There is no good thing I can say about this restaurant. I have dined there multiple times and had a negative experience each time. Last time I went, my elderly grandfather told the waitress before we even ordered drinks that he was gluten free and could not have anything breaded. So you can understand how much it angered us when his Chicken Parmesan came out breaded. By the time he had finally gotten his new meal, the rest of my family had already finished ours and were waiting on boxes to take the leftovers home. The waitress did not come over once while he waited to see if there was anything she could get him in the meantime or even offer her apologies. After we got his meal, we asked to speak to the manager who our waitress then when and got FROM THW BAR where the manager was SITTING AND HAVING A DRINK. Unacceptable. On top of all of this, the fact that my 11 year old brother could not get a slice of pizza because we were in the seated section of the restaurant is simply ASININE and will be the reasons why this restaurant fails. With so many Italian restaurants in Monroe, why not go to Planet Pizza or Sonny's where everyone can order what they want, and where frankly the food is just as good. All of those problems aside, the soups came out cold, the courses never came out at the same time, and the service was overall slow. The only redeeming thing I can think to say about this restaurant is that my Pasta Fagioli (if that's how you spell it) was ok. Overall, a restaurant that allows their managers to drink on the job while their customers remain unhappy (like we were when uncompensated for the lack of service towards my grandfather) is not a restaurant I will ever dine in again. read more

I really love their food! The reason I am giving them a three is because I ordered calamari, And it was delivered to my house. The calamary was absolutely terrible, and the first batch that you sent was soft, and The Fish Smelt Bad! The second order you sent to my house was microwaved. I also ate that after that. So the pizza place down the street that I like a lot has been out of gluten free crust for a while. Been craving pizza so we ordered from a new place. The pizzas weren't bad and my boyfriend enjoyed the calzone he got. However, we called for pick up on the way home were told ready in 10-15. This actually took 40-50 minutes. The drive took us 20 minutes then we were there waiting for about a half an hour. We got 2 gluten free pizzas and a calzone. For almost $50 I was expecting much better pizzas. The sausage wasn't spicy and very average. This place isn't bad if you want to spend a lot of money on not much food and want to stand and wait. They might do better with not gluten free orders. For a Pizzaria/Restuarant like this I judge a place by the meatballs. His meatbals are not filled with breadcrumb you can taste the meat and they are the size of a tennis balls. I find this restaurant clean, the bartenders pleasant and the waitstaff is warm and friendly. I am glad he moved out of the commons. He is easily accessible now with ample parking. On the Pizzareia side: When it comes to pizza - there isn't any bad pizza, is there? There isnt bad wine either unless its vinegar. This is an overall good place for pizza and the like. In general I love the garden slices as they are loaded with good veggies and taste great. This evening I stopped by and ordered take out. 2 slices and a sausage roll. When I got home, I found out that the sausage roll was actually a chicken parmigiana roll. Not surprised (stuff like this has happened before), I called and spoke to the owner. He apologized and offered to send a sausage roll right out. I agreed. About 45 minutes later (I live 2 miles from the restaurant) the driver got to my door and delivered the "Sausage Roll". I tipped the driver another $5.00 and he left. Well, guess what... it was another chicken parmigiana roll. Almost to the point of laughing... I called back and spoke to a female and she offered to send out another sausage roll. Nothing else! While I have heard the food is decent, I can say based on a friends recent trip I will NEVER visit and will surely let others know about the experience. A friend who went in for a quick bite spent their time being ridiculed and talked about by patrons and even staff. Clearly the management needs to get their staff in order so they treat all cash paying customers with the high level of respect that is deserved. The food at this place is decent but their management is horrible and barely professional. They do not try to please the customer at all when confronted with an issue. Absolutely ridiculous....you would think they would want to give excellent customer service to keep customers coming back and telling others. This is an Italian restaurant, Monroe is full of them. If management doesn't take better care of their customers this company will be closed soon enough like many other places in this town. So what happened this last time that upset me is as follows: I called a little while after 9pm to place an order for delivery, I was told that their delivery man was backed up on orders and can't make it; understandable. I left the comfort of my home around 9:25pm. Once I got there they were completely closed at 9:45pm; claim they close at 