We really enjoyed our stay here. Loved the rustic handmade furniture. I appreciated that there were 3 bathrooms, 2 with showers, so sharing bathrooms with the other guests wasn't an issue - there was always a free bathroom. Sitting outside by the fire at night, looking up at the stars, was wonderful. I also enjoyed sitting on the deck with an Adirondack chair, admiring my surroundings.

Spotless, scenic, inexpensive, historic inn near Lake Placid NY. I don't mind the shared bathrooms (one room has a private bathroom) or bringing my own food (there are plenty of restaurants nearby, too). There is a great communal full kitchen; you can store items in the fridge, use the (busy) coffee maker, and cook your meals there. The owner creates rustic furniture, so his gorgeous handiwork is all throughout the inn. Other pluses: plentiful hiking trails nearby, outdoor fire pit at night, air conditioner/space heater in every room, lovely 2nd floor deck outside the kitchen, perfect mountain views. I couldn't get the wifi to work; the housekeeper (who keeps the place immaculate) told me it's better downstairs. Please note that I didn't ask the proprietor for help, so maybe I missed something. But I stay in a lot of chain hotels with weak wifi, so I'm used to using my phone wifi when I travel. This is not a complaint, just an observation. My husband and I LOVE this place and will definitely return!

My husband and I stayed here for three nights last month. We usually camp when we come to the Adirondacks but we decided to switch it up and stayed here for the first time. I have to say it far exceeded what I was expecting. The place was beautifully decorated and the furniture was gorgeous. A fully equipped kitchen made it easy for us to cook our meals. We brought our dog with us and we were all happy with our stay. The only downside was that the bed in the Wolfjaw room wasn't very soft and my husband struggled to sleep. Everything else was amazing. Even the sitting room downstairs, the bathrooms, and even the fact that they have a washer and dryer available for you to use as well. Comes in handy after a dirty day in the mountains! We'll be back for sure

This will be my 4th time staying at the Rooster Comb Inn. Yes, it is rustic, but also very clean, comfortable, & hospitable. There is a full kitchen with all dishes utensils & cookware should you wish to cook your own meals. The owner makes a wonderful fire each night if you like sitting around a fire under the stars. I come to this area annually & will most definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!

They took us in on a very snowy Thursday night... blizzard conditions. We had the Jay room a king size bed and queen futon. It was my husband and our two daughters. Nothing was open for dinner as the town had closed because of the weather - the innkeeper made us cheddar scallion scones fresh out of the oven they were delicious. The inn is classic Adirondack wide plank floors fieldstone fire place.. big porch with Adirondack chairs. The room was large and had its own bathroom. Nothing fancy but absolutely perfect. Would definitely come back and recommend !!

Very disappointed. I'm keeping this brief but wanted to warn others because some of the issues we…read morehad staying here. The room: We asked for a room with a view and rustic surroundings when we booked. The room was nothing as expected. We had a view of the parking lot. We also learned as soon as we arrived the room had no lock on it. The owner felt that it was not necessary and assured us we should not be concerned. In this day and age, a lock IS necessary! The bathroom: We had a jacuzzi hoping to enjoy a hot bath after a long day of hiking. Well, when we tried the jacuzzi, the hot water knob kept falling off. Went to the owner and he basically just pushed it back on and said it was not a big issue. The timer on the jacuzzi kept shutting off within a few minutes so we had to keep pushing the jet button for it to work continuously. The bathroom had other problems. The center light had a bulb out. There was no shower curtain (I reported this as well). There was a shelf in the bathroom that was missing completely. Very rustic indeed! The bedroom: The "queen" bed was 2 single beds pushed together so me and my husband could not sleep near each other otherwise we would sink in the middle. After hiking all day, we passed out each night anyway, but this was a pretty pathetic sleeping situation. Breakfast: No breakfast was served at this B&B when we stayed since the cook didn't work on the days we stayed. Okay, I could handle that but not even coffee was available in the morning unless you used the Kuerig in the kitchen that was for the guests. We could have waited until one of the owners got up to make a real pot, but at this point, I opted to go get food at the diner. The last straw: We came back to our room one day after a long day of hiking and the door to our room was wide open. We believe the cleaning lady must have had to leave suddenly (I'm guessing) since there was some cleaning supplies left in the room. This was the final straw, and since we were leaving the next day, I never said anything to the owners about this. By this point, I was pretty much done with this place as you can imagine. Honestly, so much was wrong with this place, I would never go back. Stay here at your own risk.

After…read morereading mostly wonderful reviews I was really curious and anxious to check out Mountain Brook Lodge myself. Plus, we were attending the Whiteface Oktoberfest and it was a perfect location in the little town of Wilmington just a short drive from our point of our interest. Before hitting the road, we called the owner to make sure he was expecting us because we knew we'd be arriving late. It wasn't a problem, he even told us to drive carefully and not to hurry. He was very comforting saying our room will be ready and waiting for our arrival. He gave us the room's number, so we could focus only on getting to our destination and not worry about anything else. After arriving I was deeply touched. Our room was not only ready for us, but with warm lights, a quiet TV on, and a slowly spinning ceiling fan. We felt extremely invited. The atmosphere was homey and cozy. After many hours on the road it was exactly what we needed and even more. Our accommodations were clean and pretty. Even the shower had a new curtain for us. Breakfast was basic, but I don't have bagels often and it was like a treat, toasted with butter and cream cheese, yum! There was more stuff to eat but I remember the delicious bagels the most and hard boil eggs of which I'm a big fan. I met the owner and shared my appreciation for his hospitality. He has a dog. The dog looked like a statue at first, but he was just chilling and it was easy to take picture of him. This unusual looking fellow was seated perfectly still for my photo and got little bit excited around my breakfast, but so was I, so it was totally understandable. After that I knew he was alright. The breakfast area was a great spot for having a morning meal or coffee during the day or just relaxing reading paper etc. Our room wasn't with 'a view' like I expected, but honestly I didn't know what to expect. The biggest window was in the front, a typical motel style setting. During the day, being located closer to the road could be little bit annoying because of the traffic noise. The nights were super quiet. It was good place to stay.
