First, to make getting here simple, this is the bar and lounge at the Sheraton…read more Here I was, staying at the Residence Inn and thinking, "Gosh, I really don't fell like cooking after this looongg day!" I decided to check out the bar/lounge at the nearby Sheraton and have to say, no wonder Marriott decided to buy these guys! They have great beers on tap and great food. I had the sliders and the Santorini salad, which has fried artichokes on it. The sliders were great. Straight up beef patties on a brioche-like bun. No filler, slightly thin, but still tastes great and beefy. Just what I wanted. The Santorini salad is about twice as big as I thought it would be for $9. I really liked the greens which included butter, red, iceberg and romaine lettuces. It also had goat cheese, olives and fried artichoke hearts. Yum, but I couldn't finish it. Since I'm at the Res Inn I just took the rest with me. I also had the Blond ales on tap. Their big deal is supposed to be the wine selection, but the beer selection is very good. Perfect for slider night! Full, refreshed and ready for he long plane rides home tomorrow.

The food and service here are really good, and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Located in the lobby of the Sheraton, you almost miss it because it is so quiet. The ambiance is a little dark but not really dark - so perfect for relaxing. There is an unobtrusive TV above the bar for sports enthusiasts, but it is quiet to allow for conversation. The food ranges from quite good to really, really good. The bruschetta is distinct and fantastic. The mixture is served separately from the crustini, ensuring that the bread doesn't get soggy. And it has little pieces of fresh mozzarella in it to add even more freshness! Their fried mozzarella is also quite good, clearly freshly made. A friend had their salad and got blackened salad on it and really enjoyed it. They are happy to customize orders, whether that be food or drink. And they are happy to make drinks extra strong, so that's never a bad thing!

There's little going on in this area, with zero shops or other restaurants nearby. Park on the side street, it's fine. We went there for a special occasion. Make that reservation, you'll need it. Empty tables don't exist for more than a few minutes, and they are packed in. Servers are laid back, knowledgeable, and friendly. Not in the "corporate wants me to smile", but genuine. I think the employees like working here! The food was amazing. If you want to pair the wine, ask for a suggestion. I'm so glad we did, both the red and the white wines we had complemented the food perfectly. The menu changes regularly, so what we ordered likely won't be available next week. Except the bread - I rarely eat any bread, but I'm glad I did this evening. Tables are small, but so are the plates. Share your food, there's just too many good things to try. And yes, even dessert was amazing. Dress up or not, doesn't matter. Anything goes. A sport coat is fine, but so are sweaters and sneakers. Entrance is a really plain door on the side, not at all where we expected it to be - and with very little indication of where it was. Top twenty of meals I've ever had, and probably in the top five I've ever had in Detroit.

Vesper is a fun little spot in Core City. Want to have a drink while you peruse through their vast…read moreselection of cookbooks and chef oriented literature. Their food menu is mostly lighter dishes, and while I didn't eat anything, I did watch them bring out the mussels to the couple next to me and they looked really amazing. While I was there I got a chance to meet and talk to the owners and they were really nice and attentive. They have a nice drink menu with a wide choice of wine (obviously) but also some interesting liquor and beer options. Their cocktail program is actually quite unique. If you want to buy bottles though, I think this is where they excel, because they have some really nice bottles available for sale, which of course you can drink on the spot, but they do charge a $20 corkage fee, which is why I knocked them down a star. I can understand if you're bringing your own bottle, but if you're buying the bottle there, I think it's kind of crazy to have that high of a fee. Just my opinion though. Other than that, the experience is great and definitely a great spot to go before or after dinner at Barda or Puma.
