I've been coming here frequently since moving to the area and the food never disappoints. The Chef consistently serves amazing tasting food and always trys out new twists and experimenting with flavors that turn out very well. We came to Vin Allegro with high expectations after hearing good things, and overall I'd call it a solid but mixed experience. Most of the seating is in a covered outdoor courtyard with string lights and patio heaters, which creates a cozy setting for a group dinner. There's also a smaller indoor bar area that feels more intimate. The atmosphere is inviting and well done. We started with saganaki and The Bee's Knees to share. The Bee's Knees -- toasted bread with goat cheese, honey, and bee pollen -- was actually one of the highlights of the night and something I'd definitely recommend. We also ordered cocktails and a couple bottles of wine for the table, a Pinot and a Napa Cabernet. The Pinot was enjoyable; the Cabernet was not our favorite and felt a bit underwhelming. Service was friendly but slow and somewhat disorganized. We were told there was only one cook in the kitchen that evening, which likely explains why the food took quite a while to arrive. Several in our group ordered the "I Really Don't Care" entrée. I had a salad with steak, and unfortunately the steak was a bit clammy and lacked flavor. It wasn't terrible, just not memorable. For dessert we shared the lava cake, which was decent but not exceptional. If half-stars were an option, I'd probably land at a 3 1/2. Since that's not how it works, I'm giving it three. The ambiance and a few dishes stood out, but the overall execution didn't fully meet the expectations we had going in. read more

I'll be honest: the food was so incredible that it was gone before I could even think about taking a photo. We started with the cheese board and the "Hot Pocket Hoochie," and both were absolute standouts. ​What I love about this place is the philosophy--the menu is deceptively simple, but the flavors are incredibly complex. My parents took me here for a birthday dinner. Such a hidden little gem...unless you're a DB resident I assume. We got there before 6pm and my first two dinner entrees I wanted were already sold out. It must have been pretty busy before we arrived. A little bit of a let down. We ordered two I REALLY DONT CARE (Angie's beef bites, mashed potatoes, deep fried Brussels sprouts) and HOT POCKET HOOCHIE pizza. All the food was really good. His overinflated ego has him thinking he's in the ranks of a Michelin Starred chef and his attitude is truly embarrassing for him. Unfortunately, there are few places worth dining at in Discovery Bay. Sadly, Vin Alegro is no exception. We had the Prime Rib dinner. The prime rib was mostly fat and was in desperate need of seasoning. The vegetables tasted frozen, as well. Wasn't impressed with the slow service or the nonchalant attitude of the server. I had the house wine (Hannah Nicole, I think) and it tasted old, as if it was opened days earlier. There was actually sediment on the bottom of the glass. It was quiet with few patrons, which is nice if you're looking for a restaurant like that. We definitely won't be back. read more

I have to say the raviolis were VERY tasty. Topped with brisket in a delicious sauce. The prime rib was okay. Small pieces of bones were in as if it wasn't scraped off properly. Over all decent. Asked for au jus (twice) and never got it. The horseradish sauce did seem like it had horse radish in it which threw me off. Told the waitress we were there for my daughter's birthday dinner. (Hint hint wink wink) And nothing came out after we ate so we just went out for boba afterwards. Might be back for their Sunday classes. Overall food was good, service was lacking a bit. read more

We went for our anniversary in November. It's a small place, but I like that cozy atmosphere. The menu was a mix of pastas, meats, and seafood dishes. My wife had the sweet potato ravioli with tenderloin bites and a salad. I had the lobster ravioli, also with tenderloin bites. A real surf and turf experience. Both were very good. The servers were great and attentive. We will definitely be back. They also have some great happy hour deals during the week. read more

Ordered French fries $10. My plate drunken cheese tortellini $22 add chicken $8 ..bread, no side, butter $2.00 The sausages were fine.. The tortellini was covered in a thick tomato sauce that tasted like pizza sauce. Added chicken.. didn't help because it was dry. The entire plate tasted like thick pizza sauce. Didn't finish and left it there. The total bill was over $80, which we don't mind paying for good food. Our first visit was really good ! Vin Alegro is one of my favorite spots. We go for a quiet date night, a night of tapas and fine wine with friends, or large family gatherings. Their menu is always changing so it's never boring. Food quality is always excellent and you can tell Chef Robert is truly passionate about cooking. The staff is friendly and I never feel rushed out so they can turn the table. (We've been known to stay for hours sitting by the firepits sipping on wine and snacking to our hearts' content!) The space is quite small and because of this they have a strict cancellation policy for reservations, which is completely reasonable and understandable as they can't miss out on walk-in service for an empty table. I'll return time and time again so support this great business! read more

This place is a must visit if you stop in the small town of Discovery Bay. The chef is an award winning culinary artist. I started with an Old Fashioned whiskey drink as always. It was both tasty and strong. Orange was on the bottom and a huge single ball of ice. Next I tried the Manhattan Clam Chowder, which I didnt know was a thing. It's orange in color unlike the white creamy New England clam chowder. It was filled to capacity with veggies and clams in a fish stock. I had some bread with EVOO and balsamic reduction. While this was very good, the bread was not warm. It wasn't complimentary, so for $6 it's fair to expect warm bread. Texture was good and it did taste amazing. The wine country salad was very good, but overloaded with olives. I'm not a fan of olives , but didnt want to ask for it without them. I finished with another old fashioned and the Pawn & Garlic Ravioli. When I tell you that this was a flavor explosion... OMG, this was worth the trip here alone. I'd come back for it. It has prawn, garlic and cheese in the pasta, then it's suspended in a red sauce with more prawn surrounding it. Whew...I'm having flashbacks. read more

