Vinny's Cafe is a hidden gem. The neighborhood used to be old warehouses but those have been demolished. I have been going there for near 10 yrs now. A few years back they did an impressive remodel job. New since then is a wine room. The food is every bit as good or better than any place in Little Italy, Baltimore. The service is always good. Tony, the owner's son and the man running the show, always makes his rounds to the tables and talks to everyone. I'm a confessed beer snob and he's always trying to impress me with a new beer. Often he succeeds. I don't know a lot about wines but the list is pretty long. I know the sangria are tasty, The menu ranges from subs to pizza. What's an Italian place that doesn't?!? But it continues on including veal, seafood, etc. The specials vary so ask if they aren't mentioned. Spoiler alert: they are written on the board as you come in. Take a moment and read them. If you think you are a big eater, try the 30" pizza. Go ahead, I double-dog dare you!! I managed to eat 2 1/2 slices. P.S. the take home box would literally not fit in the back seat. We usually have a good experience here but, today the service was terrible. We were the only table in the entire restaurant and our food took almost an hour to come out and we sat for almost 30 minutes before our soups and salad came out. I've been here many times and with a full restaurant and have never had service this slow. read more

We love this place. My wife thinks the meatballs are awesome. I think all the food is good from seafood to pasta. They also make a great Manhattan. After coming from Jimmy's seafood next-door due to me not liking seafood/crab I thought Italian food would be a good place and maybe we can actually sit down and have dinner after driving eight hours from North Carolina. We were confused because the The hours said that they closed at nine however we drove in the parking lot. Went to the where the dining room place is. We were greeted with a sign that says go to the take out area for food. We saw people looking at us through the window with the look of oh no don't come in here. We were greeted by a lady behind a Covid shield with her arms crossed (body language says a lot) and we were confused on what to do because it look like a takeout place. You're a few other people eating dinner. The lady just said menu and that's all she said to us. I asked I'm not sure what we do here do we sit down or do we grab a menu or what do we do here. She repeated the same thing menu and had a frown on her face with her arm still crossed at this point I just said you know what this is not even worth it and left. Severely disappointed a because we didn't get any food and also because the customer service was pathetic here would not recommend it read more

