They do a great job. Prices are a little steep for what I've had done but the work is done well. If the prices were a little better on a couple of simple alterations I would have given them 5 stars. Update: I had them redo a hem and take in a tunic. It was a simple job. They charged me $110 for these alterations. I was shocked at the steep price for an easy alteration. Let's see if this post stays up. I have my doubts as to whether all the rave reviews are accurate, given my appalling experience. First of all, I grew up locally and respect small local businesses and I do not believe I have ever been so mistreated by a local business. I brought in my wedding dress for an alterations quote after reading Yelp reviews. they were initially nice - there was a young, new, sales guy. A lady with really long nails was called over to help me in to my delicate wedding dress, and to look at my dress, which is all very fine lace. I face the store, back to window, in dress. She starts grabbing the fabric rapidly behind me ( looking at back) and shooting off rapid fire Spanish to the other guy, as she is literally scratching me. I ask him, MULTIPLE TIMES, to ask her to be more gentle as the dress is a very delicate lace, besides, it hurt. She ignores him and continues to grab at me. Then they quote me $1200 for alterations. lol. absurd. No hard feelings, I leave a pair of pants to get a zipper done, take the dress and leave. The next day, I see a button is is hanging by a thread (the one she kept messing with) on the dress and I call the shop and they said, "Sorry, no problem, we'll fix it." "Okay, thank you." I said. Then the guy calls me hours later and says that he was not going to fix it as I just came in to make them fix my button. WHAT?????? SERIOUSLY??? I was stunned. As if someone is going to schlep a wedding dress out and go through that kind of hassle to fix a button. Um, please- doya know what weddings cost? Doya know what that dress alone cost?? Do you know how busy brides are in the month before their wedding? If you think a bride has time or inclination to pull a heist for button services, you need many years of therapy. I said that's nonsense, he argues - literally yelling at me- which was so weird, and I state I will post a complaint. Then he states he thinks I just came in to complain and get a button fixed. I feel like I am completely in the Twilight Zone, who are these people and what do they usually deal with??? I left them a pair of designer jeans- which by the way - a zipper there is $27 which is totally ridiculous - why would I ...oh forget it, they are just nuts. I was stunned at how rude the guy was, and requested to have his manager call me to explain what he was talking about. The manager never called me. (Oh another thing the guy said was that they watched the camera and did not see her tear my button. Seriously? First of all, a button tears with use, and it was not torn when I came in and the dress had only been tried on once in the store, and was protected in. Bridal bag. Second of all, I was NOT aware my dressing room was able to be seen on camera (!!!) and when I was out of the dressing room my back was two feet from the window with crazy nail chick behind me, all over my stuff moving quickly.) their camera is up front. So unless they are illegally filming people, they would not see it. And what craziness anyhow? You tore a button, say sorry, fix it. Don't call me aggressive and screaming with insane theories. it is a BUTTON, a button. These people are really scary crazy. What would have been a courtesy turned into a travesty of poor service. Seriously people? Worst. service. ever. Oh, by the way, I went to the most lovely tailor in Thousand Oaks, she is a doll and works from home on word of mouth only. My dress was totally overhauled and looked gorgeous, and the cost was $450. I would do your homework and find someone good who is genuine and polite, and does not gouge. *** I have now received a message from the manager saying I asked for $400 - LOL. again, what planet do these people come from? NUTS. That is an absolute untruth. It would make me angry if it was not so totally farfetched. They ripped my button, I asked - quite politely - that they fix it - they said yes, I said thank you - hung up - then my phone rang at which point I was a victim of an utter barrage of insane accusations and untruths. I strongly recommend not getting involved with these unstable individuals. They should have: 1) apologized, 2) fixed the button and 3) moved on. Even if the kid who runs the store is making up stories, the owners are so bad, they never had the courtesy to call the customer. I don't know what is wrong with this staff but it is very very wrong. Have you ever had the misfortune of interacting with a totally insane person who is belligerent and somewhat dangerous? that is what I feel like with this place. AVOID. read more

I have to say that Alberto is one of the best tailors I have ever used. I have been to VIP multiple times with several suits. The first suit I brought in was for a funeral. When Alberto found this out, he made sure the suit was ready the following day. Most recently, I brought my suit in to alter for my wedding. I am a pretty short and stalky but somehow he made the suit very flattering, which I didn't think was possible. He made this off rack suit look like it was made specifically for me...I even received multiple compliments throughout the night. The only thing VIP about this place is the price you'll pay. I had a suit tailored here recently. Would give 0 stars if possible for poor workmanship and customer service. Compared to other tailors, the prices are very expensive. But it's VIP right? Not exactly. As soon as I put my suit on my sister noticed one of the seams was open. There was no thread visible in the seam (back of jacket), as if a spot had been missed. As I had traveled across the US, I was stuck looking somewhat shabby for my event. When I returned with my jacket the owner Alberto offered to repair the seam, blaming it on the thread. I explained that in this case I paid for the job to be done right the first time and I would like a partial refund ($45 out of a total bill of $220) for the alteration which was incorrectly performed. Without pause, the owner refused, accused me of being dishonest, added that I could have gained weight (I'm 6'4" 190 for the last 5 years) and ripped the seam, and reiterated that he thought he did a great job. It's a problem with the thread he says. But you only use the best thread I ask. Of course, only the best thread he says. Other highlights: -During my initial appointment I waited and extra 20min while walk in customers were helped. Owner/tailor did not show up until halfway through my fitting -had to come back twice as initial alterations were wrong. Pants too long by a lot. And clearly assistant failed to spot open seam. My recommendation. Go to golden thimble in spite of the odd hours. Or go to the place next to whole foods. Dont waste your time and money here. read more

Decided to visit their store after seeing the 100% 5-star ratings on Yelp, and I had a great experience with VIP Alterations. I called on a Sunday afternoon when they were closed, but they told me to come on in and the owner (Alberto) spent nearly an hour with me pinning up 7 dress shirts that needed to be taken in for a better, athletic fit. They dropped what they were doing on a day off to make it convenient for me as a customer. He had me try on every shirt and took the time to explain how he felt the fit of each one could be improved. Most of the shirts just needed darts added (which all turned out great), but two of them (Banana Republic/Gap button down) also needed to have the sleeves slightly shortened. The quality of the work is excellent, and the prices seemed fair. I dropped off 7 shirts on a Sunday afternoon and picked up the completed shirts 8 business days later. Their Thousand Oaks shop (right next to FedEx Kinkos on TO Blvd.) is easy to find, and you can park right on the street in front. I'll go back again soon to do some other alterations on my other dress shirts. Highly recommend you check them out. read more
