My husband had the honors of picking our accommodations for our first solo trip without our son since he was born & he did a great job picking the Roostercomb suite at the Roostercomb Inn! Keane Valley is about 30 mins south of Lake Placid and only an hour from Plattsburgh. It's an incredibly beautiful area with plenty of hiking, waterfalls, peaks, rivers, and crystal clear lakes. The Roostercomb Inn is the perfect location because most of the trailheads we went to we're 5-15 minutes away by car. It's right off the main road in town, next to Black Mountain Coffee, and down the street for a little market named Valley Grocery. The Inn is mostly hostel style with 6 bedrooms varying from queen size bed, to twins, to even bunk beds with communal bathrooms. There's 2 bathrooms with showers/tub, and 2 bathrooms with just toilets. The suite we rented had it's own private bath, which to us was worth the extra money. The inn has a fully stocked kitchen so you can cook all 3 meals a day if you want, though I would recommend eating at least one meal at Forty Six restaurant down the street! There's two dining tables inside, and an outside table on the back patio which also has a grill, lounge chair, place to hang wet clothes, and a gorgeous view of the mountains. There's a fire pit out back, and the garden around the inn has beautiful flowers. The bottom floor of the front of the inn has a real fire place, some super comfy chairs for lounging, and another small kitchen with dining table in case there's the need. The rest of the downstairs are living quarters for the tenants. This building is from the 1800s, and although the hallways are a little crooked, there's so much character to this place! Most of the furniture is hand made wood and there's a lot of unique touches throughout. I will say that the bed definitely wasn't queen size and that the mattress needs to be replaced. Most guests probably sleep quickly and leave early, but we were really wanting to enjoy our time without our son and sleeping in was one of the goals! Noise levels weren't really a problem from inside, but there is a church across the street that chimes every hour and you can hear road noise. I also need to add that the windows need some curtains, because they don't block the sun and at night they are very lit up from the street lights. These are just a few touches that would've changed our stay from a 4 to a 5 star. I would say that being a suite they might want to add some more upgrades for couples who might be celebrating their wedding or anniversary. However, we would definitely stay here again! The little details in the room like the blow dryer, soaps, kitchenette that had both a coffee machine and hot water kettle were so thoughtful! They provided coffee beans and grinder for fresh coffee. They also had a tin with different teas. They provided all the cups, dishes, and silverware you would need so you could stay in your room. There's a small refrigerator and microwave as well. The closet had a cot bed that could be used for children, as well as additional pillows and blankets. There was a dresser for storing clothes, and a small electric fireplace. Magdalena is one of the owners and she was quite charming. She gave us recommendations of hikes in the area, and was very accommodating when asked for help. She gave me some of her chamomile tea when I didn't see any in our room or the shared kitchen, and she allowed us to come back and shower on our last day after we had checked out. We were hiking and swimming, and taking a flight later that night, so it was really nice for her to let us come back, especially since it ended up pouring rain in the afternoon! This place is quaint and lovely and has all the things you need for a wonderful vacation in the North Country of New York! The location is the perfect mix of small town amenities & close proximity to the nature trails! Check out my pictures as I've included some of the trails that were just a short drive from the Inn. We really enjoyed our stay here. Loved the rustic handmade furniture. I appreciated that there were 3 bathrooms, 2 with showers, so sharing bathrooms with the other guests wasn't an issue - there was always a free bathroom. Sitting outside by the fire at night, looking up at the stars, was wonderful. I also enjoyed sitting on the deck with an Adirondack chair, admiring my surroundings. read more

Spotless, scenic, inexpensive, historic inn near Lake Placid NY. I don't mind the shared bathrooms (one room has a private bathroom) or bringing my own food (there are plenty of restaurants nearby, too). There is a great communal full kitchen; you can store items in the fridge, use the (busy) coffee maker, and cook your meals there. The owner creates rustic furniture, so his gorgeous handiwork is all throughout the inn. Other pluses: plentiful hiking trails nearby, outdoor fire pit at night, air conditioner/space heater in every room, lovely 2nd floor deck outside the kitchen, perfect mountain views. I couldn't get the wifi to work; the housekeeper (who keeps the place immaculate) told me it's better downstairs. Please note that I didn't ask the proprietor for help, so maybe I missed something. But I stay in a lot of chain hotels with weak wifi, so I'm used to using my phone wifi when I travel. This is not a complaint, just an observation. My husband and I LOVE this place and will definitely return! read more

I just got back from the most lovely week spent with my family in the most beautiful part of the Adirondacks and I have the RoosterComb Inn to thank. This place is just lovely! Warmly outfitted with all things ADK, the Inn charmingly exceeded my expectations on all levels. The owners Magda and her husband, are a wealth of local information excited and willing to make your stay as comfortable as humanly possible. Having my 4 year old daughter in tow, we were a little worried she might be in the way of some of the other guests, but the response I got was quite the opposite! Perfectly situated in the gateway to the high peaks, most people are setting off early in the morning to accomplish their hiking goals, so the Inn stays very quiet most of the day. Others are just taking in the views of the gorgeous landscapes while taking full advantage of the delicious eateries and magnificent swimming holes close by. Definitely family oriented, dog-friendly, or solo traveler welcome, The RoosterComb is open to all. It's an understatement but, I can't wait to come back! read more

