For starters, I stayed at this hotel during the Virginia governors housing conference, as this was…read moreone of the most convenient hotels in terms of location. However, I should've compared rates, because the host hotel, hotel Roanoke, a historic and beautiful hotel, was surprisingly almost $100 cheaper than this location. Not sure how they could justify charging $269 for something that was decidedly a value hotel experience, is beyond me, but anyway. Check in was rough to say the least. I was on a multiple room reservation and the young lady. checking in Couldn't figure out how to take my credit card for one room and not release the reservations for the others, so I ended up having to put my card down for both rooms. Only to find out later that they charged me for one full night the next morning, even though I was told I would only be charged a $50 deposit!! When I went back downstairs to have it fixed, the young lady couldn't explain why the charge for one full night was applied to my card when we weren't even due to check out for another two days!!! So I would definitely advise checking your card upon leaving this hotel to make sure you were billed correctly, especially at the inflated rate. Overall, the hotel is fairly new and in pretty good condition. The rooms were suitable but could've been cleaned better. There was several areas, including the small sofa, and the bathroom counter. where long straight hair had been left or not properly cleaned. They do serve a decent continental buffet style breakfast and there is a Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts located in the parking lot, so I guess that's one advantage, but ultimately, I would likely look for somewhere else to stay the next time I visit.

All-in-all, this Hampton Inn & Suites didn't live up to the experiences I've had at other Hampton Inns. The property seems run down and grungy. I almost didn't want to sit on the sofa in our room. It was nasty. The walls were pretty thin as well. I heard conversations from both sides of your room. The location is excellent! You can walk to a number of restaurants and bars in downtown Roanoke. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful. I'll probably try somewhere else next time, though.

It must have been updated recently and it came with an air purifier/white noise machine that kept the room fresh and made sleeping a joy. I have never slept better in a hotel! Staff was great...housekeeping, bar/restaurant staff, bell staff, valets...everyone was a true service professional. I loved the 1882 Bar and stopped there every night for a drink (see separate review). The convenience to downtown is also a plus. Although I did eat a couple of meals at the hotel, the skybridge to downtown makes access to more stores, restaurants and entertainment options very easy. Access from the highway is ridiculously simple and it's only 10 minutes to the airport. We will definitely stay here again.

Both restaurants are really good. Had breakfast, drinks and dinner and they all were enjoyed. Negative Parking. Parking is far from where you need to go, long walk to get to lobby. If it is raining plan on being soaked through. I suppose trying to get you to use the valet. Also, need to scan room key to leave, and when I did, the gate at the other exit opened? Had to back out and go through the whole thing again Train a train runs by the entrance to the hotel, seem to come by every 30 minutes at night, so enjoy that. Customer service. Not very accommodating or helpful. App says gym closed at 11:59, so had dinner, did some work then got to the gym around 945. About 10 or so came in and told me I had to go, gym closed at 10. Showed them the app but didn't care, said they were told it closed at 10 and showed me a sign on the door someone had taped there with hours from 6-10. Complained but essentially told me to go F myself. That doesn't happen at a 5 star hotel. Pretty expensive for a sub par experience. Look elsewhere

Cocktail sauce was particularly tasty. We also had Devils on Horseback and they were soooo good. I love dates any way but wrap them in bacon and stuff with goat cheese???? Yes, please. We finished up with crab dipped stuffed mushrooms. Again, just outstanding. Oh...and my Smore's Old Fashioned was really good too. The toasted marshmallow and the caramel coconut rim were perfect. We had a server in training and both our servers were very attentive and friendly. I can't recall what cocktail we ordered but it was delicious. For dinner, we ordered the Khachapuri and the Japanese Tsukene Meatballs. They only had 2 main entrees but everything else was more small plates. The Meatballs were delicious. They were full of flavor and moist. The Khachapuri was also good but the bread was stuck to the parchment paper it was baked on pretty hard. In my opinion, it needed a touch of garlic but still good. It was nice to drop by for a little to have some cocktails but wish there was more on the menu.

Despite Do Not Disturb signs and verbally telling the front desk not to enter, hotel staff accessed our rooms multiple times without permission. In my room and another family member's room, the TV remote had been swapped or tampered with. In another room, a wedding ring was stolen, and a police report was filed. A letter about "artwork installation" was slipped under our doors--but only after rooms were already entered. Even after we asked in person for no one to enter, staff came in again. This hotel showed no respect for privacy or safety. We felt violated and completely ignored. Avoid staying here until they take accountability and change their practices.

When we arrived at the hotel one of the staff members, Guilherme G., informed me that reservation agents are unable to make those kinds of reservations because they were unaware of the hotel's current capacity and there was nothing he could do to help us because the hotel was completely booked. So why are we required to make reservations through a reservation agent when we call the hotel? In my case, it was a waste of time and a total disappointment. I ended up with my family separated, half on one end of the second floor and the other half on the other side. We didn't have a good experience at all.

Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. Shortly before our stay, the general manager, Anthony, called to inform us that the hotel had overbooked rooms and could not honor our reservation. While I understand that mistakes can happen, what was most frustrating was the lack of flexibility or effort to make the situation right. We were forced to stay at a different hotel, and it ended up costing us more than the reservation we had already booked and paid for. This was part of our family vacation, and instead of a smooth trip, we were left scrambling to make alternate arrangements and paying extra because of an error that was completely outside of our control. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt other travelers should know about it. Loyal customers who book in good faith should not be displaced because of overbooking, and they certainly should not end up paying more as a result. I hope management takes a serious look at how situations like this are handled in the future. We've enjoyed staying at Home2 Suites in the past, but this experience has made us reconsider where we'll stay on future trips.

The location is not only by the airport, but also walking distance from the mall and chain restaurants. The lot was clean and had a decent snout of Diamond parking which I appreciate. The signage was tidy as was the landscaping. Check in was delightful with friendly and helpful staff. Warm cookies could be grabbed from their cookie jar and so yummy after coming off the road. A gentleman was mopping and cleaning the lobby upon arrival which I value. Everything looked slick and span. The digital key did not work and was reset. My status was recognized and water, plus free parking. The room was prepared for my arrival. All supplies necessary for the bath were on hand. Things looked fresh and recently renovated. The bath tub had a non slip material on the bottom and shower was extremely powerful. I used the TV and fridge. The alarm clock had multiple electronic jacks which was great. My only complaint on accommodations was the temperature control. I had trouble keeping it cool with a censor being the possible issue. It was not overall that big of a deal, but frustrating. Breakfast was ok, they had the standard chow and it was clean. The coffee station is nearby the check in counter. Coffee and tea were good. No water, but the front desk was happy to provide water bottles. Check out was done online. I was satisfied with my three day stay and would absolutely return to this property.
