Mother Reuben! My go to. Burgers are great service is good. Go early gets busy fast.

My wife and I love the food at the village Hideaway. We especially like the fact that the servers there aren't assigned any specific table as one will see you another will get your drinks. Another will take your food order and then another will serve you.. they all seem to work together and work very well together. In addition, the food is always very good.. That said we may have just visited there for our very last time. We were regulars there, but have been upset recently over their recent seating practices.. you walk in and you put your name down on a list. This past Friday, we watched as several customers jumped the line and went and sat it open tables.. we have complained about this before, but this past Friday was the last straw . unless they change their seating practice, we will not be back. read more

It's small, narrow and good. You can't go wrong here. The Reuben and the burgers are my favorite but they have something for everyone.

Whenever I'm back home visiting I make sure to stop at the Village Hide-A-Way! The food here is always top notch and the service is even better. They probably have some of the best prices in the area when it comes to food and drink. This is a perfect spot to watch any of your favorite sports as well. There is typically always parking right out front, but if not there is free parking right around the corner. They are consistently busy but they never let that be an excuse for how clean they keep the place at all times. This past weekend I got the Smashed Turkey Grinder and it was so good. The toppings were fresh and you can tell it's not your typical deli meat Turkey. The fries are cooked to perfection and I HIGHLY recommend getting a side of the homemade ranch! If you are in downtown Vicksburg they are also part of the Vicksburg Social District where you can pop in and grab a beer and walk around downtown. read more

Crowded little place because the food is good. Had the perch basket and my husband had the Reuben. Service was quick.

Showed up and was told 15-20min wait. 45 mins later they had sat 3 other tables of people who appeared to be "regulars " before us. But when we asked they said it was just normal, but they had a hand written notebook with the names on it that was out by the front door so was obviously their names were after ours. After my last review I kept ordering the stacked ham and cheese off and on in hopes that the lean meat portions were just an occasional slip up. Nope! This last time again it was three slices again and the condiments outweighed the meat to the point of the toast being soggy almost falling apart. I'm done with that item. This is still a good place to go but some items are failing. I can understand trying to keep prices fair but at the cost of quality and quantity just doesn't make sense. read more

I live in Vburg. One night on a weekend I went with a friend. It was this little place. I have a rule: usually the smaller and darker the joint the more American the beer and the better the food. As usual I was right. Clearly everyone knew each other. When we walked in I expected a needle to scratch on a record. We received smiles. We come here whenever we can get a table. Would be great fun to come during a Lions game, you can hear the cheering down the street. Always busy. We have had patrons give up their tables to us. Very nice folks. E.veryone in town comes here and they all know owners and wait staff. It's hard to wait for a table as there is no place to sit while we wait and I can't stand more than 3 or 4 minutes. We just go when we can get seated, if not we have to go to somewhere in Portage. We have always loved the food. The portions are generous and the food is yummy. The husband loves their Reuben. They make their own Pastrami. Burgers and fries are good too, and the perch basket is a local favorite of many people. They have different beers rotate on tap, sometimes from the Distant Whistle, a tap house across the street. You can get carryout at the Hideaway and eat it at the Distant Whistle. read more

I love this place because of their great customer service and awesome atmosphere but their food is hit or miss. I usually get the beef nachos which are delicious, however, half of the time they come with very little toppings underneath the top layer. They also always have burnt edges. I want to give them 5 stars so badly but the food just comes up short too frequently. read more

