Outdated technology and the system triggers false alarms. There is no way to prevent the fire department from showing up once a sensor is triggered. Vintage will call everybody on your call list, have multiple agents call you and still send the fire departments. The house panel, cell phone app and the agents who call you are not able to prevent the crew from showing up once a sensor is triggered. read more

Our system is only 2 months old..already the motion detector failed. We got home yesterday to the smoke alarm was beeping. 4 calls and 24 hours later (each call with a different "solution"), they told us they were coming out today, but cancelled and rescheduled for 4 days later. Because we can't sleep with the beeping I took the whole alarm off and took out the back-up batteries. Then, within 3 min the basement alarm went off (don't tell me BOTH sets of batteries died within 3 min of each other, and within 2 months of installing). Now we're being told they are really busy and won't come out for a week. At least they are nice and polite when they talk to you. But I'd rather have resolution. read more

We had a system installed in July 2018. Less than a year later the control panel failed. I was told we were outside the 90 day warranty period and the repair would be over $500. Very disappointing combination of low quality materials and poor customer support. read more

Vintage security installed their equipment during the construction process of our home. We thought it was good to have when we first signed the contract but now we wished we would have gone with another company or just installed a security system by ourselves. Here are some of our issues: -the video doorbell keeps getting turned off. Even with the motion sensitivity turned all the way down, it gets triggered often over nothing. The real problem with that is that our allowable amount of storage for saved videos fills up overnight. When the amount of storage is reached or exceeded, Vintage refuses to record anymore for a set time period after the storage is cleared out. I just don't have time to delete 100 videos every morning when I wake up or when I come home. The app doesn't allow for easy deletion either, you have to select the videos one by one. Basically, our video doorbell is useless and we've given up at recording anything. - customer support is not the best. During the build, we requested a monitor panel by the front door so we could easily turn the system on and off. I guess the protocol in my neighborhood was to install the panel on the lower level by the garage. When we requested the panel by the front door, we were blown off by a representative with an email response simply saying "most people just get it on the lower level since that's where it's needed most." Our lower level is another bedroom and we don't go in or out through the garage. So once again, it's difficult to use the system. We can use our phones to turn on and off using the app. However, we often have guests and it's not ok for everyone to bother the person staying on the lower level to turn the system on and off. I truly wish I had take. A harder stance on this issue and not let them just blow me off like that. Also, the app doesn't allow for multiple users. So unless I give a guest my login info for the app, they can't use the app to turn the system on and off. I'm pretty sure our guests don't want to download an app just to access our home anyway. -five year contract!!!! I tried to get out of my contract because the system isn't functional for us at all. However when I called, I was told I had to pay them over $1500 to buy out of our contract. I'm sure this system works for some. But it doesn't work at all for us and we're basically forced to pay for something that we don't use (but would like to if it actually worked for us). I would highly recommend not signing on for Vintage services until they make a better effort to improve their products and services. read more

Sales rep did not discuss a 5 year agreement but it is a 5 year agreement that you apparently can't even break when you move to another house. What BS! Now I have to pay hundreds of dollars because I am moving so I can get out of the agreement since I can't take it with me. What a joke! read more

Very overpriced service that yields little in the way of customer support. When it comes time to cancel/renew agreements beware as they will stall and delay before actually doing anything to cancel your account, resulting in headaches and frustration. Horrible customer service! We were forced to use them to wire our house and NOTHING works correctly. Verizon had to properly wire our phones and Comcast had to rewire our whole house after paid VIntage to do all that and install a Video Distribution module. When I called Vintage to tell them the module doesn't work they blamed Comcast and Verizon and told me if I needed a new one I would have to pay for it because we just passed our warranty!!! It took us that long to figure out where the problem was coming from. There was no apology or offer to make it right - we spent thousands of dollars with them and are left with a house that doesn't have working TVs or Internet. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! read more

I thought this was a decent company up until recently. I've been a customer for not even a year. In that time we've had two hardware issues. . . The same exact piece of hardware. The first time they came out and fixed it without question. This last time they wanted to charge me for both the service call and the faulty piece of equipment. So not only am i paying the monthly monitoring fee, but now i need to take a day off of work, wait for them to show up, and pay them to replace their faulty equipment. Again, same piece of equipment has failed twice in less than a year and I'm supposed to pay to have it fixed. If you're going to use this company, factor in the price of at least one service call per year plus time of of work, plus the cost of at least one failed component. For that price, I'm better off going with one of the larger companies. Sad service from a local company. I'd prefer to support local but only if they support their customers. read more

