It's a tidy, smallish, clean room with a very comfortable bed and en suite bathroom that features a stand in shower. The decor in the room is nicely quirky and the room is in the front of the building, facing the town park, lake, and the main road through town. A window mounted air conditioner provides capable, quiet cooling. There was a bit of noise one morning as a group of motorcycles passed by but it was a minor issue. The lobby of the Inn is on the side of the building - there is an obvious sign. Check-in was handled by a gentleman named Anthony. Keys (real keys) were provided for the room and for the lobby door as the lobby was locked after hours. Anthony walked through the policies, toured the public areas of the hotel, and then a tour of the room. All of the rooms are upstairs - I don't recall seeing an elevator and the stairs are a bit narrow. There's a coffee maker in the hall for free coffee and snacks and cold beverages that are $1 each on the honor system. The Inn offers a buffet breakfast for $20. I didn't partake in the breakfast due to my dietary preferences but my traveling companions mentioned that it was a standard and satisfactory offering - eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, cereal, tea, and coffee. The public areas are on the main level. There's a comfy, well stocked library, an interesting collection of art, a gift shop, and some outside seating. The Inn sits across the street from a town park that sits on the lake. It has a pavilion and some seating scattered about. The free Wi-Fi was always available and seemed adequate. Parking is available on the street for free. The Westport Marina is just down the hill from the Inn and includes The Galley Restaurant and Bar along with a gift shop and full service docking facilities. JAMBS on Main is a block away. It's a deli and offers a variety of fresh morning coffees along with fresh, warm pastries. I do recommend the Inn and would stay there again if my travels took me to Westport.

The motel's office was really the owner's living quarters- basically it was a living room and bedroom with a 15-foot service counter. Between cigarette coughs, the owner checked us in and introduced us to her dog Bailey- named in honor of Bailey's Irish Cream. Yeah, that kind of set the tone. One of the prominent landmarks at the Hilltop Motel is it's 20-foot tall satellite dish that was apparently last maintained during the Carter administration. It sets new standards in the international world of paint-peeling competition. Despite the gargantuan satellite dish, the TV in the room only pulled in 5 stations, and two of them were duplicates. And as for the ambience in our room, well, let's suffice to say that it was an old-school motel room. Old showers, old windows, old everything. At least it was cheap

They took us in on a very snowy Thursday night... blizzard conditions. We had the Jay room a king size bed and queen futon. It was my husband and our two daughters. Nothing was open for dinner as the town had closed because of the weather - the innkeeper made us cheddar scallion scones fresh out of the oven they were delicious. The inn is classic Adirondack wide plank floors fieldstone fire place.. big porch with Adirondack chairs. The room was large and had its own bathroom. Nothing fancy but absolutely perfect. The room: We asked for a room with a view and rustic surroundings when we booked. The room was nothing as expected. We had a view of the parking lot. We also learned as soon as we arrived the room had no lock on it. The owner felt that it was not necessary and assured us we should not be concerned. In this day and age, a lock IS necessary! The bathroom: We had a jacuzzi hoping to enjoy a hot bath after a long day of hiking. Well, when we tried the jacuzzi, the hot water knob kept falling off. Went to the owner and he basically just pushed it back on and said it was not a big issue. The timer on the jacuzzi kept shutting off within a few minutes so we had to keep pushing the jet button for it to work continuously. The bathroom had other problems. The center light had a bulb out. There was no shower curtain (I reported this as well). There was a shelf in the bathroom that was missing completely. Very rustic indeed! The bedroom: The "queen" bed was 2 single beds pushed together so me and my husband could not sleep near each other otherwise we would sink in the middle. After hiking all day, we passed out each night anyway, but this was a pretty pathetic sleeping situation. Breakfast: No breakfast was served at this B&B when we stayed since the cook didn't work on the days we stayed. Okay, I could handle that but not even coffee was available in the morning unless you used the Kuerig in the kitchen that was for the guests. We could have waited until one of the owners got up to make a real pot, but at this point, I opted to go get food at the diner. The last straw: We came back to our room one day after a long day of hiking and the door to our room was wide open. We believe the cleaning lady must have had to leave suddenly (I'm guessing) since there was some cleaning supplies left in the room. This was the final straw, and since we were leaving the next day, I never said anything to the owners about this. By this point, I was pretty much done with this place as you can imagine. Honestly, so much was wrong with this place, I would never go back. Stay here at your own risk.

As another reviewer had said, I hesitate to leave a review because it's tempting to keep the lodge a "hidden gem." Heehee. To note for light sleepers who are not early risers: The suite is adjacent to the kitchen, so it is fairly easy to hear the early morning food prep, particularly from the room with the twin beds. Bringing an extra fan or sound machine would probably be a good idea.
