Very quaint Italian restaurant. I love the Decour, the brick wall, tin ceiling and the Italian family pictures. The food was phenomenal. Garlic bread was so delicious I can't even begin to tell you how good it was... You just need to come here. Very authentic Italian food! We highly recommend. read more

Oh my!!! Best Spaghetti and Italian meatballs I have had in a very, very long time. The marinara sauce was the perfect combination and full of flavor. The garlic bread that comes with it...AHHmazing! Great atmosphere with Dino playing in the background. I will be back to try the pizza read more

I was here once, a really long time ago. My memory of the decor was a little hazy, but I thought the food was really tasty. Came back on Saturday night for date night. Got there about 5:30 and seated right away. Clare took fantastic care of us all night! She was bright, energetic, and has a great attitude. Now for the food...heavenly! Better than I remembered actually. Ravioli was fantastic, best ever. Also tried the seafood fettuccine and it was dynamite! We will be back soon! read more

We were at Vinny's June 20th. Our first time at the Iowa location. Our server was Alaina M. Who's customer service was OUTSTANDING !!! The food was just as good as the service. The atmosphere was great and our party of 4 was not rushed. I really have to give a big thumbs up to Alaina who made our night. I have been to a lot of restaurants I'm my 53 years but have never had a server like Alaina. Her smile was contagious as well as her personality. Great dinner: Bread and Salad/Auntie Gracie's Sausage Ragu/ spaghetti with meatballs and sausage/ lasagna read more

Great spot nice atmosphere, Friendly staff. Good food. I would return. Gluten free options.

I was staying at the Hotel Julien a block away, so I called for a carry out order. The woman on the phone was polite and my order was ready in 15 minutes. I wish she had reminded me that what I ordered was pretty spicy, more than I was expecting. I liked my food but a heads up would have been good, maybe I would have asked them to adjust the spice a little! read more

We've given this place several chances, and each time after our first visit 3 years ago, it disappoints. I can't believe that an Italian restaurant can't get their act together and make good Italian food. The food has been inconsistent each time. My daughter had the ravioli with cheese and the cheese tasted sweet and odd. My spaghetti with olive oil, basil and pepper has little to no flavor. My wife ordered pizza that came when the rest of us were done with our dinner. The waitress was kind and apologetic, and discounted $5 off our pizza ave offered us a free dessert to take home. We did- only to find a long brown hair in our dessert container. Mind boggling. Dubuque needs a real Italian restaurant so these guys can just close their doors. read more

Went for yet another trip to Vinnys for Italian food. Salad was good but the bread was different. Service was better than last time. Food was good. read more

Good atmosphere and character. Calamari was delicious, pasta and gravy was good. Overall decent Italian restaurant.

Really good food and service. The fried ravioli is amazing! The waiter was extremely helpful and was always attentive to us. The pizza is a little small for two people to share so I recommend having an appetizer with the pizza, but it was still very good. read more

Pretty great pizza. The location was nice. The service was decent. Food was cheap which was a definite plus. Definitely recommend to anyone that visits Dubuque! read more

Our waiter was fantastic, but the food was not good. The salad contained wilted and past-due greens. The garlic bread was just meh. My lasagna was so weird: Rather than having ground meat in the sauce, the lasagna had layers of noodles, cheese, and tomato basil sauce built around a single meat patty. It was a very disjointed dish. The wine list was not impressive (their chianti classico by the glass is a good option though). My husband liked his baked seafood pasta. Nice decor on the walls. But the kitchen needs help. read more

We have been driving by this restaurant en-route to Des Moines from Green Bay for 11 years and finally stopped for a late lunch (2:30). We were immediately greeted and seated by the hostess (we were the only ones in the restaurant upon arrival but when we left two other parties had come in). Waitress was very friendly and the decor/ambience (brick walls, old hardwood floors, lots of pictures of Italian families plus Italian songs playing in the background) were the best features. Unfortunately the food was ok, not great. The salad dressing lacked distinctive flavor and the garlic bread had too much Parmesan cheese and very little detectable garlic. The spaghetti olio was good but after eating a dish like that, I expect to taste garlic for hours and don't even feel like I ate garlic. Hubby's Italian beef sub was huge with lots of meat was good but not stand out. Dessert redeemed, however. The featured chocolate cake was layers of creamy dark, milk, and white chocolate on a cookie crust and hubby enjoyed the Spumoni. Beats the fast food options on 151 in Dubuque for a change. read more

Vinny Vanucchi's - Loved the ambience and decor - Italian Near Me - Dubuque, Iowa