Stopped in after golf a couple weeks ago. The fried bluegill arrived quickly, hot and crispy. Fries were same. There was enough tartar sauce! . Good fish basket! The waitresses have a round robin rotation so they are right there when you need a fresh beer. Glad to see the Hideaway "still got it". It is bustling and happy vibe. First let me say my waitress was awesome. The place was very crowded and loud, so there was a pretty long wait for the food to come out. I'd say at least 45 min.I ordered the chicken tacos. Something was definitely wrong with the chicken. I ate one of the three tacos and started to feel sick. It tasted weird like they put sugar instead of salt on it. The chicken was the consistancy or wet cat food. Not shredded,almost like they put it thru a meat grinder. My son had the chicken finger basket. That was good and he loved the fries. I told the waitress about the tacos and she took 2$ off my bill. I hope they threw that meat out, because I was very sick last night and my stomach is still sore today. I want to love this place! It has all the charm of a small town hole in the wall that "should" be amazing. The service is great! In the past, the Reuben was good. However, the food always leaves us wanting. First of all, the appetizers are all flash frozen and fried. Whatever oil they use is cheap and always does a number on my stomach. Their ranch dressing is awful! Come on... make this from scratch and it would improve things so much. Tonight, I had the beef wet burrito. The beef was clumpy, like large unflavored cooked hamburger....and the entire thing had zero flavor. Hardly any sauce, and very bland. The salsa was clearly Pace from a jar. Hubby and I joked that Taco Bell has more flavor....only it wasn't a joke. This place could be soooo much better if they would just take a few more steps in the kitchen. Delicious food, I had the gyro and hubby had the "mother reuben" which I think they are known for. They were both very good. The Reuben was worth the drive, I highly recommend it. The beer selection on tap is a little limited, but a nice bottle selection. Their service is excellent!! They work as a team, which is so nice to see. We tried the Village Hideaway after checking out our new home which is under construction. Vicksburg is a small quiet town,mans sadly like many small towns has quite a few empty businesses. However Village Hideaway is an exception! While not packed it was plenty busy. The staff was friendly. My wife and her friend had been there before, but I had not. They had exclaimed about the Perch Basket. I had also seen very positive reviews of the Perch. So all three of us ordered it, but the ladies split a basket. The server was very nice explaining that there was no problem in splitting it between the ladies. Other places we've eaten have not been as cooperative. The baskets came quickly and were piping hot. The perch was lightly battered and DELICIOUS! The fries were greasy but not the fish. The slaw was average, and so was the sauce for the perch. Quite honestly a full basket was way more than even I could eat. FOUR LARGE pieces of fish and fries is huge portion! I gladly took the rest home for lunch the next day. So the meal was quite a deal, two meals for the price of one! This is one meal I would recommend without I'm sure we will be back once we live in the area. Went sat PM. Sat at bar. Had a couple beers. So far good. Ordered appetizers of baked nachos, and an olive burger deluxe. Long wait. Bar waitress said a lot of people ordered nachos. Finally nachos came with meal (burger). Ate nachos first as usual with an appetizer then burger. Now fries and burgers cold. No apology for delay. A GREAT LOCAL DIVE BAR! I don't want to be insulting and give it five stars, it's a dive but a good one. I had a lovely evening here by the environment alone. We did arrive 30 min from kitchen closing the fried green beans were good, but grinder was room temp more or less. Naturally drinks were cheap, some local microbrews, or a large pour. The wifey and I watched a wedding party simulate sex with the butter from the free popcorn machine. He really liked shooting massive butter loads and she was just licking it up, kinda hot in a weird couple steps up from the normal strawberries, chocolate sauce, whipped cream food kink. Everyone laughed. He eventually cleaned up his slippery load from the floor before anyone fell. Felt like an dysfunctional gathering we were allowed to join. Will be back. read more

Tried this place for dinner takeout for the first time. I had the turkey reuben and my husband got the traditional Reuben. I would say that we both enjoyed our meals...but we think the sandwiches could be better if the bread had been toasted. It would've held up better in our opinion. This is another very specific and limited review. I am not reviewing the restaurant as a whole but mostly a sandwich. First, full disclosure that I know and am personal friends with the head chef. If you choose to ignore what follows based on that information, that's fair but I'm playing this one straight. That revealed, the Village Hideaway has the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had. While I haven't traveled the world sampling Reubens (I'm waiting on that job offer), it is my favorite sandwich when I don't want a burger. If it isn't the best Reuben in the world, it has to be one of the best in Southwest Michigan. It is served on rich, deep dark rye bread that hits the perfect balance of grilled firmness and lush softness. The corned beef itself is not thin deli-style but thick sliced hunks and layers of meat. It is accompanied by the standard cheese, sauerkraut, and dressing but the bread and corned beef are the stars. If you want a subtle soft flavor, this isn't for you. The meat is thick, dense, and heavily seasoned. It kicks. No one prepares it like Chef Nathan but even when he isn't in the house, it's still beyond solid. If you're light eaters on a date, you could easily split it but order two and take the halves home for your toaster oven. There's a reason it's called "The Mother Reuben" and it's definitely the thing to eat if you're down in Vicksburg. read more
