A friend recommended Al Momentum when I mentioned needing to repair my mother's inexpensive watch. I wanted to buy Mom a new watch, but her dementia demanded that we try to maintain her status quo. Although her watch needed nothing more than a new battery, Mr. Giraldo checked everything out and cleaned it up, inside and out - at no additional charge. Old fashioned service that is rarely seen these days. Al Giraldo is wonderfully easy to work with. I began working with Mr. Giraldo in 2020 while he was dealing with two business challenges that would have been my undoing. As if the Pandemic weren't enough, Al Momentum's shop in Preston Royal was ravaged by the October 2019 tornado that tore through the heart of North Dallas. While the building with his shop is being restored, Mr. Giraldo works out of an apartment across Noel Road from the Galleria, where he meets with customers by appointment in the building's well-lighted lobby with comfortable seating. I was in need of a simple watch repair. I had lost the spring loaded device that holds the watchband to the body of my watch. I visited Al's shop only to find it was under renovation. I telephoned him and he said he was working from home. When I told him what I needed I kinda figured he would decline my request. Instead, he gave me his address and arranged for us to meet. He quickly fixed my problem good as new. I asked how much? He said, there's no charge for something that simple. Al is an honorable man. Between coved and the shop renovation, I imagine his revenue stream has been hurt. Nonetheless, he wouldn't charge me. He performs all sorts of watch and jewelry services and I can tell you when I am in need of something more substantial I will not hesitate to return the favor and go see Al. Great customer service and very pleasant to deal with. . I had to have some stuck ear studs cut of. Also had to change batteries on 3 watches. I brought some batteries i brought of amazon which Al said he doesn't recommend since they were ant to expire n could leak acid. He swore by Swiss batteries which i got for 2 of my nice watches. Paid 30 bucks for 2 battery change and to cut of 3 ear rings. He didn't charge me to change the battery I bought. Al was very pleasant, nice and honest. If I could give more stars, I would. Al has always cleaned our jewelry, replaced batteries, ...you know, the norm for most jewelers. This particular day wasn't the norm. I'm 8 months pregnant, and I'd realized that my wedding band was stuck. Nothing worked: soap, oil, butter, string trick, nothing. So I went to see Al so he could cut it off. It wasn't having it. Long story short: Al ended up having to use an electric blade to saw through my band, and I can't say enough how patient he was! He took his time, kept asking if I was okay, and even reassured me that he was a head trauma surgeon before becoming a jeweler (not even lying, he really was!) Needless to say, Al has amazing skills, wonderful customer service and a great personality! I was looking forward to supporting a locally owned shop, and had a great experience until I realized the charm on my necklace was missing. Employee was careless without the owner there and had the nerve to blame me for his misplacing of my necklace. Twice he talked about how my necklace was gold plated, I know it's not the most expensive but it was a gift and should be treated the same. I am new in Dallas and needed a watch battery. At the mall, I was quoted $60-$100, and when I queried the cost was told it was because my watch is gold and the battery would be replaced while I waited!