We don't get to visit often, but when we do we wonder why it is so long between visits. Hands down, our favorite pizza in Baltimore. We moved here from NJ and the kids judge their pizza with the same seriousness that Marlyanders judge a crabcake! We have driven 40 minutes for Vinny's pizza. Staff is always welcoming and even gave directions over the phone when we were not sure of the way on our first visit. Most visits are take out but when we have eaten in we have always been on the take out side. Every time other customers are friendly and engaging which makes the experience even better. I have had plenty of Italian in my life...from a range of Little Italy all the way to the small local joints. Vinnie's is by far the best Italian food ever. The portions for the price is amazing. It starts from the great bread (pizza bread) to the apps and salads to the main entrees. The pasta dishes are so monstrous. (And the leftovers heat up we'll the next day). I could just bathe in the chicken Chesapeake sauce. Everything from the carry out cheesesteaks and pizza, to the full sit down dinner you will really enjoy yourself. I took a group of 40 classmates to Vinny's for our monthly lunch gathering today. What a wonderful place. Tony had our tables set up so nice and the waiters were friendly & knowledgeable. They went above & beyond getting our drinks & orders taken and out to the tables in a very timely fashion. Every single person in our group said they really enjoyed their food and want to come back. I would recommend going there for the pasta, delicious salads, pizza & one amazing meatball sub; pretty much anything on the menu. You won't be disappointed. Yummy! Recommended highly by BPD, so I decided to stop in for a large slice and salad. The slice had just the right amount of cheese, with perfect stability and a solid crunchy crust. Also important to mention that the pizza slice was presumably 2x the size of my head and/or equivalent to three slices of pizza. I really like Vinnies. We have had a couple of great meals there, and one not so great, but that was the first time, and I think they have had a change in chef. The wait staff is really attentive, however, I think they should be more forthcoming about recommending items on the menu. Such as 'I am thinking about these two, what do you think' was met with 'it depends on your taste.' Since I had never tried either item and hoped the waiter had, I was put off. My face must have showed that because he altered the response slightly to one was very heavy for lunch. I also think they should have a lunch menu with lunch specials and smaller portions. The specials appear to be all day specials. I had chicken piccatta, and my son had another pasta dish - both were amazing, and the pasta was really well made and delicious. I grew up in Dundalk and I love Vinnies! I just went on my birthday and it was nothing short of amazing! Calamari delicious!!!!!! Meatballs, mouthwatering! Pinot yummy of course! Lets see what else did we get...mozzarella caprese.. and a strawberry dessert that was unreal.. The waiter Alex is one of our favorites. I had the best time and everything was perfect! Vinny's was a light at the end of the rainbow after me and my friends were treated badly at Jimmy's Seafood. Management there Sucks. They are unpleasant, unaccommodating, and unwilling to go far and beyond to please their guest. At Vinny's we had a total opposite experience. I will never knock the food here. Everytime I've either eaten in or carried out, the food has always been top notch, but our last visit here left a bad taste in my mouth of a different kind. It was our intention to have mother's day dinner here, and my significant other made sure to check before hand if we'd need a reservation since mother's day is typically a busy day for restaurants. He was told that we would not need one, so my significant other, his mother, and I went down to the restaurant around 4pm. The place was packed, so we waited until someone came to the front so we could see when a table would be available. Not long after, the owner's son came out asking if he could offer anyone waiting a beverage. My significant other's mother asked if she could get a water, and the first thing out of his mouth was "do you have a reservation?" My significant other tells him he was told we wouldn't need one, and the owner's son proceeds to tell us they were only serving people in the dining room with reservations and that we would have to go to the carryout side to be served if we still wanted to eat with them. I was very dissappointed and frustrated, but I was hungry, so I reluctantly agreed we should eat on the other side. Not long after we sat, a white family of 4 or 5 people came in and sat and mentioned they were told it would be an hour wait to be seated in the dining room and since they didn't want to wait they came to the carryout side. After hearing this, I became very upset. I couldn't help but feel some racist undertones from the owner's son telling a black party that they cannot serve anyone without a reservation, but tell a white party that it's an hour wait. We ate our food, paid, and we will not be back. I've gotten some good service from some of the staff there. The owner's wife kindly served us our food, and one of the kitchen hands even helped bring my pizza to my car when I was 38 weeks pregnant, but I cannot forget or condone the racist treatment we experienced. read more

Carryout only review: I have been getting pizza carryout from Vinnie's for about two years now. The pizza is great, but that is all that I have ordered for myself. Their side salads are huge and good enough for a meal for a single person. The prices are fair and they are usually able to crank out a pizza for you in about 15 minutes. A group of 8 of us decided to eat here one Friday evening before going to a theatre production at a local community college. It was an excellent choice. We were able to make reservations which was nice. I liked the lay out of the dining area. It was very nicely decorated. We were early and found the bar area and talked to a server near the bar who ended up being our waiter. We ordered some glasses of wine and a beer and they were reasonably priced even without any Happy Hour specials going on at the time. We were shown to our table when the rest of our party arrived and started on the bread. It was as others have said very nicely done. The specials of the day were amazing. I ordered a dish that had the best scallops, shrimp and crab in a light delicate sauce. I don't like the heavy cream sauce or real tomatoey sauce. It was just right for me. Great choice. A little on the pricey side around $30 but it included a nice salad. I ordered another glass of wine ....a Reisling and told our waiter it wasn't as sweet as I liked and he made me a glass of wine. It was perfect. He would not tell me what it was. Others ordered the veal special which they enjoyed and also the shells were devoured. Most of us took home ma lot of food as the portions were huge. No problem as it was dinner for the next night. Our check for 8 was around $ 180 but it was worth it. The service was the best we have experienced for a while. They were very attentive and accomodating. I think the next time we are in the area we will try the pizza or the subs. It really is a gem of an Italian restaurant right off Dundalk Avenue. read more

