Vince Hurteau sold me an amazing condo back in 2009, after an exhaustive search in the downtown DC area. I love it still. But here's the amazing thing: Vince has kept in touch ever since, including me in his family of clients, inviting me to splendid soirees like his housewarming in the neighborhood, and providing annual updates on the changing property tax rates, and strategies for challenging them if they seem too high. At least once a year, I've called or emailed him with urgent real estate queries, and he has cheerfully and patiently responded with detailed replies, on everything from how to investigate a foundation leak to how to handle aspects of a condominium unit sale. Vince sold us our Condo in 2017 and represented us when we sold it this year. When my wife and I parachuted into a hot bidding war without having found an agent/broker, the listing agent recommended Vince as an experienced, savvy representative. That reference was our first sign that we had lucked out. Here's the pre-Vince background: my wife and I spent an on and off year looking for our next home. I met Vince when I moved to Washington, DC in 1993, bought my first house with him in 1998, sold it through him in 2004 when I moved to Colorado, and just bought again now that I am moving back. While i was filling out paperwork Vince took my Mom to Union Station to catch the train back home. Both of these stories are truly quintessential Vince. After nearly a year of unsuccessfully trying to navigate the DC real estate market to buy our first home we turned to Vince. We saw that he had managed to get a house in Mount Pleasant we loved - but lost out on - for another of his clients, so we figured if you can't beat 'em join 'em! As others have noted, Vince knows the DC market inside out and straight away we felt in safe hands. He listened carefully to what we were looking for, and regularly sent us suggestions for properties on the market and coming to market that met our requirements. Although we were picky, when we decided that we wanted to view a house Vince made himself available at times to fit our schedule, and offered insightful advice during viewings, spotting things we would otherwise have missed. We bid on two houses while working with Vince. The first house was one that Vince invested a lot of time in, attending multiple viewings and an inspection, however as we became caught up in a bidding war Vince offered us sound, unbiased advice which prevented us from paying over-the-odds, even though we lost out to another buyer. The second house was one that had been on the market for a long period of time and we had discounted on the basis of price, however Vince suggested strategies to encourage the sellers to come down to a price that we could afford. At the time of writing we are in the process of settling, and Vince continues to make himself available night and day to answer questions, or for random visits to our house-to-be. More than any other realtor I've ever met, Vince WORKED HARD and was BRILLIANT throughout. He's a total real estate geek, knows the DC market in and out, and has an incredible working knowledge of obscure historical facts about this set of 20th St row houses, or the depth of foundations on that wide of Wisconsin. He has an insane memory for when properties last sold and for how much and why, and how the closest were arranged last time he toured through the house eight years ago.
