I have only good things to say about this place. I used Expedia to make the reservation. After reading mostly wonderful reviews I was really curious and anxious to check out Mountain Brook Lodge myself. Plus, we were attending the Whiteface Oktoberfest and it was a perfect location in the little town of Wilmington just a short drive from our point of our interest. Before hitting the road, we called the owner to make sure he was expecting us because we knew we'd be arriving late. It wasn't a problem, he even told us to drive carefully and not to hurry. He was very comforting saying our room will be ready and waiting for our arrival. He gave us the room's number, so we could focus only on getting to our destination and not worry about anything else. After arriving I was deeply touched. Our room was not only ready for us, but with warm lights, a quiet TV on, and a slowly spinning ceiling fan. We felt extremely invited. The atmosphere was homey and cozy. After many hours on the road it was exactly what we needed and even more. Our accommodations were clean and pretty. Even the shower had a new curtain for us. Breakfast was basic, but I don't have bagels often and it was like a treat, toasted with butter and cream cheese, yum! There was more stuff to eat but I remember the delicious bagels the most and hard boil eggs of which I'm a big fan. I met the owner and shared my appreciation for his hospitality. He has a dog. The dog looked like a statue at first, but he was just chilling and it was easy to take picture of him. This unusual looking fellow was seated perfectly still for my photo and got little bit excited around my breakfast, but so was I, so it was totally understandable. After that I knew he was alright. The breakfast area was a great spot for having a morning meal or coffee during the day or just relaxing reading paper etc. Our room wasn't with 'a view' like I expected, but honestly I didn't know what to expect. The biggest window was in the front, a typical motel style setting. During the day, being located closer to the road could be little bit annoying because of the traffic noise. Stayed here a few days in October and it was great. Al, the owner and a Vietnam veteran, will check you in and do everything he can to make your stay enjoyable. I had reservations for two nights that I made with Al the owner three months in advance. I confirmed my reservations a week prior to arrival. When I arrived to the hotel the office was closed, it was only 7:30pm. I called the office and Al answered, he told me he sold the room to other guests. He said it was an honest mistake. Hotel rooms were all booked up all around Lake Placid and further out. I finally found a room closer to Lake Placid but for more money. The owners Al and Alicia are friendlier than a hug-a-gram from Richard Simmons. I called on the phone and spoke with both of them at different times...they were one of the only (if not the only) place that actually listens the customer and were willing to accommodate me for the weekend even though I couldn't stay Friday night. 75% of the places I called responded with "Friday and Saturday" only...and hung up. They are the most affordable area option...our room with 2 double beds was $89/night. They give nice hugs (so the hug-a-gram reference is not far off) Their rooms have mini fridges for your Wilderness Inn leftovers. Al recommended the Wilderness Inn for dinner just down the road. After a long day of pigging out on our drive up and pigging out again at the Whiteface Oktoberfest, there was no way I could eat a large prime rib. Al even called the restaurant and got us a reservation with 10% discount card that he and his wife signed. They cranked up the campfire and all the tenants came out to drink and be merry. Sharing stories, coffee, cheese and booze. The continental breakfast is a veritable smorgasbord of grub. I'm a regular guy and to help me stay regular, I highly endorse the Mountain Brook Lodge. Our room was very comfortable and clean...even though the shower was designed for Frodo Baggins newborn child. No complaints... If you get weirded out by ultra-friendly strangers...maybe this is the place for you, but other than that. RECOMMENDED for High Peaks accommodations. read more