See all

The Dubuque Vinny Vanucchi's is the younger and slightly less charming brother of the Galena, IL Vinny Vanucchi's. Since it's open this past winter, We've visited 3 times and all three times, have walked away with a "meh, it was ok - but I wish we would have traveled the extra 13 miles to the Galena location" feeling. My go to dish has been the Eggplant Parmesan at the Galena location. Given the DBQ location has overlooked this great dish on their standard menu, I went for the Nancy's Manicotti - and really enjoyed them. My boyfriend ordered the Steak Marsala and really ranted and raved about it. I tried it, and found it pleasing, but the amount of sauce on the steak seemed like it was over powering the meat and my taste buds would be bored after a number of bites. He reassured me, that wasn't the case with the steak as he ate his last bite. (I think this also had something to do with the fact it was his 1st steak since arriving home after a 13 month deployment in Iraq. :)) Pros: * Garlic Bread - (not as greasy as Galena) * Vinaigrette / House Dressing on Salad - use garlic bread to soak up extra on the boom of the salad bowl. * Bloody Mary's - Maybe we were just in a general good mood, but we both agreed their Bloody Mary's were a contender one of the top 5 best bloodys in the DBQ area * location - closer to home for us! * The decor is a little more stylish than the Galena location and doesn't have those way-over-done plastic grapes cluster around every corner. Cons: * No Eggplant Parm - waitress did mention it might be on the menu come summer time?! * The tap water was nasty, even more so than normal city water. * We were a two partied table, waitress was preoccupied with other tables to noticed we had finished our meals about 20 minutes before she came to see if we needed drink refills. * Lacks the charm of the other location, though the summer seating outside should prove to be a fun time for those who are willing to brave the river bugs. http://www.vinnysgalena.com/menu-dinner.asp read more

Not our first time here with a group for a business dinner, but it is our last if I am involved. The healthiest fare on the menu was a N.Y. Strip with a nice lot of mixed vegetables. Veggies were great, but the N.Y. shoe leather was... well two of us could only make it through half of it! Medium rare was medium well. Starters were not meant for a group...meatballs were two large meatballs presented without a serving utensil....use your fork! The rubbery Calamari's only saving grace was the sauce. All the entrees were over sauced....greasy disgusting sauced in a quantity that could easily drown a Navy Seal. The wait staff tried but were clearly below par, not really well trained to be ahead of the game. Serve the family style salad.....but oh, uh....oh...wait fora clean plate for the salad. They didn't charge me for the steak, our group was impressed, though not on the positive end of the scale. Sorry Vinny, this disappointment can't be excused nor repeated. read more

The garlic bread is a MUST and the tiramisu was incredible. Not as impressed with my main entree but I got the generic ravioli so maybe if I had a different entree it would give me a different experience. Our waitress was friendly and it was a beautifully lit and decorated space. read more

Very disappointed given we were told the place was very tasty. The water tasted terrible. That may be a city problem but a warning and a bottled option would have been nice. Service was very very slow. I tried giving the benefit of the doubt and hoped the server was simply overwhelmed. After seeing only a few other tables and several other servers I had to let go of that excuse. She was slow. Food was mediocre at best. The lobster on the seafood plate was like a large prawn and overcooked. The sausage ragu, while large, had five small pieces of sausage. The chicken Marsala was edible but not good. The manocotti was fine. If you've had good sangria, stay away from this sangria. We were told it's homemade and perhaps the water ruins it. On the upside, the atmosphere and architecture were very nice. The seafood stuffed mushrooms were very tasty. read more

All the way into downtown, I kept telling myself, "If I can just get a lovely bowl of garlic pasta, I will be happy." It was one of those 'he wants Italian. I want light' trips, and we had definitely ruled out all the mall places. We were headed for a roasted pizza place on the main street we had seen before. When we arrived, we found it was defunct. However, a Vinny Vanucchi's had opened up over the Busted Lift, one of our favorite bars. We had eaten at VV's in Galena, so we had high hopes. And, I got my garlic pasta! So warm, so delicious. He got his pizza, and we both went home happy. The waiter was attentive, the crowd small and quiet for our lunch, and we will be back. read more

We had a very nice dinner there on a quiet Monday evening. The server was friendly and helpful, especially with our ordering a takeout meal for a family member who was unable to join us at the restaurant. Everyone was happy with their meal, but be careful if you order the Italian sausage sandwich: it is too hard to eat! The beef ravioli was very good. read more

In a nutshell: great atmosphere, OK food. If you're looking for a romantic place to wine and dine someone downtown, Vinny's has oodles of atmosphere. There are candles on each table, and the owners have gone with the "kitchen pantry" theme -- there are sideboards full of bottles and cans of olive oil, tomatoes, wine and and pasta along the walls. It all works together to create a warm, intimate mood. The food is, in my opinion, nothing earth-shattering. They do great with Italian staples like Chicken Parmigiano, baked and stuffed pastas, and all varieties of fettuccine. Most dishes are either tomato or cream based. Those looking for more adventurous flavors will be disappointed. Service was friendly, professional and efficient. read more

