The bread is delicious, but I question the quality of the food. I watched them microwave the meat in a Tupperware. There is a man who works there who is always on his phone. When I came in, he went to the register (talking on his phone) and pointed his finger up telling me to wait. Okay, let me wait for you to get off of your phone so then you can take my order. I love a good banh mi. Unfortunately for me, there are none close to home. However, this one is near a Pho restaurant some friends like to meet at fit lunch occasionally. So i stop in her and grab some sandwiches. They also have the but 5 get 1 free. These are pretty straight forward, banh mi's. They do have about a dozen variations, and all i have had are good. They are quick, inexpensive, and good. They have 4 small takes inside, with a variety of bottle/can find and some Vietnamese prepackaged side things. But they are more setup for to go. Their bread is perfect banh mi bread. The meat, tofu selection is top notch, but nothing really "out there", and all compliment the sandwich just right. mann if the banh mi's weren't good i would never come here again. the rating is not for the food but for the service. the cashier man, i believe he is the owner, is EXTREMELY rude. firstly, he almost messed up my order. then he ended up over charging me just because i used my card to pay (the order was over the minimum card requirement). i asked to see if i was overcharged or if i was mistaken and he recalculated the total which ended up being more than i should of paid. the difference wasn't off by too much so i tried to tell him it was alright but before i could he shoved the difference in my face and basically dismissed me. i seriously wonder why his attitude never improved even though majority of the community dislikes the way he treats his customers. read more

I like this place a lot. They mostly sell banh mi but also have snacks like banh bao, nem, American chips and candies. A big selection of che and drinks - chrysanthemum tea, soymillk, etc. The bread is always fresh and never too crunchy. The veggies are fresh and the peppers are spicy. You can buy 5 combo (thap cam) sandwiches and get 1 free! It's run by a super sweet couple. They are always friendly, service is quick. Place is clean, TV to watch while you're waiting. There's also a great bubble tea place next door (Lollicup). The only downside is the 2x I've had the banh mi thit nuong (bbq pork), the meat was really chewy. So I stick to the thap cam. read more

I'll tell you how much I love Vina Bakery's Banh mi sandwiches. I have literally driven past 20 Banh me shops and over 20 miles to get Vina's sandwiches. I order the #4 vegetable with peppers and have not found another place that can come close to it. It might be their incredible buns (heavenly), or the extra vegetables that do the trick, but whatever it is, it is worth the extra distance to get to them. They have good sandwiches but they will charge extra money for every single little thing. For example, extra butter: charged, which is not acceptable but can be understandable. Here is a non-sense charged: putting veggie separately from the sandwiches. Watch out, they might sometimes put some boloney in Vietnamese style sandwiches. I had my heart set on grabbing some banh mi's at Nguyen Ngo 2, but they were closed before the posted closing time. So Vina Bakery got my business by default since they were still open. Of the two sandwiches that we tried, both were disappointing. 1. BBQ pork & fried egg sandwich: the pork was dry and tough and the egg was cooked like an omelet rather than sunny side up as I was expecting. 2. Meatball & ham sandwich: the meatballs had all these tendons and gristly parts that my husband had to spit out (and the guy usually eats anything). The only saving grace was the bread. It's light and airy and not doughy at all which would let the fillings shine through. But in this case, the bread was the star. At $4 a piece, I was expecting a better banh mi experience. Not to mention the size...it was one of the smallest banh mi's I've had. Even by California standards, it's pricey for what you get. Not worth it! Cash only folks...fyi It's a banh mi that is as good as it gets. Vina Bakery has something special with their bread. Their recipe is utter perfection. Outstanding light flaky crust outside, and pillow soft on the inside. We buy their bread all the time to make our own sandwiches and hoagies at home. Works incredibly well with some grilled brats, or a simple ham and tomato sandwich. I've had several of Vina's banh mi's. The combo, the pork with or without egg, and the veggie. All good. Vina spreads on some type of pate and a homemade butter blend. They pile in cucumber, cilantro, marinated carrot, the meat of your desire, and fresh jalapeno slices. Shake shake shake a little soy soy soy and THE banh mi standard is there for you to devour. Vina can crank out a sack full of banh mi's faster than you can say "so what is white ham anyway". Don't ask. Just eat. Prices are spectacularly low. We've tried the other Vietnamese sandwich places around and none come close to Vina Bakery. I asked the nice Asian lady how they make their bread and she just laughs at me. It's a running joke now. Vina brought that family bread recipe to our neighborhood and I love them for it. read more

I also come here to get house made yoghurt too - it's very light and delicious (full of probiotics!). However, I have to agree with everyone about the guy at the cash register. First off I love the bread!! It's the right texture(many French bread are not as soft as these)! Many Vietnamese sandwiches do not have this type of good bread!! Oh my gosh the bread is so good I just can't help but talk about it. Okay now they make one of the best sandwiches that I have eaten to be honest the stuffing is just right in my opinion but not overloaded like Nguyen Ngo... So to start off I love eating banh mi. Mira because this place and it's sister store vina deli that has caused me to get into Vietnamese sandwiches But as you can see I gave it three stars namely for them forgetting to take out the jalapeños when I asked them to and also not adding siracha sauce (which I highly suggest to try with your banh mi). Other than that I usually get the pork and egg or beef. I absolutely love the extra sauce or whatever is inside the sandwich when they make it. It tastes sweet/sour kinda taste. The beef and pork are soft enough that you can bite into it with out worrying it will all come out. The bread is fantastic; not too hard not too soft. I don't like this place. It's a typical Vietnamese sandwich shop that doesn't pride itself in friendly customer service. Another review mentioned that they like to charge you for things - and they are absolutely right. This place will nickel and dime you for everything. You want extra butter? .50 cents. You want extra carrots? .25 cents. You want the vegetables on the side? More money... This is my rationale: if someone is skimping on the butter, I'm not going to pay them extra to put the right amount on. Got a sandwich for my dad and I Was going to get the tofu sandwich but when I was looking at the tofu, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Didn't even look like tofu. This is an old school shop with old school service. Don't expect much, if anything. I don't think you can even get a cup of water here. The sandwiches here are also somewhat expensive at $4, cash only (or card with a fee under $10 I think), for a smaller than average sandwich. What Vina Bakery excels at is bread and mayo. The bread here is always warm and toasted perfectly, with a browned, crispy outside and chewy, soft inside. It's one of the best traditional style baguettes I've had in town and definitely the best part of the sandwich. In comparison, the baguettes at nearby Nguyen Ngoc (formerly Nguyen Ngo 2) are larger and fluffier, but also usually too crispy and inconsistent. The mayo I think I like only because they spread plenty of it here. It's decent, but the mayo at Nguyen Ngoc is much better. Unfortunately everything else about the sandwich is awful. The vegetables (cilantro, carrots, and cucumber) never taste fresh. You can smell the pungent odor of Maggi before even eating, which means they use too much of it. And the meat is just revolting. The BBQ pork is always very dry, stale, and hard. It's so stale that it actually tastes like jerky. By far some of the worst meat I've had in banh mi. Unless it's past 6 pm, stick with Nguyen Ngoc / Nguyen Ngo 2 in the same plaza. Their bread isn't as good, but everything else is far superior - from the mayo, meat, fresh vegetables, to the service, prices, and cleanliness. read more
