The Lodge was so comfortable and hosts, David and Ginger McDonald, were so friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect respite from a tiresome and anxiety filled week of packing for a move. I slept like a baby in a bed so comfy I wanted to take it home. Although it was rainy and the fog kept us from exploring outdoors the warm ambiance inside the lodge and time spent with family made this a sweet and memorable experience. The lodge has been there for quite a while but David and Ginger, the new owners, are determined to make it a haven for guests and a destination for the area. They went out of their way to welcome us...even offering to drive down the mountain thru heavy fog to pick up our dinner we ordered! Totally unexpected and certainly above and beyond the duty of a host! Loved it! Can't wait to find an excuse to visit again.

The reception space was beautiful with tons of space, good food, good accommodations, and a good time was had by all. It was very convenient to go from the rooms to the reception without ever leaving the building! The suites were spacious, clean, & well-appointed, with comfortable beds & nice linens. The sofa beds were made up as requested, with a bottle of anniversary champagne for our son & daughter-in-law. We had also asked for a microwave (not standard in the hotel), but we did not get one. We had 5 grandchildren who really wanted a popcorn party after a brief appearance at the wedding reception, so I was a bit disappointed. However, before we returned to the room with the children, a microwave had arrived with a kind note from Gloria (Guest Services Manager)...she had gone to a store & purchased a microwave for our use! Talk about great customer service! And on that note, my multiple email and phone conversations with Madelyn & Candace (Guest Services) were absolutely of the highest caliber of customer service I have ever experienced! They were always so polite, friendly, professional, and beyond helpful...no matter how many questions I asked! I cannot remember who I asked about breakfast (sorry ladies), but one of these 2 awesome employees arranged for complimentary coffee & pastries for all of us who were visiting for the wedding, as the restaurant had just opened that week, but was closed the Monday morning after the wedding. Madelyn & Gloria were both very helpful with issues after I booked & cancelled through Expedia, then reserved directly through the hotel for a better rate. One final note-it was super cool how the old bank had been transformed & repurposed into this wonderful space, and the kids loved exploring & checking out the vaults! VT Inn is a great find and I am hesitant to expose this gem!…read more If you are looking for a place to stay this isn't your typical hotel and has all the loved Blacksburg charm - VT Inn is your spot. It is a perfect B&B just off campus and a couple blocks from downtown. We were there on an off weekend and had the entire house to ourselves. Eric, the inn keeper, is great - on arrival he showed us the house amenities and gave us a full tour. He asked what time we would like breakfast each morning and over our two night stay were treated to made to order omeletsand stuffed strawberry french toast. Both meals were supplemented with some wonderful baked goods made Eric's mom! There is something great about waking up in a comfortable bed in a place that feels like home to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast - this is just an all around winner for me! The only item that I saw as an issue and it is really more of an FYI - the upper floor of the house shares a single bathroom. The original thought around this B&B is that 10+ who all know each other would rent the house, making sharing a non-issue.

The inn is conveniently located to shopping, restaurants and site seeing. Some within walking distance and some just a short drive. The Inn is quaint, the beds comfortable (we stayed in the Queen Victoria Room) and our breakfast was delicious! I would highly recommend staying at the King George Inn.

My family & I were there for almost 6 months- the first few months we were there the property managers were very friendly, and helpful. The rooms are equipped with a small kitchen, it reminds me of a studio apartment. During our stay there several different altercations took place on the premises between other people who were staying there and management. Drugs are VERY prevalent at this establishment, and are effecting the way this business is being ran. There is a noticeable change in the management and the way things are being done at this establishment. The rooms are not being cleaned well, and there are roaches in several of the rooms. During our stay there we were given linen upon check in- never again after that. There were burn holes & stains on the flat sheets we were given. The mattresses were gross, no mattress protector- I had to purchase my own. We were given tissues on occasion, but never toilet paper or other essentials that most motels would provide and are included in the room rates. There is no housekeeping on a day to day basis. The cleaning supplies that are provided, such as a vacuum or carpet cleaner are not cleaned and covered in filth. The washer & dryers that are paid for do not work, and the ones that are there for use of the property managers are only used by a select few people who are allowed. There are SEVERAL dogs here. Most defaecate all over the parking lot, and on the walkway that is upstairs. Overall this was not a positive experience and I'd strongly encourage you to look elsewhere to stay if you are able. The drugs and attitudes run rampant there. The managers are delusional and make up their own rules, and ways to charge people for rooms. (Such as if two working men are staying in the same room, they both have to pay rent rate, it cannot just be one of them at one rate) the door locks are not secure & someone can easily card your door. There were several occasions people were entering rooms they had no business being in, or had not given notice to go into. Hope this gives some insight and someone finds it helpful!

