Bugs, cigarette butts, syringes, filth, etc. You can have it all. Absolutely worst motel ever. Scary to a newcomer.

For starters, I stayed at this hotel during the Virginia governors housing conference, as this was…read moreone of the most convenient hotels in terms of location. However, I should've compared rates, because the host hotel, hotel Roanoke, a historic and beautiful hotel, was surprisingly almost $100 cheaper than this location. Not sure how they could justify charging $269 for something that was decidedly a value hotel experience, is beyond me, but anyway. Check in was rough to say the least. I was on a multiple room reservation and the young lady. checking in Couldn't figure out how to take my credit card for one room and not release the reservations for the others, so I ended up having to put my card down for both rooms. Only to find out later that they charged me for one full night the next morning, even though I was told I would only be charged a $50 deposit!! When I went back downstairs to have it fixed, the young lady couldn't explain why the charge for one full night was applied to my card when we weren't even due to check out for another two days!!! So I would definitely advise checking your card upon leaving this hotel to make sure you were billed correctly, especially at the inflated rate. Overall, the hotel is fairly new and in pretty good condition. The rooms were suitable but could've been cleaned better. There was several areas, including the small sofa, and the bathroom counter. where long straight hair had been left or not properly cleaned. They do serve a decent continental buffet style breakfast and there is a Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts located in the parking lot, so I guess that's one advantage, but ultimately, I would likely look for somewhere else to stay the next time I visit.

All-in-all, this Hampton Inn & Suites didn't live up to the experiences I've had at other Hampton Inns. The property seems run down and grungy. I almost didn't want to sit on the sofa in our room. It was nasty. The walls were pretty thin as well. I heard conversations from both sides of your room. The location is excellent! You can walk to a number of restaurants and bars in downtown Roanoke. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful. I'll probably try somewhere else next time, though.

It must have been updated recently and it came with an air purifier/white noise machine that kept the room fresh and made sleeping a joy. I have never slept better in a hotel! Staff was great...housekeeping, bar/restaurant staff, bell staff, valets...everyone was a true service professional. I loved the 1882 Bar and stopped there every night for a drink (see separate review). The convenience to downtown is also a plus. Although I did eat a couple of meals at the hotel, the skybridge to downtown makes access to more stores, restaurants and entertainment options very easy. Access from the highway is ridiculously simple and it's only 10 minutes to the airport. We will definitely stay here again.

They provided food and snacks for the conference and the snacks were the best , go figure.... I also used the spa while I was there and enjoyed the service. Cocktail sauce was particularly tasty. We also had Devils on Horseback and they were soooo good. I love dates any way but wrap them in bacon and stuff with goat cheese???? Yes, please. We finished up with crab dipped stuffed mushrooms. Again, just outstanding. Oh...and my Smore's Old Fashioned was really good too. The toasted marshmallow and the caramel coconut rim were perfect. There are a handful of two top tables, a couple lounging areas, and then there are some high tops but not too much seating. They adieu have the bar seats as well. We had a server in training and both our servers were very attentive and friendly. I can't recall what cocktail we ordered but it was delicious. For dinner, we ordered the Khachapuri and the Japanese Tsukene Meatballs. They only had 2 main entrees but everything else was more small plates. The Meatballs were delicious. They were full of flavor and moist. The Khachapuri was also good but the bread was stuck to the parchment paper it was baked on pretty hard. In my opinion, it needed a touch of garlic but still good. It was nice to drop by for a little to have some cocktails but wish there was more on the menu.

