This is a little piece of heaven for a constant traveler who loathes the Russian Roulette of airport food. Cozy seating and ambience for an airport spot. Friendly staff who seem to know what they're talking about. I just love the bit of class this place offers with tasty treats that come in half sizes if you're not too hungry. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is that those half sizes were surprisingly on the small side...I was hoping for New York City quality without the price tag. Overall, definitely a must stop for someone trying to bide their 2 hour layover with ease. read more

Great spot at the Detroit airport! Made my layover very enjoyable. The staff was very helpful when choosing a glass of wine. Would def stop here again when passing through! read more

These are terrific spots to hide out in while on a long layover in an airport. I recently was able to enjoy the solitude of Vino Volo in Detroit's Macnamera Terminal. I was greeted within minutes of seating myself, and ordered the truffle mac and cheese. Clearly this is reheated in the back, it is some of the better food available in an airport. The portion size is very small (they are small plates), so I waited and ordered the roasted tomato soup drizzles with creme fraiche. This too was very good. The 4 stars is not so much for the food, but for the whole package. The attentiveness of the server, the food quality (for an airport), and the wine recommendations that paired perfectly with my small plates. If you have never been to a vino volo, make sure to check one out. read more

Simple, nice and relaxing. Nothing crazy just good. I like the selection of wines and the fact that you can order wine tasting plates for a nice price. I really enjoyed my white wines samples! I'm not sure about the food. The smoked salmon crostini's were delicious but the lamb meatballs kinda tough. Service was okay. read more

Nice surprise for our lay over. Food was delicious and great wine for a reasonable price. read more

Stopped in today due to a delayed flight. Thankful now for that delay! The staff are delightful, discussing wines back & forth. Very friendly, cheerful & restful place. Lovely wine list with good prices (my tasting flight for 3 wines was $14), especially for an airport. Would love to come back & try the food next time I'm passing through. read more

As good as it gets in an American airport. Great wines selections and tasty small plates. Don't waste your time with anything else in DTW (or any other American airport for that matter!). If you download their app you can get tastes of some unique wines for a good price. Nice ambiance, especially for an airport. Reminds me of some of the better airports abroad that know how to do it. read more

Decent small plates for the size of the operation. Prepare to pay$$$ for you wine and snack. It is however, a wine lovers oasis. Some good bottles on the wall to take with you too! Service? It's ok! They are usually knowledgeable about what they are pouring. Better than any other airport bar! I check them out in Boston, San Antonio etc as well. Find them. Make your trip enjoyable. Winetime is anytime! read more

Lots of great single or couple traveler seating. Tons of snack options to choose from all in a smaller and larger portion. A whole sandwich should fill up most hungries. I have tried nearly all of the menu items. I like a half Brie sandwich with almonds. I can fill up, have a glass or two of wine and still be under per diem. read more

This place is great! Layovers in Detroit will be so much more fun now that I know this place exists. Wine prices are reasonable and the service is great. I had a flight, the charcuterie board and chocolate cake. The wine was great (of course), and the charcuterie board was impressive. Much better than I anticipated! The bread was toasted perfectly, I always hate when places over toast the bread so it rips the roof of your mouth. The ingredients seemed like they were good quality, too. The chocolate cake was super rich and divine. My server even brought me a little bit of a porter they serve to have with it. It was awesome! read more

Such a calm, relaxing spot in the airport. And right next to the massage place. Great selection of wines from around the world. The char board comes with 3 cheeses and 3 meats, with dried apricots, cranberries, nuts, jam and pickles. A great place to relax. read more

Really? In the Detroit airport? I feel so sorry for all those people walking by and just looking in. This tapas bar belongs in a high end city location! Yelpers got it right and I'm so proud, lol. Service was fast and friendly. Food was scrumptious and served in style. read more

My wife and I agree. Vino- Volo Wine Bar is a keeper. We had a 3 hour lay over to connect to our next flight. We had 2 different flights of red wines. The selections were beyond expectation. We added a tray of cheese and cured meat with relishes and crisp toast. YUM! We added an order of the salmon rolls. Another YUM! Vino Volo is tiny with seating for around 40 guests at tables and the bar. The atmosphere is relaxed and service is attentive but a bit over worked at times. The location near Gate A40 is central and makes for easy access when making connections. read more

Nice place to be for a drink and a bite to eat before flights. They have the comfy chair which is hard to find in airports. Also the food is good as well as the selection of wine. Don't expect a full range of wine selection but you will find its better, way better than standard airport affair. The lamb meatballs are dry, so if you have high expectation don't do it. The cheese board does deliver. I like the fact they use the good fig jam from Croatia which is my fav. Happy traveling! read more

First of all, after reading the reviews on this page I thought this place had beer, but apparently they only have wine. That was ok, but I was just under the impression, due to the info on this page that they had beer too. Whatever. I felt really out of place when I walked in this wine shop, but felt better about myself when I saw the more-well-off-than-me woman sitting at a table with her shoes off and feet up on one of the chairs. Ummm, ok. Classy. I had a glass of red wine and some cheese. I was surprised they had food, so that was cool. I like to eat something when I'm drinking, especially before going on a plane. The music was sort of awful, but the bar staff was really cool and laid back and the wine and cheese was yummy. I only wish I had had longer than 30 minutes to kill so I could've tried some other wines. I saw someone having a wine sampling, but I didn't have time to try any of those. Maybe next time. Overall, cool place. Never thought I'd see a place like that in an airport. read more