My business colleague discovered this amazing gem of an inn for a recent business trip to Lake Placid. I am hooked! The innkeepers, Al & Alicia, offer such a fun and welcoming experience, you won't want to leave. Al is a retired Marine Corps 1Sgt, so you can stand easy and know the quarters are shipshape. The rooms: Room 14 (a single), easily accomodated 2 adults. Double bed, futon/love seat, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, microwave (with popcorn!!), fridge, air conditioner, cute litttle faux wood stove, ceiling fan & a sweet retrro-50s bathroom with a 21st century shower head. There's a cool fire pit on the grounds surrounded by (what else) Adirondack chairs. Guests and hosts congregate and share their day, swap yarns, share libations. I was In LP working every evening and missed out on this fabulous laid-back feature that makes Mountain Brook what it is. There's a pool!! An outdoor pool that had JUST closed. Breakfast included!!! Not just burnt coffee & crappy pastries. Fruit, cereal, eggs (protein, yes!!!), bagels, along with the rest of what is expected. This could be called a Big Ass Continental breakfast. Complimentary newspapers. Large screen TV in the breakfast area of the lodge. However, who would want to watch telly when, facing the other way out the picture windows is Whiteface Mountain? Obligatory gift shop with standard gift shop items. I can't say enough about the good vibes and positive energy of Al and Alicia, the owners. Free hugs abound. The best feature, however, is BamBam, the resident bulldog. She's a delight, and a natural choice to be a mascot for an inn owned by a retiree Marine. I won't discuss LP, Whiteface, and all there is to do there, as you already know that if you are looking for accomodations in the area. If you want to pay more and have an impersonal experience, stay somewhere else. If you are coming up to play, and want to keep playing with fun people, stay in a great room, get VIP treatment, pick up the phone. Now. You will check in as a tired traveller. I stayed at Mountain Brook Lodge two nights and had the most amazing experience here. I was traveling alone, and Al and Alicia went above and beyond in making me feel same and welcomed. They encouraged me to check in with them and let them know where I'd be heading as I was on a solo mission to hike 4 peaks over the weekend. I would say this was the best hotel/inn stay I've ever experienced and even brought up in a phone conversation with my mom one evening how great Al and Alicia were. As for the amenities, I was not disappointed. This is not a drab and dingy inn, it's beautifully furnished with high quality amenities. The bed was comfy, the room was very clean and well maintained, the in-room coffee was great (not the watered down generic coffee you typically get for free!), and maybe best of all, the bath towels were soft and thick! Not the thin and rough towels you typically get at other places. I can't express enough how happy I was staying here - top quality amenities and amazing hospitality. This was my first visit to Mountain Brook Lodge and it was great! I'll definitely be back. I have stayed at several places in the High Peaks region and am finding myself gravitating towards Wilmington more and more. It's a short drive from Wilmington to Lake Placid or Keene/Keene Valley (not to mention on the doorstep of Whiteface). They have their own restaurants that are apparently worth checking out. And now, I have found a awesome little Lodge that beats the prices of LP and is higher quality than any others I have found in the price range. Mountain Brook has clean, tastefully adorned rooms for affordable prices. The owners are great and everyone was very nice. I can't believe it has taken me this long to find this place! read more

We stayed here over a Summer weekend while I attended a mountain bike race. First and foremost, the people are super friendly and will make sure all of your needs are attended to. I'm serious, it was the same level of service we had received at an Omni a month prior. They even went so far as leaving the lobby door unlocked overnight so I could get to the ice machine at 5am as I was getting ready for my race (which started at 7am). Plus, the motel style courtyard caters to the guests interacting which adds to the sense of being in your old neighborhood. They even host a fire-pit get-together some evenings. The room was nice. The motif, as you can see, is a rustic, ski lodge look. The bed was quite soft and comfortable. The room was clean and had a good number of small amenities such as coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. The shower was a bit small, but the classic pink tiles made up for it. Though we didn't eat there, they had a wide array of breakfast items in the shop. The best thing was the price was very reasonable. For two nights, it was just under $170. When we are in the area again, we will certainly stay here again. PS. We accidentally left with the ice bucket. Doh! We are mailing it back. read more

Mountain Brook Lodge epitomizes Adirondack rustic charm. The inn keeper is possibly the most hospitable person I have ever met in the hotel business. At night the hotel guests, ranging from age 19 to about 70, gathered and enjoyed a bonfire with Al and his adorable bulldog, Bam Bam. I discovered that several of the guests plan a vacation to this motel a couple times a year because they like it so much. Our room's homey décor included a loveseat, solid pine wood paneling, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, and a cute pink shower. It was immaculately clean with a comfortable bed and lush soft thick towels. A plentiful continental breakfast with many choices was provided in a pleasant breakfast room. LOVED this place! Great place in the Lake Placid area, for a great price. Cozy, clean rooms (feels like you're in a cottage) and free breakfast! Al was super nice and gave us great tips for fun things to do in the area. He also welcomed us with free beer and wine and a 10% discount card to a nearby restaurant--so sweet! Its also a very quick drive to Whiteface mountain (Wilmington is actually closer to the mountain than Lake Placid) I highly recommend Mountain Brook Lodge and will definitely be going there next time I go snowboarding at Whiteface. read more