05/01/19 Malfunctioning touchscreen panel going haywire hitting buttons onto access code over and over. Since three years ago with this updated touchscreen, the technician "fixed" it by telling us to only use the Alarm.com App and not the panel itself. Three years ago, we went on vacation and this system completely shut off for two weeks of our vacation. We came back in the dead of the morning with this alarm going off unable to access the blackout panels. Now the same touchscreen is trigger happy and the technician can't command it to shut up. And it's always during those darn billable weekend times. This equipment is faulty. We haven't used this touchscreen since advised by the first technician to just use the app. I can use the app, but the panel itself is overriding what I command on the app. And they want to have the service department call me on Monday to discuss my options. I'm not paying for your faulty equipment, this panel should have been fixed/replaced the first time. read more

The bad reviews on Yelp are all true. My parents referred me to Vintage when I first moved to DC because that was the only system they have ever used. Without researching other security companies, I blindly made an appointment to set up my account-- a major mistake on my part. The set up was quick. They sold me their system and service under a 5 year contract where they offered a maintenance service at a premium. The serviceman who set up my system said the premium was for service calls which I probably wouldn't need because my equipment was brand new and that there was no way that the equipment would fail within my 5 year contract. So I declined the maintenance premium. Man was I naïve. Little did I know, I would pay the consequence... Less than 2 and a half years later, the living room motion detector decides to malfunction at 2am. This triggers a series of piercing beeps that forces anyone with functional auditory faculties to frantically wake up to see what intruder must be breaking in. TWO AM, prime REM time, my precious beauty sleep for godsake! But no, my sleep was not interrupted by my heroic alarm warning me about an intruder. It woke me up for no reason at all. It was feeling a little neglected and wanted some attention. So I poked it a few times to make the beeping stop and tossed and turned for 4 hours until the alarm system decided that it didn't get enough attention the first time. Vintage security system decided to beep AGAIN at 6am, for NO reason at all but to piss me off. Some would call it an attention whore, others would say Vintage sold me a crap system. I conclude it is a crap system. But that wasn't even the worst part.... I proceed to call customer service because I could not deal with another frustrating night fending off their attention-seeking w**** of an alarm system. I was put through to two different people and finally met Paul. Good old Paul told me that the service workers do not get in until 8am and would call me then to set up an appointment that fits their schedule. It was either I play hookie from work to get home at 3pm or I would have to wait until April 23rd, 5 days later, to have someone look at the equipment. Only after I said I would have to stay at a hotel for 5 nights did they accommodate my schedule to come after work at 5pm. So at 5pm Guy the serviceman, really nice guy, comes to look at my machine and informs me that this trip was billable. BILLABLE. So I have to pay for them to fix their faulty equipment? I call Paul and Paul says "With anything you buy there are going to be problems. If you buy a phone or a car there are going to be issues and you have to pay to fix them." Well Paul, yes there will be problems but there are problems the manufacturer must fix and there are problems a customer must fix. If I get into a car crash or if I drop my phone, I would certainly pay for this to be fixed. But if a car can no longer drive or if a phone can no longer make phone calls within the first few years of purchase that means there is a manufacturing issue and the company should pay for that. Vintage security disagrees with that logic and is still charging me to get this fixed. If a car stops driving, why would I pay to fix it? It would most likely malfunction again and I would have to deal with your pathetic excuse for customer service again. Any logical person would look for a more reliable car with better customer service. And that is what I am going to do. So long Vintage Security! I will gladly pay $700 for the remainder of my contract and get better service elsewhere. read more

