Ended up her because there were white out conditions on the way to Montreal... we had passed this place so many times and always thought it to be charming. We were so right! They took us in on a very snowy Thursday night... blizzard conditions. We had the Jay room a king size bed and queen futon. It was my husband and our two daughters. Nothing was open for dinner as the town had closed because of the weather - the innkeeper made us cheddar scallion scones fresh out of the oven they were delicious. The inn is classic Adirondack wide plank floors fieldstone fire place.. big porch with Adirondack chairs. The room was large and had its own bathroom. Nothing fancy but absolutely perfect. Fabulous inn meticulously maintained. Our snowy retreat was warmed by the innkeepers. I couldn't think of a single thing we went without. The property is well maintained, the amenities are thoughtful, the breakfasts (both onsite and offsite) were delicious, and the location was perfect for east access to hiking, ice/rock climbing, and sightseeing. An extra perk is the no-drive access for fabulous trailheads. This is our new, go-to inn for our Adirondack adventures! read more

Very disappointed. I'm keeping this brief but wanted to warn others because some of the issues we had staying here. The room: We asked for a room with a view and rustic surroundings when we booked. The room was nothing as expected. We had a view of the parking lot. We also learned as soon as we arrived the room had no lock on it. The owner felt that it was not necessary and assured us we should not be concerned. In this day and age, a lock IS necessary! The bathroom: We had a jacuzzi hoping to enjoy a hot bath after a long day of hiking. Well, when we tried the jacuzzi, the hot water knob kept falling off. Went to the owner and he basically just pushed it back on and said it was not a big issue. The timer on the jacuzzi kept shutting off within a few minutes so we had to keep pushing the jet button for it to work continuously. The bathroom had other problems. The center light had a bulb out. There was no shower curtain (I reported this as well). There was a shelf in the bathroom that was missing completely. Very rustic indeed! The bedroom: The "queen" bed was 2 single beds pushed together so me and my husband could not sleep near each other otherwise we would sink in the middle. After hiking all day, we passed out each night anyway, but this was a pretty pathetic sleeping situation. Breakfast: No breakfast was served at this B&B when we stayed since the cook didn't work on the days we stayed. Okay, I could handle that but not even coffee was available in the morning unless you used the Kuerig in the kitchen that was for the guests. We could have waited until one of the owners got up to make a real pot, but at this point, I opted to go get food at the diner. The last straw: We came back to our room one day after a long day of hiking and the door to our room was wide open. We believe the cleaning lady must have had to leave suddenly (I'm guessing) since there was some cleaning supplies left in the room. This was the final straw, and since we were leaving the next day, I never said anything to the owners about this. By this point, I was pretty much done with this place as you can imagine. Honestly, so much was wrong with this place, I would never go back. Stay here at your own risk. read more

We stayed here recently and loved it. We were in the Jay Room, which was very large and had its own bathroom and sitting area. Breakfast was delicious both mornings - we got to choose what we wanted the night before. We felt safe with their Covid policies, as they had self check-in and for breakfast, they were only seating one party every 10 minutes and seating them as far as possible away from each other in the very large dining room. We were seated right next to a fireplace, and there was soft jazz music playing. The tasty homemade cookies in our room upon arrival were a really nice touch. There were plenty of common areas downstairs to hang out in, although we didn't utilize them. A nice perk is that if you check out, you are still welcome to come back later in the day and use their mud room bathrooms to shower or freshen up. I look forward to staying here again! read more

What a delightful weekend stay at Trails End. We stayed in the Terry Room which overlooks the expansive front lawn....perfect for stargazing. From the welcome coffee and cookies to the crackling fireside couches for reading, from the clean and tidy guest rooms to the adjacent trails and pond, Trails End is just as promised! An added bonus this weekend was observing the construction of two very large garden beds on the grounds. We look forward to fresh herbs and vegetables when we stop back in over the summer. Wow what a wonderful place! No details are spared in this place it is so Adirondacki and so beautiful! The rooms are perfect and the beds are so comfortable. This place is immaculately clean! Our stay for a long weekend during the peak season wasn't particularly exceptional but totally acceptable. The room, bed, and the premise was clean and neat. Privacy: It wasn't one of those inns that you get to talk to or know the innkeepers. Check-in was self-served. There was no one to tell us what to do or show us around (perhaps we arrived late?). The innkeepers were not seen most of the time. I didn't expect that, but I wasn't bothered by it. I generally hate the socializing in B+B's so this was interesting. The whole experience was "private." I liked it that way. Breakfast: Breakfast is served between 7.30 to 9am. I was like, "OMG, I was so not going to get up that early!" But they sneaked us in when we asked them. Well, thank you! It could all be arranged if you ask. You get to choose between different juices and sides. Food was basic and standard. Quirks: The walls and doors are particularly thin. So you'd hear a lot of noise in the morning. If you want to sleep late, beware. Also, note that you can only lock the doors from the inside with a small latch. After we told the staff that the heat was not on, and they brought us a space-heater when we came back to our room. And we loved Sherry, she was completely friendly and sweet! read more

Trail's End Inn - The lovely dining, room where delicious breakfast is served - Hotels Near Me - Keene Valley, New York

We recently returned from our first anniversary trip and loved the Trail's End Inn! We stayed in the Skylight room which was one of the three new rooms added to the end of the inn. The new rooms all have fireplaces and jetted tubs. We used the fireplace and tub multiple times and it really made our stay relaxing. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We had french toast, egg quiche, and an egg tart during our stay, and all meals included coffee, juice, fresh fruit and a homemade baked goods. The maple nut scones were fantastic. The staff is around if you need them, but as noted they give you your privacy. You can use the fireplace, TV, and game room in the main house as needed, and there is always coffee, soda, water and snacks around at all times of the day. There are plenty of hiking trails nearby Keene Valley, with an excellent diner and small grocery store in town. Lake Placid and Whiteface are an easy drive about half an hour north, with the other Olympic attractions on the way including cross country skiing, bobsled and ski jumping. We'll be back to the Trail's End Inn for sure. read more