I try to stop into Vino Volo every time i am in DTW. Sadly its not open at 6am for that early flight to Atlanta. That aside this a treasure within the Airport. The 3 wine selection taster is great. The staff usually pretty knowledgeable & whilst i don't usually eat the few times i have everything is good.If you are a frequent flyer & love wine, check it out. read more

Stopped here for a drink before my flight back home. This was your standard airport bar. They had a standard bar and a mixture of cocktails on their menu. Their food menu was limited, not palace you would go specifically for food, but had good finger foods to snack on while drinking. The bar area was quite small and there were a lot of people there. Live music was playing which gave it a nice touch. If you are looking for a more intimate, quite, replacing bar then this is not the place for you. It was quite loud and right by the area where you come in through security. I ordered a martini and it was good. Nothing special but it was tasty. The prices were your standard overpriced airport drink price. Overall, I would not return. I found a better bar Cat Cora's down the terminal which I would highly recommend. read more

Worst service ever, the waiter (think his name was Chris- was the guy with the dreads) ignored me and wouldn't even give me water when I asked. He chatted up everyone else and was attentative to everyone but me. I was only able to order dessert when I flagged the other waiter down, unfortunately he had left for the night not too long after so I got no service at all after his departure. I regret giving a tip and don't plan on ever going back. read more

Well if you like the staff to steal your credit card or lay victim to identity theft please visit Vino Volo! (a.k.a. Taste, Inc.) I stopped here on a connection and accidentally left my card when leaving. When I arrived at my destination I realized that I left my card there contacted the staff and they stated they still had my card and would destroy it. I was really surprised to get a call from AMEX a few days later when someone was using that card across Canada. Clearly the card was not destroyed and was stolen by the staff. Thanks VIno Volo! What was even more saddening and scary is when I contacted the manager about this his response was "Really?" and acting as though they did nothing wrong. What was even more disturbing is when contacting the HQ of Taste, Inc. that owns Vino Volo is that the Executives there deny any wrong doing. I tried contacting Doug Tomlinson, CEO, and spoke with Chris Simmons but they were of no help. For the sake of your identity theft sake, so not visit Vino Volo, or use cash. read more

So bizarre to be sitting in an airport wine bar at least in this country right? I see from their menu that they've also got one at JFK (home airport) which leads me to believe that, finally, air travel may be shifting to a more civilized experience for us masses, even in spite of the egregious events that lead up to getting on this side of security! Nice work whoever you are who came up with this idea. Thanks for providing simple but significant improvements to an otherwise necessary evil: air travel. The menu is appropriately small tastes, food with suggested wine pairings, in a space that likely seems quick turnover (who really lingers at an airport much? Well, of course, in a place like Detroit's airport, designed as a hub for transferring from regional mid-western cities to international destinations, probably a lot of travellers spend significant time here, so it makes sense in that way), and the wine is not at all adventurous, but is instead surprisingly well selected. Nice job, I say. read more

Love this place. I had a 2 hour delay, and wandered past. Hallelujah! A decent glass of wine and some tasty food! I got one of the wine flights, and it was great. Your get to taste 4 different wines for about $13 bucks. I also had a bowl of chickpea chorizo chili, and it was really tasty. Comfy, clean, upscale environment was a welcome refuge from the loud poorly run places you usually encounter in airports. Not cheap, but certainly no more than you would pay for the same service downtown in a major city. Very nice place to relax. read more

I had a longer layover than expected this past week so I stopped in for a tasting. I had the white wine flight which included a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite, very fruity and smooth. I liked the Pinot Grigio the second best and lastly the Chardonnay. I'm usually a Chardonnay girl but this one was a little too dry for my liking. I also had half a chicken sandwich and the cheese platter which was delish! Met some other really nice ladies at the tasting as well. The tasting, a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc and my food was 32 bucks which isn't bad especially for an airport. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as well. read more

What a treasure! Vino Volo has great food and, of course, wine. The samplers are your best bet, since you get three healthy glasses to try out. If you particularly like any one of the three you can buy a bottle right there, or just get another glass. read more

I recently ventured in to this place while traveling. I love wine but I am always hesitant to buy wine by myself, afraid im not going to pronounce something properly.... but this was a welcome change!! I did the Red Harvest Flight, and really enjoyed the attentive service of the staff, very welcoming, NOT pushy!! they recommended a few wines I might enjoy based off the red harvest flight and they were dead on. I also enjoyed the three cheese penne pasta with truffle oil, so much better than what im used to eating while traveling. I found this place perfect to plug my lap top in, do some work while enjoying some great wine!! Im excited to go back. read more

The food was excellent but the service was absolutely horrible. I walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and received no acknowledgement...even after making eye contact with the two that were on staff. Another lady walked in and got serviced right away because she was a regular. I finally had someone come to my table to take my order. I ordered five salmon rolls and only received 3. They brought the other 2 later after I reminded them that I ordered 5. I ordered dessert and I'm still waiting for it 30 minutes later. No apologies and no communication. It's a shame because I really enjoyed my meal. read more

It's a cute place, but I ended up with a gnat in my wine. I wasn't there for more than 20 minutes. That's totally frustrating and for such comfy seats, that's an awful experience. I didn't do a flight, but was disappointed with what could be considered the house red. read more
