late night munchie
Darwin P.

i got some great halal food here, as i saw it on my way back from the grind. my halal plate was a 10/10, with every bite complimenting each other. the bread was soft, the meat and rice was delicious and the side salad balanced out the dish perfectly establishment is small, which makes ambiance quick and to-go vibe. service is also quick!

Gyro advertisment

The service is fast and the chicken is seasoned well however I ordered a Gyro and received a kebab wrap. Unless they serve the gyros differently than theyre advertised in the photos. I received more of a Shawarma/wrap although it was wrapped in a tortilla like a burrito instead of pita bread/ flat bread. Also I assumed the tziki sauce was tzatziki, but It has a completely different taste, I don't see any cucumber or authentic spices/herbs in it like I'm used to. If you're looking for authentic Mediterranean, I would look in a different spot

Fireeeeee! Super yummy and fresh. Lots of flavor and not heavy. Our first time here and will definitely be returning. Service was awesome. Guy was solid and helpful in guiding us to choose something.

Butter chicken .... Where is the chicken just two small slices ...

I ordered a butter chicken.. No flavor , not tasty , no protein, definitely no worth it... just 2 slices of chicken..

The worst gyro I ever had

Poor quality food will get you one place - out of business! I've eaten at many kabob shops over the years and this is, by far, the worst one in terms of food quality. Ordering was easy and the menu is simple, but that's about where the positives behind this place end. I ordered two lamb gyros and waited about ten minutes for my order. The place was not busy and the table setup is a bit awkward. I got my food and left. When I opened it and took the first bite, I knew it wasn't going to be a good experience. I tasted over seasoned garbage meat, flavorless condiments, wilted iceberg lettuce, a sauce that tasted like spoiled mayonnaise, and a store-bought tortilla. This food was horrible. They are clearly trying to save money by offering low quality meat and produce. Do not support this business unless you enjoy subpar food. I won't be coming back.

We have been taking Togo several times. Mostly we order - potato Bolani & chicken skewers with rice & salad . Twice I had ordered for Chicken Seek kabobs & I have received Chapali kabobs - I am not a big fan of Chapali it's just that I don't prefer it too much... Other than that the food is good... little slow service since they prepare everything fresh. It's a very small restaurant seating is very limited.

My new obsession is this Baklava

The food was literally fantastic. The baklava was literally perfection. And the service was amazing. The guy was very nice and friendly. Love it and 10/10 recommend.

3 times we have come here for To-go and all 3 times we have gravitated towards their amazing Chicken Sheesh Kebob, made mild with their delicious sumac seasoning and super delicious Tziki sauce on the side. The chicken Sheesh is served over Basmati rice, cooked well and served with a small side of salad. We also got The Potato Bolani each time which is made very thin but there is a thin layer of potato all through, which makes this a very tasty dish. The service is slightly slow as the place is new and they do not have many order takers or cooks. But they make their food very very well. So the wait is well worth it. Nothing much to say about the ambience as they mainly run this place as a to-go, with 2-3 tables for dine in. We prefer to take it home.

Needs to be fresh off the grill. I got there at the late hours. Still, should have been fresh.

My father passed away last week, and in Afghan culture you normally host family and friends day one. We needed catered food for around 50-60 people on very short notice. Even though Zalla was already catering a wedding, they still made sure to accommodate our large order. They delivered 7 different dishes to the house, handled the setup, and helped make a very difficult time easier for our family. After my father's burial, we hosted a Khatm-e-Quran at Ruby Event Center in Livermore and again asked Zalla to cater, this time for 250 people. Once again, they came through for us. Every guest commented on how delicious the food was. Between the white rice, the shola, the kabobs, and the desserts, everything was excellent. More importantly, the compassion, professionalism, and service their team showed our family meant a lot to us during a very hard week. We truly appreciate everything Zalla and their staff did for us.

Not sure if its just due to age/memory but I dodnt hold any of it against her or this review. I got the koobdieh plate. My daughter got the chicken curry. We got the mantoo as an appetizer. Free salad = good Mantoo = good (but neded more spice) Koobedieh = okay, have had better Rice = very grainy/hard, not your typical basmati rice...maybe it's supposed to be that way? Chicken curry = terrible. The chicken was weird like a stale chip...not sure if it was frozen too long but it wasnt good at all. The curry itself was pretty bland. Rice was the same as I mentioned earlier. I think you can get you "fix" if you're in the mood for middle Eastern food but it really wasnt very good and it isnt the cheapest.

Flavor was all over the place -- a couple pieces had no salt at all, while others were way too salty. And the spicyness wasnt(aka chilli flakes) in the potato mixture wasnt spread well either. I got the triple kabob plate and the rice portion was surprisingly small compared to other Afghan spots. Chicken kabobs were inconsistent: some pieces were super salty, others were fine. The beef was tender, but not every bite had the same flavor. Chicken was tender though, cut well. Could have been flavored a bit more Plates overall felt smaller than what I'm used to at similar restaurants. Also worth mentioning -- they serve alcohol here, so if you're strict about halal, that might be a consideration. Since a place selling wine- not sure how strict they are on sourcing halal meat (hand slaughter for example). Also very pricey location compared to others maybe since they serve wine they catering to folks that drink who may spend more without caring All in all, not terrible, but definitely inconsistent and portion sizes could be better. Worth mentioning that all these de afghanans are not same - they have diff owners etc. Not bad seating, was empty for a sunday lunch at noon .

We ordered one potato bolanis for appetizer with beers and five orders of kabob. There were no kabob leftovers! Everything was freshly cooked and delicious. The kitchen was kind enough to serve the food family style and there was plenty of spare naan and rice, but the delicious kabobs were all gone. Folks really liked the lamb, but my favorite is still the mildly spicy chapli kabobs! I took a bolani home. It is perfectly crispy after a few minutes in the toaster oven. It is a smallish restaurant but Yasmeen manages the front end well with a helper. Highly recommended!

Not a simple order by any stretch. Getting the owner (?) on the phone to place the order took some persistence, but once we connected, she was fantastic. She helped us figure out quantities, steered us toward the right dishes for the vegetarians and the kids, and was upfront about what contained nuts. She even threw in extras (salad and dessert) to complete the meal. I felt like she treated us like family. Pricing was very reasonable, everything arrived on time -- delivered by her uncle, no less -- and there was so much food that every guest went home with a takeout container -- the true mark of a successful spread. My husband was considerably less thrilled that I didn't save any of the meat dishes for home (he still laments it every time we talk about this awesome catering experience to others). For dine-in, our favorites are the lamb kebob, the Qabili, and the chicken kebob. We'll keep coming back.

I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider…read more Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good food. I know how to order next time. Extra green sauce or yogurt drink all over.
