This is not a normal "guest house" in the sense of a B&B where you gather each morning with others to eat breakfast. Instead, this is a single studio in the same building as the owner's house with its own entry. It very much feels like your own studio apartment in Burlington. The owners have an excellent design sense, probably because they're artists themselves. The studio is roomy with high ceilings and original artwork on the walls. There is a kitchen, a sitting area, a small eating table, and a very comfortable queen size bed with hardwood floors throughout. Besides some temporary construction going on next door, the studio was absolutely quiet as you are on the upper floor and insulated well from the owner's place. There's also parking. The studio is a bit off the beaten path of downtown Burlington, but is an easy drive or long walk in, and overlooks the Winooski River. Much closer are the University of Vermont and a secondary urban area north of downtown that has its own shops and restaurants. A couple things to be mindful of when you book that weren't necessarily apparent to us: simple breakfast food is provided in the studio (granola, milk, cider, fruit, coffee, etc.) but is not served as a formal sitting each day in a separate dining room somewhere. Your room is also not cleaned each day as in a traditional B&B or hotel. Fortunately the space is so large and with plenty of eating options within a short distance, these were non-issues. We liked Burlington so much I'm sure we'll return within the year and will definitely stay at Dubuque Lane again.

The only issue I had was being told there was a $100 hold that was going to be placed on my card to check in. I explained that I didn't want my money tied up for god knows how long and to avoid that I opted to walk to the nearby gas station to get $200 cash instead. I get back and proceeded to check in just for him to still take the $100 dollar hold off of my card. Now I have $300 tied up for a room that was supposed to be $80 flat. Nice customer service but you have to do better when you're dealing with people finances.

The suite is immaculate and the gardens in the back are beautiful and serene. It's walking distance to Church St. Marketplace and Waterfront park. It's not a traditional B&B but more of a grab and go which is perfectly fine with me since there are lots of places to eat within 3 blocks. Do yourself a favor and don't stay in a hotel, you would be missing out on a gem.

The "not set up for credit cards" is a plus for me - I like the notion that merchants are pushing back on the high bank fees. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Plenty of towels While there is not hot breakfast served there was plenty available in the room's fridge: grass fed cows milk, Vermont cheddar, 4 containers of stonyfield yogurt, granola made by local coop, freshly ground coffee, etc...and the needed utensils/dishes The suite had fans and AC...but since I do not like AC, I loved having the fans available. all in all - a nice experience.

It was super convenient to the airport as well as public transportation to both downtown Burlington as well as a closer shopping center and nearby Williston. Having the kitchenette was incredibly convenient for reheating leftovers and a quick breakfast the morning we flew out. For the day we had a rental car, parking was easy and access was convenient and safe. We had good space and everything we needed and loved the small town/local vibe. I highly recommend and would use this facility again, and here's why: My reservation was unplanned, and I was very pleasantly surprised with the remarkable professionalism of Michael Oakes, the property manager, and his team. As for the room it was impeccable, And contained every convenience one would want for a long or short or long-term stay. It was clean I could not identify anything wrong or missing with this it. The refrigerator is a midsize, btw, complete with separate freezer compartment; and the climate control is handled by a mini split so everything was up to par, modern and again another pleasant surprise. We've never had a hotel text us before so it was very nice knowing how helpful they are with their customers. They truly care about their business. The room was exceptionally clean and the beds were cozy. Though the inn itself is small (with about 10 rooms total), it felt safe and secure. Our room (7) had a fridge and microwave in it, two extra blankets, a fan, space heater, AC, shampoo, conditioner, and there was a little goody bag for us. I love that they have breakfast in bags set out in the fridge for everyone. Our bags had an apple, hard boiled egg, yogurt, granola bar, and apple juice. There is a ton of grass area for dogs IF you get a pets-allowed room. If you come in and don't tell them you have a pet, they will charge you $50 so it's best to be honest. I put four stars instead of 5 because there are some strict rules here. Let's aren't allowed on the beds and they will charge you for dog hair on the sheets. You also have to crate your dog if you leave them in the room (because if your dog is crying and they can't get a hold of you, they will go into your room). Pet owners clearly have made the rules like this for a reason. There are also major quiet rules and they ask that you don't shut your car doors and hotel doors loudly. They also have a wash cloth set out for makeup use only and will charge you $40 if you ruin the other towels. So it felt like walking on eggshells sometimes with all of these rules. However, it is owned by a husband and wife and they want to make sure everything stays nice. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and there's a nice river running through behind the inn. There's also a garden and a large fire pit with plenty of seating. On top of that, there's a game room with a pool table, fooseball table, board games, and more (outside of rooms 7 and 8). This is a very cute inn and as long as you follow the rules, you're all set for a nice vacation in the mountains!

We got an actual suite here which had a fully stocked kitchen, not just a kitchenette like most hotels I've stayed at. This was fortuitous since we were so weary of eating out every meal. At home here in Reno we don't go out very much at all since I enjoy cooking. We found a great grocery store similar to Sprouts off the main strip in the downtown area. I was able to pick up things just to make us a home cooked meal. This suite provided us with all the essentials to make a nice meal. The rate included a complimentary breakfast and it was all very fresh and yummy. Sorry no pics I was getting tired of taking so many on the trip and I'm so NOT one to be glued to my cell. I'm sure I left it in the room. I was overwhelmed drinking through Vermont and kept commenting on how the highway was lined with Christmas Trees! It's just breathtaking here. It really felt like a country cottage without seeming run down or outdated. The pictures of the rooms are accurate in my experience, which I haven't always found in other small hotels being a bargain shopper. Shelley and Don who run the Cadence Lodge (I assume they are the owners) were totally friendly and accommodating. Also, they have a restaurant at Cadence from Thursday through Sunday which was great. I went there one night and also went out to dinner in Lake Placid another night, and my meal at Cadence was definitely better. The proximity to Whiteface, a 5 minute drive, can't be beat. The next time I am in the Lake Placid area I will not shop around, I will just stay at Cadence for sure.
