I got some takeout and I opted for the chicken tikka kebab plate with the yellow rice and the side salad. The bread was amazing. I love the bread here you can't beat it. I also asked for extra white sauce on the side, you could never forget that. The salad was pretty good can't complain nothing special though the rice was banging! It was well made, no complaints about it. The chicken too was pretty good well seasoned and not dry. However, I felt like it could've used a little bit more salt, but that's just me. I would pass this place on a daily basis and since I like trying new places. I decided to stop and grab a bite for the misses and myself. She had the fish and chips. First of all, the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The establishment is very clean and the staff is super friendly. Now on to the food. The burger was just what the Dr ordered. It's sad to say but the food here is not as enjoyable anymore. We came here for a celebration and we were disappointed to say the least. We did learn that the management changed and they assured us that the recipes were still the same, but you can take it in their food that it is most definitely not. This use to be a go to place when trying to find something to eat without guessing if it was good or not, but we will not be coming back. Based on rave reviews, oh how I wanted to love Oakley Tavern as much as others do. First off, to call this restaurant a "tavern" is a bit of a stretch. It's an extremely bright white space with little to no ambiance. Rather, it's pretty sterile looking. The space is functional but don't expect a tavern if you go. Arrived on a Friday night and saw the place was packed. There were two large tables with at least 15 people at each which should have been a sign to come back another time. All the attention of the staff was focused on these two parties. It seemed chaotic at first-no one greeted us and it wasn't clear if you ordered at the counter, seat yourself or wait for a table. We waited a few minutes and then asked a server what to do. She said we could grab a table and she'd bring us menus. That took quite a while but once we got menus and someone to take our order, we settled in and took note that the servers, while harried, were quite nice. Menu is a mix of kabob plates, wraps, salads and wood fired pizzas. A veggie wrap would be a nice option but is not. Might be a nice menu add. I got a veggie pizza on cauliflower crust. Food took quite a while, which we expected on such a busy night but when it finally did arrive, mine came out wrong. They were very kind about it and went to correct it but the wait then doubled. My boyfriend really enjoyed his wrap and waffle fries, while I sat there completely hangry. When mine did arrive back correctly, I will say it was excellent. Nicely flavored sauce, crisp crust and generous on the veggies. We had lots of leftovers. Let's face it, there's not a ton of options out here in East County, so we're always looking to expand our list of go-to restaurants. I really wanted to love Oakley Tavern more. So glad we tried Oakley Tavern! We had the combo kabob wrap, the chopped cheese and the chicken tikka masala. They all came with fries. The service was good, drinks were refilled and food came out quick. The side salad my husband got was huge and the ranch tasted homemade. It's a really good mixture of Mediterranean and American food. You don't usually see a chopped cheese on the menu, so my hubby got it. It's basically a chopped up hamburger and they mix it with onions, he added mushrooms and bacon. My daughter raved about the chicken Tikka and my kabob wrap was delicious. Definitely a hidden gem in Oakley. First, I wanna talk about how hospitable and amazing the owners are. They always take care of me and my family when we're over and they definitely do not skimp out on the portions. Their food is always prepared to my liking and I I can't really complain about anything. Recently, I ordered the chopped cheeseburger and I was able to substitute a couple of the ingredients without a problem. The pizza has a nice crunch to it and we always order more than one. The wings and the beer that they provided were just a perfect combination. They have beer on tap, along with some wine. The place is very clean and the bathrooms are checked on regularly. The location is a couple blocks down from City Hall, so please don't miss your chance to take your family to a great place to eat. We went to try their service during football season. The food was fresh and very flavorful. I had heard about the chopped cheese burger sandwich. It was very tasty. Ordered the seasoned waffle fries really enjoyed those too. My guest ordered the cheese burger and he approved. He is very picky about burgers too. We ordered the garlic cheese bread and that didn't disappoint either. Serving size is very good we left very full and with leftovers. I'm so excited to give another updated review of Oakley Tavern. This place NEVER disappoints. Selena was our server. She's awesome! So sweet, friendly and just a genuinely nice person. Lol I'll have to make up for it with a detailed review . Okay so I had the Tavern Gyro with waffle fries, and this is one of the things I come back for. For me, Oakley Tavern is consistently setting the bar to its highest level in flavor of food, quality of food and of service! Not to mention the wide selection that is available on their menu. (Sidenote: I really want to try other things, but I always get the same thing, because I love it so much, lol.) My friends got the Chicken Sandwich also with waffle fries, a Gyro Plate, and a cheeseburger for their daughter. I have to say, we all pretty much cleared our plates. I got a taste of the rice which was so tasty . The Tavern Gyro, was so fresh and savory. The pita was soft with the perfect bite to it. During our meal, a woman came to our table and asked if we needed anything, and I asked for more white sauce. I wanted to say "Tsatsiki" sauce but I wasn't sure if it was right, lol....anyways, I was just happy that I was getting more of it, and thankful, that she came by when she did. Today I came in to have my usual chicken kebab dish, I saw they had a spicy version on the menu so I ordered it. I did not realize I would not be able to enjoy it, I love spice but this was a higher spice than I expected even hotter than habanero! I managed to eat one piece but the spice was just over the top hot and with the heat from cooking it, it did not help. I informed the waitress that it was way too spicy and that I couldn't eat it, she offered to ask if they'd switch it for the regular option (by the way we are regulars) and she came back to tell me they said no. A solid 4.4 stars. We had 2 types of pizza and a chicken sandwich. Food was 5 star and the service was 4 star. It seems to be a family business and everyone was working hard. The server we had was good but to be outstanding just be more attentive with drink refills and checking in on the table. And don't assume we don't want dessert always ask. I don't mind asking the server for a drink refill or another beer, but to be outstanding, the server needs to have the initiative on their own. Grow the bill and profit/ tips grow with it.
