Brought my gold pocket watch in for repair. The interior glass was cracked and needed replacement. The staff barely looked at me. They seemed very preoccupied. Finally someone spoke, can I assist you' yes please. The watch repair person was the best part of the transaction. Very kind and listened to what I needed. Kept me informed with a call a couple days later as to the progress. Watch was repaired and back to normal. Thank the Lord for the fellow that repaired my watch. Located in the back of the Forestwood Antique Mall, this place has been making it happen there for over 20 years. Owners Eric and Cecile Wright know their stuff and carry some amazingly restored jewelry and watches. They also happen to be the largest retailer of vintage cuff links in Dallas. If you are into cuff links, you know vintage is always better than the new crap a lot of people are selling these days. I took my husband's Corium and my Seiko watches to Village Goldsmith. I had never shopped there but I knew they had been at that location for several years so I left our watches with them. When they told me it would be $25.00 each for the battery, I thought that was a little high but I agreed to pay the $50.00 total. That was a mistake! When I went to pick up the watches, I was informed they had lost the spring bar that attaches the watch band to the clasp on the Corium. I was furious! There is no need to remove the clasp from the band. There is plenty of room to get the back off the watch to access the battery without dismantling the watch band! Spring bars are known for bouncing off - never to be found. Of course Corium uses a unique spring bar - it is an expensive watch. I would expect a reputable jewelry store to get in touch with a certified Corium repair center and order a spring bar for me and have it installed. That would have been good customer service but that isn't what happened. When they noticed how disappointed I was they mailed me a PRINTED OUT sheet from Times Ticking watch repair with the number for long distance information and tell ME I need to get the phone number for them and call to VERIFY the address is good and then mail (and it needs to be registered because of the value the watch) to Times Ticking to have a new spring bar inserted. Of course the postage will NOT be insignificant and I will be responsible for the charge for the spring bar and labor. Mr. Goidel didn't charge me for the batteries but I seriously doubt $50.00 will cover the charges to make my husband's wearable to say nothing of my time and the inconvenience of loss of use. Stay clear of Village Goldsmith Antiques, they may have beautiful jewelry but their customer service is horrid! read more

What a gem (bum bum tsh) of a shop! I recently got engaged and had the best experience there. Their collection of antique rings (particularly sapphires) was impressive and were reasonably priced! My ring is gorgeous -- a 1940's platinum piece with beautiful filigree and AAA quality sapphires. And when my wife-to-be wanted to change out the stone in her ring for a very rare sapphire (padparadscha to be exact) they contacted sellers nationwide and found us 5 beautiful stones to choose between within the week. They remade the prongs on my fiancée's vintage setting (1920's) to more securely protect the stone while keeping the vintage character of the ring intact. They told us about every change they made to the ring and explained why they made those choices. In short, their collection AND craftsmanship was unparalleled. And, to address what some other reviews have said... yes, Erik was a bit of a grumpy old man but we loved working with him and he was never rude to us. Unlike other places we went, he wasn't pushy even though it took us several visits to decide on the right rings. He was honest and transparent about the cost of the rings and the stones. His wife and Andres were also kind, patient and knowledgeable. Cherry on top, they were LGBT friendly and never made us feel weird about being a lesbian couple, which is always a blessing when you're gay and living in Texas. So if you're looking for a unique ring, custom work on vintage jewelry, or rare stones at a reasonable price from knowledgeable, albeit quirky, shop-owners, Village Goldsmith is the way to go! GOOD CONTENT, BUT TERRIBLE PERSONNEL: After making a special trip to the store after work one day, arriving just 10 minutes before their posted closing time as I simply had a few specific questions about a diamond ring my son had looked at there, I found the front doors to the Forestwood Antique Mall to be locked. A young gentleman unlocked the door and tersely stated they close in 10 minutes. I asked if the Village Goldsmith people were still there because I just had a few questions. He told me he thought someone was still back there. I walked to the back corner of the mall to find the Village Goldsmith completely empty and dark. About that time, the same young man yelled for me to come back up front, presumably to speak to the VG employee (or owner) as he was walking out the door. This gentleman had no information for me and stated the answers I was seeking should be on a tag attached to the ring and I would need to come back the next day. He wanted me to know they open at 10 am. I explained that I work during the day and he said to call before I come in next time. (I had called but no one answered.) Regardless, I decided I would try calling today by 5:30 to ask my questions. The woman who answered the phone in the VG told me they pull all of the jewelry daily at 5:00 pm to place in the safe overnight. (Despite that everywhere online it shows they are open until 6:00 pm, and the same for the Mall that was locked at 5:50 pm.) Why no one told me that the day I came inside, I have no idea. Because it appears the mall is full of beautiful and interesting antiques, I will return on a Saturday some time. But, let it be known, personnel are NOT friendly or helpful. And, if you are looking for antique jewelry, by all means, arrive plenty of time BEFORE 5:00 pm, when they start putting everything away. read more