Dinner for two on a Saturday night 05/01/2021. We tried to look up their menu online but it varies and changes frequently. Started with the best "EVER" spinach dip & meatballs. For dinner entrees we had the cauliflower gnocchi and chicken/mushroom ravioli. Let me start with: I enjoy eating out everywhere in the world. I appreciate having this place close to home. Best "EVER" spinach dip was tasty, a bit salty and could use the bread toasted with a generous serving of bread to offset the salt. The (3) meatballs were basic. We had to try them but they are plain. Entrees: cauliflower gnocchi with asparagus. I was excited about this but I honestly couldn't tell where the cauliflower was. Not sure if they was a good thing but the gnocchi was dense and carried some flavor but not much. I wanted more asparagus. The chicken mushroom raviolis were super piping hot and when we finally tried them it was creamy and cheesy. I wish it had more bread. Again, glad to have this neighborhood restaurant. I'll keep a close eye on menu items but wish they had a better spread. They have an extensive wine menu. read more

Unclear if it was the owner or the waitstaff but was followed outside and questioned about my 18% tip asking if the service was unsatisfactory and why I didn't think the recommended 25% shown and requested on the POS was appropriate to choose. I took an appetizer cooking class here last Sunday and I couldn't have been more impressed. There were almost 40 people in attendance but I felt like Chef made it seem like I was the only one there. He answered all of my questions, gave lots of great suggestion, and all around made it simple, yet elevated. Not only was everything delicious, it was made from most ingredients I already had at home. I left feeling like I could make all of things he prepared. The entire restaurant was decorated so beautifully as well as plenty of gifts for my friends and family. I personally loved how he not only incorporated locally sourced ingredients in his recipe, he had stock of them as well. I can't wait to take my girlfriends back and sample the wines he had and go to another cooking class. Only $20 a class, yes please! read more

My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant after looking at all the pictures of the food and drinks. Unfortunately we didn't even get the chance to try any of it. We walked in on a Friday evening and were surprised to see there were only a few people there. It was a very small restaurant and we saw that there was a covered patio and asked if we can be seated outside. The waitress walked us out and even offered to turn on the outside heater. That was the last we saw of her. A party of 4 were seated at the table next to us, then another couple were seated, saw that they got their drink orders taken, then their food orders taken. Saw that they got their drinks. Tried to make eye contact to get the waitresses attention but she wouldn't look in our direction. We waited over 20 minutes and it was as if we were invisible. We finally got up and walked out. Not one of the staff asked us anything or tried to stop us. They just watched us walk out. We definitely got a "locals" feel since they were calling everyone by their first names. They were not even busy. We ended up going to the Steakhouse up the street! So glad we did! read more

We ended up here for a friend's birthday dinner. Not only was the service exemplary but the cocktails were also perfection. The chef made an exception and prepared a specialty for my friend for his birthday. All of the food we had was out of this world, including the simplest of dishes like fish and chips all the way up to their stuffed lobster, which is one of the best versions of that dish I've ever had. Food: 2/5 We started with caprese. It was burrata, with a heavy pesto sauce and halved raw cherry tomatoes. Caprese is normally slicer tomatoes and we typically see it with heirloom tomatoes. The tomatoes tasted fine but it looked like something my 6 year old cut up for snack, not an entree at a dining establishment. We ordered the lobster and paella for dinner. Paella was horrible. It lacked flavor and the meat was served all on top and completely dry. I had my husband bring it home because the kids could eat it (flavorless) and he left it in the car - nobody was sad about losing that $24 entree. The lobster was overcooked! For $125 I at least expected the gimmick to be amazing. The sauce tasted alright and there was a decent amount of shrimp and scallops inside, but the actual lobster was overcooked. Also it's weird to me that you serve lobster with no extra napkins, lemons or towelettes. Attitude: Not part of the review but pretty condescending When my husband called to try to book the reservation someone answered the phone and said they don't take reservations. No big deal. Then he went off about how we must not have come in a while etc etc they've changed how they did things 3 weeks ago when was the last time we came. I then noticed online someone asked what was in the stuffed lobster and the chef basically responded they've been doing it for 3 years (like where have you been?). The service was fine, slow at times, but very nice! We won't be going back, probably at all. We sadly only have a few good places to eat around our area and this one's off our list. read more

I love that they offer wine "tastes" here. It gave us a chance to try multiple wines without having to narrow it down to a glass or bottle based on descriptions alone. Of the four we chose, we both loved the Barbera from Shanendoah. I didn't even know they made wines there! We also ordered the fried deviled eggs, meatballs with homemade vodka sauce and the special of the day, miso glazed pork belly with ranch style beans. Impressive. I love deviled eggs and I love fried food, so this app had my name written all over it. I appreciated the spin on the classic. The meatballs and sauce were delish too. Service was great as well. There's a cute heated outdoor patio area as well as an indoor seating. In an area where mostly chain establishments rule, I'm so happy this local gem is right around the corner from me.