10pm. They could have at least told me they were closing soon. I call the next day and spoke to the manager directly and he told me well "sorry but we can't wait for you all night so what do you want us to do?" --I would expect a place closing at 10 to close at 10 esp knowing a customer is on the way. We just absolutely love this restaurant. As far as local places go, it's really hard to beat Positano's. I used to like going to the Woodbury Common location but parking was a bit tough sometimes and during evenings there wasn't much atmosphere (not a lot of people). With this new location, it's real easy to come in and out - and the atmosphere is so much "warmer". I always see lots of people there which means good turnaround of food (i.e. fresher items) and obviously they must be doing something right. I used to love the small bread rolls they had in the Commons but this bread is just as good - hot crusty and chewy. The soups are always so good. We order a lot of things on the menu but my son is just hooked on their Spaghetti and meatballs. To have an 8 y.o. finish a large adult meal with no scolding him to eat faster really says a lot (for those that have smaller children - they will understand this). For our family, this is the comfort food place to go locally. This is not just a standard pizza joint - it has wonderful entrees I can't imagine some of the bad reviews coming in. For example, one says they come here multiple times and all were terrible. Personally, if a place turns me off or rubs me the wrong way, they will rarely get even one chance for a return visit. But to have multiple times being unsatisfied ESPECIALLY if this restaurant hasn't even been here that long (it's a relatively new location), - it doesn't sound right. There's lots of choices in lower Orange County and if something isn't good, I just won't return. Our family and friends though make Positanos as a regular visit and NEVER had a bad meal here or the old location. read more

This used to be a Blockbuster Video. You would never know it from the way it looks now. It doesn't look like much from the outside but I had an excellent time. We brought a party of 7 and the service was good. Very accomodating and polite. The seafood antipasto had way to many muscles and not enough other varieties but it was still really good. I came because there are so many pizza places in Monroe and even though they're all great, I'd like to give each one a chance to find a favorite. I got a slice of chicken bacon ranch and a slice of plain cheese pizza (to-go). The pizza was great. Crispy on the bottom, pretty decent sized slices, and very flavorful yet not too greasy. The only thing I would say about the chicken bacon ranch is that they weren't very generous with the toppings (at all). The reason I give this three stars is because the service was terrible. I greeted them when I walked in and barely heard anything back despite the fact there were two people directly behind the front table, a man and a woman. When the pizza was ready, she put it in a box for me and gestured towards me and said "it's ready," plopped it on the table and walked away. I went over to grab it and took my time waiting to see if the man (who seemed like the owner) would say thank you or even a simple "have a good day." None of that happened even though it was very slow and I was one of three people in the restaurant (the other two had already been helped). There are a ton of great pizza places in the area. What a fun place! Let's just begin there. The atmosphere is super cool (I don't use that word often) but it's the only way to describe it. It's kinda like a trendy little joint in Italy. The bar is huge and amazing. You get to see the pizza makers in action too. I like the 'openness' of it. The place is very clean. I'm very particular with the cleanliness of a restaurant, especially if I can see their pizza makers and of course, their restrooms are pristine. The staff is great. Very attentive. I usually sit at the bar to eat dinner, so I can just give you reference from there. Their house wines are great too. WARNING: Their menu is larger than the bible itself. I think I sat there reading it for over 20 minutes before I decided - NOT exaggerating. They have EVERRRYYYYYTHING. Everything. From pizza with the works, sandwiches, chicken parm, chicken anything, seafood, veal, pork, antipastos (hot or cold), shrimp scampi, calamari, any kind of pasta -- ok ok ok -- you get it. I had a lot of these meals. Not one was a disappointment. The price is very reasonable for this area and totally worth it. My partner and I come here for drinks and appetizers -- sometimes dinner -- but we love to just have fun and enjoy ourselves. My entire family loves this spot and especially since new owners took a hold of it. I honestly can't say one bad thing or 'concern' -- I'm hoping this will be a lifelong Monroe oasis for us. I have been eating here for some time now. There are many dishes that I enjoy here and everything tastes super fresh. However, I don't know why I keep trying to get a personal pizza (pizzetta) with fresh mushrooms. There is a WORLD of difference between fresh and canned mushrooms. I specified fresh mushrooms today to the waitress and voila my pizzetta arrived with canned mushrooms. This has to be at least the third time this has happened. They offered to make me another one but I said no thank you. I was a little surprised when the bill came and they only took the cost of the mushrooms off and not the price of the whole pie. