This is a great spot for groceries. Friendly staff and a good selection of items. My mom lives in town and just stopped by the other day and was surprised at how great of a spot this is. Definitely worth shopping here if you live around the area. read more

Meats are good, Adult staff friendly. Bakery better than Shaw's or Stop & Shop. Anytime I got something questionable I took it back and they apologized and gave money back. If others were unhappy, please let them know so they can fix the problem. This is a small, neighborhood market so don't expect Costco, Shaw's, or Stop & Shop sale prices. But most regular prices are comparable. And you can get most items and in and out quickly without long aisles and checkout lines. read more

Great selection of foods. Meat always good. Helpful staff. The only time I go to Shaws is when I need the particular cat food my cats need.

I go here only because it's convenient. The prices are pretty expensive. The worst part about this place are the teenagers that work here. The adults their are fabulous, especially during the weekdays. However, if you go on a Sunday, be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen or like your disturbing the teenagers that work there. They're rude, some of them don't even acknowledge you when you say hello. One Sunday, I even saw a young woman yelling at a customer in front of a manager! It is pretty apparent that the teenagers can behave any way they want and there are no consequences for their behavior. Case in point, I went there 2 weeks later and the same young woman was still employed there! Needless to say, I was totally shocked! Anyone would expect one would be fired after such a display in front of all of Scituate! The one in Hull is superb, because they don't employ entitled teenagers that are downright rude to customers! I have never once had the problem in Hull that I have in Scituate. read more

This is a "village market" with personality. If your ideal is the mega grocery super store, go there. But if you need beer, wine or mix, this place has a great selection of quality choices. Need sunscreen, a towel or even a beach chair? Good place to go. Cheese and crackers for guests? Again, a great place. There are meat, vegetable and canned goods sections, good selection, but not "big store" selection. The help is friendly and the prices are fair. I have not seen the "dirt" that some claim. Is it a high end market? No. Is it a local Market run a good people that try hard and go a good job? Yes! Some of the reviews on here are older. My 2 cents is that I go several times a week. I get deli, meat, produce and grocery items. Everything is usually great. Occasionally a bump in the road but that's the same with the big markets too.. The deli here seems fine when I go, just have to make sure they slice it to your liking like everywhere else. Added bonuses....they have a decent wine and beer selection...and their hot food section in the deli can be pretty good at lunchtime. Bottom line, check the dates on stuff just like everywhere else. Usually when you go through Scituate Harbor, you will always see it. This is our local grocery store. Indeed from the outside it looks average. Like any other small town grocery. Its when you walk inside that you see that it is something special. The Village market has everything you could ever need from a grocery store. Note that i said need. There are plenty of what i call leisure items (chips, candy, soda, junkfood ect.) that might not be there, but there is plenty to satisfy your wants and needs. There is even a salad station. They have a large area specifically for alcohol. They have all kinds. Plenty of beer and wine for everyone! The staff is friendly and the prices are average. If you are from out of town, this is a great place to shop for things on the go. read more

Rude customer service. I called to ask a question and the lady on the phone was very rude.

Every time I buy lunch meat from the deli, it's rancid. I have gone back at least three times in the last six months because of this and they haven't fixed the problem. I keep giving them the benefit of a doubt and they keep failing at the simple task of keeping the deli stocked with fresh products. The Willow Tree chicken salad I got this week smelled and tasted like it had been mixed with vinegar. $11 down the drain because I'm fed up with going back to return it. Two stars simply because they're courteous and friendly. You're better off driving another five minutes to the Shaw's in Cohasset. read more

Today I decided to take a chance and buy some cold cuts. Not to quote pretty woman but can't help it. "Big mistake, HUGE!" First off the cheese was in no way fresh and was extremely old. The meat was slick (not the slick it should be when it's fresh) and that only happens when it's old and starting to rot. That when I came home and opened the bag the smell almost knocked me over it was so rancid. Thank god That I examined it myself before feeding it to my children. Who knows what would have happened if I had. I could only assume food poisoning.I will NEVER Make this mistake again. Like everyone else. How is this place still in business?! No really! Village Market is at a very convenient location for me so I've gone in there every month or so for the past year. I've ignored a couple things before related to the cleanliness of the store (for some reason their whole chickens are ALWAYS leaking juice everywhere), and mostly stuck to the beer and other items that wouldn't kill me, but today I decided I just can't go there anymore. There were several pork tenderloins labeled sell by June 6th. Today is May 5th. These were not frozen but refrigerated. I imagine it was some sort of misprint, but that's just nasty. I called and told a manager who didn't seem at all concerned about it. (At the very least say something along the lines of "Gee, I'm sorry, I'm not sure how that happened" instead of "We just print the date on the boxes that are given to us.") Nasty. read more