We have stayed at the Trail's End Inn twice now and just for the record, we will be returning. Our first stay, we couldn't get two nights in the same room so we switched rooms. Our first was the Hurricane which I absolutely love (so much I hate putting it in this review for fear it will be booked next time we rent it!) It has it's own bathroom, kitchen/dining area, TV and separate bedroom. The windows open to the woods and it's so quiet and private. You also have your own entrance. The night we stayed was in early May and we were able to just crack open the windows and allow a breeze in the bedroom. Perfect! The second room was downstairs in the Esther room. It had a smaller bathroom with a large tub, a fireplace and an entrance shared with a couple other rooms. We could hear when people would climb up and down the stairs outside the room and didn't feel it had as much natural light as the Hurricane. The bathroom is also tiny with a small pedestal sink. Breakfast was average- eggs and potatoes and bacon. Lots of options of juice, coffee, etc. Our last stay we only stayed one night in the Hurricane room. I would have given it 5 stars but it was chilly and we had an electric fireplace in our room which we wanted to use. Unfortunately, we couldn't figure it out so we called the innkeeper. She was pretty apathetic about it not working and said she'd talk to someone else but never got back to us. A bit of a bummer since one of the things we loved about the room was the small fireplace. A couple things to note: -If you're going hiking, they had a mud room that's fully stocked with a bunch of hiking gear to borrow. Use it! -They have coffee in the room but there's more options in a little kitchen off the main entryway. Lots of yummy flavors. -The homemade cookies are fantastic, make sure you get one before they're gone! -Breakfast is done in a family style so you may have to sit with other guests you don't know. -If you don't have a reservation and end up in the area, they take walk ins. The prices for the rooms are discounted from when you book ahead, but they do book up so be careful! -There isn't a check-in really other than you signing your name next to your room. If you need keys you can request them from the innkeeper. This is a very "hands off" B&B. Except for at breakfast I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see the innkeepers during your whole stay. We liked this because of the privacy. read more

I just returned home after staying 2 nights at the Inn. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable all the furniture, including the mattress was. The house had character and it was full of holiday decor which added to the cozy atmosphere. When we got there around 8:30pm no one was around and we were unsure what to do. Then we saw a sign telling us to ring a doorbell connected to their quarters (we didn't realize we could've checked ourselves in at the front desk) and a lovely woman promptly arrived and showed us around. We stayed in a room with a (very clean) shared bath. The breakfasts were delicious and hearty. The coffee was good. One thing: the bacon wasn't real bacon, it was paper-bacon. I mean, I could almost see through it because it was so thin. Weird. There are fresh cookies brought out everyday at 4pm! Overall, it was a very nice BnB and I would definitely stay there again. read more

Stayed at this lovely B&B for four nights between Christmas and New Year's eve. We were wonderfully, pleasantly surprised by the inn! The staff is extremely accommodating, and will go out of their way to ensure you have a great experience. We stayed in one of the premium rooms, which includes a fireplace and whirlpool (and also has wi-fi, which is why we didn't rent out a cabin). I can't express how awesome it was to come home from a day of skiing, light a fire, and relax in the whirlpool with a glass of wine. If you wander to the common rooms in the evening, you'll find plates of cookies (and maybe leftover scones from breakfast)! Speaking of breakfast -- definitely one of the highlights of the stay. Great coffee, lots of fresh fruit and juice, scones and muffins, and then your "main course" (which ranged from cheese tarts to pancakes to belgian waffles. often with a side of homemade sausage or bacon, and everything delicious). This was our umpteenth time at Trail's End, and as years go on, the place gets better and better. It's self check-in, but information about restaurants and hikes are everywhere, many generated by guests, and the owners are only a doorbell away. We stayed in the Terry Room which had a shared bath, but there were robes in the closet, a really nice touch, and the room also had a guide to the inn and the area. We're hikers who need our coffee, and it's out at 6:30 am sharp, in time for us to enjoy it on the massive, lovely front porch. I want to note that after a day of hiking, we found a video of "Fawlty Towers" episodes in the common room, and Dave actually came out to set up the VCR. PLEASE get off Air BnB where you're essentially squatting in someone else's home. Keep places like Trail's End alive. read more

Lisa, Rick, and Todd, immensely enjoyed our stay here from good honest home cooked from scratch sausage, omelettes, granola ,to fresh juice and fruits for breakfast. This is a great bed and breakfast. It is at the end of a long driveway and the area is pretty and very quiet. There are picnic tables and patios for you to enjoy the outdoors, but we went when it was cold so didn't get to take advantage of them. The breakfast served was all homemade and good. I liked that check-in was self-service so you didn't have to bother anyone and the innkeepers are around if you need them, but out of sight if you prefer to have your privacy. We stayed in the Gothic Room and it had a Keurig machine with coffees, teas and hot chocolate available along with a fireplace and hot tub. The room was very spacious and had a bed, little table with 2 chairs and a futon. The windows opened up and had screens on them so you could enjoy the fresh air. Our shower made a very shrill noise while using it, but it was a minor inconvenience. The inn is about 30 minutes away from Lake Placid and is located near many hiking trails. We went to one that was within walking distance (less than a few minutes to drive there). The room was a little pricey, but because of how much we enjoyed ourselves we didn't mind. You most likely won't have any cell service, but they offer free wi-fi. Overall this was a great place and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay somewhere they can just 'get away from it all' without being bothered by anyone or anything. read more