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. HORRIFIC service. Called for delivery and they took our order. Girl on the phone was extremely rude and nasty the whole time. After we gave our credit info the girl told us they wouldn't be here until 215. It was 11 am. It would have been nice to know that before we ordered but we didn't complain and just asked to cancel the order as well as void our payment. The girl got mad, said "its fine. you'll get it at 215." We then asked politely again to have the order voided. She went "aye aye aye. wait a minute." then came back and said she could come at 1130. By this time we were done with the service and just wanted a refund. The girl said they "cant void the payment." We asked for a manager and he was even more rude! He said that the order had been cancelled and then immediately hung up on us. We called back to make sure the cards would be voided and he said "They were never charged." and hung up yet again. I've been ordering from this place for about three years almost every weekend and I also buy their gift cards for the holidays, to give to my neighbors. While they are a bit pricey, the food was always good and staff was polite. On last nights order, the delivery guy clearly dropped the pies I had ordered. The first was missing cheese on some slices which wasn't that big of a deal but the second had slid into a ball on one side of the pizza box. Which whatever, these things happen. When I called I was told the only way I could get a replacement was if drove to their restaurant and I brought the pie back myself. I offered to send a picture and give them the pie back when they arrived. I had already paid for the meal and tipped the driver but they said I had to come in. I used to do deliveries as a kid and had to redeliver many times. I know that the right thing to do is do right by the customer. So disappointed with my experience at Villa Positano tonight. That's putting it lightly. We went for my father's birthday dinner celebration. I was looking forward to it since I knew they were the same owners of Position Grill from the Commons and I had always enjoyed it over there. I was glad to see that they had come back to the area. We had a reservation and sat down promptly, HOWEVER THAT WAS THE LAST GOOD SERVICE FOR THE NIGHT! Actually the bus boys were really good and very attentive. It took 20 minutes for a waitress to come to our table and that was after asking for one! We ordered our drinks and meals since by that time we had ample time to decide what we wanted. An HOUR LATER, we asked where our appetizers were. We had received our salads by that time already. They said the appetizers would be ready in 2 minutes. They were not ready in 2 minutes. No apology was given. We had a 3 year old that was beginning to get a little antsy so before the appetizers came my husband had to leave with him. He had been well-behaved before that. the funny thing is the waitress had shared that she remembers how it was with her kids and that she'll bring his meal out sooner. She turned out to be of no help. When the food FINALLY came, my Ziti Aum Aum felt hot but after eating it I realized the noodles had that "sitting under the heat lamp" taste. Overall service was horrible, food just mediocre, not family friendly. I will not be going back! I am only giving it one star because Yelp is asking me to rate it. I'd rather give it 0. Came here one early afternoon. First time eating in the dining area, as we usually order pizza to go and it's quite delicious, imo. Hubby isn't a big fan of the pizza because he likes a thinner crust. Back to the dining experience. We were seated in the back dining space. It was quite obvious by the disgusting food gracing the carpeting that they DO NOT clean the restaurant nightly. Management: how dare you accept customers into a filthy dining room that's been uncleaned from the previous day??? Also, why have a nasty carpet at all? It is a magnet for germs and dust mites! They messed up my kid's order when she explicitly asked for a margherita slice. She had to wait until we were almost done before her order came out. Hubby's food was so obviously refrigerated then reheated. The veggies were wilted and old. They didn't even try to hide the fact it wasn't fresh. The moulding near our booth was caked in dust. No music, so it was a cafeteria feel. Waitress was flat and didn't check on us once. In this homogenously-minded town, there's about a half dozen pizzerias in the vicinity. the space is very nice since it use to be the old Blockbuster... the staff was great until I asked for warm water to make a baby bottle and their words to me were they only have hot or cold.???????? im extremely confused on why they couldn't take a glass and fill it half hot and cold to make warm water. I mean this is not rocket science. After about 15-20 minutes they gave me a bottle of water that was room temperature. so im like was that the case you wanted me to by a bottle of water??? and it was my birthday 1st time going to this place..........