The only thing that's five star about this company is it's sales staff - after the purchase it's downhill. This company partners with new developers and becomes a part of the options process but I would suggest you look at some other companies that have better service, price and equipment and without a 5 year contract that can only be broken if you pay 50% of the remaining balance for the services that you either don't use or won't get. My husband and I currently have a security system and security cameras and a maintenance contract with Vintage Security/Alarm.com. Tuesday, April 3, 2018, my front porch camera went out. I call to have someone come out and service the camera. When I called Tuesday regarding the camera outage, they stated that the camera could not be serviced until Saturday, April 7, 2018. Not having the ability to monitor my property for 5 days is a problem. I called back and spoke with a "Brandy, a supervisor," or was told that she was a supervisor. After having a conversation with Brandy, she stated that a technician would come Thursday between the hours of 3-5. I confirmed this morning, 4/5/18, that a technician would be out today between 3-5. At approximately 5:30 pm, I called to find out the status of the technician. An after-hours representative stated that the office was closed and he would have someone call me. After waiting, I called back. The after-hours representative had Wes Saylor call. Mr. Saylor indicated that I DID NOT have an appointment for today, but Thursday. Based on the information that Mr. Saylor provided, Brandy "lied" about having someone come service my camera on 3/5/18. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORD. @Charles G. Your response does not address the fax that I was told a Technician would come before Saturday. Vintage will not admit that Brandy told me a technician would come Thursday. Representative arrived at my residence, sat down and immediately started on prices and plans. She took no initiative to walk around my home inside and out which would have provided her with a more accurate assessment t of what type of system would keep my home secure. It was all high pressure sales. And she noticed a Vector Security business card and flat out said she could beat their price. At that point I cut my loss and showed her the door. Vector representative took more time, walked around my property as well as every room and made appropriate suggestions. We discussed the most efficient way to secure my home and made a plan. Very professional. A far cry from the Vintage huckster who was basically an order taker. read more

I have had Vintage Security since 2003. When I moved in 2013, I had them install their wireless system in my new house as well. While the alarm system in my old house was wired (ie, a landline was needed), I switched to 100% wireless when I moved. I'm substantially paying more for the wireless system on a monthly basis than I used to but the reliability and customer service has been so great that I've been a satisfied customer for the last 15 years. read more

I have been with Vintage Security for years. In Oct 2016 my four control pads starting showing gibberish. I called Vintage and they informed me that it was one of two problems either the main panel or the control pads. They put in a new main panel for $400. Well that didn't fix the problem. So I got to pay another $200 for new control pads. Barely 30 days after the 90 day equipment warranty runs out, the main panel fails. I call Vintage up, and they inform me that their equipment warranty ran out, and that to repair it would be billable. If you are looking for security equipment for your home or business, I would recommend purchasing equipment from a manufacturer who makes quality equipment and puts a lengthy warranty behind it. There are plenty of companies that warrant their equipment for 3 years, and some companies even have lifetime warranties. Safeguarding your loved ones, home or business should not be left in the hands of a company that makes equipment that barely gets through their 90 day warranty--is it worth it??? read more

I recently moved into a home with the Vintage Security system. I called the company and asked them to come out and remove the system from the home. I wanted the control panel and motion detectors off the walls. They said there is a $130 fee, with an additional fee for the time. As a new home owner, and newly single parent, I cannot afford this rate. It is completely unacceptable that the company will not remove the system from the home. read more

Just purchased a home that was previously monitored by Vintage. After struggling to get a quote out of them to continue service, and reading other less than stellar reviews about their customer service we decided to move in another direction. A call to their service department to hand over the "keys" to the alarm system proved a complete waste of time. They point blank refused to reset the system, giving one poor excuse after another. In the end a manager offered to schedule a "billable" service call to have this done. Something they had previously told me they could do remotely in a couple of minutes. This little game of "we are going to hold your system ransom" has just made sure that I will never consider Vintage again. Anyone that has the audacity to hold a system that they do not own ransom, in the hopes of winning business is just irritating potential customers and fully needs to review their customer service and business practices! We have had Vintage for over 7 years--mostly because of inertia. Do you know how long it takes to install a security system? I avoid it like the black death. Let it be known, I've never missed a payment. Before you sign up with them, please know, Vintage calls itself a local business, but don't be fooled. Their monitoring service is farmed out to alarm.com and all "real" alarms are routed through an enormous call center. This is nowhere the "locally-owned" business model I want to support. Additionally, you have to know that Vintage doesn't call when you accidentally set off the alarm, saying that it needs to be going off for more than 30 seconds before they'll call to check on you. Seems to me that I'm paying for them to call, regardless of whether it's a false or actual alarm, and that IF it's a false alarm, resolving the call will take 30 seconds. A lot of danger--probably most of it--can be had in 30 seconds if it's a real break-in. Now to the complaint which forced me to sever our business relationship: Recently they sent us a letter in which they advise that they need to install "a new security cellular unit" because 2G service is being discontinued and 3G will be the industry standard. There appeared to be no charge associated with the "upgrade" (everything in quotes is taken directly from their letter) since it is a policy decision made by the FCC. When I called, Chrissie said that they would pay the labor, but the $99 fee was mine to pay. I balked, noting that such tactics as sending a letter which implies a free swap-out of hardware and then smacking the customer with a fee are known as bait and switch. She reduced the fee *magically* to $50. I told her I'd get back to her after some research. When I called back to ask to discontinue my service, Jamie told me after placing me on a quick hold that they would do the service at no cost, out of "good will". It was then that I knew I had been a long-term customer of a shoddy business model. Hell, they never even call when the alarm goes off, remember. Needless to say, I cancelled my service, and should've done so a long, long time ago. Save yourself the hassle and go with an enormous company which guarantees a call EVERY time and which won't nickel and dime you for hardware upgrades. A company that truly cares for its customer base would make such servicing free in the first place--it shouldn't take a savvy customer to call them on their shoddy business practices for them to reduce the service to zero. read more

