Ausable Chasm
Randy P.

This is a great place to stay if your in the Plattsburgh or Peru area. The rooms are nice, very clean and some have kitchenettes if you want to cook. There is also a bbq, horseshoe pit and campfire that the guests could use. If you have a boat, there's plenty of room for boat parking and things are safe. It's only about 7 minutes from the Peru boat launch and about 16 minutes from the downtown Plattsburgh launch ramp. If your a tourist, it's only about two miles from the Ausable Chasm, which is in the picture posted. I have stayed here twice now for fishing and can't wait to get back here many more times!

Had the most wonderful stay at the Shamrock Inn. All newly remodeled beautiful rooms/cabins and such a comfortable home feeling. The kitchenette in our room was an added perk. Located just down the road from Ausable Chasm and close to many other adventures: Lake Placid, Lake Champlain, Cumberland Head ferry to Vermont, golfing, hiking, kayaking, etc. The owner, Ann Marie is amazingly friendly, hospitable, helpful and accommodating! There is also a nice fire pit to sit around and visit! Highly recommended!!

I stayed in a 3rd floor suite on June 8-11, 2025 shortly after a major renovation of all the rooms…read more I have stayed in suites in this Microtel many times previously and been very satisfied. This time it was very unsatisfactory due to changes made during the renovation. I've never seen a renovation where the rooms were made WORSE. They had removed the coffee table, a small rectangular table with two chairs where I used to eat my dinner and conduct business, and also the end table next to the couch so there was nowhere to put my purse, backpack, books, etc. They had also removed the closet area and replaced it with a few "knobs" with hangers. They had also removed a long shelf in the bathroom where I used to put my toiletries, now forcing me to leave them at the side of the sink or on the floor. Also removed any towel rods in the bathroom, again replacing them with colored "knobs" that look like something out of an IKEA showroom. I inquired at the desk if the removal of the furniture was permanent, if the table and chairs and coffee table would be put back. The clerk was not sure and said there was some furniture "on order" that had not arrived yet. She said "we don't like it either" referring to the removal of so many features from the rooms. I will not be staying in this property again unless there is furniture in the room! There is no place to sit and eat and nowhere to put many of my belongings.

This was rated one of the highest including big chain hotels usually 3+ stars or higher. I arrived, lots of parking and lights outside. The property is pretty new in the area. Lobby bright and clean. Front desk check in was easy and friendly enough. Elevator was quick, clean and bright. Hallway signs to Rooms were marked perfectly!! Hotel hallway very clean and quiet. Rooms are large, beds firm, furnished great. Only missing a coffee maker, it has refrigerator and microwave. Nice desk, lots of drawers and storage. Plenty of comfortable pillows. Heat and ac work great. Bathroom was nice, good size tub. Plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner and soap. Good lighting throughout the room. Continental breakfast is good. Lots of choices. Coffee maker was great, needs a larger cup (my complaint). Morning front desk staff, very very pleasant and full of info. Will stay here again!

I am obligated to tell people this. Pros and cons of living at The Villa Motel. Take it from…read moresomeone who lived there. Pros:Close to Ausable Chasm, stores and restaurants. You can meet some nice and cool people. Cons:Look at those pictures. They're how old? Open 24 hours? That's a lie. The manager is almost NEVER, EVER ¹ there. They break the "Good Cause Eviction Law" by evicting me for non payment of rent even after showing the court proof that my rent was paid. John Sikandar will not fix ANYTHING no matter how many times you ask him. He says one thing and does another. He is VERY greedy. He has given up on trying to save The Villa Motel. He doesn't takecare of anything anymore. He tore down the trailers in the back. Why? Bed bugs EVERYWHERE. Me and my girlfriend killed well over 400 of them. We didn't have them before moving there. Banging and other noises from next doot. An attachment for my bike that REALLY helped with the groceries was stolen from right outside my room. The wheels were stolen later. My bike was stolen after. You are profiled by people who drive by. They yell out insults all the time. A rental record that will haunt you as much as a bad rap sheet. People who threaten you right outside your room and tell you what to do. Remember the murders? The parents of the baby that was murdered were allowed to walk off the property and not charged. Even after the mother was arrested on an unrelated incident. So murder is legal there and rape and burglary. The suspects on those happenings were never caught, investigated or charged. What if it was you and no Justice was served? Read about all the overdoses too and fights between the tenants and the managers. Watch my YouTube channel (Gohan Barracuda) you can see it. The judge ruled in his favor and some girl claiming to be his sister we've never seen before (therefore she knew nothing pertaining to the matter at hand) sat in for him and didn't say a word. They are going to charge more for the room now, which is illegal. Read up on the Real Property Law. If this hasn't convinced you to avoid this place like the Bubonic Plague, I don't know what will.

