My favorite "go-to" liquor store in the area…read more Marshfield Liquors (smack-dab between Dunkin' Donuts and Halfway Cafe) is a cute (Can you say "cute" when referring to a place that sells tequila? hehe, just did!), kinda teeny liquor store with fabulous customer service. Their selection is pretty good, though you probably won't find exotic vineyards or rare vintages here, the place is just too small. (I did come across Limoncello here... that stuff is delish!!) We stopped in the other day, having a craving for watermelon margaritas, but not sure exactly where to start. (Um, tequila and watermelon schnapps? Let's grab those!) One of the ladies that works there grabbed a bartender's guide, told us how to make it, and let us write down the recipe. I thought that was super cool. Definitely stop in for your favorites, and don't hesitate to ask questions here. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Good prices, too!

This place is as really good as it get's! I never really went in there until last 4th of July…read more And as you can imagine, it was so busy! I needed a lot of liquor, and I didn't need to ask for help! A employee behind the counter stopped what he was doing and came right out and asked me if he could help me find anything! We spent about 20 minuets finding the right liquor I needed! And he actually recommended I change my whiskey bottle for another brand that was a little cheaper, but a lot better. And it was! I never had anyone recommend anything to me that was cheaper and better! I even asked if they could order me some Heineken Dark, which is really hard to find!, A week later, I got a phone call saying I could come and pick it up! There are a lot of options going up RT 139 for booze, but since then I have and will only go there! This place is AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!!!!!

This is an old-school style liquor store. I love everything about its original style and the use…read moreof neon signs. In the local parlance of the greater Boston area (and some other parts of New England), liquor stores are called package stores. If you're really a local you'll call it a "packy" as in "I'm going to the packy to buy some beah". (Read: "beer" but drop that last "r" and make the word two syllables). And indeed this is a "packy" in a good way; a place where you'd feel comfortable dropping in and finding friendly service with someone who might just remember what it is you like. We stopped in as we strolled down Front Street which is the main shopping drag in Scituate. It's a compact store but it has most of what anyone might be looking for. I was pleasantly surprised to find a white wine called Ballet of Angels produced by the Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret Connecticut. This is a winery we've had the pleasure of visiting. They make a number of wines that are quite delicious. It's not always easy to find their wines though. So of course I snapped up a couple of bottles while here. While the wine selection isn't enormous, there are enough selections that the average wine drinker would be able to find a few interesting bottles to take home. I appreciated that as I was making my purchase, the woman at the counter told me that she had recently tried the wine I was buying and how much she liked it. It's nice to be in a liquor shop where there is someone who makes a point of knowing something about what is being sold. I've grown weary of the liquor "supermarkets" where in general the staff is clueless and who just man the registers to ring up sales. The prices on standard items are a buck or two more than you'd find in the larger chain liquor stores but for the attentive service and being able to support a local business, I'm in.

I'm a bourbon/Old Fashioned drinker, and this store sells three different brands of maraschino cherries/bourbon cherries, which is truly outstanding, when you consider that very few liquor stores carry any maraschino cherries at all. Now, keep in mind that you're pretty much on-your-own in this huge store. I've been shopping here for over 10 years, and not once has anyone ever asked me if I need help finding anything (and there have been times when I did). This is the "Home Depot" of liquor stores, and in that sense, you'd better know what you want, and you'd better know where to find it. No one's going to ask you. If you don't know where to find what you're looking for, be prepared to wander the aisles for a while until you do. In terms of selection, Luke's just can't be beat. You'll eventually find whatever it is you came for. Just remember to bring a healthy dose of "retail independence" when you go.

I know Guinness, and I know when it's off. I saved 5 of the cans and brought it back to Lukes. They called manager CJ to exchange the 8-pack out for fresh stuff. CJ refused and asked me for my receipt, which, of course, I didn't have. He said, sorry, I can't help you. Company policy. I told him to toss them in the trash. What a sham. Do better, Lukes! This kid will ruin your business, Mr. Luke. Talk to him and explain common sense! You risk losing my wife and I, which is $5K per year, and everyone I tell about this, for $14 (my cost). Geeez.