Don't know what it's going to take for the Market to clean up its act. We live in the neighborhood and love the idea of having a full service grocery store within walking distance. BUT - it is definitely not our choice, if we can avoid it. AND - as a "good neighbor" we've pretty much had it with the smell coming from their garbage dumpster and spreading through the village. read more

I enjoy going to Village Market as I can walk to the store or drive if required. Not crowded and good people, but expect to pay higher prices than super markets, which is to be expected. I have only one minor complaint. I cannot understand why they cannot label the muffins made on site. I usually buy a muffin a few times a week and have no idea which muffin is which. I have seen people touching the muffins to try to determine the kind of muffin. They only make a half dozen or so varieties, so they should be able to place permanent labels on the racks and put the tray of muffins to corresponding labels like in Dunkin Donuts and Shaw's. Don't think that's too much to ask. I have mentioned this to the bakers in back, but got a mostly surly look. F.G. read more

If you want to get food poisoning or severely ill then come shop here!! If giving zero stars was an option I would have done just that. My husband and I have family who live in the harbor. We tend to run to this market for last minute things we may have forgotten on the way. This trip we decided to pick up burgers and ribs to throw on the grill. Well after opening the food there was a rancid rotten smell. Today is 7/2/17 and the label was dated for 7/8/17 & 7/16/17... so clearly labeling was off. We returned the meats and thought maybe it was just what we grabbed.... unfortunately we were mistakenly wrong. Again.... bad burgers. We returned those and upon returning a worker had given us his apologies and told us that this has been happening very often. He also told us that the meat cooling system shuts off from time to time and they just let the meats sit there to be sold. When you walk down to the meat section you can smell BAD MEAT. One of the workers tried telling us it was from the dumpsters outside... and if that is the case then there is clearly something wrong with the building. This matter needs to be corrected before people get severely ill. My cousin is pregnant and has a three year old and if they were to ever ingest that meat it would not have been good. This place needs new ownership (because the owner is aware of the cooling system and does nothing to fix it) or this market needs to be shut down. Sad because there isn't anything else close in the area to grab last minute things...but you surely cannot rely on this place! DISGUSTING. read more

Just had an in-store heated argument with an employee over an incorrect ice cream price. It felt like the kid wanted to fight me over the $1 issue....Unbelievable!!! ...And as I walked out of the store he was verbally making fun of the T-shirt I was wearing while telling me to never shop there again. The kid was 30 yrs younger than me; I've never been more disrespected in my life. What ever happened to "the customer is ALWAYS right" principle. The good news: Good location (for Scituate residents) and good selection of beer and wine (less so) and a growing but small selection of decent foods. However -- be prepared for lousy service by snarky townie chicks with bad ink, bad hair, exposed bellies (not ripped) and worse attitudes who will be working there until they are in their late 50's. This exceeded my expectations for a local grocery store. It was well stocked, the staff was friendly and the prices were competitive. They even had a selection of gourmet and organic items, which I hadn't thought to find in a store it's size. The produce section was a little small, it wasn't the ultimate super mart, but for a local privately owned grocery it had everything I could want on short notice including a well stocked microbrew section! read more

Dirty,dirty,dirty!!! And did I mension this store was dirty??? What a disappointment this store is. Store has great potential and you can tell the owner has some good intentions with the quality of products sold. That said the owner is a clueless business person because the help he has running the store is shameful. It is a wonder how the board of health has not shut them down yet. I would honestly say the restroom at the local gas station is cleaner than this store. Absolute pitty that this store is not given the proper attention it deserves. Often I feel like I need a shower after shopping here, which is just not the feeling you should have from your local supermarket! Locals would certainly support a well maintained store instead of driving 15 minutes to buy necessities from Stop and Shop, but the owner needs to start by hiring a professional staff and give the store a good cleaning before he has a fighting chance. read more