I heard one of the cleaning women yell at a little girl cause she was playing outside. I hear one of the cleaning women call a man retarded. They don't change the bed spreads or the sheets. They spend less then 5 minutes in the rooms to clean. When we were staying here they had to have the orkan man come in and spray for bed bugs, and they didn't even do all the rooms. I have seen so much in just a short amount of time. I will never stay here ever again. If ur on dss. They won't give u towels or cleaning supplies. Not even toilet paper. They won't help u with anything. But if u ask for something, they will yell at u. When we got here the floor was filthy, beds were disgusting, used our own sheets and blankets. It was just a terrible place to end up.

I only have one criticism. While the A/C was working, we had difficulty regulating it to feel comfortable. It was rather cold and clammy at night, but by morning, we felt fine. It wasn't so much the cold part that bothered me, but the clammy part was what got to me. Everyone kept saying how unseasonably hot and humid it was for Stowe, so who knows... maybe the A/C just had difficulty regulating itself... or we didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was a little uncomfortable some of the time. The room overall, though, was really great. Also, we loved that they had Netflix and Amazon Prime, so we could settle into the shows we were missing while traveling. That was a nice surprise ! Most hotels don't offer any of that. We had planned to dine out at one of the local restaurants, but we found out they were serving dinner at Grant's, the inn's restaurant. We were tired after traveling around all day, so we stayed at the inn and ate a great meal at Grant's. (See separate review for that.) Also, the common areas in the main building next to the restaurant are very tastefully appointed, spacious, with lots of games, books and sitting areas for people to utilize. We walked around them to see what there was but returned to our room to relax and watch some of our shows. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. One night in Stowe just isn't enough, especially at the Stowe Village Inn. Let's hope there will be a next time !

If you are banished to the closet-size rear rooms, you might want to re-think your accommodation choice. Yes, the back tiny rooms might be a step up from wilderness camping, but still. I thought I was getting a nice modest room in a lovely inn for an overnight before attending an early a.m. meeting the next day also in Peru. What I did not bank on was a closet-size room that was overheated, barely enough room to walk around the bed, and struggling for over half an hour to get the wifi connected since there was no writing table or chair to do something other than lie in bed, so I thought at least I could watch a new episode of Goliath. No luck with the internet. There's a text number you can call (text) for help, who told me that the rooms in the back don't really have internet connectivity -- despite representations online and in fact even in the room. Joke's on me! Eventually the unnamed texter allowed me to move to a front of the Lake room for the internet. Much of the experience had me mentally comparing it to wilderness camping, as in: well there's running water, which is better than . . . camping outdoors. And it was clean and didn't have me wondering about the person who stayed before. So there's that. But someone in management should sleep in the rooms and see all that is lacking to be comfortable for overnight guests. Here's what they might think about providing in the room for the comfort of future guests: A trash can. A water glass. A shelf in the bathroom for toiletries and the like. Bedside tables with outlets. A box of tissues in the bathroom. Oh and the drains for the sink and shower were SLOW. The shower that is the smallest I have ever experienced is a challenge. There is no way to get out of the way as the water temperature fluctuates greatly from scorching hot to cold. And just try to turn on the water in the shower without it spraying over the bathroom floor! Quite a challenge in the a.m! One hand towel, that's all you get. Fortunately lots of large towels, which are handy to mop up shower water sprayed out to the floor. Oddly the "kitchen" is in the hallway right outside one or two of the rooms (including mine, unfortunately) because if people decide to set up camp over the coffeemaker, you're gonna wake up then because the walls are thin. Same for your next door neighbor's bathroom, which is really your closet. This despite the texter's insistence that the reason the wifi does not work in the back is because of the age of the building and the super-thick walls. Hah! Not in the hallways. But . . . the magnificent view of Lake Champlain in the morning! Almost makes up for the near-camping, rustic, non-luxurious accommodations. But that view does not come cheap. That is if you reserve and pay for the high priced rooms rather than go through the agony of trying to hook up wifi in vain and then complaining and the anonymous person lets you change rooms, which is a route I do not recommend. The downstairs/lobby level is oddly sparsely furnished. They could set the coffee up there since there's a lot of unused space. But I imagine that's the conference center part. Good luck!