Stopped by this place this past weekend due to a article I had read about good places to eat in Dubuque, and I gotta say I am so glad we did. Our server was amazing, friendly, funny, attentive, cordial. We had Tehran special which was an Eggplant Parm with linguini, also ordered Spaghetti with meatballs and Chicken Alfredo with pasta. Everything was delicious. Tasteful and they serve a lot of food, so we had plenty of left overs. Their salad and bread was off the hook! Yummy. Had a couple of beers and a glass of wine as well & our bill was about $60. I didn't think that was bad for great food and great ambiance. This place is nicely decorated. So warm and cozy! My kinda of place! I felt I was in Little Italy, NYC! Just loved it. read more

Lovely atmosphere with great pasta. I'll come back to try more items on the menu. A very wide variety of food.

We picked this place because it was close to our hotel. Food was just okay... I wouldn't rush back here. I think there are probably better options in Dubuque. read more

My family had stopped at the Galena location a few years ago and loved it. My wife and I were in Debuque so we tried this location. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I tried lasagna and my wife had chicken alfredo. Her chicken was excellent. My lasagna may have been reheated, and not throughly reheated. Salad was fair, but the house dressing was nothing special. Garlic bread was dry. read more

We were meeting family for lunch and drove to Dubuque which was in between. We had a reservation for six and were seated quickly and a nice big table. The menu was extensive and had lots of options including salads, pizza, sandwiches, and pasta. The server was friendly and effiicient. They had a good selection of draft beer and we had Sierra Nevada and a good local beer. Our table ordered a variety of food and all of it was good with generous portions. The soup was Italian wedding soup which was a good mix of spinach, pasta, and mini meatballs. The pizza was pretty good but the best choices were the eggplant parmigian and the Italiam beef sandwich. The eggplant was very thinly sliced eggplant lightly breaded with sauce and cheese over linguine with red sauce. It was delicious and so large we took a good anount to go. It came with salad and garlic bread. Yummy bread with garlic and cheese. My husband loved the Italian beef sandwich. It had thinly sliced beef, peppers, and spicy gardinere on a soft roll. Overall, the food was good with prices ranging from $10-$15. read more

Basic Italian, but can you really go wrong there? I absolutely love the back patio seating, especially when flowers are in bloom.

Ordered a house salad and large pizza to-go. Service was excellent the food was okay. The pizza was solid. The salad was pretty boring but cold and fresh. read more

The food was good...but the host was rude and surly! Walked in about 5:30 pm and was told that unless we had a reservation, we had to sit at the bar. Understandable if it was busy, but there were at least 20 empty tables. We sat at the bar - but when we left at 6:30, there were still at least 10 empty tables??? We will not be coming back. read more

Although I have only been to Dubuque twice this place has been the dinner choice both times. You get plenty of food or the money and there are always seats at the bar. The wine selection is quite large. The menu has plenty of options and the prices are reasonable. read more

Yummy food! Great location and friendly staff (when we were there). The location in Galena is fun, too!

By far the best Italian Restaurant in town. The staff always treats you like you're their number one priority. The food is very delicious and full of authentic Italian flavor. A great place to take that someone special on a date night. The food is a little pricey however it is worth every penny. I highly recommend fine restaurant!! read more

Old school Chicago meets Italian decor in the heart of downtown Dubuque. Try the simple pasta d'olio, which is spaghetti with garlic and oil sautéed, because not many places do this well. The garlic bread and salad that comes with entrees is a meal in itself. Their baked pastas are cheesy and hearty. read more

Vinny Vanucchi's - Free bread - Italian Near Me - Dubuque, Iowa

They have non-wheat pasta for those wheat sensitive. My friend ordered it and was very pleased We enjoy Vinny's in Galena and are equally happy with their Dubuque restaurant. The best time to go is for lunch because the prices are lower and it's not as busy. We've been there 3 times and have been consistently happy. Our server was attentive and professional, the food was perfect. Their endless salad and bread alone is worth stopping by. My favorite dishes are chicken picatta and pollo compomare (you can order it mild to medium if you don't like spicy). Overall, it's worth the trip, but I wouldn't go at a busy time ~ that's a general rule of most restaurants. read more

I stopped in for lunch as they opened at 11am. I was the only person in the restaurant. I ordered Aunt Gracies spicy sausage ragu. It was amazing. I haven't stopped in for about five years after moving out of Dubuque. I was so glad to have stopped in. The salad starter was very fresh, and the garlic bread with the meal really is top. I would recommend Vinny's and I have to put it down as my favorite restaurant in the Midwest. I will definitely be there again! read more

Slow to be seated and they were not busy at all. Because I didn't have a reservation I was seated in the bar area with plenty of tables available in the dining area.