I have stayed at lots of all inclusive resorts and this room was by far the prettiest and most comfortable. The attention to detail starting from the restaurant to the furniture boutique and upstairs to the hotel is amazing! We dined in the restaurant and had outstanding service from Caroline and the food was equally as outstanding. The menu is chock full of creative and interesting flavors and food combinations. We ordered 5 appetizers to share and loved every single one of them. Again, be open minded because this menu truly is creative. The furniture boutique has stunning pieces of Scandinavian/MCM style furniture all locally made in Roanoke with some serious attention to craftsmanship. These same items can be found upstairs in the boutique hotel. It was fun that you are allowed to have a glass of wine and chill in the lobby area next to the restaurant which is oh-so-comfortably decorated in their gorgeous furniture. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful my room was. It was decorated so stylishly with absolutely not a touch of elegance overlooked. Stunning lighting fixtures, gorgeous textures, a comfortable sitting area, and lovely pieces of wooden furniture. The hardwood floors are simply to die for. They were my favorite part of the room. The bed was the single most comfortable bed I have ever stayed on in a hotel setting. It was like sleeping on a cloud surrounded in a hug from fairy wings. There is a communal area with snacks, couches and other places to gather or entertain a group. I really really really hope all future guests do their part to keep this place beautiful so that it remains a luxurious place to stay in the heart of downtown Roanoke. What an absolute gem. It feels like a betrayal to the amazing people who put their heart and soul into this hotel and restaurant to have a complaint. However, if I had one tiny suggestion to make, please put a table or a shelf or something in the bathroom. There is literally zero place to spread out toiletries and makeup. I used a towel on the floor to spread out my makeup in the morning. Not really a deal-breaker, but it's just a suggestion. And also to patrons, bring a hair dryer if you are going to use one. I did not find one in the room, but perhaps it was in a drawer or tucked away someplace I did not happen to see. Also, bring a sleep mask. This was definitely more on the light and bright side of hotel rooms, so morning came a bit earlier than I was expecting.

All the history and nostalgia in the building is palpable as soon as you walk in and take the beautiful wood spiral staircase to the second floor. There is an elevator also. The historic brass fire poles are still in existence, along with the creaky hardwood floors and georgous exposed brick. We stayed in room 6. Beautiful room with all the furniture from the Nordic furniture shop downstairs. Very tempting to buy a couch from the showroom downstairs! We ate at the restaurant, Stock downstairs. It was amazing, but keep in mind it is directly below room 6 and they don't close until around 11pm on the weekends and they stay about an hour after that to clean up. So you still may hear music and them moving chairs around while they clean up. We also stayed on a Friday night and some skateboarders decided to practice in the parking garage next door around 11:30 at night, but you are staying in the city so you have to expect things like that. Bathroom is beautiful with great water pressure in the shower. There is also a huge area to hang out in on the second floor if you need more space. If you like non-traditional hotel experiences, then add this one to your bucket list. 10-4!

If you aren't able to walk a couple blocks for the parking, this hotel is not for you. If you plan to walk around the wide array of Restaurants, shops and bars, it's great. The hotel lobby doubles as The Vault restaurant which on our most recent stay would've been a hassle for any hotel guests who thought they would relax in the lobby as it was Restaurant Week and they were totally booked and using all tables. However, it worked out extremely well for value and was on point with every metric. Plus renovated since my last stay. The location is not only by the airport, but also walking distance from the mall and chain restaurants. The lot was clean and had a decent snout of Diamond parking which I appreciate. The signage was tidy as was the landscaping. Check in was delightful with friendly and helpful staff. Warm cookies could be grabbed from their cookie jar and so yummy after coming off the road. A gentleman was mopping and cleaning the lobby upon arrival which I value. Everything looked slick and span. The digital key did not work and was reset. My status was recognized and water, plus free parking. The room was prepared for my arrival. All supplies necessary for the bath were on hand. Things looked fresh and recently renovated. The bath tub had a non slip material on the bottom and shower was extremely powerful. I used the TV and fridge. The alarm clock had multiple electronic jacks which was great. My only complaint on accommodations was the temperature control. I had trouble keeping it cool with a censor being the possible issue. It was not overall that big of a deal, but frustrating. Breakfast was ok, they had the standard chow and it was clean. The coffee station is nearby the check in counter. Coffee and tea were good. No water, but the front desk was happy to provide water bottles. Check out was done online. I was satisfied with my three day stay and would absolutely return to this property.
