tasted delicious. I was glad that I tried Virgil's but would probably opt for a different truck next time.

We decided to try their Jerk Chicken plate today on their stop at Tanger outlets . I was super disappointed that their food was below sub par and the wait time was about 25 minutes to get it. For $8 we had a single chicken thigh thats hard as rock and one sweet plantain . Rice and beans were plain bad . I loved the sauce that coated the chicken and it was the only best part of the entire plate .

Virgil was super nice and food looked and smelled delicious. Chicken and curry sauce was awesome. Plantains were not very sweet and rice was a tad on the crunchy side.

Good food. I expected a little cheaper from a food truck. 8$ plate 2$ for the bread. The bread was tough I would skip it next time. Jerk chicken with rice and beans plus a side of plantains everything was up to par.

Curry Chicken, Plantains, Coco Bread.....all of it very flavorful and amazing

The meat really did taste as if it was refried or the grease was old. Definitely wasn't fresh. The macaroni and cheese was just noodles and cheese, no flavor. The yams were stringy. The turkey collards were the only thing I enjoyed. The "cake" was honestly a mini portion of a store bought pound cake. I felt totally ripped off when I could've dinned in elsewhere for a completely different experience for $30. The staff was very nonchalant when I introduced myself as a first time customer asking for suggestions. There aren't many designated soul food places in Raleigh and I feel like this is totally a missed opportunity and it's unfortunate because I drove almost 30 min each way just for them.

I kept seeing their fliers all around my job, so I decided to give them a shot. I have been craving…read morecandied yams for quite some time & I never got the kind I loved...with the syrup...sweet and delicious!!! I have finally got what I needed here!!! Their candied yams are DELICIOUS. I actually got their food 2 days in a row. Lol. The wingettes were not really fresh the first night & neither were the shrimp. I let that go because the yams made up for it. The second night I got a fish sandwich. It was fresh. My son liked their Mac-n-cheese. I will definitely go back!
