While this vineyard wasn't quite as glamorous or mind-blowing as some of the other ones I visited, it still ended up being a pretty good experience. The main tasting room is on the smaller side, but it wasn't too busy when I visited so there was plenty of seating. They also had a TV playing the World Cup, which was a nice bonus. There was only one person working that day so he definitely had his hands full. I did have to go up to the counter whenever I was ready to try my next wine, but it actually gave me an opportunity to interact with some of the other guests and spend a little more time exploring the property. The outdoor area was really cute with a small stream running through the property and a designated photo-op area. I also noticed a second building that looked like it could be rented out for parties or weddings, which would be a nice option for events. But let's talk about the wine! My tasting consisted mostly of reds, with the Cabernet Franc being the personal standout for me. Honestly all of the reds were pretty good and the only wine I tried that I didn't particularly care for was the white. For the price point and the convenience of not having to drive all the way out to Fredericksburg, Spicewood Vineyard struck the perfect balance for me for a weekend winery outing. It may not have been the most impressive vineyard of the day, but it was still a fun and worthwhile stop.

Their location isn't near the cluster of wineries between JC and F'burg, so it's missed by many. During our Advance Texas Wine Ambassador class Pebble Rock was mention several times. So the next we decided to stop by see what we'd been missing. They advertise by appointment only, we didn't have an appointment but decide to take our chances. Turns out we were able to slip into an empty slot between two other tasting. Rob and Lydia (husband and wife owners) were very welcoming and we started our tasting immediately. Rob shared his knowledge of Texas wines for about 45 minutes. We walked away with some of Rob's great insight on his wines as well as the surrounding wine country. It's a very intimate tasting in warm setting; nothing like the BIG tasting rooms being shared by 100+ people in a very commercial setting! We picked up a bottle of their 2021 Teroldego after tasting their making of this relative new grape to Texas wines.

Robert and Lydia are the couple that owns Pebble Rock and they have a great story from their origins to how Pebble Rock began. The wine tasting came with seven pours of all Texas grown and made wines. All were pretty good and Robert had great knowledge and history of the grapes in the region. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a tasting was around $25, which was great and a good sendoff to a fun-packed day of wine tastings.

Mr. Crowson (the father of Henry Crowson - the owner and winemaker, who might be a co-owner but is definitely very involved at the winery) welcome us in for a wine tasting. Since we were the only people there, it ended up being a very private, personal experience! Mr. Crowson tried the wines with us and talked to us about each. He also told us about the Crowson's non-interventionist approach to winemaking. If you enjoy or are interested in natural wine, low/no intervention wine, orange wine, or any other term that's being used right now, Crowson should definitely be on your list for a day or weekend of wine tasting in the 290/Fredericksburg/Johnson City area! (I am a fan of the low/no intervention movement, and I knew I wanted to visit Crowson when we were in the area! It's the most natural/low-intervention of all wineries in the area that I am aware of!) The wines we tasted were interesting and delicious and varied (not a tasting where all the wines take remarkably similar). The space is charming, beautiful, and very comfortable, and Mr. Crowson played some great records during our visit which added even more fun to the experience! And of course, the customer service couldn't get better than a personal tasting with Mr. Crowson, who made this a very special visit. This is a smaller winery, so I recommend you reach out to them to schedule a visit, so you can be sure they are there and open. Because you don't want to a miss a visit to this very special winery.

What an amazing little winery!…read more We are visiting Austin for a month and wanted to do something fun for my boyfriends' birthday. Crowson came highly recommended from our friend who lives in Austin, so we made a reservation for 6 people on a Saturday for a wine tasting. They are taking Covid precautions, everything was socially distanced, our tasting was outside (and thankfully they had heaters so we were quite nice and warm), and everyone was wearing masks! The wine was absolutely delicious and we all loved the wine we had here. One of only two places in Texas that has natural wines (nothing added). This is a very cozy, homey, winery- they make you feel so welcome, are very gracious and just a fun time ! Henry and his dad were a delight. Highly recommend this place!

We got a wine tasting and got a sparkling wine followed by a white and two reds. The two reds were a syrah and pinot noir. Of course with Sonoma you have to have some burgundian fruit and the pinot noir was very nice. The campus is really nice with a texan-rustic vibe and some handmade stone carvings to peer out to. THE FINAL BAMBOO: A wine tasting was around $20 and all were delicious. Will be back when I have an itch for California wines.

The tasting room has been open for about four months, but owner and winemaker, Gary Hahne, has been making wine for a lifetime. Gary is a Texas Hill Country Native and his family roots date back to his great grandparents who immigrated to the Stonewall area from Germany. His parents were close friends to LBJ and Lady Bird. The Hahne surname in German translates to the English word rooster, which ties to the colorful rooster found on the winery's logo. There is no tasting fee to sample the four dry wines, and one sweet Sangria style wine on the tasting menu. Each bottle of wine tells a different story of the Hahne family and the surrounding hill country. As you sip and savor the flavor of the well balanced, delicious, palatable wines. You can walk around the winery and enjoy the historic pictures of the Hahne family, and hear about the family and area history. I had the great pleasure of being able to talk with Gary himself about his amazing family heritage. I enjoyed all of the five wines. My favorite was a bold; well balanced, red blend (Tempranillo, Cab Sauv, and Nero D'Avola) entitled Texas Tapestry. I also loved the Texas styled Chianti appropriately named Texanti. This was a softer red, fruit forward, but well balanced with lingering notes. I also very much enjoyed the dry rose that is named after Gary's grandfather, Opa. The Viognier blend was also surprisingly good, with interesting peach like notes. My visit here was delightful, and I hope to return soon. Gary is passionate about making quality wine to enjoy with us, and to pass down his story to be remembered for years to come.

Stopped in here on a whim during my last visit to Johnson City and I'm so glad I did. This small…read morewine shop packs a lot of character into its space, with a strong sense of history, friendly service and even better wine. I'm a sucker for rosé, so I ordered a glass and it ended up being one of the best I've had from a Texas winery. The person behind the bar took the time to share the winery's backstory, which I always appreciate, and even let me pick out a record to play while I enjoyed my wine. The whole experience felt laid-back, personal and genuinely relaxing. I'll definitely be back and next time, I'm leaving with a bottle of that rosé.