Popular destinations include Washington, DC; New York; Baltimore; Concord Mills, in Charlotte, N.C.; Nashville; Pigeon Forge; Las Vegas; Orlando, Fla.; and even Alaska and Mackinaw Island, Mich. The primary pick-up sites are at the Walmart in Bonsack, or the Quality inn in Lynchburg, but other options are available if the demand is great enough on a particular tour. Abbott's $99 New York red-eye trips are my personal addiction. You leave Roanoke or destinations en route in the middle of the night and arrive in New York City Saturday morning to spend the day doing whatever you want. The return trip happens during the night as well, so you're back home by Sunday morning and ready for work on Monday. I've been on a dozen of these and it never really gets old. Service is old-fashioned and prompt, the way it should be. There is never a shortage of snacks or friendly tour guides on the buses, and often, there are movies shown and games played on the bus to pass the time. Some tours are self-guided while others are hosted. I can't say enough good things about Abbott Trailways. I've been a loyal customer for years, with no plans to stop anytime soon.

I didn't want to fill up before getting there with my big 5th wheel, but didn't consider that the campground is on top of a hill and the truck using way more diese driving up there! I was literally on fumes when I arrived. The guys from the campground got me a canister of diesel and didn't even wanted to charge me for it! "We're glad to help you out!" of course I paid for it, but it shows how nice and willing to help they are. Unfortunately the weather was cold and rainy, so we couldn't really enjoy the place. It is a bit messy when it's wet, because the spots are only gravel Would recommend it to everyone!

The first directional sign showed up about the time we thought that we might have passed it. Parking was a large level field just off the road and they had a shuttle (someone's personal car) taking patrons to the admission gate, which was just ;over the crest of the hill. Grounds are pretty and well-maintained. There was a large permanent structure for dining/shade and it looked like Floyd Country Store has a permanent structure there. Sound system was excellent. Use of natural slope for amphitheatre-like seating/sound very nice. Would be tickled to visit Chantilly again for another event. Bring shade if sitting for a long spell.

We learned how to make the Negroni cocktail and they took time to teach the flaming orange. Including a lot of interesting history and information about the spirits. The instruction on making the pizza and cocktail was so thorough that we felt like we really did something, while we learned in action. Worth the time and money. *they did ask if anyone is dry, but not sure what they offer in lieu of the cocktails or wine.

Ned provided us with great information about the history of the town, the railroad (although some of that was incorrect as he kept saying Raleigh instead of Norfolk as it pertained to the railroad and it kept saying that one of the railway companies "left" when in fact, they were merged. Maybe this wouldn't have mattered so much except someone in our group was very familiar with the railroad) But Ned was very personable and you could tell he loved history and as we do too we really enjoyed his tour. The food on the tour was fairly varied and unique to the town (a must!) and it was great to hear the back story of the ownership of the restaurants. (I was a little worried when at the first two restaurants we were served seafood dishes, a seafood bisque and shrimp and grits as one person in our group doesn't really like seafood and I think this is a risky choice for a tour. Also at Chocolate Paper we were given two mediocre Asher chocolates to try instead of some of their more expensive and more delicious Debrands chocolates.) One person in our group thought there wasn't enough food and thought another restaurant or two should be added. I tend to agree when compared to the cost of this tour against other tours I've taken. Had the cost been a little lower I think the amount of food would've been fine. All in all, a great tour though. Ned really was a great guide, I hope he leads more tours, I really learned a lot!