This review is based on our interactions with the RoosterComb Inn, not a stay at the location. We were driving nearby and ran into a terribly icy patch of road (think police and ambulance camped out on the hill given the number of cars getting stuck). We weren't sure we could make it to our destination and called the Inn to see if they had availability. At 2:47 in the morning, they immediately answered their phone, offered us a choice of two rooms, and then just told us that we'd be welcome to stay in either that evening if we couldn't make it further, and if we did, to just find them in the morning for payment. I can't speak to the lodgings, but this was remarkable hospitality, and we hope to be back as guests in the future! read more

Gorgeous inn furnished with beautifully crafted wooden furniture. Looks like something out of a magazine! My boyfriend and I are doing a road trip along the northern east coast, and our campsite got totally rained out. At the last minute we started looking for local inns or B&Bs and got insanely lucky that there was an available room at the Rooster Comb Inn. We love the outdoors, and the views and access to nearby hiking trails were pretty much unbeatable. The furniture in each room looked handmade with exposed natural wood, and neither of us could believe our luck that it was so reasonably priced. The owners were really nice, and even provided locally roasted coffee in the morning. We will be back for sure if we are in the area again, and highly recommend for anyone looking for a mountain getaway! read more

Steve & the RoosterComb saved our butts during a recent backpacking trip in Adirondack Park. We called after 9pm, and he welcomed us into his Inn. His customer service continued to be top-shelf throughout our 4-day stay. Rustic furniture is everywhere (Steve sells it from his other business, Bald Mountain Rustics), and the space is very comfortable. Shared bathrooms, so you plan your showers, but especially for outdoor-lovers who need a base camp at a reasonable rate - this is your place. Location is also spectacular - views of the RoosterComb itself, across the street from the Noon Mark Diner and Ausable Inn, and short drive/walk to the trailhead for the RoosterComb, Wolfjaw, and other peaks. read more

My husband and I stayed here for three nights last month. We usually camp when we come to the Adirondacks but we decided to switch it up and stayed here for the first time. I have to say it far exceeded what I was expecting. The place was beautifully decorated and the furniture was gorgeous. A fully equipped kitchen made it easy for us to cook our meals. We brought our dog with us and we were all happy with our stay. The only downside was that the bed in the Wolfjaw room wasn't very soft and my husband struggled to sleep. Everything else was amazing. Even the sitting room downstairs, the bathrooms, and even the fact that they have a washer and dryer available for you to use as well. Comes in handy after a dirty day in the mountains! This will be my 4th time staying at the Rooster Comb Inn. Yes, it is rustic, but also very clean, comfortable, & hospitable. There is a full kitchen with all dishes utensils & cookware should you wish to cook your own meals. The owner makes a wonderful fire each night if you like sitting around a fire under the stars. I'm always happy when I come to the High Peaks, during all four seasons. Steve, at Roostercomb, puts our visit over the top. His Inn is comfortable, clean and inexpensive. You can make new "climbing" friends in the shared kitchen, or you can run in and out to your destination. The shared kitchen also allows you to cook and eat your own food, which is a big plus for people with diet requirements, not enough time/patience for restaurants, or just on a budget.its also a lot of fun to walk downstairs to the Store and check out Steve's amazing custom Adirondack furniture. We just came back from a wonderful get-away weekend at the Rooster Comb Inn. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The views from the inn are incredibly beautiful. We could easily access the High Peaks trails by just walking down the road - no car needed, and no parking hassles. The trails are absolutely stunning - you feel like you're in paradise! Because of the inn's situation you can easily walk to the wonderful Noonmark Diner (homemade bread and jam!) as well as any shopping and equipment needs ( the wonderful "Mountaineer" is also in town). The people we met at the inn were lovely. The kitchen was a great bonus for us - very well stocked and easy to use. And thank-you Anne Marie for telling us about the amazing Sunday farmers-market, where we not only stocked up for the trip home but I had the best home-made tamales that I ever tasted! read more

We stayed here Jan 2015 for the 19th annual Adirondacks Mountainfest. Not only was it minutes from everything related to the festival, everyone else knew it in case you needed to be brought back to your hotel in the event of injury, too much drinking or if aliens kidnapped you, probed your bodyholes, then left you abandoned, cold and naked by the side of some random dirt road. You gotta think of these things in the 'Dacks, where you're about as lucky to get cell phone reception as you are to find someone who isn't outdoorsy. Besides that, everything was clean (and I always check over and under bed mattresses - 5 stars there, too) and owner Steve is probably not a real person as he's never seen but always felt, which meant that you could count on privacy, no matter what you were doing and forgot to lock your door. ;) read more

A hidden gem of a spot. New owners are wonderful and staff are super responsive to last minute bookings. Always clean. The communal kitchen is a lifesaver for prepping next-day meals or cooking a proper early breakfast. I've stayed here a handful of times before heading off for backcountry ski trips in the Adirondacks and always appreciate having it so close to major trailheads. Also, dog friendly which is a bonus. There is an excellent full kitchen and bathroom with everything you need as well as wifi. It is great for long stays as well as short stays. Steve, the owner, is a really nice guy. So glad I found the RoosterComb Inn. At first I wasn't thrilled with sharing a bathroom (only one of the six rooms has a private bath), but there are two bathrooms and I never had a problem with availability. Water was hot, all rooms (kitchen and bathrooms too) are spotless, everyone is friendly and I felt a real sense of community from the owners and the guests. The price is right and and quality high - it's in the center of Keene Valley and close to many hiking trails. It is pet friendly and the first night there were dogs barking late at night and early in the morning in the hall right outside my door. As a precaution I turned on the AC for the other nights and didnt hear anything. I cant wait to go there again! read more