My husband and I moved to Dundalk within the last year and have been trying out different places to eat in the area. He had been drooling over the menu for this place for awhile so tonight we went. First impression- the place is very crowded and loud. They have those tables packed in as tight as can be and there was a rather loud mediocre pianist playing and singing. He never seems to take breaks either. We didn't bother trying to converse because I would have to scream for my husband to even hear me. Not what I'm looking for in an actual restaurant. I thought about putting a 50 in the tip jar if the pianist would stop playing for half an hour but my husband said that would be in bad taste. When trying to flirt with my husband, I'm having to scream out provocative statements with a 4 year-old (around there I think anyway), sitting five feet away. He couldn't hear me (since my husband couldn't either and he was closer) but still weird. I keep worrying that it would be like a bad sitcom where I'm yelling something inappropriate and it got quiet all of a sudden. Service- fairly bad. We waited awhile to put in our drink order (we had already decided on dinner and had time to review the pianist). We ordered a mango sangria that we never got (but also were never charged for). Sad for them on the sangria- maybe if I'd been a little drunker I'd have enjoyed the food more. The waitress never checked on us once food had been dropped off to us. We got one refill on our drinks between courses but she didn't seem to notice me ignoring the soup I wasn't eating in front of me, so that was nice. The manager checked in with us at the end of the meal and actually refunded my meal price so that was good. Food- We ordered the mussels in a creamy pesto sauce as an appetizer. These were okay but the sauce had a weird aftertaste. We opted for the crab soup instead of a salad. This was a mistake. The soup was loaded with pepper. It tasted like very peppery vegetable soup. I could not taste crab at all. I ate maybe three bites and set it aside. For dinner, I ordered the seafood ravioli special. The sauce has a weird taste to it and the ravioli tasted really fishy. It was supposed to be four cheeses with crab and scallops in it. I couldn't taste anything but a strong fish taste. I may not have understood the special since it was so loud and hard to hear the waitress. It might be my fault. My husband ate more of it than I did. I was also turned off by it as my food came to the table lukewarm, fairly cold. For me to actually speak up and complain about a meal is very rare. The last time I can remember doing that was around 5 years ago and the reason I did that time was because the restaurant I was eating at had given me partially frozen (still had ice crystals on it) and the waitress actually stuck her fingers into the food to test how cold it was. That's my level of tolerance in most restaurants. My husband got the Salmon Alla Fabrizio. His food was steaming hot. In other words, the kitchen isn't good at pacing and didn't time the dishes to come out at anywhere near the same time. His food wasn't that bad. I liked the bacon taste. The scallops in his dish had absolutely no taste to them though. His food was far better than mine but still not good enough for me to return. At the end of the meal, the waitress, having been alerted to my dissatisfaction came out, apparently shocked and tried to offer us dessert. We declined and left. The mint that came with the check was tasty. Looking around the restaurant, most people got more standard fare so maybe if we'd just ordered chicken parm or spaghetti and meatballs it would have been good. The pizza also looked good. But, my standard for a restaurant is that any item on the menu is at least reasonably good tasting, especially for the price. My husband's meal was nearly 30 dollars and left us both underwhelmed. I've been going to Vinny's regularly since it opened. I have a long list of my favorites there. Their Marsala is the best anywhere. Most places make their Marsala creamy which really dulls the flavor, not Vinny's. The Picata is great too, they don't skimp on the capers. The pizza and subs are great. I can't find a better Italian cold cut anywhere in baltimore. I highly recommend the spinach with white sauce pizza. I always ask for extra garlic, it just makes it better. The service at Vinny's is great. If you have the time, go in during the off hours when it's not too busy and ask Tony what he recommends. He's made dozens of off menu dishes for me and I have to say every one was a winner. The eggplant rolitini in a rose cream sauce that he came up was fantastic. There's also an appetizer that's not on the menu that shouldn't be missed. It's a ball of fresh mozzarella stuffed with ricotta, sprinkled with salt and pepper and drizzled with balsamic vinegar served with bruschetta. For you salad people, Vinny's Greek and chef salads are amazing. They also make a Longshoreman's salad with roasted red peppers, feta, chicken and shrimp. I know it can be difficult, but save room for desert. Just say salted caramel and they will bring you something you will love. All in all Vinny's is a family place. It's family owned and run and they really make you feel like you're part of the family. read more

I'm always pleasantly surprised when I come here. Maybe I expect this place to suck because it's in Dundalk, and I am from Essex, a much posher and slightly better smelling part of the county. Portions are ginormous. For the sake of your health, you really should be taking home a doggy bag from this place. After living in the area far to long we stopped by Vinny's on a Friday night and were blown away! Alex was our waiter and he was great! We went with his recommendation and ordered a seafood dish that he thought up. It was pricey but worth every penny. So much seafood and it was a very large portion.