I have Vintage security for a year. While the service is good. If you miss a payment , they will have your sales representative contact you and email you until they get you. They will not call your home. I am very dissatisfied that a company would do that.( This is what the Billing department is for ) Also don't bank on any promotions to be given. They do not have good service dept. It's always issue about their tech staff available to come out to site to fix the problem. Twice it happened that tech comes out to replace battery and forgets to reattach the siren which he disconnects while testing the system after battery change. On call tech says he will charge $140 to come out and check, eventhough it's friday but they are closed. Tells me to wait till Monday and says its ok as atleast keypad is buzzing..... Then why do i need siren if keypad buzzing is ok????? I have their system at my businesses and residence but getting it changed to "Ackerman" as have heard great reviews about them. read more

We have been with this company for more years than we can remember. Every time we have had to have adjustments made due to some home improvements, Vintage has quickly and reasonably completed them. Every employee we have had contact with has been professional, friendly, and very helpful. False alarms have been handled quickly and courteously. In fact, the only time we had difficulty with false-alarm responses was when we briefly used another national and cheaper company. When we wanted to upgrade our 30 year old system, Vintage was able to add on what we wanted at substantial savings by using good parts of our old system. We will always use Vintage for any of our security needs and are considering them for other services. read more

We bought a new house and inherited an extensive alarm system, with a high monthly monitoring cost. Since we weren't bound by the existing contract, I spoke with five alarm companies before choosing Vintage. They installed bridge hardware that made use of the existing system but with their box and low monitoring costs (they were the lowest of the five). The service has been excellent. They responded promptly to a false alarm, billing has been accurate with no hidden fees, and they are easy to get ahold of and along with. Would highly recommend them as an alternative to the big alarm cos. read more

The other day a clean cut young man came to my gate and said he was from Vintage security. He did not introduce me by his name,just that he was from vintage. I had never heard of the company. He proceeded to tell me several people in my neighbor hood had signed contracts with him for a camera security system and that the installation was free if I signed a contract TODAY because it was being paid for by the "community" and he was working with the police dept.!! When asked what it would cost me a month he said between $50.00 or $60.00 a month. I asked "which is it, 50 or 60?? he said "let's call it 60." I asked him for a business card and a brochure of information. He would not even show me a brochure. He had no business card and would only give me a brochure if I signed a contract for service!! Sorry, but this did not exactly fill me with confidence or safety about the business. I sent him on his way. Maybe he was legitimate, maybe not. If he was legitimate I suggest Vintage security personnel train their "door to door" sales people a little better to give them more credibility and at least a business card and some sort of brochure. This "strong arm" approach is not very reassuring neither does it build any kind of confidence or credibility with the company. By the way, he never did give me his name or a contact number even when I asked. read more

I have had Vintage Security since December 2015. I have been very pleased with the sales and services. I have had the same Tech guy to my house and he's been very good. The billing department has been awesome to me. The equipment has been terrific! I would highly recommend and I do recommend to everyone! They have the state of the art equipment and services. The sales lady did not tell me that the contract I signed was for 3 yrs. When I asked the sales lady if I could cancel at anytime she told me I could for a small disconnection fee under the impression that I was paying for the system not monitoring. Then a few days later when I was reviewing the contract terms and conditions is when I noticed that I ended up signing for a 3 yrs contract for monitoring which I did not want or need. I immediately contacted the company they refused to cancel the contract because I signed agreeing to the terms and conditions. After disputing the issues with several sales reps. I finally spoke to the Residential General Manager for the area who agreed to have our contract cancelled as long as I agreed to pay a $450 wiring fee. I would later find out that the $450 wiring in fee is really not a fee for wiring but a cancelation fee for canceling the 3 yr contract. Pay close attention to what the sales representatives tell you, stick to what you want do not allow them to sale you something you do not want or for that matter need that is how the sales representatives make their commission is of getting you to sign 3 to 5 yrs monitoring contracts that are ridiculously outrageous in price and not worth the money. read more
