I bought a home with Living Matters on the recommendation of coworkers. Unfortunately, I can't say I recommend the team.
The team was very friendly, low pressure, and easy going. I looked at a lot of houses. And that was great. But once I decided to buy, I felt like they weren't focused on getting me the best price. For example, when the home inspection (not a pre-inspection, mind you) revealed about $10,000 of repairs needed on the roof supports and skylights, the team said that's just a part of buying a home in DC and didn't try to negotiate a reduction in price. I also ended up paying over the listing price, even though there was only one other offer that was under the listing price. Because my contract had included an escalation clause, the seller asked for the escalation clause price, even though the clause hadn't been triggered, and Living Matters recommended that I pay that because it was a good investment. Two years later, the house is estimated to be about $10,000 less than what I paid, $20,000 less than I paid including the skylight repair. The sellers and their agent bragged at closing that they'd made out with a great deal. As a first time home buyer, I'd trusted Living Matters to defend my interests, but that didn't happen.
But what's really bothered me about Living Matters is that as soon as the deal closed, communication from them stopped. I've reached out to them several time for recommendations on things like house painters, landscapers, etc. to try to keep or increase the home value for when I sell, and they've never take. The time to respond. Needless to say, I will not be trusting them to help me sell the house in a few years. read more
