I moved away from Redding and recently came back to visit. I went in for a manicure and let's say I was disappointed. It seems VIP has been under new ownership for a while. For my manicure - I did not get a hand massage. The buff tool that was used was not new AND it was digging into my cuticles which hurt. NONE of the tools I used seemed new/sanitized. The cuticle pusher had stuff on it and the tech was grabbing (what I assume was used) tools from under his desk. The water used to soak my hands was cold. The buffer was so worn out and rough, I flinched and pulled back as I was getting my nails buffed out. I did not even get cuticle oil or anything. There was no ventilation either. The polish I picked out was so old it was in a glob and the tech had to add some thinner to it Maybe I'm just spoiled with the nail salons in Orange County where I am from. I will have to say that the main guy everyone goes there for his nails look nice. I saw all the girls who got their nails done walk out with nice shapes and designs. Sadly, my acrylic days have been retired for quite some time. read more

I went in about 2 weeks ago with my friend we were both from out of town and wanted to have a girls day. we picked this spot because of the ratings and had such a good time. A couple did our nails and they were so funny and friendly. they did such a good job on my nails. I have been back at work and a full time mom and they haven't even budged. He's a true artist and was able to complete exactly what I wanted and more. It was an amazing experience watching him work on my nails and seeing the intricacy in his work. I used to come here many years ago and just started to again. They have changed hands in the last few years and I have to say, the quality of their work has improved! No shade to the last owners, but the techs who work here now clearly like what they do and are super fun! I've now had my dip manicures done by both Michael and kat and each time I leave very satisfied. My nails are healthier than they have been in a very long time. Kat did my manicure this time and she paid super close attention to detail and trimmed up my cuticles as well, which is something I usually have to ask for. She is super friendly and funny too! From the outside, VIP nails looks like nothing fancy. They're located in an older part of town that's due for a little facelift. But, don't let that fool you! The interior of the salon is well updated, decorated, and clean. This is a busy family ran business, and they were able to accommodate a few appointments with short notice for us. We arrived on time with no wait and we're serviced right away. What I appreciated the most about this salon was that regardless of how busy they were, they took their time and didn't rush us out. Nothing is worse than treating yourself to a pedicure and being rushed out of there. We were able to relax and enjoy the massage chairs while we received our pedicures. The took their time painting my toes to make sure they were clean and looked professional. With the $45 deluxe package, we received aromatic scrubs, water additives, additional lotions massaged into the skin, hot towels... the entire works! Overall, the service here was great and the prices were very reasonable. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Redding! read more

As far as for the quality of work my nails were great. The price was very reasonable. Outside of it taking 3 hours service was good. At 11am called made reservations for two mani/pedi at 2:00. Was told to come at 2:30 because they had openings then. I got there on time and they asked if we could come back in an hour. I had an event at 4:30 so I was explained that's why I made the appointment. They got us started at 2:50. They did our pedicures and then the gentleman who was doing my pedi wasn't aware that I also wanted a manicure. My friend who was next to me got her manicure immediately after pedicure. I had to wait another 40 mins before someone could work on my manicure. Very inconvenient and I was late to my event. read more

Worst pedicure I've had in a long time. It started off rocky when he was mad I didn't want gel (asked me at least 4 times). My water was practically cold and when I asked him to make it warmer he added about 2 seconds worth of water and moved on. The worst of it was the actual pedicure. He VERY gently "scrubbed" my feet for maybe 30 seconds then rubbed my legs with lotion, rinsed them off and applied polish. He basically washed my feet and painted my toes which I could've done myself. Giving 2 stars because at least my nails look good. read more

They always do a spectacular job for both mani & pedi, and they're so friendly every single time I go in! If you treat them with respect, you will get respect back. They're very patient with me, as I usually bring my infant baby with me since I have no one to watch her, and they treat me like family. If my daughter starts to get fussy, they let me use their spare room to nurse and/or change her as needed-- and I always tip great because they're so accommodating.