What a wonderful business! I had a few rings I needed to have re-sized and polished. The jeweler did such an amazing job on resizing my rings and had such a fast turn around. Their collection was absolutely beautiful and they have many pieces that can fit within any price range. Their services consist of jewelry repairs & watch repairs, and they can fix Rolex watches, which many companies can not. Customer service wise everyone is very nice and very caring about your needs. Do not use them, you will throw away money if you do. What a terrible experience. This placed ruined my wife's ring and now we have to have a competent jeweler fix what Village Goldsmith did. If you have a cherished antique or vintage piece of jewelry that needs repair this is not the place to take it. Seriously, save yourself the headache and heartache. We brought my wife's vintage ring here for repair thinking that since they deal exclusively in antique jewelry that they would capable of repairing it. We could not have been more wrong. We were assured that all work is done in house by competent jewelers and that the style of the ring would be kept in repairing it but as it turns out the work was contracted out to a jeweler that the owner admitted does not understand antique/vintage design. Believe me, if we were told this at the beginning. We would have NEVER left the ring there. To add to this nobody could tell me where the ring was for almost 2 days and the owner of the store was in reachable. When they finally found out where it was, that's when I was told that the work was contracted out to somebody else and that he does the work at his house. I couldn't believe it when I heard that. Again, not one employee there seemed to think that this was a big deal, everyone I spoke too had no idea what was happening whenever I would call and would tell me something different. I was told several time that I could speak to the owner Eric, he will be here tomorrow so I would call only to be told that he wasn't there. When I was FINALLY able to speak with the owner Eric he flat out lied to me and said the ring never left the shop. When I told him that I had to wait until the ring was delivered to the shop to pick up he hemmed and hawed some lie about maybe it was out of the shop some laser lab. IT GETS WORSE When the ring was finally ready I could not believe how bad the work was. I knew that once my wife saw it she would be heartbroken. After telling them that I thought my wife would be unhappy they suggested that I take it and see what she thought and that we could bring it back to fix it. She hated it of course and so we returned to the shop and spoke with Eric. Eric could not have been more unhelpful. We tried to describe to him what we wanted and he would barely listen, almost like we were wasting his time. I had to practically yell at him to come over and look at an example of what we wanted. We left the ring with hopes and prayers that they could fix it. They couldn't. The work is shoddy and now we have to get what they did to the ring fixed. It's bad enough that we threw away money using them but it's even worse that they caused my wife to be unhappy. read more

My jewelry appraiser recommended Village Goldsmith to work on a gold Baume and Mercier antique watch I found at a pawn shop for $1,000 that appraised for $8,200 -definitely one of my better pawn shop finds! He said there were very few places who could do it and Village Goldsmith was the only one in Dallas he could recommend. The work was fairly extensive as it required a new face, which would be very hard to find. When it was finished I was amazed. He is a Master Appraiser as well so I had him appraise an antique blue topaz and seed pearl ring and matching earrings. (They had gone from $600 to $3200 in the 25 years I had had them.) His fee on the appraisals was very reasonable and I trust him implicitly. He offered to take them on consignment and if I can bear to part with them I will definitely will use him. He sells a lot of antique diamond wedding rings and has a nice selection of antique jewelry especially for such a small establishment. I have been to this store countless times over the years because I appreciate and love vintage jewelry. They have a nice collection and it changes often. I have purchased here, had jewelry appraised, and now in search of another vintage piece. However, today was my last visit. I will never visit the store again. Every time the older tall gentleman is incredibly rude, abrasive, and actually argumentative. It's almost a battle whenever asking him questions about the jewelry. I'm there to ask questions such as carat weight. I may ask again to just clarify, but he makes you feel stupid or ignorant for asking questions, and that's just for starters. He has actually inferred in the past that an item was too expensive for me to afford. In talking about this store over the years I have heard countless complaints from others about their experience as well. They have all described this particular employee in the same way. The way he acts and carries himself leads me to believe he may be the owner, which is shocking. I'm amazed the store has any customers left. I have let the poor customer service go time and time again because I appreciate the jewelry so much, but I will never return. They have lost my business completely. read more

I'm an antique dealer who frequents Forestwood Antique Mall. I bought my vintage diamond wedding ring and antique French diamond pin from Village Goldsmith. My husband gets all this watch batteries there and I've had my Movado watch repaired there as well. Over the years, we've frequented this shop many times. What is unusual about Village Goldsmith is first, they have merchandise you won't find anywhere else - more pocket and collectible vintage watches, cocktail shakers, sterling silver napkin rings along with vintage jewelry like rings, charms and cufflinks that you won't find anywhere else. I know many antique dealers, even the ones in Forestwood where they are located that bring their personal jewelry along with requests for advice or repairs to this shop. What Village Goldsmith can't do in house they send to experts they've come to know over the may years they've been in business - i.e. their pocket watch repair. Fixing a pocket watch is like fixing a classic car- you need to know where you can get the parts with the expertise to do such delicate work. I just read a review where someone was upset that their jewelry was sent out. Well, I have news for them. Neiman Marcus doesn't even string their own pearl repairs in house. I know as I have a friend whose daughter does the work for them. Many of us in retail understand that when you get a closer look at a job, a repair may demand a certain kind of expertise. You get the best and most satisfactory results for a customer when you go outside to someone who does. Even though it's more expensive for us who sell or service -- it's what's needed to get the job done right.
